sale G2x and buy Atrix? - T-Mobile LG G2x

should i sell my g2x and buy motorola atrix?? the reason of sale obviously ICS.. because i see no sign of G2x getting official ICS

You should also buy some books on proper English grammar. Sell, not sale.
But, Atrix is on At&t, don't you have a T-Mobile plan currently? Just get the Galaxy Nexus for $400 instead.

If you can look beyond that its a really great phone. Will the Atrix get the new "jelly bean" os? I have no idea what they are gonna call it. It's a common issue with some android phones/ Manufacturers.

how much can you get an Atrix for?

At&t nor Tmobile is available where he resides.

The atrix is extremely laggy. I've used one. I think it's something to do with the motoblur or whatever they use.
Sent from my Handheld Portal Device

Despite having twice the RAM as the G2x, I've noticed the Atrix is MUCH slower, in fact despite the RAM and the screen differences the Atrix and G2x (say both their names real fast and they even sound alike..lol!) can almost be twins. I also considered getting one to play with (found a used one for $180), but I checked it's section here on XDA and I didn't find any ICS roms for it. I don't think it's going to be upgraded to JellyBean, considering it's probably not getting ICS. Even as a toy I wouldn't get one at this point. Get a Galaxy Nexus from Google. While a modded G2x will pummel a Gnex into submission performance wise, the Gnex is a solid stable reliable phone with some decent power. I was sad with it when games looked and ran better on the G2x (I'm not kidding....it's like comparing a Camaro SS to a Honda Accord V6...a comparison more apt than you can imagine), but the overall stability and guaranteed updates on the GNex really make it shine. It also helps that the screen is beautiful and titanic on the GNex. Not that the G2x screen is bad (I actually think the G2x screen looks better than the one on my iPhone 4s in some cases).

Motorola said q3 for the atrix ICS I believe.
I would still rather have the G2X.

Was that really necessary? Did you not understand what OP meant?

Atrix is another dead platform Tegra 2. Support the chip makers that are more open - TI OMAP or Qualcomm Snapdragon or even Samsung Exynos.

Atrix 4G and Atrix 2 (Omap not Tegra) are both getting ICS in 3rd quarter of this year. More than likely the G2X is not getting ICS. I have an Atrix 2 I am using in Thailand and it is a great phone. No lags and performs great.

Next Phone?

The Captivate community here on XDA is nothing but awesome. So, I'm asking everyone: where are you going next? Will you be switching to Motorola and the Atrix 4G? Sticking it out with Samsung and the Infuse 4G? Maybe an Inspire 4G?
Please vote in the poll. I'm interested in seeing where Captivate owners are planning to head in the next couple of months.
PSA: Atrix 4G Pre-orders are LIVE! Only $399 off-contract with $100 discount!
I don't know because I have over a year on my contract. By that time who knows where we will be. I do think next time I get a phone it will be after its been out for a while. If it were the next couple months I think it would be the atrix.
This is my captivate. There are many like it buy this one is mine.
Im seriously considering the atrix but the infuse looks impressive they both have awesome features...im torn.

The Atrix is going where I've wanted to be for a while. If my phone is as powerful as a laptop, why have two separate devices? I'm a bit upset about the Infuse because it's what the Galaxy S line should have been. That all being said, I'll probably cave for the Infuse because of the "flashability" and brilliant screen.

Most people would disagree about your statement on the Galaxy S supposed to have been like the Infuse. I like a 4" screen and beyond that the Infuse really does not make much of an impact. The bad thing about the Galaxy S is Samsung not releasing source code.
I have 2yrs left on my contract so by that time phones will be installed into our brains
I despise Motorola phones, so I'm not touching those.
Samsung has been reliable, I'm not sure that I'd want to deal with the Captivate's jank anymore, and I don't trust Samsung to provide updates especially if they're corrupted with TouchWiz.
I love using HTC phones and their spec sheets and feel just seem so refined.
Alas, I'll probably defect from ATT. They've thrown too much crap into my face over the past 6 years. My employer can foot for my business phone, its service is far too unreliable for me. I'm probably going to Verizon.

