CASE SCENARIO:
My brother went out having a good time last friday. But then he met this girl who played with his phone. She tried guessing his pattern lock so many times that he eventually got locked out.
So now you just enter your login info, and password for the google account you created it with, right?
My brother is not always that smart, so ofcourse he couldn't remember the login details and came crying to me.
Truth is that many people tend to have an email at another provider and never use their gmail account.
SOLUTION:
YOU WILL NEED TITANIUM BACKUP PRO FROM MARKET, OTHERWISE THIS WILL NOT WORK!
OK, in this case it was my brothers Samsung Galaxy S2, but it should in theory work with any device that has an unlocked, or unlockable bootloader.
If your device is rooted with CWM you can skip the step about flashing a recovery/rooting.
If you device isn't rooted you are going to flash a kernel that has ClockWorkMod recovery in it. For SGS2 you can download Siyah from here:
http://gokhanmoral.com
Ensure that you download the TAR version of the kernel.
This is only for ICS ROMs, so if you run Gingerbread you will have to find another kernel for that. CF-ROOT for instance:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Ensure that the latest Kies is installed as it contains all drivers needed for connection.
Download Odin from here:
http://www.google.dk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&sqi=2&ved=0CCIQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fattachment.php%3Fattachmentid%3D581913%26d%3D1304094576&ei=l0mcT-f7EsbHtAa37chO&usg=AFQjCNF7sF0f2yJp0IxHp1ISlP2fzGKhtw&sig2=FVQjxEz15dtQzJjNVZ_xZg
Extract contents to a folder and run the EXE file inside.
Now click on the button that says PDA and locate the TAR file you downloaded (the kernel).
Power off the SGS2 and wait a minute or 2. Eventually pull the battery.
Now hold VOLUME DOWN, HOME, POWER in that order, and keep holding them until a menu comes up. It will ask you if you want to enter Download Mode.
Press VOLUME UP once to accept.
It should be in download mode now.
Connect the device and wait until it says added in the textbox (Odin program).
Another box in the upper left corner should turn green as well.
Untick the option were it says Auto Reboot, and press the start button to flash the kernel.
Wait until it says successfull and remove the USB cable.
Hold the POWER button until it turns off or pull the battery.
Now hold VOLUME UP, HOME, POWER in that order, and keep holding them until the recovery comes up.
In the recovery there should be a option to perform a nandroid backup. Choose to backup, and wait for it to finish.
After it finishes, return using the back button and choose Factory Reset/Wipe everything. Don't worry, you just made a backup.
After it finishes, return with back button and choose reboot system.
When it boots up, you can set up your ROM as you like, but please use a Gmail account you remember and write it down this time
You should be back at a very clean ROM without much in it. Open google (Play Store) market and download Titanium Backup. You will need the pro version and that is a must. It is a very good program, so the money is well spent (I am not affiliated with Titanium Track).
On your phone go to Settings -> Applications and tick the checkbox to allow Unknown Sources. Go to Development and enable USB Debugging.
Open Titanium Backup and click past all welcome screens/changelog etc.
In main windows press menu button and click [More]
Choose to Extract from Nandroid Backup
It should show you the nandroid backup you created earlier. Click it and in the next window click Select All and then Restore.
This can take a while, but when it finishes, reboot your device and all should be good.
If you have a HTC Device you should be able to unlock the Bootloader following instructions from htcdev.com and then flash a ClockWorkMod based recovery.
You then need to flash a rooted version of your ROM or root it otherwise, then the procedure is the same with TB.
Please use the thanks button if you find this useful.

