[DEV] Voodoo sound pre-alpha 1 release based on I9103ZCLA1 source code - Samsung Galaxy R i9103

Please remember this, everyone, this is just an early release build based on the patch made for Galaxy tab 10.1 and I have ported it to Galaxy R directly without patching any codec code yet.
However, from what I can tell, the sound really does better than before and everything should be stable (I have already been running the patch for 5 hrs continuously , no SOD / kernel panic @ all, however further patch may be made later as I sometimes hear jit delay on the device).
So now I hang in the new kernel for you guys to test with.
How to install it :
Just down the file attached (boot.tar.zip) and then extract it.
Open odin v1.85 and then force the phone into download mode.
Choose the extracted file boot.tar.md5 as the bootloader file.
Click on start
Please REMEMBER this kernel does NOT have CWM, Overclock and other stuffs at the moment. It ONLY has official stock kernel + voodoo sound.
It is only used as a preview for the voodoo sound. You take your own risk for flashing it. However you can always report any bug in this thread as you want.
How to uninstall it :
Just select a kernel and then place it into your bootloader again. However your voodoo sound may be lost.
For kernel developer, the source code is located here :
https://github.com/UnknownzD/I9103_CHN_KERNEL (branch master)
So if you want to get the code works on your own kernel, you can always port to your own kernel as you want. But remember to thank supercurio for his big contribute. In addition, this is an old driver only as supercurio has said he will release a new pre2 driver later so please keep an eye for the announcement by supercurio in the future. (I am just too anxious to see what voodoo sound does and ported it on my own in 2 days, however that doesn't really mean something as 99% of the code are written by supercurio)
Credits goes to supercurio, however don't blame on supercurio if you found any bad thing occurs. This is because he is not the one who in charge on the source code or who suggested that directly porting the code from Galaxy tab 10.1 may work, but just I do.
btw, I will try to enable 2 way recording in the next build.

thanks for this bro but we'd love it if you used the ardatdat kernel 1.6, It's got everything and a CWM flashable zip would be better...

I know, thats why I am working on merging CWM into my own kernel now. In addition, I have sent a pm (as well as a request) to ardatdat so that he will know about it in the following days and may integrate the patch as well.

Based on what I test with my Westone 1 in-ear monitor, the patch should work flawlessly (epic audio quality now), however it still requires some tests for the duration of the FM radio part and the phone part. I didn't have time to test out all the things for a long time yet.
From what I have tried, audio quality is great after patch. FM radio part is working, the phone part is also working as well. However please help me as further test the kernel by either making Skype call for a long time or using FM radio part for a night.
****KKKINNNNNG AWESOME SOUND QUALITY NOW <3

amazing
just flashed this kernel, and what i hear with monster beats by dr dre was unbelievable i have never heard this superb quality output from my sgr. tested with stock headsets also gives awesome sound.
but by flashing this kernel DOWNLOAD COUNTER INCREASES WITH A YELLOW TRIANGLE ON BOOT . and one more thing USB TETHERING is not working, while cable is connected, device says no usb connected and cannot enable tethering using usb cable
req, if this patch will be merged with ardatdat's kernel than it will become a perfect kernel kindly look after this if anything is possible.
a big thanks, i will tell if i found other bugs.
EDIT: i have tested this on xwla4, can it creates prob as u said this one is based on zcla1's stock kernel?

This is the reason that I have purchased the phone. This is because I can see the full potential of it after doing OC + voodoo sound patch. btw I am using XWLA4 (Australian 3) firmware as well, however I don't have the issue that you have mentioned. btw if you want to get rid of that count, use the repair script in this forum please. However for the yellow triangle, I have a USB JIG to get rid of it so I can continue to use this kernel for my daily usage

U tried usb tethering, is it working perfectly?

hi, i have found this trick while experimenting with my SGR, its about to have both CWM and voodoo patch on SGR.
steps i did.
1. flash this using Odin3
http://www.multiupload.nl/6J4BBJ5I3P
2. after this, flash this patched kernel.
i have tried this on my SGR and now i have both working CWM and voodoo sound effects, try this and tell what happens with u

Good news - I have successfully merged Voodoo sound to v1.6 kernel
Will release later the v1.7 kernel with Voodoo sound. Stay tuned!
** The sound quality is really great !!!!! Wowo! I cannot imagine how great is the base and dynamic sound range that Galaxy R could provide before this patch!

