I really want this phone but i'm not with t-mobile to get the contract price and i'm too young to start a contract so i just wanna buy it off contract and go through less hassle. the cheapest i found was $549 but i can't afford it for that much so does anyone know a cheaper place to buy it?
Sorry kid, but cheapest I can come up with is about $450. If you wait a year, you might be able to get it for $250.

So I have been wondering for a while how we here on XDA like to buy our phones.
I hope to catch most everyone with the following categories. And please leave a comment on why you buy the way you do.
Please help me figure this out!
I always have to buy them outside from my country because immediate availability and better price
I trade my Phones on XDA, good deals lol
Sell my old phone on eBay and buy the new one I want at full retail.

I shop around for the best place to cash in my subsidization upgrade. Got my Focus for -$22 on contract!
online
I will look for online stores that can provide me handsets at discounted rates with complete reliability.
got my used T-Mob HD2 on ebay.. not available in my country, so the only possibility is to buy it from there..
I like buying my phones online since I get a better selection to choose from and no dealing with pushy salespersons....

I normally buy phones from Craigslist since people in my area don't really seem to know the worth of phones. I got my MyTouch4g the week after it was released for 300. Then I sell the older phones on eBay.
I prefer eBay or something like that. Contracts try to hold you down.lol
I shop for mine online. Best deals hands down.

Prefer prepaid full retail, or second hand.
I won my current phone though Huawei IDEOS for free
Almost always off contract, but I try to buy used or refurbished.
I will buy it on Contract. I can get any phone of my choice at cheaper price and it doesnt matter that after contract gets end I will have to gave my phone back.
Most of the time I pay the upgraded price of the phone. Ie. Whatever it cost with a 2 year extension.

Amazon seems to be sellling this phone unlocked for $519.00. My friend is in the US at the moment and i was planning on having them next day ship it to him (Miami). Is this a good deal for a new unlocked Inspire from a reputable place or could you all suggest some other places?
Thanks for all the help everyone! Looking forward to becoming a part of this forum.
I would recommend buying the phone locked for cheaper, and unlock it using the tools available in the dev section.
Well considering I can't get it on contract, do you know where I might be able to find it at an off contract price that is less that what I listed above? Thanks for you help!
479 at amazon without contract.
cant you walk into any ATT store and pay full price for it at 399 dollars? thought it was 400 dollars full price at ATT stores...

+ tax as well.

AT&T raised the price to $450 a few weeks back, in fact every smartphone went up $50. Plus tax as well... Better off ordering through Amazon.
Actually would have had to order it pretty early this morning to make sure it got to my friends hotel in time before him leaving. So I might just have him walk into an AT&T as you have suggested... Doesn't seem like it will be too much of a difference. Thanks again everyone! Have all been greatly helpful.
Has anyone heard if and when they will be carrying this phone?
THANKS.

Good question and it appears the answer is yes.
My only issue with Best Buy. Is that I'm a NON-contract customer with T-Mobile USA. And Best Buy always wants to charge an arm + both legs for anyone who wants to buy off contract. They specialize in selling with contract, they don't like us non-contract folks.
I'd love it if they'd price match a non-contract price, even the T-Mobile store's $549. Just because Best Buy has some nice protection and buyback type plans. (Not saying I'd nessisairly use their plans, but nice to have options if you want them.) But for me, they're not an option if they do the Sensation like all their other non-contract phones, that they sell for way over regular retail price. I'm sure their non-contract price for the Sensation will be about $650 . They're already selling the EVO 4G out of contract for $599, while you can get that at Amazon off contract for just $469.99, regular retail price for that one is $499.99
Available on the 15th, according to Best Buy Mobile employees
Found out from a friend, that Best Buy WILL price match T-Mobile's price. Plesant news for me . Now I just need this thing unlocked and rooted so I can buy one .
just walk into a walmart and buy it today...i got mind yesterday
Thanks for that info. As for me I buy at Best Buy because well i have credit there and don't want to open up credit anywhere else.
18 month no interest is not a bad deal for me since i always pay off my purchases within a few months so it works for me.
I really hope they match and have this phone on the June 15.
theirs*
playing basketball and it flew out into cement.
i need one for tmobile or unlocked.
sell me yours thru paypal, please dont scam me
sad day. $200+-
I hope you can get one for $200, but realistically expect to pay atleast $300.

Depebding in where you live. In my area you cant find one even for 400$ on craiglist
Most folks on contract don't pay that little for a $600 phone. Good luck dude.

Wow, I sold my sensation on ebay "buy it now" for $240 to offset the cost of the One S. I don't think it's going to happen, but I think you might see some prices drop from where they are now currently as soon as T mobile releases the galaxy s3. Good Luck!
I'll consider selling mine if your interested,
Ive not long on my contract so if i can get my ETF down to cheap, you can have it for the price i need to pay it
So, I want the One lol. I signed a contract with AT&T last year for my XL, does this mean I would get a early termination fee if I bought a One and stuck my sim in it?

Buy one unlocked

Why would you want the one when HTC will release another phone in 5-8 months?Let's be smart here, 2 year contract right? 10 dollars is subtracted a month from Etf so 1 year is 120$ so around 200$ for etf and probably another 200 for the phone.400$ total plus tax.

Why would I need an unlocked one? It wouldn't work if I got one on craigslist or eBay that wasn't unlocked, for AT&T?
you would only pay an early term fee if you bought it from at&t. if you buy it anywhere else you won't.
if you buy one from craigslist or ebay you'll be fine.

Awh yeah. That's what I'm talking about. Now to find a cheap One...
I think paying etf and the phone price would be cheaper, you would be looking at maybe 440$( if the price above remains true, usually good smartphones start from 199$ and mabye more for the expanded memory on the phone)(32,64,etc)depending on the release price of the HTC one.And usually eBay is sketchy. You should look on amazon, alot more safe.no contract prices online are usually hiked up and you would be looking to pay 500$+
As someone who worked for AT&T wireless, mainly tech support, for three years, here is how the breakdown works. First, the contract does NOT mean you cannot use another phone. The whole point of a contract is to allow you to buy a phone a very low price. For example, the HTC One X+ is aorund $400-500 retail. But when you sign a two-year contract, you agree to stay with AT&T for two years, and in return you get a phone at a discounted price. That is ALL the contract is for. If you dropped the $400-500, then you will not sign a contract. The ETF start at $325, and decreases $10 every month. Yes, even in the 23rd month, you will still have to pay $60 to get out of contract.
Now to answer your other question, if you put your sim card into a new phone, it will not do anything wrong to your account. Just like if you put it into an iPhone, it does nothing, but allow you to use certain network features. Can't remember if the One has LTE, but if it does, then data should still work. If not, call AT&T and get re-provisioned for the regular smartphone data plan. Just wanted to clear it up for anyone who wanted to know.

Don't forget activation fees. When all is said and done (ETF, activation fee, subsidized price) it might just make more sense for the OP to just stay on contract, and buy from AT&T at the full retail (unsubsidized price), which they will do. Or like you said, Amazon is a good place to check to, as they often have some very competitive pricing.
