Touchscreen issues, sense related? - HTC Sensation

Fellow Sensation users,
I've got some problems with the touchscreen that is possibly related to sense?
I've posted this in the coindroid thread already, but nobody will reply to it, so I thought i'll make a thread.
Copy/past from my post in the CoinDroid thread:
Ok, yesterday I installed CoinDroid again. But i have the same problems:
-Sometimes screen wont turn on, then i have to pull the battery.
-Sometimes i cant unlock the screen with the ring, touch doesnt work anywhere on the screen.
I haven't installed many roms, but i've tested with other roms and the only stable ones for me is VI and HyperNonSense. I dont get the screen problems i've mentioned above with VI/HNS. So it's definitly not the screen that causes the problem! My idea: because both VI and HNS dont have sense on them, i think it's related to sense. Maybe some people bought a phone from a wrong batch?
Any ideas from other people? If I cant find a fix or something, I have to find a new phone...
Some details about my phone:
Sensation XE
HBOOT: 1.27.1100
radio: 11.22.3504.07_m
Some details about roms i've used:
Stock - problems
CoinDroid - problems
VI - no problems
HNS - no problems
Will update some more later, busy at work

I would suggest you install a stock ROM, And see if the problem is software or the hardware.
You can use this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849.

Ok,
just to make this safe
you mean RUU_Saga_HTC_Europe_1.47.401.4_Radio_20.28I.30.085 AU_3805.06.02.03_M_release_199410_signed.

yes that is the RUU to flash.
but before you do that u need to be sure you have bootloader ENG HBOOT-0.98.2000

then you run the RUU.exe file on your pc and follow the on screen instructions.
this will return you completely to stock
Hi meinfreund,
What are the problems you are having with your navigation? I've been on VoidU and now MIUI and got my navigation running pretty well. Actually MIUI seems to be incredible with it's assisted GPS implemented settings.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
I also had gps problems on certain 2.3.5 roms. Couldn't get the gps icon to even appear in the notification bar. No error messages when turning gps on though. Sound like your problems?
No need to go back to stock. Try Coredroid or CM7. I can confirm both work with gps. Also perhaps try LeeDrOid. Very close to stock look and feel but with some nice tweaks. Gps also working there too.

the icon appears and i got gps far outside the city, but when i grabbed it the signal was lost. Had to put it in front of the car to get the signal, very sensitive. I resetted gps data many times but that didn't change anything.
Before i started flashing ROMs, it worked pretty fine, in the cities too.
Actually I think that all the ROMs that I tried are not faster or better than the Stock I had before. So i'm a bit confused about what doing next?!
LeedrOid and Coredroid are from August. Aren't they a bit outdated?
Does an update of the Base and Kernel might has positive effects to the gps?
Because ther is an update for Desire S Official Sense 3.0 - [GRJ90] [2.3.5] OTA 2.10.401.4

I tried MIUI too, same problem here

For the signal reception ou have to try another radio.img
If you want navigation working why dont you use another stable ROMs like Virtuous Unity, VoidU1.1a etc. etc..
Reverting back to stock is something unusual after rooting. There are lot of candidates , Just pick one and hit the base..Keep Hitting

Read that Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 will be released soon, can anyone say how long it usually takes to get a release of a new version such as ICS 4?
Would like to test that as well
Hey,
I now flashed the Cyanogenmod 7.1 and have big trouble with that.
GPS does not work as well as with the other ROMS (GPS fix can't even "fix")
But there are some more difficulties.. i cant call or get called by someone, the Homebutton does not work (after flash, it worked.. but after shutdown it doesn't anymore)
Apart from these problems, this ROM is very fast and nice looking!
Does one of you have an idea how long it takes until a shipped ROM of ICS is available when its released?
Hi I have also cm7.1 since stable release and not having your problems. Just csipsimple has some isues. Did you do wipe cache and data? Did you restore via titanium? I restored BT pairings and had to begin since clean system, cause BT didn't work correctly. I would give a try to flash radio.

