(ROM) BiffHero-BETA2-"Oh hiiiiii"-Eris/2.1/Sense (8/12/2010)

Well its that time. I'm releasing a Eris/Hero ROM. Presenting BiffHero Beta2, there was a beta1, it was broke . This is based off of Kingklick92's Eris2g1. I removed some things that didn't need to be there (bluetooth and stock.apk) I also replaced the google apps with the CM5 build and replaced the kernel with the latest CM kernel (including low mem killer patches, 576mhz overclock etc). Also added a better boot animation. Gotta say, this thing is fast. I'm quite impressed. Please see the credits and post boot setup below. Please not this is very much a work in progress. IF ANYONE CAN GET GOOGLE TO SYNC, YOU WOULD BE MY "HERO"

Not bad, Biff! This is by far the most usable 2.1 Hero ROM I have used on the MyTouch. The speed certainly surpasses that of most ported Hero roms. I'm not one to do video reviews or anything, but maybe once we get GAPPS working I can do a write up review with screenies.
Wish I could help you with syncing the GAPPS, but don't have the knowledge or time to spend on it (especially while sitting here at work! )
I'm looking forward to the development of this ROM. It would be awesome to have a *real, fast and stable* hero ROM.

Decided to try it, , flashed 4 times already, still can't get past the splash screen
i've wiped via fastboot (fastboot erase system-w)
repartioned: 160/640 on 8GB class6
wiped 5 in 1.70G recovery
flashed, still nothing.

I tried upgrading to ext4 and reflashed. Still a no-go for GAPPS. It gives the error that it "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server." Even though I'm attempting sync over wifi..

Could it be because he replaced the gapps with the cm5 build?

Could be. Reflashing CM5 GAPPS didn't help either.

best hero rom ive ever ran just cant log-in my gmail to syc contacts and all but it runs the best out of all hero roms ive tried! good job!

i played around with this its nice and fast but the no gapps is killing me so im going back to something else

also if you guys really want to try this rom with gapps flash KiNgxKxlick-Espresso2G1-v1.3 and then when it finishes booting go back to recovery and then wipe everything but sd card ext partition and then flash this rom and you will have working gapps
also to anyone getting mad with this rom its a beta meaning not everything is gonna work this is still in testing so give it some time but so far this is the fastest sense rom out there

i gave ur rom a try ... flash worked for me out-of-the-box ... seems like flash lite is already implementet in that eris rom. Great! gaaps forced closed for me and camera preview pic is gropped.

Biff, I am so mad that you dont have every single thing working in this rom, if its not fixed in the next 20 minutes i am not going to use it anymore and i know how sad you would be about that. Haha come on guys! Biff is doing this for fun, and obviously its not done yet. SO QUIT *****ING! He doesnt have to do this for anyone (including his perfectly working Froyo ROM) like he said, if you dont like it, go somewhere else. HE NEVER SAID GAPPS WERE WORKING!

I am able to release it right now just need to get the permissions and the links would be up instant. Camera works but camcorder doesn't work for me.

Multiple sensor vendors for the Camera exist. Just because it is an HTC phone does not mean you have an HTC camera(omnivision or Samsung) You need to know this stuff man:silly:

I can understand if people want to make there own roms. And i really appreciate it if they share the work with the community. But before you do this, you should learn something about how to do this stuff!

Sorry but I wont be going anywhere near anything you release and I use that term loosely. You appear to be jumping from one genuine developer's rom's to another trying to cobble up your own rom. Just reading your previous posts clearly shows your technical abilities are rather lacking.

Should maybe also add, non or unofficial CM10 rom as well to the title.