I am a fan of the Infuse's front facing camera, 8 mp main camera with flash and moderately improved processor. When the Captivate was released, it was competing with the Evo and Iphone 4, both of which had better specs (on paper). I worry that AT&T will cripple the Infuse as they did the Captivate and take away it's competitive features to conserve network bandwidth. Plus I'll need evidence that the GPS works on the Infuse ;-)

You get me.
I think most ppl expectation of the Atrix is too high, unless you plan on running it stock.
And for those dead set on getting it, be prepared for a big change when it comes to Motorola development section, not much happening there compared to Samsung section.
I will wait about a month or so after release before buying 2 of the units in the poll (off-contract). I've learned that having patience on buying any electronic device that is first introduce can save you alot of headaches.
Well, I don't really have a manufacturer preference and I don't buy phones as an update, ie, not locked into 2 more years so I shop around different carrier phones. Actually though I get a great ATT plan through work so I'm not leaving, still using original iPhone unlimited data plan.
That said, I got my wife the HTC HD2 and about 2 weeks ago loaded the NAND version of Cyanogen. I must say if there is a newer version of the HD2 that runs Android, and works with ATT 3g in about a year or so i will be all over it. That is actually quite an awesome phone and if it worked with ATT 3g I might actually trade her.
I'm betting MWC doesn't bring AT&T much. Perhaps the second Galaxy S, but I'm thinking it will launch in several months, like the Captivate did.
MWC - February 2010 - Announcement of Galaxy S GT-I9000
Captivate announced - late June 2010
Captivate released - July 2010
The Atrix is looking at a possible March launch. So, it'll probably be a few months ahead of the Galaxy S2.
After dealing with Samsung's lack of updates, GPS problems, shut down problems, I'm personally inclined to give Motorola a shot with the Atrix. Let's hope there is an unlocked bootloader.

Thinking about getting a new phone, but which road do I take?

With the SGS II not coming to Canada anytime soon, Im looking for a different android phone to play around with and probably end up keeping in the long run. I was dead set on getting an Atrix purely for the power of the phone and the lapdock accessory, after seeing most of the reviews saying that I was better off getting an actual laptop for the same price and could do far more itself, Im kinda leaning off the Atrix trail atm. So I was thinking about either the Nexus S or the HTC Incredible S. Or should I still go ahead with the Atrix (Even though that pretty little bootloader still aint unlocked)?

Skip the Atrix as the software (and Motoblur) is terrible - the hardware is amazing, but it feels crippled by the crappy software, The HTC Incredible S is a nice phone, IMO it doesn't excel in any one category, but overall is a pretty good device. Note that if you are into modding, the Incredible S has a locked bootloader and root still has not been achieved on it for the Bell version.
The Nexus S is pretty good, but is missing a couple of things I like (LED notification light and an SD card slot), but it is a stock Google phone and should be great for modding. I'm currently on a SE Arc - overall, I think I prefer it to the Incredible S and the Nexus S.
BTW, some of the UK sellers are now selling the Galaxy S II if you want to pick one up.

Yes, they would. Check out clove.co.uk and expansys for more information.
If the Sensation has the same camera (8 MP) as the Incredible S, then I would suggest that you look at alternate camera's. While it's great to have a 8MP camera, the Incredible S camera is not as good as some of the other 8MP camera's.
Personally, I would lean towards the Galaxy S II!
i'd go with the nexus s

I think the SGS II costs about $680 (GBP440), not $900.
Anyway, I found the software on the Atrix bad enough to sell it a couple of months into ownership. There are a few issues on the Rogers/Fido network with the Atrix - e.g. capped upload speeds (max 384kb upload), issues with displaying Caller ID with name and issues with wifi hot spots. The hardware is amazing, but I wish I could install HTC Sense on it (never going to happen due to a locked bootloader).
It's your call in the end, but maybe it's better to wait for the prices to come down.

