I had original 2.1 android on my xperia x8, and before few days i installed kuyadroid 2.3.5. In that android deafult launcher is launcher pro so I want to know what is gonna be if I erase it.
Yes you can if you have root. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A LAUNCHER FIRST! Download root browser than go to
/system/app
than delete launcher.apk.
Is there even a point to deleting it. If your not using it then it should be doing nothing more than taking up its space as a file, right?
I wouldn't

I agree. It's not hurting anything, and you might get yourself into trouble if you delete it without another launcher installed. Just my 2 cents.
thanks for answering.. like i sad before, in this kuyadroid 2.3.5. launcher pro is deafult launcher and i have option to delete it.. but i need to have another launcher installed to delete this one? right?

Hello I was wondering if there is a way to replace the launcher completely on a rom i choose to flash. I use launcher pro exclusively and I want to make it part of the system and not have it run as an app, is this possible? Thanks.

just set as default homescreen ?
Well I don't want it in the task manager on my phone, i want it running like part of the system, if I rename it and replace it with the stock htc launcher will that work? or is it more complicated then that
Is it possible to make adw launcher a default launcher, and when i mean default i mean the stock launcher is gone thanks for help
HTC Wildfire S (VM) "s-off" "rooted" Stock Rom
Since you're rooted you can get rid of it by just deleting the app from /system/app, using something like Root Explorer, but why bother? As long as AWD is set to default then the other launcher won't even run after a reboot (unless it's TouchWiz - I've been informed that that does run, so you need to delete all the widgets from the screens first.)
Generally, whenever I change launcher I tend to remove everything possible from the previous one I was using, just in case it ever does run for some reason.
ok cause the reason i ask is because if i were to do a factory restore it would delete adw because its an app, so that means when i start up it will say foreclose and ill have to find an apk and drop it into the phone and install. is it possible to make it cm7, ware its not an app, its a default launcher?
You're basically talking about making your own ROM. That's the only way to pick and choose what's included in it.
I downloaded adw ex and pushed it into system/app and installed, i clicked home and selected adw ex as default launcher, i turned off my phone and flashed a zip i found here on xda that deletes sense rosie apk and launcher, rebooted and now my phone is running off adw ex, i did a factory reset to see if it still works and it did. by moving the app into the system/app it cant be deleted unless i go inside and delete it. thanks for all your help guys
Cool. I will try on my tablet.

So you just moved the apk to system/app and installed it from there?
Yes, I as running HTC.launcher so I completely deleted that and now my adw is my stock launcher, the reason I moved it to system is because if you install it like a regular app what happens if you do a factory reset or it accedintaly gets deleted, in system app its now apart of your rom, and to prove that go to settings then applications, you will see that regualr apps can be deleted but system apps cant, all it offers is to delete updates, you would need titanium backup to delete system apks , so that's why I moved it to system/app, (push Adw to system/app and install)
NookColor Cyanogenmod 7.1 "Overclocked"
Ok, here i have tried to port the stock gingerbread launcher, tell me if it works or not, and if you think its good, hit the thanx button.
thanx for viewing
When I try to install, it says that the app doesn't was installed, so I went to Root Explorer, and I put it in /system/app and change the permissions to rw-r--r-- and the problem was solved ^.^
Thanks a lot

My LG Optimus one, running offical cyanogenmod 7, and rooted. Using es file explorer, as it worked for my galaxy gio.
Edit: JUST wiped dalvik cache, do i need to do something else? ie delete ADW launcher and replace with launcher2?

No definitely do not delete the real launcher. Dalvik shouldn't be causing the issue as its just cache. Sometimes this happens, the app just doesn't work. Um...try a different app, although es file usually works on all my devices. Or...you could tty flashing it although I have no idea how to make a flash able zip.
nice one for backup
I just flashed a firmware that came stock with Holo Launcher HD launcher, and I have used this ROM before and successfully killed it and replaced with Trebuchet or TouchWiz. Well, now I killed it in Titanium Backup, and it still shows up when I press home, completely intact. However, It is no longer in the Titanium or Settings menu Apps list, and when I try to install a different launcher it does not ask me which I would like to set as default when I press home. I would just clear the defaults but like I said it doesn't show up in any Apps list on the system or Titanium. So now I am stuck on junk Holo Launcher HD launcher with seemingly no possible alternatives. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean by "killed it"?

Re-flash and try again.
Install file manager with root access (I use root explorer)
Reboot
Navigate to /system/app
Delete launcher apk
Reboot

The APK is missing. And I only have about 40 APKs so I wouldnt miss it if it was there. Looks like Im going to have to reflash.
The title covers it. Are there any custom ROMs out there with those two things baked in?
I tried Robbie's UberAK ROM, I like it a lot but it integrates Nova Launcher instead of Solo and there doesn't seem to be a way to uninstall Nova. I tried taking his ROM and modifying the system.new.dat, removing Nova Launcher and putting in Solo Launcher but during flash it just throws an assert error about the trustzone.

Can you not just use a root browser and remove nova from the system folder? They are both easily installed apps either from the play store or from a titanium backup, it would make more sense to me to find the perfect Rom and then just add those things as they are a personal preference.
But how can I be sure all traces of the old launcher is actually removed this way? I don't know what other changes might have been made during the process of installing Nova. It would be better if the ROM didn't start out with that launcher at all so this isn't a concern.
Nova is just a general apk app. If your rooted remove it with titanium backup. But make sure you have installed another launcher before removal of nova

AFAIK all android apps are removed completely by removing the apk file. If you'd like to be sure, run a search for a unique part of the apk filename over the whole filesystem using a filesystem Explorer and remove everything you might find. It's rather likely to find something on your SD.