[Q] Complete noob question about flashing custom from stock ics

Hey all,
I'm complete noob about flashing. When I had GB - that was quite simple, but now I'm on last official ICS stock from HTC, and I'm totally angry for this. This rom it's just crap. I want to flash to a custom rom, and I don't know how on ICS, there is any solution? Noob proof? I want to change to some stable, smooth, and maybe non-sense rom? Can some1 help me? Will be very nice, if this rom will have wifi/bt switches in quick settings, and auto sys-updates (ota)

I'll be able to back to stock if needed? (To send it to service for ex.). It's really needed to change cid? IS there any custom rom with OTA?
Yes you need to change cid, yes you can change back if needed. Try out a few roms, see what you like they all are really great. It's just a matter of personal preference. I'm not understanding what you mean by Rom with ota. Over the air Rom? Or do you
Mean a Rom like the ota update? If so, yes there is. Hope this helps
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
Rom that have system updates over the air, and notifications about update like stock rom, u know, i'm entering preferences > about > check updates.
I can't try few roms... This is my only one phone at now, and I really need it to work, that's why I want to change to some better rom than stock, and that's why I can't try few of them. You know - I don't have time to beeing angry to my current ROM, and also no time to try few of them
No with roms you won't get the ota updates , sorry
There are a lot of good stable roms, what exactly are you looking for?

I'm using beats by grogg Rom, I like it a lot, WiFi hotspot are working great. What is it you don't like about your current Rom and maybe we can recommend one you will like I'm sure there's a Rom here you will be happy with!

Hm, I don't really know... I like Sense, but maybe clear ICS have better features? If yes - I don't want Sense. I really liked quick settings when on GB rom, now I don't have wifi/bt switches, but I want to. I don't know what's more... I've never had any senseless ROM. But most important - I want ALL functions to be working. Sense 4... ahm, I fall in love with Sense 4
Help me to choose, pls. Battery is important too, and smooth. But I think smooth is very good on most future ROMS

You can get s-off with the juopunutbear method. Which now does not need the htc dev-off, so htc does not know you are tinkering with your phone.
Returning your phone completely to stock can be done, but from what i've read it can be tricky as you must become S-ON again. (however, there is a unbrickable team here).
There is a way to flash with S-ON but it requires HTC DEV unlock, and for you to manually flash the boot.img, and keep the stock kernel. A noob myself i went for the whole S-OFF, lets bring it on experience.
From what I read on a local forum in my country, Ordroid gives you the sense 4 experience. And the developer regularly updates his / her rom.
Then again there is sense 4 from Baadnewz (insertcoin) and many more. A popular sense 3.6 rom is ARHD.
You can flash different kernels to increase your battery life.
As for the vanilla ICS, you can either go for CM9 (respect to Vorbeth) or the AOKP. The latter is based on the cm9 nightlies (i believe). I run such a rom. I love the vanilla looks and the added tweaks.
However, I believe recent nighlies have worse battery life. And there is an audio routing issue. For full reliability you might consisder those sense.
what's vanilla and aokp?
Please help?

Wifi not working with sense 4

Hi all
It's two days i've been trying to install a sense 4 rom but i found that wifi is not working in every one i tried...
I turn it on and it sees the router, but when i try to connect it fails...
I tried several roms, all the ones with sense 4 i tried have this problem.. When i flash a 3.6sense rom wifi has no problem and it works perfectly...
I tried changing kernel (bricked, sebastien and faux) but nothing.. full wipe... reset kernels... ecc... nothing worked
I also flashed senseless roms and one was ok while the other gave me the same problem of sense4 rom with the wifi...
Do you have any advices?
Maybe it's something really banal i mistake but i really don't know what to do more..!
Really really Thank you
p.s. i have 3.33 firmware mounted
p.p.s. sorry for my english
try wifix
Thanks but it doesn't work....

