Hi all,
I am an Australian user of XOOM. Its a 3G+WiF version MZ601.
I have updated to Eos_umts_everest_67 and gapps-ics-20120422-signed. After that I can not use the 3G feature. The fact is before it was on Eos_umts_everest_47 (I remember so) and 3G feature was not available either.
Error message I receive when I try to connect any Australian network is ''your sim card do not allow to connect to this network''. I have tried to use all different network sim cards but msg is same.
Can someone help me with the right ROM for ICS. I wont mind even if I need to roll back to Honeycomb but please suggest what Honeycomb rom I need to use for Australian XOOM.
Cheers
Hi, my Aussie mz601 is fine with 3G and wifi, I have just flashed to Team EOS 2.0.0. and all is very good. Are you sure you got the UMTS_Everest? Dont go back to honeycomb, yuk.
Is your Xoom from Australia or overseas?
Cheers
Motorola XOOM 3g feature unavailablere
Hi. How can I know if my xoom is Australian version or non Australian? I have flashed with EOS UMTS EVEREST 67. I am sure about that. I can not use the 3G feature for any network in Australia. I have tried all sim cards. I will flash with your suggested EOS UMTS 2.0. Let see what happens. Waiting help please. Cheers

Maybe someone with more experience than me, can advice me, if it worth, if it will work on Etisalat 3G network, and finally if those Xoom 3G released by Verizon and sell via E-bay are OK for my location. Thanks in advance !!!

Axiom in UAE is going to be selling the XOOM. Sure they can provide more information they have a direct tie up with Moto,
Cheers.
thanks dude, but as far as I know they will bring only WIFI....
The Verizon Xoom uses CDMA for 3G networks. If I remember correctly, Etisalat is GSM only, so it would not work. I'm not sure about 4G LTE though, but that's not active on the Motorola Xoom yet anyway.
BTW, I was in Fujairah a few weeks ago; my Verizon Xoom worked great on wifi.

ok, but in order to use the WI-FI, I need to be stuck in home or any other place which has a Wireless Network.....anyway, it looks like I have to wait for a while....
Maybe I become insistent, but I don't want to spend almost 1000$ for nothing. Can someone to confirm if this model Motorola XOOM MZ601 will work in my 3G network. I already read the details and also I check the compatibility list on above link, but.....i just want to make sure, maybe someone has the similar model and using in GSM network. Thanks in advance!
Does your network use sim card? If yes, then the Verizon Xoom won't work for you.
Verizon 3G Xoom uses CDMA, it won't work on GSM networks that use sim cards.
Hi guys,
First of all my apologies if I couldn't find this question in the current forums. I'm the proud owner of my imported Motorola XOOM 3G 32GB from USA to The Netherlands, and I started reading a lot in the XOOM section of XDA-Devs (already have a HTC HD2 with Android so already got a lot of Droid experience).
I've already rooted (& unlocked??) my XOOM with 1-Click Root & Unlock, but when I plug in my T-Mobile Netherlands SIM card, the tablet keeps hanging on 'Activating your XOOM..' (or something). Why is it called 1-Click Root & Unlock but it doesn't unlock my XOOM? Is it just for USA cellular?
I've also red a lot about the fact that they use other hardware in the USA for 3G data than in de EU (EV-GE(?) vs HSDPA), is this the reason why I can't use my 3G function in European Union? I don't hope so because when that's true, I purchased about 200 euro more on a 3G function which actually don't work here.
Please let me know if it's possible to use the 3G, or tell me the hard and painfull truth that it's not going to work in EUROPE ?
Any h4cks or something would be great!
Let me know and best wishes from the land of wooden shoes, The Netherlands.
Max.
Pretty sure your trying to activate a Verizon 3G version (cdma) on a uk 3G network (gsm). Not possible...at all...period...

I guess i'm not getting this right
I keep searching for a xoom 3G version but all i get is Verizon's only... I currently live in Saudi Arabia, and no providers are taking this tab on board of their plans... does this mean i'm stuck with the WiFi version? what if later on they started to support it, is it possible to upgrade it to use 3G, or is it the case that i will have to sell it and buy a new one if i need the 3G support?
the reason behind this is that not every place i go has wireless internet connection, and i would benefit from the 3G connectivity cause i will be able to use regardless of where i am as long as there is a signal.
anybody??
i kinda need this to make up my mind before i buy it, as it is a large investment USD 670
Thanks
The 3G version is currently/nominally on Verizon at this time, yes.
Its slowly rolling out to other carriers but I think mainly in wifi versions on.
What you COULD do, is if you own an android phone, user something like barnacle to do wifi tethering, and tether the wifi xoom to it, et voila, 3g access.
Hey ramyt,
I'm in Saudi too and I just ordered a Xoom. Whatever you do DO NOT get the 3G version from the US. This is NOT the same 3G we have here. The US 3G is based on CDMA, which is totally not compatible with our 3G which is a GSM based network.
What you want is the EU version of the Xoom 3G. You can pick one up at Hantec.co.uk or gummobile.com
Beware though, that the EU version of the Xoom is still stuck at Honeycomb Android version 3.0, while the US based Xooms have been updated to 3.1 (lots of goodies and bug fixes). Hopefully Motorola will be sending out 3.1 updates for the EU Xooms shortly.
As saifbarry pointed out, don't purchase a US 3G model.
The UK / Euro XOOMs will be GSM compatible and you can also buy them off contract. For example, www.carphonewarehouse.com sells the 3G XOOM in the UK. I'm sure there are probably other European retailers that sell the unsubsidised version, off-contract.

The idea crossed my mind. I have an HTC Desire, but there is a big problem with that approach, the tethering device will drain its battery like rocket speed.

hey saifbarry, thanks for that. did you manage to buy one for yourself? how is it working here is Saudi?
Bro why don't you try use a MIFI 3G router with your XOOM WiFi.you just need to plug in a 3g data sim card in to the MIFI 3G router then you can connect your XOOM with WIFI.
hello all,
i've a 3g verizon us xoom. may i install uk 3g xoom's rom on it?
may i use a 2g/3g sim card after that?
thanks
Same Problem
Hi developers,
I have a very similar problem, except for I'm trying to use my US (used to be Verizon - but I UNLOCKED it) with China Unicom's 3G sim card. It won't pick up signal. I wonder if that is possible and what I need to change in order for it to work.
Any help will be appreciated,
thanks
The US xoom is cdma 3g and not gsm, which is why it wont pick up signal. Also the simcard slot is not for the 3g but for 4g which isn't available yet. I would doubt it would work.

Verizons xoom is CDMA and the hardware is different, the sim slot in the verizon has no hardware yet. When the free hardware update comes in at some point it will be 4G not 3G.
So in short the answer is NO.
Lordao
YES! you can use any images on your verizon 3G XOOM!
I have tried several, and they ALL work!
you WILL get your SIM working as well!! but you will not be able to use the 3G GSM network, because the images do not contain the baseband files used for the radio.
Hardware differences have not been confirmed by anyone, people are just assuming. The radio chip used multi-frequency capable hence must be the same.
One must do a baseband firmware change, to find out if the CDMA to HSPA/GSM will work!

Ok
Thanks for your responses...
I'll go back to China Unicom and ask them for the CDMA 3G, since they're supposed to have that, too.

short: You can't.
long: you even cant replace the 3G module as the chip is soldered on the mainboard: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Motorola-Xoom-Teardown/4989/2#s22469
Better sell your CDMA2000 and buy a European 3G MZ601 which supports UMTS and HSPA.