Well that is because Galaxy R is using WM8994 DAC chip is a high-end product manufactured by wolfson for top-class DVD player.
btw if you want to build a kernel, I would recommend you to build it as 1.7b1 first as I may have some more patches put on the kernel src later.
btw if you can upload your latest kernel src to git, I guess I can work on more patches as I have found that it is possible to OC several things that didn't enable in your old kernel github src. So if you can give me the read access for your kernel src (or just give the read access for everyone to encourage more people working on I9103), I can test on making more patches out.

actually I have a private CWM recovery image built by a dev from CM team, however he told me not to release it unless I have tested all the functions of it. Tonight I may be making a rom on my own (yes I have my custom init.d script + build.prop which was used in I9003 before).
btw the CWM version that I have atm is the latest one ... 5.0.X.X

[ATT dev] Kernels Causing Wired HEADSET ISSUES!

I noticed some Kernels have different issues with wired headset.
Headset cuts my voice during voice calls
Auto dials and auto pulls call log
Headset button doesn't work
anyone notice strange behavior with your headset plugged in? Lets make a list of issues to make it simpler for devs to find a solution.
Any solutions? (one is to use stock kernel which is linked in this thread)
Post your issues with wired headset and please note which kernel is acting up. maybe we can combine code from different kernels to make one that works. (I noticed that some kernels have one issue but not the other)
Thanks for all your support and great work everyone is doing on the Epic!
Yes, I noticed the behavior between different kernels (using stock ROM). I know for a fact that with Xtreme Kernel, it disconnects my calls whenever I plug in my headset. The devs say to use only with ACS ROM, but given that the kernel is the bridge between the hardware and software, I doubt the ACS ROM would fix the issue.
I forgot what happened with the other kernels. I settled with Pheonix for now at the conservative governor (interactive sometimes leaves the CPU running at 100MHz and wont ramp up).
Seems we wont be getting any fixes for a while. All the kernel devs are having too much fun playing with Froyo.
Glad I am not the only one! Lets see if we can work this out! Using your phone without headset will give you BRAIN CANCER! Plus its more convenient with a headset when I have to deal with clients.
had problems using epic experience w/ mixup kernel and the latest Xtreme
I can confirm that wired headset handling is kind of fubar in our community kernels. Samsung had made some bugfixes between DI07 -> DI18 versions, but those changes don't appear to have been added to the DI18 source code.
Have any of you tried using the stock DI18 kernel to test this? If it works properly, then we have to cross our fingers and hope the issues don't persist in the kernel shipped with Froyo - as it stands there's no way to know what changed to fix this stuff easily in our community kernels.
The only time I ever gotten headset to work with phone mic was using stock rom and stock kernel after an odin.

It's only the custom kernel(s) that cause this issue...flash whatever rom you want, flash the stock kernel and you should be good to go...
also, FYI, already a thread on this issue here:

any link to stock Kernel? would be good if we could find a solution for the custom kernels, Is there any other way to install stock kernel besides restoring stock rom through ODIN?

I doubt it. I posted my bug on the Xtreme Kernel thread and Devin never responded. The only response I got was to use a specific ROM .
Yes, well at least this one is. I'm examining the audio right now to try and hunt down a fix for this and the bluetooth routing bug.
The leaked 2.2 still has the bluetooth bug afaik. I'm hoping samsung releases this fix with their source next time.
Using extreme kernel and when i plug in AUX cable for audio to my car it isnt recognized as a headset.
You mean it doesn't pop the icon in the notification bar, or that it doesn't play audio?
Nothing I plug in pops the headset icon when using a custom kernel - not even the wired headset. Pretty sure it's another symptom of the bug.
[edit] Nor in the froyo stock kernel. /shakes fist at samsung!

