very nice idea , if there were something like this but to mke a music player that would be great ....i dont use the browser on my phone much
what other apps would you like to customize? music player and??
Won't it be possible for people to make their own browser and sell it? They could just edit out anything that mentions Maxthon...

I think it would be best to customize the music player and gallery app
This is good, but it also means the Market is going to get flooded with themed Maxthon browsers.

This is neat. I just nicked an icon off Google, as well as a wallpaper, which I added text to in MS Paint. I call my browser "Reality Web".
Does anybody have any opinions on the Maxthon browser itself?
//edit: I actually like the browser. It's faster than Opera Mobile. That isn't saying much, Opera is not a fast browser. It just does a lot and doesn't have many faults.
Some pictures won't load. This could contribute to the speed. I opened a 4chan board, which is a good test because the captcha usually screws up most mobile browsers. They just hang until it loads, then the whole page displays at once. It's a good benchmark. Surprisingly, my customized Maxthon just loaded it all up, and quick, including all the images. I was impressed. Next I went to How-To Geek. Some image thumbnails from articles did not load.
The browser has a lot of options. If you were on the fence about themes, you can actually download the others, so you can switch that. You can also change the home page. The customized browser is 2.21MB, though that may depend on the splash screen. I just used a JPEG; a PNG might make it bigger. But back to the options, you have your user agent changer, a privacy mode, the usual stuff, and even gestures (which I hate, but some like, and I still regard it as an advanced feature).
Couple gripes: 1, closing the last tab doesn't open Home, it opens this quick access tab, like Opera's speed dial, or Chrome's. There are a couple entries that don't need to be there, but that's also true for Opera. 2, hitting Home opens it in a new tab, not the current one.
All in all I like it, and I may set it as my default, primarily so when other apps (e.g. Facebook or baconreader, the Reddit app I use) call the browser, they call a fast one. At the very least, this is a decent browser worth your consideration. That you can customize it is just icing on the cake.

I wouldn't worry about that. I don't think it's free to put something on the Market. Besides, free software being resold or with ads tacked on tends to get blasted pretty hard in the comments. And if Maxthon cares that people are selling these, they have recourse, I'm sure. I don't think your concern is without warrant, but it doesn't really concern me.

Yes it costs $25 for A Developer Account with Google but you might just get one Developer who might upload 20 of his themed Maxthon browsers.
It'd be quite funny.

Wow, my first post to this amazing forum!
BYB . . . Before I download this could I just qualify its limitation(s)? I'm looking for something that is (not to put it too mildly) um . . . ambitious.
I'm on a nice, meaty Lenovo Ideapad K1 ten-incher (no jokes now!! lol) and I'm specifically looking for a means by which to hard code into the menu bar itself buttons for the following four vertical navigation operations:
PGDN
PGUP
HOME
END
I don't even know if this can be done what the hell, I can ask, eh? Why do I want these buttons? For seamless, non-intrusive HTML ARTICLE READING without the crude finger swiping that is a huge interruption to my reading (any) HTML page by virtue of the fact that I'm endlessly positioning, trying to land precisely one screen lower to make the maximum use of my 10" screen.
What I'm describing is a feature best implemented for tablets, I'll be the first to admit -- a true, dedicated "HTML READER'S BROWSER" with no keyboard interaction required to obtain precise vertical PAGE SCROLLING.
Can your App be outfitted with something this ambitious do you think? or should I just continue to wait until some kind soul -- a reader, like myself -- discovers that he's wasting untold hours sweeping his New York Times pages just to position his scrollbar?
And thank you in any event for a wonderful concept!