Yea was doing a bit more research on the Atrix and found out that issue as well. When you say $680, that canadian or US? The cappy i have right now, got someone to buy it for $500. So I guess forking out $200 more shouldnt hurt.
I will go for Incredible S. Why? Just preference. What I normally do is if you really can't decide, head to the shop and try the feel of the phone.
If you are leaning towards hardware and stuff, then of course would need more advise on those who had hands on experience with it.
Just my 2 cents.

[Q] What will your next device be?

Hey guys,
As we all probably know, most of us are not happy with motorola's product the XT720 and some of us are stuck with it just because we paid so much for the phone. The locked bootloader and poor support are just a few reasons to hate moto.
I'm interested in knowing what your next device would most probably be when eventually you want to move on and ditch motorola. For me it'd most likely be either a google product or something from the samsung range. Unlocked boatloaders, great support and constant updates + powerful hardware. Please enlighten me!
too early for me to say for sure as i dont have plans to get anything new anytime soon, but: 1: not motorola 2: probably either a SE device as i love how they look and they seem sincere in their support for their devices or a nexus line. all subject to change of course
In October, I can get me a new mobile (I can extend my contract). If nothing better comes in, then I will choose one of the following devices:
-Motorola Atrix
-Motorola Milestone 3
-HP Pre 3 (yeah, WebOS fascinates me )

As i can say: NO, NO,NO to htc and moto.
Everyone else.. maybe..
My contract is also expiring next month, so I'm looking for new handset already. So, what's in my mind???
1. Motorola Atrix
Ya, most of you will said no more Motocrap. I always like Moto's hardware quality. So, if and only if they unlock the bootloader and it is possible to install custom roms like CM7, then I would take it. (There is already a leaked rom with unlocked bootloader. Everything is working except it's just not official update)
2. LG Optimus Black
This slim and shady guy is very slim and light-weighted. And truly it is a hacker's phone. Nothing is locked down. opened booloader, open NAND, now CM7 is already on the way to this phone. The problem is, LG's hardware quality is crap. And I also have doubt that this one would qualify.
3. Samsung Galaxy S II
Like it very very much. It has been a dreamed phone for me recently. But it's a bit pricy. S$348 with 2 years contract @ Starhub. Unless they give me a $200 discount voucher, I won't buy this phone.
4. Google Nexus S
If the 3 above is not applicable, this guy will be mine. No SD slot but 16Gb of NAND drive is more than enough for me. Though one this is still bugging me, no HDMI output. hmmm
guys, let me hear your suggestion. which one shall I take?
Just checked out the ATRIX. Wow, lol I want one. Its uncanny how even after the XT720 motorola continues to seduce me...haha
Well I got the XT720 because of the Xenon flash.
Not many phones out there with a Xenon.. may have to switch to another OS whilst I wait for an Android device with Xenon.
Definitely iPhone

if you like the galaxy s2 so much, you could always cross the border and buy it there, its only RM2099 (around SGD854) compared to SGD998, or wait for the cheaper galaxy Z (Tegra2/SLCD/5mp)..
Optimus Black and Nexus S is not in the same league as Atrix and SGS2, so those should not be compared directly..

And lack of support? WebOS get updates every 6 weeks or so and upgrades when an upgrade is ready (most of the time, that is).