Thank you so much, this is the best rom for this phone (the only working cyanogen). I am happy to report that after a few weeks use it has across the board improved my phones responsiveness, battery life, and usability. However... I have one problem. I live in Alaska and have GCI as a carrier... when I alter my cdma apn info, everything works up to the point I want to change my MCC and MNC... it's defaulting to 310 and 012 respectively. When I leave those values alone it saves the apn... when I alter them, the apn entry disappears! How can I fix this? I I need it to be 311 and 370 but can't get it to save my apn.
If this never works, I don't care, I wil continue using this rom without mobile internet or mms downloads... it's just that good.

APN backup and restore app worked for me on US Cellular (backup apn from stock install, then restore to CM7), though I had to switch to GoSMS as a messaging app for MMS to send properly (stock app would receive but not send MMS - SMS worked normally in both). I had no success manually entering the apn info - didn't seem to have any effect when I tried.
@JianC
I found an issue with the 20130121 version from Jan 21 you posted on 2fastroms: If the phone is left on the charger it will charge all the way up, then discharge all the way back to zero while still plugged in. It still displays that it is at 100%, but then abruptly drops to whatever the actual charge level is after a few minutes of use. I've tried wiping battery stats to no effect and it works properly in stock rom. This is the only bug I can't seem to work around... Any fix or suggestions for things to try would be most appreciated! Thanks again for your work on this ROM!
Fixed GPS (and other issues), please see OP!
EDIT: I'll look into the apns issue... I don't use my Merge on CDMA so it's a stab in the dark.
The final version of CM7 has been uploaded (charging bug *should* be fixed).. I will not be supporting CM7 anymore but will be working on Evervolv/CM10.1.

If any help with the kernel is needed I will try my best to free up some time and pitch in some help. I have made several kernels for several other devices and the most popular being for the Acer Iconia tablets here on XDA see my signature. Great to see a CM rom for the merge on here though!! GB works fine for me, not that much cool factor from cm 10 or cm 10.1 as I have compiled quiet a few nightlies for the A100.. Other than the Project Butter and the overall UI I could care less about JB/ICS.

@linuxsociety That would be awesome if you could. Elginsk8r and I have already ported the board files but I can't figure out what's keeping it from booting..
@ everyone: CM9 for the htc merge is here!: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44487058#post44487058

Does it just boot loop or does it go black? does the CM logo appear? Guess there is no logcat output via adb either or you'd probably have nailed it by now. Maybe we will have to get jtag debugging output so we can see exactly what is causing the kernel panic and work from there.
I have just now had time to get on xda and check up on the new status. I will try to clone the git repository and check the kernel .config for the cm10 build. Just a thought but on most devices that have a working kernel with cm9 the exact same kernel + modules work fine with CM10. Have you all tried the kernel from CM9 that was just recently posted on any CM10 builds for the device? Not much has changed between ICS and JB that are dependent on in kernel features or that require bleeding edge mainline kernel and/or proprietary kernel patches. However there is a good possibility that the issue is more to do with the bootloader that is required to chainload the android OS for JB causing CM10 not to boot properly. So updating the bootloader may be necessary for JB/CM10 to boot properly. Nevertheless we need some debugging output in order to pinpoint what exactly is the problem going on. I am going to flash cm9 to my merge now and see how everything goes. I may experiment with the cm9 kernel and a cm10 build if I can find one for the merge. My hardware I have right now would take quiet some time to build JB as I haven't even used this old c2d laptop to build any android roms yet lol. Sorry for such a long posting but hopefully it is of some help in finding the resolution to the problems we have.
Thanks guys!