We just released our first app, a speed dial widget, Sign. We would love to get everyone's feedback and comments. Here's a brief description.
Sign is a unique, gesture based speed dialer for Android which lets you call or text your friends by simply drawing a gesture (signing) directly from your home screen.
Unlike other speed dial options such as direct dial icons or quick dial widgets, you don’t have to worry about accidentally calling somebody just because you inadvertently bump your phone’s screen. Sign is still extremely fast, easy to use, and best of all, you decide how to activate a text or phone call. Simply assign a gesture to any contact. To make a call or text, all you have to do is activate the widget and Sign right from your home screen. Simple and secure, it’s easy to use without even looking at your phone to find contacts or phone numbers.
We developed an enhanced recognition engine to provide a more accurate, consistent, and reliable system to recognize the gestures you assign to your contacts. Sign lets you assign single OR multi-stroke “Signs” to the people you call or text most often.
The free version, Sign Lite, has a limit of 3 Signs
and the full version, Sign ($1.99) has unlimited Signs
I can't post the QR Codes due to new user restrictions, but search Sign in the market.
Give it a try and let us know how you like it. If you have any issues with it at all, please send us an e-mail, we'll respond quickly to fix any problems. Also, we have quite a few ideas for future updates, but suggestions are always welcome.
Based on previous suggestions, we are working to allow user control over whether the default action is call or text.
Ok, I am now approved to submit images and links.

I've put the screenshots in the following post.
Thanks for checking it out.
Ok, finally figured out how to get approval to post images/links.
I took the following screenshots using a free app called ShootMe (Johan Cloetens), which worked great. These do a better job of indicating how you Sign from the homescreen than the ones in the market.
I apologize in advance for the size of the first two, I have resized them about 10 different times but I can't get them to shrink.

A single stroke Sign on the homescreen (half cut off)
A multi-stroke Sign on the homescreen
Multiple gestures within one Sign (although this would defeat the purpose of a "speed" dial, it is possible to have up to 8 strokes in any Sign)
Call confirmation
The settings screen
Contact Assignment Screen
A quick note - We've had mostly positive reviews so far and only one significant bug identified - Sign currently only syncs with Google contacts, so if you use EAS/3rd party contact lists, these currently do not show up in the list of contacts you can assign a gesture to. This is a known issue that the programmer is working to implement a fix. If you have this issue and want us to keep you updated, send us an e-mail at [email protected] and we will let you know as soon as that problem has been resolved.
Also, if you have any suggestions or comments, please let us know. We are currently working on an update to implement a few suggestions we've already received. The primary change will be to allow the user to set either call OR text as the default action. Hopefully that will reduce how often you have to select one or the other.
Thanks to everyone who has tried it out.

Great app
Nice idea which is implemented well
a dream - gesture for hardware back button
hy
is it possible to use it for the hardware back button ?
it will be great, because i can say go back with simple gesture and my hardware button will not use. This is a great usebillity.
i know it is only for the contacts but for the future ......

Thanks for the comment and I'm glad to hear you like the usability. Sign is currently for contacts only; however, we have discussed implementing some additional gesture controls for other actions on the phone and we are investigating how to do that effectively.
One issue with implementing additional functionality into Sign is that as a speed dial application, it is important for it to remain lightweight, responsive, and fast, otherwise people will choose other speed dial options. My initial thought is that if we do include the type of functionality you mention, it would be within its own separate application and not within the Sign speed dial application.
We do have other ideas for gesture-related applications that are currently in the design stages. You can check our webpage for regular updates on what we are working on. However, our primary focus now is to make sure everyone who has Sign is satisfied.
Thanks again for the suggestion!
Sounds great, I'll try it out in a bit. Before I do, I'd like to sugggest using the standard Android theme (or a Sense UI ROM/device if you really must) for screenshots. The one you're using on your device looks awful and it messes with the standard Android UI elements too.
I like it so far.
My only request would be to add a "Text Message" button to the call/cancel dialog, rather than using the buttons at the bottom.
It's more natural for me to launch Sign and make the gesture for my fiancee immediately, but I keep forgetting to select "Text Message" first.

Salt, the programmer is already in the process of adding a feature which will allow the user to select the default action when they open Sign. Right now, the default is set to call; however, you will be able to set the default to text which should resolve the issue.
Thanks for giving it a try, and we appreciate the comments!