I followed the following instructions on the serendipity website but after going through steps 1-12, I ended up with an unrooted Samsung GT-I9000 2.3.3 which cannot be rooted with SuperOneClick 1.9.5 (using both GingerBreak and psneuter). Since the last portion of the installation requires CWM Recovery, I think this might not work.
I am pretty sure that somebody is going to scold me for posting this thread with the answer right in front of me; I swear that I tried looking for somebody who had this same problem, but couldn't find anything remotely close.
On a side note, this phone is a Samsung Captivate. When I did the first instance of Odin, I pressed volume up and down at the same time to get into download mode. When I did it the second time (after it had been upgraded to the GT-I9000), I had to press power and down volume to get to Download, so I'm pretty sure the version of phone has changed.
I don't know what I did wrong in the instructions; I would have posted this to this thread, but xda-developers won't let me post to the developer section. I couldn't find anyone else with the same problem. Please help. Thank you. (This is non-vital, the phone still works and I'm able to send/receive calls, but for some reason the home button doesn't work. I can live without that for a few days)
Installation:
1. Download this package.
2. Open Odin3 1.7.
3. Select the PDA, PHONE, CSC, and PIT files in their correct spots.
4. Connect phone in download mode. Use a USB port that's on your motherboard (the ones on the back of the computer). Use the Samsung USB cable.
5. Ensure that Auto-reboot and Re-Partition are both checked. These have a tendency to change after plugging the phone in, so double check them.
6. This is where the bootloader will be flashed, along with stock Gingerbread. Hit Start.
7. Allow the phone to boot.
8. Close Odin3, and open a fresh one. Select Reorient_Kernel_1.1 in the PDA box.
9. Reboot into download mode (adb reboot download, or hold Vol Down + Power).
10. Plug the phone into the computer.
11. MAKE SURE RE-PARTITION IS NOT CHECKED. If it is, you'll soft-brick and have to start over.
12. Flash the kernel (hit start). Allow the phone to reboot.
~IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY ON A SAMSUNG-BASED GINGERBREAD ROM WITH BOOTLOADERS (NOT CM or MIUI), START HERE~
13. Place the ROM .zip (You know, the one you downloaded from the giant link up there) onto the SD Card.
14. Reboot into Recovery (adb reboot recovery, or Vol Up + Power).
15. Flash ROM with CWM.
16. Enjoy!
Note, you will get some popup at start about not having network time. Just hit cancel and pretend it never popped up.
if u did step 11 and 12 you should have the reoriented kernel installed and hold vol up+power to get into cwm recovery mode and choose install from zip option, choose the zip which should be on ur sd card before. then u can flash S7 .zip and wham ban thank you ma'am u got it done

Since you're pure stock (no root or unlocked), there only a few things you can try:
1. Cold boot (turn off, then hold volume down and power button until you see white text on screen, now release both buttons. Next hit the volume button to move the highlighted to the Android icon, then hit the volume up button twice.
2. Factory reset (go to settings - backup and restore. This will wipe out all your setup/apps/data etc..reset back to like when you brought it new )
3. Manually upgrade (IF YOU DON'T WANT TO DO STEP 2 - Download full Asus firmware, unzip the file then copy the new zip file to the root of your sdcard, you should see an "update notification" popup in the notification), tab on it and upgrade.
4. May want to give Asus tech a call to find out why the update is not working.(this is your choice as an option).
Good luck!
EDIT: Make sure you have a backup of all your important stuff.

Factory reset did the job, right after it rebooted from the reset, I got the warning for system update.
Thanx
I looked all over and didn't find anything regarding this problem on here, or anywhere else online.
Rooted my infuse awhile back, added clockwork mod earlier today successfully. Shortly after, attempted upgrading to jelly bean and fudged it all up.
My phone just shows the Samsung logo upon startup and stays that way for awhile.
After trying to hard reset (holding down the power and volume buttons), the screen that shows up is the attached picture. Its all jumbled and weird.
I can't get into download mode.
Am I screwed or what?
Nope. Not screwed at all. You need to flash gingerbread bootloaders. Do a search and you shall find the procedure.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
As the post above says, you need Gingerbread bootloaders. To expand on that, and to get you to where you need to be, take the battery out of your phone and put it back in.
Now that it's off, boot it into CWM: hold down both volume buttons along with home and press the power button. The second you see anything come on the screen, release the power button but continue to hold everything else. Continue to hold these until you see a solid colored background which is CWM.
It may still look very messed up like the picture you posted. Hopefully you'll get a somewhat legible CWM (You should.). Navigate your way to installing the right zip if you have it on your phone. If not, plug in your phone to your computer and go to mounts and storage -> mount USB storage and transfer the right zip onto your phone.
If this fails miserably, do what you can to try to get to download mode. If you do all the right things, chances are it will go into download mode, and at this point it doesn't matter if you can see it or not. If you get here, and ODIN recognizes your phone, you might just want to follow this and start over -- [ODIN][UCLB3] UCLB3 Unbrick - Return to stock.
If you get the Return To Stock going, all you need to do from there to get a more recent ROM going (ICS+) is to get Entropy's CM9 running, which will ensure you are on ICS, enabling you to install Jellybean. If you get this fixed, I recommend CM10.2, Slim Bean, or Beanstalk. Once you get those up and running, you'll love it. The only thing you will have to do (after loving your new phone) is to thank the awesome devs or (even better) donate to these guys that do lots of work for no money.