The .35 kernel works fine for CM10.0 but I'm having some issues booting cm10.1 with the .35 kernel because of some graphics memory allocation issues. The main issue is that there are a few issues that can't be fully fixed without the 3.0 kernel such as the camera/camcorder, ION support, etc (which is WIP here: http://review.evervolv.com/#/c/6609/ ). I have already tried probing for the UART TX/RX pins on the lexikon motherboard with a bus pirate but I have not found anything to date. I ordered a micro usb breakout board yesterday for USB UART debugging and am going to pick up some resistors from radioshack so we can hopefully get some progress on the 3.0 kernel because it won't boot far enough to adb or dmesg for our purposes. The problem isn't CM10 right now, but the kernel, which would require jtag or uart debugging, as you have mentioned. I hope that we can get the 3.0 kernel booting soon so we can have cm9/10 fully working.

This sounds about like the exact same issues that was experienced when I was helping hashcode work on the original kindle fire device and getting it to work with ICS. I 'think' with the HTC it shouldn't be near as hard to resolve the issue to get full hw acceleration, memory mappings camera/gps and all the extra bells and whistles if we make an attempt at backporting the necessary support into the .35 kernel instead of trying to upgrade * to 3.x which will be adding to the work and break more things than it fixes. Since HTC apparently isn't going to be releasing any updates for the device it looks like it is going to be left all up to us to make one of two decisions:
1) backporting kernel - only the few things remaining needed for our current working GB kernel to have full support for ICS/JB roms
OR
2) updating to 3.x.x and merging HTC fixes and 3rd party patches -through several mainline kernel patches and keeping the proprietary htc addins compatible.
My opinion/suggestion:
I'd think of the two options that backporting would be the most logical answer to the equation since we are only missing support for few things and you already have everything working except the camera, ION, BINDER(?), and other >=3.0.0 android patches. Plus the device is pretty well coming to a good place to say cease development work and either enjoy the device or upgrade to something newer. So if we could get JB support or even just ICS working fully I think 99.99% of all owners/users would be more than 99.99% happy!! I know I would be very happy myself!

[Q] YouTube app doesn't work anymore after CM9 update

I recently flashed the CM9 20130227 to update my old version of CM9 that was about a year old. But after I flashed it I couldn't play any videos. Either from YouTube app or the phone's player or any player. Videos just won't play. I did a re-install and tried to go back to my old ROM but the problem's still there.
Everything was working before I flashed the update. Any video playback gives me an error message "Sorry, this video cannot be played."
flash proton kernel
No dont flash the proton kernel. Flash hefe. Or the rom from aug 30th. Cm9 last one released in 2012. Proton kernel is what broke video

Flashing CM 9.1 and then flashing the Proton Kernel fixes the YouTube problem.
You Tube worked great for me with the hefe kernal.
Yeah... just about any non-CM9.1-release kernel works great. I was merely pointing out that turtlepa saying that the Proton kernel was the problem, was totally off base and wrong.

Theraze u even stated yourself to someones question how to fix youtube and video recording. Ask in qa or flash another kernel. 9.1 comes with proton so.. another kernel must mean hefe

I run Ultragen 1.01, and the proton kernel, both in my sig and youtube, recorded video in 720p plays back fine, netflix works fine, everything works great. Youtube was borked in ultragen 1.0 as well as some video, so make sure to get 1.01, reboot, let it sit, flash proton, video in full smoothness. If it doesn't, its your phone.

Uh... no. The flashable Proton/Poop kernels come from Erik. CM9.1 came from Brian.
The flashable Proton/Poop kernels work with Youtube/Video/stuff. The CM9.1 version does not.
These are differences. That means that they're not the same.
While it's sad that your personal experience doesn't match the rest of the world, that doesn't invalidate the rest of reality.