Thanks. I got a Droid back in December and it was my first smartphone. I had an older blackberry, but I didn't really use it for anything other than calls and the occasional email.
However, I'm pretty addicted to messing around with my phone and playing around with various apps and I had some ideas for apps I thought would be cool to have. That, and the fact that I kept accidentally "direct dialing" my pregnant wife at 2 in the morning is where I came up with the idea for Sign.
Hopefully you enjoy Android as much as I have, because I literally started Simply Applied to develop apps solely because of the Droid and the Android OS.
Since then, my wife has gotten an iPhone and I am amazed at how boring it is for me personally. It feels limited and closed compared to Android. I literally played with it for 15 minutes and I've barely picked it back up since then. The iPhone is definitely an incredible device, but not for people who like to play, tinker, and customize their phone.
Android allows that flexibility and customization, which is why when I design the apps, I'm looking at ways to use it to create really a different user experience. I'm sure the iphone has gesture-based dialers, but there's no way to have a speed dial widget which lets you draw the Sign directly on the homescreen. It just can't be done on the iPhone.
We have some other unique ideas that we are currently working on that even stretch Android's current capabilities, but luckily I have a creative programmer who is extremely patient with my ideas and does his best to implement them. I really think he did a great job with Sign and has made an app that works very effectively and is entirely unique and different from other speed dial applications.
And I'll stop boring everybody at this point...I can get carried away.
When you try it, definitely let us know what you think and feel free to offer suggestions.

Thanks! Battery drain is essentially 0. Although it is a widget, its inactive unless activated by the user. If the user doesn't initiate an action within 15 seconds, it closes. Also, it closes immediately upon launch of the sms text application or the phone dialer.
We're extremely conscious of how poorly designed apps can impact the phone and we take active steps to ensure our apps are well designed to avoid those issues. This is what our programmer wrote for our blog a couple months ago.
Depending on what they’re doing, widgets can be resource hogs. A home widget is essentially a small and limited user interface to either an existing app or background service. They’re primarily used to display data, not for input, which can be a challenge for apps like our notes widget which is in development. Since widgets are typically displaying data from a background source, they have to be updated at regular intervals…for example with a stock ticker app, it would be every second, using lots of resources. With our notes app, it only updates when a note is added/modified so it is relatively lightweight. Our upcoming gesture dialer/text widget Sign is also very lightweight because it is essentially dormant until activated by the user.

Thanks, we tried to optimize the feeling that you were interacting with the phone/device and not simply opening a separate program/app to do something the phone couldn't do. We really wanted it to be interactive in the homescreen, so from that perspective, I think its pretty unique.
There are three people in the company, although we currently have only one programmer. We all have other full-time jobs, so Sign took approximately 3-4 months from start to release. In actuality, the app could have been completed in about a couple weeks, but we decided to develop a custom gesture recognition system. After testing out Gesture Search and the gesture API, we realized that it wasn't reliable enough to be used as a dialer. So we designed a custom recognition system which incorporates elements of the gesture API, but improves on the consistency and accuracy to reduce the chance of misdials.
Two of us are primarily involved in the app ideas, design, and development while the third person is responsible for a variety of other tasks important to our overall longterm marketing/pr strategy, among other things. However we all have ideas for apps which we will eventually develop. Although we aren't doing this full-time (yet), we're treating it like its full-time because we truly believe that there is some incredible potential in the Android platform and we want to be a part of that.
Sign is our first app and the first app for the programmer as well. We actually started with another app first, but with Google's Gesture Search being released, we felt this app took priority. Needless to say it has been a learning process for all of us, but hopefully we can take some of the lessons learned from this project and be more efficient on future projects.
We have a lot of exciting ideas for future projects, and several other projects underway. Our website is currently under construction, but you can visit http://www.simplyapplied.com to see updates on Sign as well as our other projects.
Thanks for your interest in Simply Applied. We definitely want to establish ourselves as a well known and respected developer that has very high quality apps. We also want to be known for being extremely responsive to issues our customers are having with any of our products. For our company to be successful, we can't go through the same process we are going through with Sign, which is a grass roots effort to generate interest in our app, for every one of our apps. We need to develop trust from a large base of users that knows that they when they download an app from Simply Applied, they are getting a well thought out app which is well programmed and works as advertised. They also need to know that if there is an issue with the app, we'll fix it. Then our future apps will sell themselves and we can focus on developing and programming and making better apps. Not that I don't enjoy talking about this topic, obviously.
Simply Applied applies to our apps...but not so much my posts - brevity isn't a strong suit.
By the way, an issue was discovered overnight. For anyone whose premium version of Sign has stopped working overnight or today, please download the update in the market. The issue has been identified and corrected. Thank you very much to those people who informed us of the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Looks pretty good. I'm gonna try it

