Coby Kyros 7012 - How to install CyanogenMod - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Since I couldn't find anything on this bloody tablet and unfortunately I have one here is what I did to get it working
Unfortunately the hardware buttons will pretty much all be off since they are not mapped correctly so this is the downfall.
!back up your stuff, I am not responsible for bricking or anything else
Install Clockwork Recovery by doing the following
1) Download here (this is for 7016 but works on 7012, buttons are a little off but you will get used to it, use volume down to scroll and volume up to select, back works.) get the file called "ClockworkMod Recovery 5, CyanogenMod 7, FWDN image"
http://androtab.info/cyanogenmod/telechips/
2) install by going into fwdn mode with this command in dos with no parenthesis (adb reboot-bootloader)
3)Then type (fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img) or where ever your recovery.img file is.
4) Go into recovery and install this zip file from sd card
KYROS7016GB-8K-cyanogen-signed.zip
which is located here -> http://mirrors.androtab.info/oldfiles/telechips/cm7/20111029/KYROS7016GB-8K/

Attempted install from ZIP file on internal SD storage via CWM recovery.
Install failed immediately.

This works!!

Thanks this worked. The bottom link no longer works but the top link will take you to the page with all the files.
-Must have an external SD card
-You only need the ClockworkMod Recovery 5 and the CyanogenMod7 files no need for the FWDN image.
-You will also need the CM7 gapps you can get those by searching for CM7 gapps on google first link
-I have managed to fix some of the hardware buttons. After install volume_down is menu, volume_up is home, and the back button works as it should.
-you can go into /system/usr/keylayout and change all of the lines that say HOME and MENU to VOLUME_UP and VOLUME_DOWN to all of the files in the folder you will get volume buttons working.
-I can not get the search home or menu buttons to work I tried keyevent viewer from the app store and pressing any of the buttons shows nothing.

Brick mid7012
Im stuck in coby logo with blue words showing fastboot mode plis i need to rebuild the system i dont know how plz help me!

W00t! Working on 7012
Nice! I just loaded CM7 for the 7016 on my 7012.
You have to open the signed cyanogen archive in 7zip (or whatever) and edit the the updater-script at this path:
\META-INF\com\google\android\
The entire first line, including the semicolon at the end of it but nothing more, has to be removed. The installer is just checking the tablet's ID to make sure it's only going on supported hardware (oops).
After that, the install goes nicely. Don't be worried if it takes a while to get off of the COBY screen.

I flashed this on a coby mid7012 and need to know how to align the screen? It calibrates but it's off to the right about 1/2 inch. Thanks

It is not listed Here so it don't look like it will work for your tablet sorry.
You need to find CWM recovery for your device and you can follow the install in the first post here.

Any fix for the misalignment?

Is There....?

A straight forward guide on how to flash CWM .... ANYWHERE?
I dont feel I'm a noob.... I've flashed all my phones.... Elf, HD, HD2, Desire.... but this Xoom is about to go out the window!
The instructions to me read "boot to recovery and flash from SD card" ... how do I boot to recovery when thats what I'm trying to install?
I've tried Lord AIO and that will unlock the bootloader, but CWM install flashes past in under a second so I dont think its working... If I try the root it just says it cant find SD card... and of course CWM ROM manger wants Root access.... One click root wont work with UK Xooms...
Anyone got a straight forward guide.... ?:fingers-crossed:
UK Xoom running 4.1.2 wifi...
For example.... TWRP thread ....
Installation instructions (option 1)
Download zip file from link below
Place zip on Micro SDcard
Reboot into existing recovery
HOW? I'm trying to install my first recovery??????
Cold booting ODM? whats that??? I get that if I hold vol + & - together....
Or power and Vol - I get "Starting Fastboot protocol support" - it stays there until I reset it....
Here is how I rooted my xoom and install the initial custom recovery and the install TWRP recovery.
If you already unlocked your bootloader you can skip that step.
follow the directions here but instead of doing step 1 follow this for adb install http://www.support-4-you.com/main/i...ged-adb-installation&catid=40:how-tos&Itemid= it is a 1 click adb install then follow from step 2 on.
When you are done there you can install TWRP 2.4 touch screen recovery (a much better recovery than what you used to root.)
Download TWRP2.4 zip and put on the root of your external sd card. ( if you don't have a sd card we will do it another way just let me know)
Boot into recovery by turning your xoom off.
1. press power
2. when the moto dual core logo comes on wait 3 seconds and press volume down
3. recovery should be displayed across the top press volume up.
You can skip steps 1- 3 now that you are rooted if you download Quick Boot open it, select recovery and the grant Super user permission
4. go to install zip from sd card (just like when you rooted) and find the TWRP 2.4 Zip and install
5. reboot your xoom
6. you now have TWRP 2.4 recovery installed.
really appreciate your help but that still doesnt work....
C:\SDK\tools>adb reboot bootloader
'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
C:\SDK\tools>
Or from the root....
C:\>cd sdk
C:\SDK>adb reboot bootloader
'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
C:\SDK>
found the adb - its not in the root of SDK as the guide says.... but still wont flash....
C:\SDK\platform-tools>adb reboot bootloader
C:\SDK\platform-tools>fastboot flash recovery recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img
'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
C:\SDK\platform-tools>
Spent hours on this now.... nothing
Its a UK GED Wifi Xoom... I bought it with ICS on and its done OTA to JB 4.1.2 - so I guess it has already had the bootloader unlocked... I've unlocked it again... so I dont know if that has caused problems...
I've tried following the guides but they seem very disjointed and not easy to follow, is it worth continuing? am I actually going to gain anything?
It would be nice to be able to overclock it as the Xoom is starting to show its age now.......
I'd be most grateful if anyone can help me.......
Google whether your phone can be bootloader unlocked. If it can then the best way (I think) to get cwm and root is to
unlock bootloader.
flash a kernel boot.img in fast boot which has cwm.
Flash a rom which has root