Look in System/lib/modules of a ROM that has working WiFi and take note of the files in that folder then look in the same place in the Sense 4.0 ROMs and see if all the files are there also. Now the modules also are tied to the kernel so they have to be the right modules for the kernel. For this you need to know what kernel the ROM uses and what modules the kernel uses.

But is it possible that famous roms like elegancia, vipers, smartdaemon ecc have this lacks? I mean, every one else who downloaded them have not the problems i have
For what i think, it's not depending on the kernel because i tried different ones with sense4 roms and anything changed... The same with sense3.6 with wornikg wifi, i tried changing the kernel to experiments and wifi still was working with every one i flashed on
Do you think that coming back to ics stock and then update again could be a solution?

I understand what you are saying and you are right if the modules are not right then more people besides you would be having the issue. I had thought about that before I posted my last post bit I posted it anyway just to cover all the bases. Flashing back to stock might help I can not really say, but when in doubt return to stock and start over again. Last thing, have you read through the threads on the Sense 4.0 ROMs to see if it is a fixed mentioned in one of them anywhere? I know reading through a long thread is a pain but 95% of the time you will find a answer.

If you go to the market and download alogcat. A logcat will tell you exactly what is going wrong but takes a bit to get used to if not used to reading one. Try that and if all else fails can post it here too and can see what is going on (as a text file. Don't paste as a response )

system glitches on 4.2.2 rom

Maybe I missed the post in the Dev thread... but I still have system glitches when I use Albinoman's 4.2.2 rom. By gliches I mean flashing system menus and or the things are not visible unless the screen is touched. I am performing a full format before i install the rom. I don't have a cat log for you
Did you try other ROMs to see whether or not the glitches persisted? If the glitches are still there then I would suspect it's a hardware issue (digitizer maybe?) But if the problem goes away, I don't really know what's going on. I would try another 4.2 jellybean ROM for the test. If it still persists, I would try an ruu to ultimately decide if some part of your hardware has malfunctions...

Me too, Some ROm I've tried as SuperXE ROM 4.2.2, 4.2.2 ROM Albinoman, Swagger ROM, give me these flashing menus...
But, on PACMAN ROM, on Wizard ROM, on AVATAR ROM i have not.
Try another ROm You'll see if that's Hardware or Datas problems.
Me i don't know... Changing Kernel make no change:crying::crying: So i don't know where is the problem

The only other ROM I use is Bruce's 4.1.2. It is great, no errors or problems at all! I should be happy with it....but I am update junky.
The problem began when when the Dev made a kernel change a few months back. He immediately released a updated kernel. but it didn't work for me and all the updates I've tried has the issue persisting
If the kernel's the problem, I would recommend sultan's kernel to try it out.

Looking for a 3.0 kernel based ROM

I've been having issues with all sound dropping out on various ROMs and I don't recall this happening on any pre-3.4 kernel based ROMs.
All the download links in the threads for 4.2.2 ROMs are now dead so I was wondering if anyone has an old file kicking around? Or know where I could find one? My hard drive died a while back and it seems everything since then has been 3.4 based so I no longer have any 3.0 ROMs on my computer that I can try myself.
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Haha, yeah, I know. But when your phone has no sound whatsoever, it ceases to be useful. Can't remember that happenign to me on 3.0 so I figured I'd check it out.
Also, not too sure what the big deal is with 3.4. When it first came out, there was the wake lag, then that was fixed but bootloops became an issue. The 3.0 ROMs were more reliable for me in general, just not as up to date.
EDIT: Your first post ever was to tell me that? Haha

THANK YOU
Ok so it sort of works.
No sound issues so far but I keep getting random soft reboots and apps constantly closing (no error or pop up), Cleared caches in recovery. Anything special I'm supposed to do after flashing this? I'm so close to having a working phone again, this ROM seems likes my best bet...but now it's giving me other issues.
Thank you for your time.
Try changing skin on the phone and then change it back also for soft reboots what works for me is uninstallin kernel Turner and reinstalling and applying settings again

If this works you'll be my bestest friend, haha. I didn't think this was going to happen. Thanks so much.
Are V and VI 3.0 based?