Shelves is an Android application that manages your collection of apparel, books, gadgets, movies, music, software, tools, toys, and video games from your Android device.
With Shelves, you can add items by scanning their barcodes, through Web searches, entering details manually, or by importing from or exporting to other sources (with full support for Delicious Library). Shelves organizes your collection with sorts, searches, and tags. You can loan items to friends in your contact list, or rate items for your personal use. Additionally, items can be in any language!
It's available for versions of Android 1.5 or higher. The website for the app is here: http://www.shelvesforandroid.com

Just downloaded it to test or out cause I want to keep track of my games and who I lend them to
EDIT insane how useful this is I did a test bulk scan in of about 10 games scanning them in one after another then backed out and it got all the info for them cover art ... Publishers ... Release year ... And in some cases some background info
Sent from my Motorola Droid XPT
Looks great. Can't wait to get into it!
Fantastic app and insanely useful. Now to figure out how to get it to import into Delicious Library 2 properly.
I import but it doesn't import all the data, only some of it. I think it pulls using ASIN data whereas Shelves only provides EAN data. Certainly not a deal breaker, but definitely a hassle.
QR for those that want it
Downloading now, not sure I understand the concept though. Free though, so can't hurt to try it out.
Edit: Doesn't look like an app I'd use, but looks well done when I played with it.

Hmm, you're the second person to say that it doesn't work properly with Delicious Library 2 (the other one was a Market comment). I intentionally extended this to work with DL2. As far as I can tell, DL2 doesn't accept ASIN imports, only EAN/ISBN. If I'm wrong about this let me know. Getting the ASIN as the export isn't impossible...
EDIT: Oh damn...if I make the column heading "amazon link," it populates everything. Let me fix that for the items and I'll push out an upgrade super soon.

I just pushed 2.4.2 right now. It's changed the headers on the Delicious Library exports to "amazon link." Thanks very much for pointing this out. Your ratings can also be imported from Shelves to DL.

Could you give me the barcode number of one or two of those games? I'm honestly surprised that they're not being added, since I reckon they're either from the States, Japan, or another country with PAL support. I am guessing you've tried changing your locale in the Settings menu, too?
But, without a few of the numbers/names, I can't test what's going on.

Okidoki. Let's see here:
Ghostbusters (ps3, PAL = 11719 11885)
Little Big Planet (ps3, PAL = 11719 72515)
And yes, I've changed the locale from US to UK, seeing UK is PAL. If you need more, just yell. And thanks. ;-)
This app is great for keeping track of my stuff. I especially love the google calendar sync for loaning! Honestly, I can't think of anything to add to this app to make it better.

I'm able to somewhat duplicate the problem.
When I tried adding LittleBigPlanet the first time (which I could only find had an EAN of 0711719998853), it also said I already had the item. When I tried immediately after, for a second time, it added successfully. This was with the UK locale as well.
Logcat doesn't provide any help here unfortunately. I'm guessing the request is timing out, then. A few releases back I made adds time out after 90 seconds, after a user complained he waited 10 minute (!) for something to get added. My suggestion to you is to try to add the items on a WiFi connection. Personally I use that myself at home, since I've never been very pleased with Edge results. 3G is pretty good, too.
Let me know if that does anything for you. As a caveat I am also using this site to replicate barcodes: barcodesinc.com/generator/barcode/

Hmm. I've scanned about 10 games I have and none of them are recognised. I always have WiFi on at home. I have to say, product search in the barcode scanner app itself doesn't give any products either. Web search however gave me results.
I've tried several tools like yours before, and none of them were able to use the scanner and inventory my games. I think it has something to do with the Dutch barcodes or something...
About your account: I'm sorry, but i'm unable to "approve" any accounts. The approval is done after a certain amount of postings, as a precaution. These are forumsettings and I'm unable to change them. You'll get more "rights" eventually.