easy fix. The folder you have adb installed you need to put fastboot.exe and then run the fastboot command.
It sounds like you don't have all the files you need in the same folder.
did you run the one click adb install method I posted?
don't worry about he sdk part (like i posted use the one click adb install and then skip to step 2 of that thread).
If you follow the steps posted in that thread (skipping the sdk) you will be rooted. And then continue on with the rest of the steps I posted for inbstalling TWRP
Really appreciate your help dfib1.... but now I get....
C:\>cd sdk_tools
C:\SDK_tools>adb reboot bootloader
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
C:\SDK_tools>fastboot flash recovery recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img
error: cannot load 'recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img'
The disk image file is definitely on the SD card....
OK - I put the disk image in the same folder as the SDK_tools and it appeared to flash... I got..
C:\SDK_tools>fastboot flash recovery recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img
sending 'recovery' (3998 KB)... OKAY [ 0.650s]
writing 'recovery'... OKAY [ 1.283s]
finished. total time: 1.935s
But when I hit the vol - 3 seconds after the logo I get "Android Recovery" - I selected it with vol+ but I then get a an Android laying on his back with a red triangle...
that should have put the recovery on your xoom. Did you unlock your bootloader?
try this recovery twrp 2.4 download it and put it in the c:\sdk_tools folder and type
fastboot flash recovery TWRPv2.4.1.0.img
then try and reboot into recovery
Cheers dfib1 - managed to get the root done' but the Roms are shockingly bad compaired to stock....:crying:

Running EOS4 nightly at the mo... probably gonna have to change it... the keyboard has issues and there appears to be alot of lag.... are you using EOS 3?
I am running eos4 right now. I do have the keyboard issue bur I just downloaded a new one from the market until they fix it. As far as the lag I have not seen it but I am also using apex launcher pro. Black bean 7 is having issues with the keyboard and data issues but a new release is coming soon to fix these.