I'd really recommend getting the Galaxy SII (not Skyrocket).
Just. Plain. Old. Sexy. Classy. SII.
The Skyrocket has a larger screen (4.5"), but from what I hear, it seems to have a few more issues than the SII original. Regardless, I still hear it's a great phone, but I think as far as getting future updates and Samsung support, original Galaxy SII is the safest bet.
If you really want a huge phone, look at the Galaxy Note.
And... Stay away from the Infuse. It's considered really old and outdated now. Yes, it's still a perfectly usable phone and it performs everyday tasks wonderfully. But when you can get the SII now for $100 or less, I just don't see why you'd want to lock into 2 years with a phone that is already a year old.
Plus, if you're a gamer, you definitely want to go with SII and not the Infuse. The RAM difference makes some games not be "compatible" with the Infuse.
To be honest, stay away from Samsung phones. I have two, a captivate and a infuse. I'm over Samsung because of the way they shelve their phones after a couple of months and all the problems in their software. I bought an Atrix 2 and its the best phone i have ever had. At first i wasnt sure about it because its a moto phone. Now that i have had it awhile i recommend this phone to anyone. Best battery life, 4 gb of space for apps and i got an over the air update on the second day of me having the phone. Its on the list for a ics update too. I have not had one single problem with this phone. Just my opinion but i would not get a samsung.

I also wouldn't recommend the Infuse. I love mine, but it seems to be considered "dead" in AT&T's eyes.

^^^ 100% agreed, but as well I do love mine too. I'm just glad we still at least have a team of Dev's that are active on ROM Updates.

I guess I'm a Samsung fan boy. I have always had a Samsung, even before smart phones. I had a Captivate which I gave to my wife when I went with an Infuse. Really love the big screen and I would get a Note if I had the money.....Really doesn't matter if AT&t never pushes out any updates, because I am running CM7.
I recommend the Galaxy S II (i777). I like the Infuse and Skyrocket, but the i777 is perfect. I'd also recommend the Skyrocket over the Infuse, purely because of the RAM difference. The Infuse can't be my daily device, because I need more RAM. So, in my opinion . . .
Galaxy S II (i777) > Skyrocket > Infuse
Samsung may have its issues with software, but theres no denying that their products are well made. Almost everything in my house is made by Samsung. They never die.
That aside, what is your budget and requirements? If you have the money and like the size, get a Note. I've heard nothing but good things about it and developers here are already playing with it. There doesn't seem to be any love for the Skyrocket though. If you're strapped for cash, I'd definately look into the Infuse. The price fluctuates from $50 to free sometimes, so you might get a great deal on one. It's one of the best phones I've ever had. All of the software issues have already been resolved by the devs here. While it may be a little dated by 2012 standards, it handles almost everything I throw at it and you just can't brick it. That's something those ****ty HTCs and Motorolas can't claim.

Well put, saving me the efforts of typing in the same.
Thank you all. Based on all you have said, and my research I think I am going to go with the Sony xperia ion. Any hints as to when it's coming out? I have seen q2, I have seen the end of March.

Samsung is where its at and if you plan on rooting and flashing Roms sammies are 99% unbrickable. As long as you read.....and you WON'T find a more helpful community than the good folks on the skyrocket side!

Not bad
The infuse is a nice phone from what I have experienced. Doesn't look like it will get CM9 though so I would avoid it.
The screen is absolutely beautiful despite it's pitiful resolution. The colors are stunning and viewable from all angles making pictures better looking than what you took a picture of! Also sometimes I forget I am reading off of my phone when using google books and think it's my kindle.
RAM is pitiful (512?! Really Samsung??) but the phone operates smoothly despite.
Battery life is better than anything HTC has to offer.
I am personally looking for an Atrix 4g and it's laptop dock. Pretty sweet combo.
I got the skyrocket. Nice phone.

The Samsung Infuse is no longer for sale.