But that would mean that they repackage Dutch products with their own Dutch barcodes--is that the case? Seems like an expensive operation if you ask me...
Not that this helps any but I found an online article about blocked apps (for the HTC Legend) where ZXing is one of them: http://androidheadlines.com/2010/03/dutch-htc-legend-blocking-apps-in-android-market.html (yay I can post URLs!)
i think we got some other barcodes indeed. some of the game Packages are saying Not for Supply in the UK. when i try a game from uk (with no PEGI logo) but the uk rating logo it works perfectly!
got around 160 ps3 games here! Dutch Packages mostly got Dutch text on the back!
That's really wild. I'm scouring Google trying to figure out what benefits repackaging/rebarcoding a product would offer. Protection against privacy? Some EU policy workaround?

awesome. i'll donate if i use it which im sure i will. much more convenient than surfing through clicker.com on lunch break =D keep it up, hope u get more than 10 cents quickly =D thanks
Works pretty well, videos not fitting the entire screen, episode selection is a good start. I appreciate your work making this happen and I'll stick around. Donations coming your way when my PayPal or gcheckout get up and running.

Its not centered full screen, I will try to fix that in the next update!
Donations are VERY appreciated because I must pay the server fee soon (and it's not free!)
Thanks for the app. If I were you, I would go the ad route, then just ask people to click on the banner to help you out. Keep the donate button there in case people want to give more, but clicking on a banner is easier.
You might not want to answer this, but are you hosting the videos or are you linking to them via your own server and sending the users to where the streams are?
Works great.

Yeah but the thing is that I don't want ads in the app!
The answer on your question is in the first post.
"The TV-shows and movies are collected from youtube and other sites, so this app is fully legit!"
And by other sites there is not any from the Karlzzonz community.

Great app! Works well on my hero with just 3g too!
OG Droid: Bugless 0.6.1
Running great! Streams are smooth no lag or anything I can tell using 3g. Like someone else said picture is left aligned. Also if I slide open the keyboard it freaks it out some but if I slide it back in it resumes right where it was! Only thing this needs to be great is option to zoom but other than that amazing app! Can't wait for full version to come out.
Great App!

Yeah, still is not centered full screen, but I will fix that in a update. I also have a slider (or pop-out, I have a Desire Z) so I know the problem.
I don't want to discourage you but unless you are streaming from the original source, the videos you are linking to are extremely likely to be in violation of copyright statute in the U.S. at least. Even if you are streaming from the original source many of the videos being offered are questionable.
Taking Avatar, Iron Man, and Iron Man 2 as examples; there is no "free" source for streaming of these movies legally in the U.S. that I am aware of. Nor is there likely to be one at this stage given their age and success in the Box Office.
I believe your motives are good and have faith that you most likely believe that the copying and redistribution are legal. With that said, you might want to prepare yourself with a better defense than the fact they are available at youtube and "other sites."
Again let me stress that I am not trying to spoil the party so to speak. But be prepared to offer a better explanation once someone "in power" notices this fine application.
Nice app man! It works beautifully on both wifi and 3G..it just takes about 10 seconds longer to load the video on 3G. I can't wait until this app is out of beta. Planning to donate....Happy New Year!

I see. I better remove the web. But if I stream from another server it's legal? Thats why many streaming sites are still alive And if, we say FOX had a .mp4 that was "safe for streaming" for every episode that would be awesome!

I am not suggesting removing the web. I am not even suggesting removing the application. What I am suggesting is that your defense and assertion that the streams are legal is not backed by any evidence and most evidence points to the contrary.
Fox does indeed stream many shows directly from their website (including the Simpsons). I don't know the TOS for these streams nor do I care. You however might be better off checking though.
Heck point out the streaming site for Avatar and Iron Man. If it is a legal site I would be interested to see what else they have.
EDIT: Hot linking to illegal material is a grey area but most rights holders fall on the side of a violation of their IP. Do what you like; Saying that it is legal though is questionable at best.
I love this app!!
Thank you for making this.. Can you add a section for a custom path? Like for your own network? Like smb or ftp or something?? support for icefilms.info would be crunk
Damn only 2 pages? this app needs and deserves more love. it's great.. unfortunately it doesnt completely take advantage of my screen ( about a half inch of unused space left) but oh well, its still pretty good.