I appreciate the help. Unfortunately I don't get a legible CWM at all, just what you see in my previous photo. Also, my computer doesn't recognize the phone when I plug it in.
From your help, I understand how to get it working after I can get into the phone's system. I guess my problem now is getting the computer to recognize that its plugged in. It seems going into the CWM (holding volume and power) just keeps giving me the same screen. even if I scroll blindly and try to pick options, nothing happens.
Good luck
Please go and learn the unbrick Odin to stock GB with root guide first. This it's your key!
The unbrick tool guide mentionned in the previous replies is the working and proven tool, but first you must be in download mode.
It's a must to FIRST download and install Samsung Kies on your PC for the drivers or else your phone won't connect (vol Up,vol down simultaneously together while connecting to PC via USB)
Follow the Odin guide in the previous reply step by step and with a cool mind.Don't stress!!!
Try searching for the real download mode procedure as I forgot it.It's found in the unbrick guide mentioned.
If you still can't be in download mode, search the Web a lot and try to do this:
Let your phone battery die out (leave the screen on till it dies or try restarting a few times to let it die.Remove battery.
Forget the phone for a whole day.
Then try to put it back to download mode on your PC.No need to put battery back. The phone will switch on!
But first learn the unbrick Odin to stock guide as it's the whole key to your problem!
If you succeeded, then here is your first step to flash a ROM.
This is a thread for a working CWM on infuse.I used the 04.30 1.2GHz version and you can install it without going into recovery mode using SGS Kernel Flasher in play store for free:

I followed the above instructions and upgraded the Samsung galaxy infuse 4G from gingerbread 2.3 to Android Jelly Bean 4.3.
It will be difficult for you to do unless you know computers well. You will need 1 to 3 hours to complete.
Every single little step must be followed, pretty much fill in every single step.
First you must obtain CWM, it's a flashing utility which is accessed at boot up by holding Volume up + volume down + power
Phase 1:
---------
To obtain CWM head over too Jscotts odin url.
1. download the file which includes root access.
"Stock UCLB3 with root
UCLB3_Unbrick_root_1.1.zip"
2. you will also need Samsung Kies, which will install the usb driver for your Samsung galaxy. The link is on the website.
3. Place your phone into Download mode
To do this, have your usb cable for your phone plugged into the computer but disconnected from your phone. shut off your phone. When the power is off press Volume up and Volume down simultaneously, after the buttons are pressed plug in the usb cable at the same time, which should be connected to the computer.
This will place the phone in Download mode.
4. open the included Odin.exe, when you see the yellow bar under ID:COM then everything is good.
Follow the rest of the instructions on jscotts website.
Finally when this procces is done, reboot into android.
Phase 2:
---------
1) Download SGS kernel flasher
2) Click on the link on jscotts website to download a stock kernel which contains CWM. use "2013.04.30-CWM-Synthesis-1.2Ghz.zip
Phase 3:
----------
description:
Convert the phone from gingerbread 2.3 to ICS Android 4.0, as the instructions say.
Head over too: Entropy's CM9 website:
forum.xda-developers.co...hp?t=1601844
1) There are 3 links on the website for Cynogen 9 rom for Samsung infusion 4g, any one is ok. Download CG9 for Samsung infusion 4g. version along with the Gapps.
2) After saving both zip's on your sd internal memory, shut off your phone. Press both volume up and volume down and power at the same time.
The phone will boot into CWM.
3) Make a backup of your original rom for your phone before proceeding.
4) Select Flash zip, select your ICS android 4.0 rom which you saved on your internal sd. (ie: "cm-9-20120620-UNOFFICIAL-infuse4g.zip"
5) Install GAPPS as well, after step 4 is complete.
Again for the full instructions please follow the instructions on "Firmware][ICS]UNOFFICIAL CM9 for the Infuse 4G (07/28/2012)"
Phase 4
--------
1. Boot into CWM again buy pressing Volume up + Volume Down + power.
2•Install ROM: Scroll down for downloads section
•... The package will start to install..
•... Phone will reboot into the install screen again...
•... Continue to install [Automatically] If not manually flash again
•... Phone will reboot again and be at the recovery screen...
3. Install Gapps
4. •CWM: Wipe Cache Partition
5. •CWM: Advanced/Wipe Dalvik Cache
6. •Reboot
FINISH.