[GUIDE][ROOT] Archos 50 Platinum

Decided to create this guide because the steps in the threads below didn't work for me.
The Archos 50 Platinum rooting process is slightly different then the Karbonn Titanium S5.
Still, this was very helpful!
[Rooting]Karbonn Titanium S5 general discussions and Rooting help
KARBONN TITANIUM S5 {Rooting/CWM}[UPDATED STOCK ZIP]
STEP 1 - Need
# Enable USB Debugging under developer options
# Drivers (used the file in the internal SDCard "pcdrivers.zip")
# adb-fastboot
# CWM Recovery (IMPORTANT: Not yet the best CWM Recovery for Archos 50, image flickers. But works)
# Stock Recovery (Karbonn Titanium S5 stock recovery. Worked for me)
# Superuser / SuperSU (CWM SUPER USER.zip)
STEP 2 - Preparations
1. Extract "adb-fastboot" to a folder and open a Command Prompt window from there (Didnt need "Run as Administrator").
2. Copy CWM Recovery to ..\adb-fastboot folder and rename it "recovery.img"
3. Copy the "CWM SUPER USER.zip" to the root of the internal or external SDCard.
STEPS 3 - Driver Installation
1. Power off your device, and go into GREEN Recovery
# Press and hold VOLUME UP + POWER KEY -> when you see a GREEN screen release volume up key
SKIP THIS IF YOU ALREADY HAVE DRIVER INSTALLED
2. Install Archos 50 ADB Driver
# Win+R -> devmgmt.msc and update the unknown device "A50" and force the installation (This driver is not digitally signed) to "Fastboot interface (Google USB ID)", driver location should be "..\pcdrivers\drivers\adb_driver\ (win32 or win64)
STEP 4 - Flash CWM Recovery
1. From the folder "adb-fastboot" Command Prompt:
Code:
fastboot devices
This should display your device name in fastboot mode, if nothing is shown, then you have to check previous steps again.
2. Type this command to flash CWM recovery to your phone
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Done! CWM Recovery installed.
STEP 5 - SuperSU with CWM (Screen flickers, but easy to follow)
1. Boot into RED Recovery by:
# Press and hold VOLUME UP + POWER KEY
# When you see a GREEN screen DONT release VOLUME UP key
# After 10 seconds you see RED screen, now release VOLUME UP key
2. In CWM Recovery, select "install zip from sdcard" -> "CWM SUPER USER.zip" from SDCard. (Screen Flickers!)
# Reboot
# Done!
After the reboot your phone should be rooted. If not, follow the steps again.
STEP 6 - Revert to Stock Recovery / Unroot (Remember this is from Karbonn Titanium S5. Worked for me)
# Do STEP 4, but replace with the Stock Recovery
# Unroot instructions here. In CWM Recovery!
If theres a easy way, let us all know.
Thanks!
Nice, thanks.
My heart is not yet strong enough to try and maybe fry another phone though (bricked 3 phones while playing around in dangerous areas this year )
try it out guys it should work, its not going to spoil your phone as we just replacing recovery, even of u fail u will have a bootable phone.
In step 3, you can also just type 'adb reboot bootloader' instead of holding the buttons, to boot into fastboot mode
---------- Post added at 10:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:05 AM ----------
Here's a much easier way of doing it:
1. preparations + open a cmd window, cd to your adb-fastboot folder
2. 'adb reboot bootloader'
3. 'fastboot devices' (if no devices are present, try option 2 again)
4. 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img'
5. 'fastboot continue'
6. 'adb reboot recovery'
7. "install zip from sdcard" -> "CWM SUPER USER.zip"
8. 'adb reboot'
---------- Post added at 10:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:14 AM ----------
Also, this method is working perfectly for me - root, SuperSU and a beautiful, not-flickering CMW Recovery! Only mass storage mode is not working, not in stock recovery nor in CMW recovery.

can you please upload the system part of your cwm back up.
you can compress it using "KGB ARCHIVER" Free to download from CNET it converts 300mb to just 3mb
You can also find that on the website of Arches, in the form of an update.zip package. You can download that here:
http://www.archos.com/support/support_tech/updates_fwm.html?country=us&lang=en

How to Root Nextbook Ares 11A [NX16A11264]

Prerequisites:
A Micro USB Cable
A Computer
The keyboard detached from the tablet (So the screen doesn't turn off/go to sleep in the middle of the process)
Windows or Linux
ADB & Fastboot
Intel® USB Driver (If on Windows)
RECOMMENDED: Back up your data from the tablet (Unlocking the bootloader is required and will wipe your data)
SuperSU zip
Ares 8A TWRP Recovery (Was able to boot into the recovery, use the touchscreen, and root the Ares 11A)
Steps:
For both Linux & Windows:
1.) Go to Settings
2.) Tap the build number till it says, you are now a developer (this will unlock the Developer Options)
3.) Go to Developer Options
4.) Enable the OEM unlocking option (DO NOT turn this back off, as it's required to have an unlocked bootloader)
5.) Power off the device
6.) Hold down
Code:
VOLUME DOWN + Power
till it goes into the bootloader/fastboot screen
7.) Plug in your USB Cable
Windows Users (If you are using Linux skip to the Linux section):
8.) Open a command prompt
9.) Type this command:
Code:
fastboot devices
(If a device doesn't show up, make sure the Intel USB drivers are installed)
10.) Type:
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock
f(unlocks the bootloader)
11.) Extract the TWRP recovery
12.) Type:
Code:
cd <path to TWRP recovery .img>
13.) Type:
Code:
fastboot boot Ares8A_recovery_twrp.img
14.) On the device tap the Install button
15) Browse to the SuperSU zip and tap it
16.) Swipe to flash it
17.) Reboot your tablet
18.) You are now rooted!
Linux Users:
8.) Open a terminal
9.) Type this command as root or use sudo:
Code:
fastboot devices
10.) Type as root or use sudo:
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock
(unlocks the bootloader)
11.) Extract the TWRP recovery
12.) Type:
Code:
cd <path to TWRP recovery .img>
13.) Type as root or use sudo:
Code:
fastboot boot Ares8A_recovery_twrp.img
14.) On the device tap the Install button
15) Browse to the SuperSU zip and tap it
16.) Swipe to flash it
17.) Reboot your tablet
You are now rooted!
Final Steps:
18.) Go to Settings
19.) Tap the build number till it says, you are now a developer (this will unlock the Developer Options)
20.) Go to Developer Options
21.) Make sure the OEM unlocking option is on (DO NOT turn this back off, as it's required to have an unlocked bootloader)
Update
It appears the OEM Unlocking toggle might not need to be turned on to unlock the bootloader, somehow this device accepts an unlock reguardless of the setting in my testing. (It still boots and works perfectly like you took that step)
Thanks, man, do you know if this works in Nextbook Ares 10A device?