Stop me if i am wrong... But if you compiled CM10 from source then why do you have to wait for permission???? What CM10 rom are you using as a base then??? Jellytime is the only one i know of to boot and run with CM10, and we all know you will not get permission from Random

I have already requested a mod take a look at this. I find it weird that his computer cannot compile a kernel but it can compile a rom. Even on my custom built with a 6 core AMD Phenom with 16 GB of RAM it takes about an hour to an hour and a half to compile from source. That would require at least 2 days time on his machine with a melted core. We will see if this is legit. Let the mods take care of this

Let me take a peek at this. He thanked people for compliling the kernel and then thanked multiple other people... so he took a bunch of other peoples work and crunched them into one... something seems alittle fishy is all I say. And yes its pretty clean on my part that he doesn't seem to know what he's doing. (Don't get me wrong I'm no where near being a dev but it just seems like he's trying to make himself popular for making one) idk.That's my input so ill just see where this goes. Goodluck

it looks just like stock I built it to be at least as good as what you get from google if everything is working correctly that is when I will begin modifying but for now it looks like the stock ROM so I didn't think screenshots would be needed

Its solely up to you guys if you want to flash it as this is an expensive hobby for me I'm just sharing what I do with the community so is it worth it, for me yeah, for you I really don't care, I hope I'm not coming off as an ass but I have to draw a line somewhere. I not making any claims with this ROM I just sharing it if you use it fine if not fine, I don't get into the whole screenshots large claims huge changelog thing I just post and share I also maintain this ROM for the Sprint Galaxy Nexus which it has done just fine so if you want you can do a search here and see what and where I come from .......

I'm very happy when see any new rom in N7 development, because nexus need fresh look from developers, so i was thinking that You could push some new tweaks into ours devices. Almost all roms here are just "cleaned" or "minimalistic" or "performanced" in real these rom are almost stock with the same user experience. So do not get angry when I want to know if there will be something more here...

After flash with twrp, I see the information is Android 4.2 JOP40C. I dont know whether it is flashed or not?

I'm not getting angry with you in fact I agree however, regardless of how you feel about those roms someone still put that effort into them. Honestly for me the N7 is a new device and before I go making claims that my ROM can start your car and end world hunger I want to make sure that it at least meets stock standards. AOSP has done a lot of work to somewhat remove google entries in their code so it has taken me a few days to re-build AOSP code to work correctly with G-APPS and other Google code I do NOT claim to be an over the top developer I just do this as a pastime I have certain things that I do not like and thats why I have started making my own ROMs so that I always get what I want. Now I can tell you this and I know this as a fact THIS IS NOT A WINZIP KITCHEN ROM IT IS BUILT FROM SOURCE it took hella work to get it up to a win zip ROM and thats where we're at so far lol. When I learn all the changes to the 4.2 coding I will start to add small feature to my ROM.

yes it works with TWRP and the information in the About screen is correct

Installed thid yesterday and so far no problems, nice deep sleep of 96%. Nice work

With leanKernel, I just have 86% batterry overnight :crying:. I charged it fully the night before.

Can I add Venom Viper roms to this phone?

Ive had the CM9.1 r8 rom for a very long time but when my phone is around 40% battery life it reboots non stop that its gotten really annoying and frustrating for me because the fix is to charge the phone and if Im not home its a problem my phone is useless that I cannot use it anymore, as soon as I reboot and unlock the phone to send a txt or make a call itll reboot again. Anyway I want working roms with no bugs or glitches etc. Ive been googling some roms and stumbled on the Viper Venom rom but it said it was for another phone not the mytouch 4g slide. Is it possible to use other roms for other phones or is that a big no no? If so is there a working version for this phone?
If not can someone recommend a good working rom that does not drain the battery, lag, dodgy camera, wifi doesnt work etc?

Only a ROM that is specifically ported to THIS phone will work. You cannot just flash a ROM from another phone, that's a sure way to end up with a brick.
There are several ROMs here that a lot of people like. Personally, I use the Miktouch 0.7 ROM (with Liquid Smooth and Genius Button patches) because, like you, I want everything to work as it is supposed to work. It is a stock ROM that has been tuned and cleaned up to run smoother and faster. Though I like the look of some of the newer ROMs, especially the Jelly Bean ones, there's always a little quirk that is just enough to annoy me and make me go back to the Miktouch ROM. But, that's just my opinion, yours may be different.