Fox is blocked outside the U.S. (can't watch anything, that sucks) maybe thats why there is a lot o streaming sites out there? And i don't think there is a .mp4 file that is suitable for android behind this.
I don't think that the site that has the movies i Legal, and I want to protect it so I wont link it here.
And I'm not so into this with laws. But what is the Internet for right?

Yeah it does need some more! "Vote for Home Page?"
And if you check out our FAQ on DroidStreamer.com you will find that we know the problem.
Hello everyone,
Well I guess I need some dev help on this one. Let me explain…
I’ve been looking for the perfect photo widget for ages (ie more than 2 years!)… and have never found something that would fit my needs… until very recently, I found this one Photo Widget in the google play store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.mdzwonek.photowidgethd
This Photo Widget is potentially the best and coolest photo widget on the Android planet.
It has the following great features:
1) Resizable
2) One-tap launch of the photo gallery of your choice
3) One-finger swipe through your photos directly from the widget itself
4) A very cool look: Photos are shown as a stack, and a stack that look a bit different every time you swipe with your finger through the stack… which give a very natural feel for a stack (not a basic fixed stack of rectangle like the Samsung photo stack widget)
5) A slide-show in the planning
Now, the bad news are:
1) This widget is extremely buggy: almost unusable UI, random FCs in settings, sometimes very slow while swiping up to the point that some photos won’t even load (I suspect very large file won’t ever load at all)…
2) The free version (which comes with one set of low-res frame) is ugly, so ugly that if you add the fact that is has so many bugs in it, nobody would want to keep it on its phone or would like to pay for the “paid” version which only offers additional frames…
But I’m very stubborn and since I felt this widget had huge potential… I insisted on using it. I found a way to load pictures (despite the buggy UI), found a way to use a different frame (without using the paid version, nor modifying the apk) by theming the widget through the Miui Theme app.
So here how it look on my phone in different sizes, cool isn’t it?

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
As you swipe through the frames, you’ll notice they show under a different angle. Cool, isn't it?
And here with the “ugly” original (low res) frame that comes with the free version, ugly isn’t it?
Now, I’d be willing to donate to the dev of this great widget, but only if I’m certain that this widget is still being developed. Unfortunately, I believe it’s not…
It’s not been updated since April, ie more than 6 months despite tons of bugs in the UI
I’ve been sending emails to the dev reporting bugs, congratulating him, encouraging him to pursue development,… I never got any answer (and this despite the fact that on its google play store page, he encourages users to report to him).
So here are my questions here for devs on XDA
1) Given the development of this great widget seems stuck dead in the middle of nowhere, would it be possible for someone else to takeover its development without the permission of the original dev? I don’t know if it’s even possible (by breaking the APK), but would this be considered stealing? I’m against stealing apps myself (I pay for the apps that I like), but given this one is obviously no more being developed and currently so buggy that it is almost unusable…
2) Alternatively, and probably best, would a dev here be willing to start over from scratch the development of a similar widget with the very same cool features as I described in the beginning of my post?
For those willing to try it, here how to load pictures in the widget without having a blank/empty picture…
1) When you 1st load the widged, it will look like this where the dark blue rectangle represent an empty frame that you have to load or delete…
To delete the empty frame, you have to put your phone in landscape mode to see part of the Action buttons…. Scroll a bit down, and delete the empty frame.
2) Now you want to load an entire folder with pictures in it. Put your phone back in Portrait mode and hit the folder button. Then hit the back button and navigate through your folder and select the one with your pics. Hit the Confirm button several times.
Your screen should now look like this.
By going back in landscape mode, you should again be able to delete unwanted photos. Hit Start when you are ready. Be careful not to choose too large picture files, or they won’t load and you'll get stuck with this:
3) If during any of the previous steps, the widgets FCs then try again, maybe with a different picture folder…
I sincerely hope a dev will be willing to embark in this great project.
And of course, if the original dev of this widget comes across this post, please do not hesitate to join in the discussion and start over developping this widget again... I so much wish this development to continue so that this promising widget works properly.
Of course, I volunteer for testing any new devlopment...
Cheers