Yeah, according to his thread all the Twisted kernel's were based on 3.0.

Links for the kernel's below:

Twisted VI: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_VcoEHi3OfvYW1XcE1ueklMUGM/edit?usp=sharing
I can't really remember but I don't think there was any special instructions to install Liquid Smooth. Check the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2194095&highlight=liquid+smooth
You might want to try this ROM as well: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_VcoEHi3OfvSnh3djJTTjMtdHM/edit?usp=sharing
No thread for it because it had to be taken down, but ran as well as Liquid did. Not sure if Gapps are included.
rmbq still has some v3.0 kernel's for download here: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=3224
Try bubba Vn5 if you're still having problems.

I love this community. Not going to have the chance to mess with this until tomorrow probably, but I will post and let you know how it all goes. Really appreciate the help.
EDIT: I read through that thread yesterday and it doesn't seem like there's anything special I need to do, so hopefully some of these other suggestions work. Once I flash it again I'll try changing the governor (if I can make it that far without rebooting, haha). If that doesn't work, you've given me lots to work with. Thanks.
I have a blackbean build with the 3.0 kernel.

OK, been busy all weekend so here's my findings:
I was able to get Liquid Smooth working using the Bubba Vn5 kernel. That was the first step.
Then I had to give it time and see if my audio dropped - and it did. So the 3.4 kernel doesn't seem to be the issue.
So I ran a logcat and while not completely versed in what to look for, I did find some audio errors relating to the audiopolicy manager, and tone generator and soundpool. Did a bit of searching and seems it could have to do with my firmware, which, of course, was also switched when I changed to the 3.4 kernel. I'm going to try reflashing 2.15 and maybe upgrade to 2.16 if that doesn't work. If neither work, I'll have to see about downgrading, but since I don't have a lower flashable zip, I'll have to mess around with an RUU so hopefully it doesn't come to that.
Thanks to everyone. At the very least, you're helping me eliminate possible causes.

If I can get my sound back I'll probably be sticking with a 3.0 based rom as at the very least I'm not constantly plagued by bootloops so I'll gladly take your copy of blackbean if you don't mind. Just another option for me to flash
p.s: my logcat should be attached. If anyone has experience with reading them, it would be greatly appreciated if you could take a look and see if anything stands out. Thanks again to everybody.
Ok, so I managed to extract the ruu using a script and flashed the rom.zip via fastboot. I am now on hboot 1.13, running LS v2.4 with bubba vn5 (3.0 kernel) and am still without sound. Logcat shows the same errors as the one I posted above (not sure exactly what they mean, but they are audio related from what I can tell.
Since I have ruled out everything I can think of on the software side, could this possible be a hardware issue?

Just here dude and looking at logcat to me look like you got no drivers or no sound hardware, not like that's any use to you.

Thanks, based on my searches, it seemed like every older ROM had dead links.
No drivers or sound hardware, huh? So something isn't right, haha. I've had sound at points so I assume there must be something up with how the software interacts with the hardware or my hardware isn't stable and works only from time to time.
Not what I wanted to hear but what can ya do? I've posted this in the Q and A forum as well, see if I can get some more info. Thanks though.

Ya I'm in no rush to delete it. I would go with an hardware issue but have you tried a Sense rom?

Got it downloaded
I've tried the newer, 4.2.2 Sense ROMs and while not entirely sure (I wasn't really looking for the sound issue at the time) I recall it happening on them, too.
But I'm going to try the old ViperOneS 4.1.2 ROM because I know that I had no issues at all back when I was using that. If it's still present, I'm going to assume it's a hardware fault and I'll have to try and unroot, s-on, go back to stock, achange my CID and all that crap and see if I can't get it replaced.
Thanks for your help.

If you still have issue then ya send it back but remember to use an RUU before S-On.

Yeah, I'm too anal to not read things 50 times before attempting it so I'll check out some guides and everything before I try to go back to stock.
Thanks again.