It's mostly newer devices that work with the unlock command that comes with fastboot, a lot of the older ones require the one you tried (excluding devices that require different unlocking procedure)
I am considering picking up a 10A. I see the 8A root solution works, however there are partition differences between the 8A and the 10A. Does anyone know what can be done in the 8A TWRP and what can not be done? For example, does TWRP make a proper backup image of the factory system? I fear I will format a partition and break the thing beyond repair

Brickseek shows them locally for $25.00! If so, I will pick up a couple. I may need you to help walk me through backing things up so you can get what you need. If they really have them I will get back to you and we will see if we can get a solid copy of the factory data.

How to root nextbook 11a gen 2 nx16a11264s [android]
Since the previous post was for the Windows and Linux versions do you have complete instructions specifically for the ANDROID NX161A11264S version? This procedure does have it's risks and I would hate to brick my 2-in-1 Android tablet. Thank you! [submitted by KodiChaser - [email protected]]

Is your device a laptop 2-in-1 like mine is? If yours doesn't work maybe you could try the procedure for upgrading Android 5.1 to 6.0 ? It's just a thought.

Well i guess if you follow it step by step there won't be any problem. If you get stuck at some point just comment here. And installing adb is just like the normal installation of any setup files in windows.Regarding the flashing of twrp there is nothing much to do than the steps mentioned above. If you still need a video go for this.https://youtu.be/kmq2Eyzl3wA NOTE:This video makes use of files for the sd410 model,so don't use the files in that video.Get the files from this post. This video can make you familiarize the process, but steps mentioned here is slightly different.

Internal Storage Files Missing
After I flashed TWRP and then entered it, it asked for a password to decrypt my storage. I didnt set any password for my phone so I pressed cancel after which came the TWRP menu. But once I selected the install option so as to flash the supersu file, I was unable to find my zip file in it. When I searched for solution, they said it was because my storage is encryted that I was'nt able to acces the data. They adviced to format data through wipe option in TWRP. But still no use. And to add to the problem, when I tried to reboot into system, I was left with a black screen and couln't get to the homescreen.
Please consider my problem and hoping for your fast reply.

Boot back into twrp home screen - WIPE- FORMAT DATA , after that, also from twrp , REBOOT-RECOVERY, after that, go ahead and flash the root file and then try to boot into home screen.
Place the root file on an external sd card.

I guess you have copied the super su file to external sd card.Formatting data as mentioned by jide1 did remove the encryption for me.If it doesn't work do advanced wipe with only the data, cache and dalvik cache boxes checked.Note:don't check any other box. Then reboot into twrp.Go to mount in twrp and see that your external sd is mounted. Now access the external sd card in install option and you will find the files of super su.

Flash twrp again ,disconnect usb cable from pc, then press and HOLD "volume down" AND "power button" when device vibrates, RELEASE "power button" WHILE still holding "volume down" , that should do the job.

I did so I formated my sd card and then extracted the zip with dload folder into the sd card. After that I removed the sd card and put it back into the phone and then I pushed vol up and vol down and then pushed the power button. after a while the honor screen turned on and after that the recovery emui utility installed the android and that was it! Thank you for helping me to unbrick this device I really appreciate it I wanted it to flash it originally with lineage only because of privacy concerns, would you give me tips on how to make the phone more privacy related? so it will spy on me lesser? I mean is it possible to get near lineage os in terms of privacy?

***** One last tip: You should create a backup of your Mobile Data using TWRP recovery.
It will make a backup (of size of about 4.2 GB) of Your Whole "Data and OS" and store it in SD Card (or in your computer.)