Wow - someone in the exact same boat as me!
Agreed about that widget - so much promise and yet wasn't continued.
From my reading about these kind of widgets this is using something called "stackview" which is well documented in the Android SDK. Theres a few cool quirks with this widget - like the different angles and the frames around the pictures. However I think this is a pretty standard widget. I'm looking to try out some development so might have a bash at this - especially as there is a stackview sample provided by android so no reverse engineering of the code needed.
What I will say is that I actually like the stock gallery widget but just wish it had auto-advancement like this app has.
Anyway I'm going to finish the SDK install and start the long road to building my first widget! Will keep you posted.

OK so I had a good look at this. I'm not really a developer, plus extending this code would be a very dodgy area. However upon taking a proper look at this it appears the code is very outdated. Plus the stackview widget code in Android seems to be being phased out to some extent - i.e. its not a really straightforward task for this dev to simply clean up the code on this. I noticed on the dev's Play Store page he requests people build some frames for the app and also states in the app that using your own frames is allowed. To this end adding or changing frames is easy - just unzip the app and replace the frames with your own in the res folders. You'll probably need to be rooted for this.
As far as the menus go they would be easily cleaned up but the performance is an issue and, from my limited knowledge, only fixable with a code rewrite to new version of android.
So, without input from the developer, we're not really in a position to do much more. What this really highlights is how few good photo widget apps are out there in the market - and most notable the fact there are so few widget using the stackview api call - its a shame because its powerful and can make homescreens look dynamic and graphically cool.
I may mess around with some bits of code I found from some blogs but not being a developer I really don't think I'll get far. If the developer does get in touch and gives us the go ahead to pick up development on this app then we might get somewhere.

Thanks,
With regards to the performance issue, I think it could be solved maybe by first caching the images into smaller thumbnails (because clearly the widget doesn't require high resolution pictures taken from multi million pixels camera!). This would probably solve the slugginess issue when swiping through pictures...
Unfortunately, I've tried to contract the original dev many times via email without success
The other solution would be to start over from scratch, and that was the purpose of my first post, but I've not been successful either in attracting a dev in this project, which I find quite surprising, because this widget is really very cool looking, and there are very few good photo widgets out there

I tried that one but couldn't find how to create a stacked photo album widget.
any ideas ?
does it really have that feature ?
I don't understand why we don't see any app (even paid) which does the job.
just a simple widget to show pictures as a stack...
anyone with development skills can do it. and there are people who are willing to pay
Thanks for your hard work collecting all the information and a TUT to run this widget
I'm also looking for a good photo widget. So far the Photo Frame&Grid Widget is my choice. You should give it a try
Really hope some thing good like the HTC photo widget will pop up on Store some day
PS: the link to the widget you said is no more
Finance41 is a great personal finance app that keeps track of your spending, income and savings. Refreshingly simple, quick and easy to use.
You can use it offline, it will sync online automatically when possible.
The "Add Transaction" widget makes inserting transactions fast and easy.
Note: this is not a stand alone app, it is backed up by Finance41.com. All financial information is synchronized online, and can be accessed from your computer's browser, providing the bigger picture.
Money is kind of important, it should be monitored.
Finance41 helps you:
- keep track of your money,
- manage your expenses, income and transfers from one account to another
- see your accounts balances
- set budgets
The app is designed to be extremely simple, easier to use than an Excel spreadsheet, but also very powerful.

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback! Let's get through it:
@GuilhermeXOT
Dark theme seems to be a popular request, so we'll add one soon.
On deleting or editing accounts: this is the first iteration of the Android app, and it's purpose was to implement some base operations that users do every day, like adding transactions or checking the accounts balances. For the less frequent operations you can use Finance41.com from your desktop browser. You'll have there full control. And we'll surely add these features in the next releases of the Android app also.

@suku_patel_22
We've spoken on email, thanks again for the feedback.
Expense categories are created using tags. You can budget tags (from the web app for now).
The account balances widget is a great idea and we'll implement it soon.
Thanks again guys for the kind words and feedback and hope to hear more about your experience with the app.
The web-app doesn't work on IE.
Having 2 date pickers makes the UI look cluttered. Let the user choose which type of date picker he wants in settings. Also add year to the spinner.
The dark theme should be selectable on setting as well.
Add charts as a tab not as a menu item.