Ok thanks for the info and sorry for posting on the wrong section. Damn unlucky this rom does not work, I actually like the theme of it it looks really neat and clean for this phone. I just went to their offical website and they have a topic on the forum where the source code for this rom is kept private and you have to know how to make a rom and request permisson from them to grant you the source code and to also be a team member for them to port the rom to this phone orrrrrrrrr you have to send them your phone so they can experiment on it to make the rom for it. Just my luck Im not good at making roms I wish there was a way to learn I wouldnt mind trying to be a developer but it looks really difficult and not easy

CM9 R8 is really old too. there have been several updates to that rom since then

You mean cm-9-1-(3-0-74)-r11? I installed that last time but the wifi would not work for me, every time I tried to enable it nothing would happen. If I went to settings and tried to enable it from there again nothing would happen so I reverted back to R8

Are you S-On? If so, you must flash the kernel in bootloader separately from the ROM. WiFi not working is a classic example of the wrong kernel for the ROM.

Yeh I tried that few months ago and yesterday I flashed it 4 times. I even flashed r10 the older version twice and that too didnt work. Got it working eventually wow I didnt know I just had to keep trying to flash it till I got it working, looks ok now Ill give this rom a test and hope the battery life is better than r8. So far everything seems to be working no bugs or crashes

1. Install the latest or 2.7 TWRP recovery. WIPE the following partitions in TWRP recovery ====> /system /data/ /cache/ dalvik cache/ /preload/ everything but internal and external sdcards... unless you want to wipe those as well then go right ahead.. also wiping everything is a good way to start over if coming from builds of another source.
2. Install ROM from /sdcard/ aka internal /sdcard/
3. After flashing completes, reboot
4. LET IT SIT A FEW MINUTES
5. Sign in to WI-Fi if available, then sign into your Google account
6. Choose Google launcher when prompted pick "Always" then "OK" Choosing Google launcher will not allow the stock customized Weather widget to function or even be chosen. your choice. I like both.
7. open play store and allow Google search and keep to update...
8. reboot.. . Remember to Reboot.

OOpss... Rushing, I just flashed your latest lightspeed xx skyrocket on my t989 and when I open the calendar the screen is on horizontal, when I turn the phone to horizontal it goes into vertical. Am I the only one experiencing this?
Actually it happened pretty much with all applications, so I flashed back to hackingwiz.

Sounds like you need the rotation fix. Try a herc kernel. On a side note I have tried d/l this multiple times today and it fails. Finally got it to go and got a status 7 error.

For less experienced users reading this.... The SkyRocket Roms werk on the T989 or Hercules SGS2.. all except the kernel which makes screen as well as gps orientation backwards. However I included the SkyRocket kernel so there should be no backwards orientation problems. Not all TWRP versions will likely be compatible. some versions of CWM are definately compatible as well just saying I use TWRP for the preload wipe feature .

r u sure its just the kernel to fix the rotation, i thought it also had todo with some drivers related to the screen afai can remember

I am not completely certain . I had a tester tell me that he just switched out the kernel and he didnt mention drivers.. So going by what he said I took SR stock kernel and replaced mine and plus the build.prop to say I727 .. I have never flashed a Skyrocket ROM and did the fix so thats why I am not able to answer with precision =]
But if anybody is having problems let me know please what they are. what recovery you are on and the like anything you might think could help with the big picture will be appreciated...
I have a lot of cool ROMs that I could post over here once I get it the port down which is a minor port if its even a port lol./ Might even make a kernel that OCs up to 2.? GHz more or less depending on this device I will prolly start at just 1890 and werk up if I go there. should be a piece of cake. will need interactive testers though../

Works great with kernel swap. I did not have to change any drivers. I would like to try some of your other roms.

i remember asking when you first posted these roms in t989 thread but okay lol...

I'm just usually too busy but he caught me at the right time. Also he was helpful with testing . It's just timing is all . But the roms I make are, imo, better now. I was spending all my time on the S4 and making kernels for the s2 was taking all my mental haha.
But I Got my One m8 and don't need to make mods for a while as I'm happy with it just debloating stock Rom is nice.
Thanks for your suggestion as well cause see it is part of the equation. Being asked two or three times is encouraging so anyone that suggested it played a part.

Well no ETA's =]
but, I have an improvement, its not much, I like to make the power button on the status bar invisible.
I could do that maybe add the same power button to the pull down notification panel.
kinda thought interest in this ROM died off before it took hold.
also I could dig into the kernel source at some point and whip up some big OC'd kernels as well. I did a lot to my tmo S2 kernel recorded it on git if you want to see.