Thank you! I will attempt this when I get home from work and see what happens.
Hi guys.
So, I am running MOAR (android 4.4.2) on my GS5. I terminated with sprint, and need to return my lease.
I have a few APK's on this phone that I can't seem to find in the appstore - I took a helium backup of those and I hope I can restor them to my new Tmobile LG-G5.
But besides that -
I want to wipe/clear the entire phone and restore it to stock.
Tips? hints? walkthroughs?
Help!. Thanks.
:good::good::good:
the most solid way to fully restore to stock is to flash a tarball in Odin. Here is an OK4 based tar.md5 that will fit the bill pretty well. Im not sure how well versed you are in this kind of stuff, so forgive me if im telling you stuff that you already know.
1: download Odin here and the OK4 tarball here
2: run odin as administrator
3: inside odin, on the right hand side, click the button marked "AP" and select the tar.md5 file you downloaded
4: put your phone into download mode (press and hold vol down, home and power until it powers off then release power but continue holding the other 2. If your phones firmware doesnt force reboot with that button combo, then pull the battery out, put it back in, then hold vol down, home and power until it vibrates and release power continuing holding the other two. Both of those scenarios should bring you to a screen that warns you that you could break your phone if you continue)
5: Connect your phone via micro usb
6: let the drivers install on your computer
7: press start in odin
You should see a progress bar going on both odin and the phone and once its done, youll have a "factory fresh" ROM. Only thing left to do at that point is to delete internal storage and you should be good to go.
---------- Post added at 05:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:43 PM ----------
oh, those apks that you cant find in the appstore anymore should be in the root of the internal storage under system/app and the apk itself should be in the folder of the app youre looking for for instance google hangouts apk is in /system/app/hangouts/hangouts.apk
also, the odin restore will also flash a stock recovery, so before you do that stuff you should go into whatever recovery you use and wipe internal storage.
Hey thanks.
I'm about to do this. I just used TWRP to 'reset' the phone / wipe system data etc.
On Odin (3.10.7) options tab is a RTN for Sprint option. What's that? Do I need to check it? Auto Restart?

Damn my impatience.
So I did all this - used TWRP to wipe the phone / reboot into download.
Connected phone in download mode to odin
put the TAR.MD5 file in AP
Odin takes a minute or 3 to check this.
When ready, hit START (Options Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time are checked)
3:40 seconds later - PASS.
Phone, however, sits there with "recovery rebooting" in blue at the top left. 10 minutes now, nothing...

You booted to Download using TWRP, thats why it failed. Turn off the phone and do it as supposed. VOL Down + HOME + POWER.

Thanks.
I pulled the battery and rebooted to download, applied via ODIN a second time, and it failed.
Rebooted, phone said "update failed - attach phone to KIES and try again" - so I applied via ODIN > WIN!
I'm good to go now!
Thanks for all the help, really. Yes, I thought I booted to download cleanly, but you're right - my impatience I probably had TWRP boot me to download.
John
glad to hear you got it working!
Just rooted my phone with ODIN/TWRP. One of the reasons was I wanted multiple user support as I'm using this phone as a second phone (no SIM card) that my son can play with, but wanted to have a user account on it as well.
Stupidly, googled this which seemed harmless enough..
[I can't post URL's yet so had to delete this line]
Adjusted the build.prop file as it mentioned, saved it to another directory, and then saved that file over the one in the System directory.
Sure enough, selected "reboot" on my phone, and now it won't power up. If I press power/vol down key it brings up the Galaxy S6 shot, and then just a black screen.
I tried going back into TWRP recovery mode and reflashing Odin, but end up with the same result.
I know, I should have asked here before I messed with the build.prop file, but when the same answer came up on 2 or 3 different public sites indicating how to adjust it to add multi-user support, I stupidly figured it was a simple fix!
Any help getting the phone back would be appreciated! Does Multiple User support even work on this phone!?
Flash stock rom with Odin or just do emergency software recovery from SmartSwitch. When phone try to reboot, force turn off (10 sec press power button) and then enter recovery (vol up+power+home) and wipe data.
This should do it.

Hmmm...didn't seem to work. Same issue as the phone just ends up with a black screen.