I brought up the thread for ICS which was a happy thing, but this is a sad topic. According to the att website, it is no longer available. It was on sale for a year, and it was one of ATT's biggest selling phone for a long time. It is now retired What are your thoughts on this? Btw heres the link to prove: http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/cellphones.html
the infuse was out of production within about 3 months of release. any infuses sold after that were either overstock or refurb. this is no new news. no surprise. it's a nice phone with nice cameras and a big readable screen but it was the last single core flagship phone and was released after dualcores were common. it's out of date and less powerful than many second rate phones on the market today in processing power.
i dont think a better phone is necessary, but the hardware profile combined with the samsung firmware keeps rom ports from ever being viable without sacrifices. as much as i have loved the phone it's about to be time for something new.
I completely agree with Dani, when i purchased my infuse i knew it was second string with the galaxy s 2 already out. I was on a tight budget and it was the best option and im not surprised it is no longer for sale especially with the s3 coming very soon!
This is saddening but understandable news. I bought my Infuse back in November 2011, non-contract for $485 after taxes at my local AT&T store, the sales rep actually brought me out a Galaxy S II at first and asked me if I wanted that instead.
I paused for a moment and told him I did my research on both phones and told him I preferred the Infuse's specs. Was satisfied with the RAM, the single core, and impressed that it had better battery life; not to mention it was a good $100 cheaper. I was coming from the Motorola Backflip and just couldn't take the constant slow downs and limited internal storage any longer, and a bigger screen was what I needed.
Fast forward a few months, and here we are coming up on the stateside release of the Galaxy S III and ya know what, I'm still Infuse strong. Samsung did a better job on this phone than they realized. I'm not likely to get an S III because I'm still satisfied with this phone, even with my upgrade available in August. Don't get me wrong, the S III is an impressive phone in its own right, but now that we have ICS, I see no reason to jump ship, mine is sailing smoothly

The Infuse has never failed me and I have had mine since release. ALOT of people ask me if its a S2 and I say yes lol ... still runs everything I need very smoothly and I'm on stock 2.3

+1 on the not jumping ship part.
I dumped an Atrix for the Infuse and couldn't be happier. Faster boot, bigger screen and it performs better, running non rooted one-click 2.3.6.
I would be satisfied with one more "patch" update to fix the few bugs left in GB ... although I made my infuse a 100 times better last week by switching to straightalk lol

Sticking with Infuse but waiting on GOOG
With GOOG's announcement of a line of GNex devices this year I'm waiting on their offerings before giving up my Infuse to the kids.
The GSIII is impressive and so is the OneX. But the Infuse is a good phone for the money
I'd recommend the Ebay markets to get good deals if you're asked for a good non-contract smartphone.
Ohh on an off topic note. I tried to copy a home vid to my Mom-InLaw's new iP 4s and I couldn't. Even with iTunes and imported the video, I couldn't just copy it to the phone.
Android rocks, pure and simple.
Yeah... I am actually thinking about moving on to the S3. I love ICS. I have 2 infuses actually in the house. One is my gf's and one is mine. She doesn't need bluetooth, so I loaded hers up with Legend 2 with Apex and its AWESOME...
Now I look at mine on GB, I am like.... man.... I really like ICS in terms of speed and features. Its got some nice stuff....
So yeah, Infuse ICS w/o bluetooth really makes me sad...... So probably SGS3 coming my way.

Try using Holo Launcher, it is a near perfect copy of the stock ICS launcher. Makes me wonder why I need ICS when GB already runs smooth as butter.

Where's the race?
I use Go, and their last update introduced the ics animations for the app drawer. If all you are looking for is the feel and look, there are plenty of options via gingerbread. None really being the "winner" as with most things...its about personal preference.

Amazonwireless show they are still available...$99.00 for a family plan update or .01 for an individual account upgrade.

Stop... Please stop.
There's absolutely NO REASON to buy an Infuse when the SGS2 i777 has been going on sale for $9.99 new directly AT&T.
If you qualify for a subsidized upgrade and don't mind being stuck in another two year contract do yourself a favor and get a SGS3, SGS2, or SGS2 Skyrocket.
This phone is dead to Samsung. There will be no further updates. While the devs here are doing great work, the most stable ROMs are derived from official releases or leaks from Samsung.
My Infuse was a great phone but it's been relegated to being a backup phone/MP3 player.

I wasn't advocating that anyone purchase this phone. This thread was titled "Infuse No Longer Available".....I was stating that yes they are still available.
I got my Infuse earlier this year, just wanting to get rid of my iPhone. Android is better on any and every occasion. Now I just wish that I had got the GS2 or saved up for the note...