Is that maybe a user thing? cause i actually just flashed in cm9.1 then up to ultragen 1.01 like 2 days ago and i have no problem at all with youtube, loads up and plays videos just fine unless theres something wrong im not seeing
The problem noted in this thread is specific to the CM9.1.0 build from Feb 27, 2013. The version of the kernel included with that had some major issues, fixed by flashing... anything that's not that specific kernel version.
Ultragen 1.0 had some issues as well, but if you flashed 1.01 instead (or over it), those original Ultragen issues should be solved.
OR, Maybe Aries
Well, if they're grabbing one of the publicly available CM9 versions with Aries+SOD, extracting the boot.img file and flashing it over to their phone... Youtube not playing is the least of concerns.
And if they're compiling their own post-noiphone-SOD-fixed kernels, they probably have better things to do than complain here, like go onto the IRC channel and discuss with other developers how to actually fix it.

[Q] SlimKat ROM 7.2.1 and 7.4 do not recognize Xiaomi Piston 2 headphones

Hello SlimKat support,
I had an issue with Xiaomi Piston 2 headphones on the SlimKat ROM 7.2.1... OnePlus One recognize inserting it only one time of 10 inserting...
But with SlimKat ROM 7.4 headphones is not recognized at all I tried 20time insert jack, but OnePlus One did not recognize insertion any of try.
It was OK on the SlimKat ROM 7.0 (stable)...
It is an issue only with Xiaomi Piston 2 headphones... I just tried two other headphones I have at home and OnePlus One recognize them on 1st insertion :good:
Does somebody else have this issue with Piston 2 headphones? Thank you.
Works perfectly with 11s. Maybe they switched the key assignment.

reinstall or not reinstall... thats whats going on here...
Hi tssphysicsboi,
hm, that I was worried about...
I like SlimKat as light weigh ROM... so reinstall all apps and configure whole mobile again... uff
I would rather have fix for SlimKat then to give up on it :highfive:

Workaround included. The problem involves CM commits related to audio within the kernel. All ROMs/kernels update their commits on top of what CM already offers so therefore other ROMs/kernels will have this problem.
Short story:
Workaround: Slowly plug the jack half way in.... hear the music start outputting via headset (you have to have auto detect on insertion enabled) but and then a few seconds later I insert the jack fully in and then it works.

Can't really do much, use a older custom kernel if you want the phone to detect or do the workaround and be patient while CM works on it.
I use the Pistons myself, great headphones. Best $25 spent
When I use this reduction - http://shop.recall.cz/?cls=stoitem&stiid=7109 and headphones are functioning properly. Certainly there is an error in the rom? Or has oneplus involved as jack iphone?

Yeah a audio splitter works. Its a problem within the kernel related to CM commits. Its being looked into.

Definitely issue with SlimKat ROM, because it works in other ROMs.
And the reduction means the ROM doesn't cooperate with the "extra" connectors on the jack.

The problem is resolved now. Download a kernel with the newest commits, Franco r14 contains this new commit so its fixed.

what kernel? uff, where? How to install it?
I'm sorry, the One is my first Android mobile and I was so so happy I was able to replace CM11s with SlimKat... playing even with kernel... uff
Is there any step by step guide how to replace kernel on SlimKat?
edit: I think... I will rather wait for next build and install it as whole ROM update... then trying to hacking kernel...

Its in original android dev franco kernel... download the zip r14 -> put it on your phone -> reboot to recovery mode -> flash it in TWRP and then reboot.
its very easy to do.... be sure to download the AOSP kernel variant since ur on SlimKat.

OK, looks easy...
Where can I get that zip?
I tried search in the OnePlus One section of Kernels, but I got only "No results were found."
Thank you.

edit: OK, I found the franco.Kernel-nightly-r14.zip, but it seem to me it is only for CM11s (maybe for CM11 as well), but there is nothing said about SlimKat ROM... can I install then? Or I will brick my One? Thank you.