In account balance the credit is rounded, while the -ve numbers are not rounded. Ex if I have a balance of 532.89 it shows 533. But if I have a balance of -532.78, it shows -532.78. The amount should not be rounded in all cases.
This is applicable for the android app only. The web app shows proper value.
Also please have a all accounts total on the android app, similar to Web app.
Why don't we use the android keyboard for entering numbers?

Hi,
Yes you're right, we shouldn't round the balances. And we will add the total balance.
We've got your emails and we're going through them.
Thanks for the Play Store review!

Really liked the dark theme! Thanks!
May I suggest a simple 4 or 6 numbers password feature.
I know that we already have the account login but it's not optional and if I want to secure my data I need to log in and out everytime I launch the app. With a 4 digit pw I could easily turn the feature on if I need more security.
EDIT:
Here's a mockup of what I have in mind:
I don't know if it's possible but on my bank's ATM you have to enter the password in a similar keyboard, this way even if someone is watching you type your pw the person won't be able to tell what it is. Also it's better than the tiny numbers on Android's qwerty keyboard (I guess that if you set a "field" as password it won't let you use the numeric keyboard to fill it, right?)
Also the numbers in each button are displayed in crescent order (my mistake on 3 - 0) so it's easier to find them and they change each time you launch the app.
Please keep this in mind: I know that it's really hard to develop apps and I don't have a clue if what I'm asking is even possible. All I'm doing is trying to help!

Password
Hi,
Thank for the feedback!
That's a really interesting pin system, we've never heard of it. It sounds effective.
When we sat down and thought the app through, a pin protection feature was put on the table. But as we talked about it, we realized that the phone is something personal, much more than a desktop or a laptop. People don't share phones. There is of course the case of someone taking your phone and invading your privacy, but then a pin or pattern lock should be installed for the whole phone. If you have nosy friends, you want to protect your messages, your contacts, pretty much everything, not just Finance41. So we decided not to implement a pin lock for the app.
Of course, if the request is getting popular, we'll have to do it, users know best. But until then, we'll spend our efforts on other user-requested features.
Thanks again for the feedback and the beautiful mockup, and hope to hear more from you.
Cheers!

I guess you have a pretty good point there about the phone being a personal thing but that's why I think that this function should be something that people can turn on and off.
Just to clarify my point: the thing that concerns me is that even tough it's my phone and I'm the one who uses it the most sometimes friends and family asks to play with it and that's when I get a little concerned. I know that I should not handle my phone to people I don't trust but sometimes someone you don't know that well asks to play a game or check something online and it's kinda hard to say no to something that "silly", in this case this extra level of security can come in handy.
Anyway, you should wait for more users to give feedback about this matter
Thanks for the quick response and keep up the good work!
Actually that would be a good idea to have.

Yep I think for personal reasons (dollars and cents are involved), it ensures security when other people handles our phones, I for one vote for having security measures like "pin, pattern etc".
Oh and btw I've another suggestion, I replied to your email a while ago but just thought of this idea. I know we can actually set fixed monthly bills like "insurance, car payments etc" on certain dates, but is it possible to allow us to confirm the date that the payment has been deducted? Like a prompt to confirm on the date it has been deducted on, I know we can just change the date but it's a small request haha, cause sometimes the deduction/income might fall on weekends so the date might not be accurate.
Hope to see more features implemented for this great app, have been using it for a few weeks now and really love it!!
Confirm transactions
Hi,
The pin security well get done, but let's talk about confirming transactions.
When you add a transaction, especially on recurrent transactions like rent or electricity bill, you want Finance41 to remind you to pay that bill. So you mark that transaction as "Must be confirmed when done" (in the web app).
On Finance41.com, when the day you've set for that transaction comes, the transaction becomes red and stays on top.
Now, for the Android app, we're released an update today for this: overdue transactions are marked in red and you can confirm them. Also you're reminded to pay them.
So give it a try, it should be very useful, it's something we wanted really bad, it makes our life much easier.
Cheers!
