I have achieved S-off, now I can't put the clockwork on like it said in the development forum. any help?
Where exactly do i put this file?
I connected my phone and put disk drive, i moved the folder into the only drive that opens up with my phone. I tried just the recovery exe, same thing. help
Put the CWM file "PG58IMG.ZIP" on the top level of the SDcard. Then go into the HTC recovery (Poweroff/battery out & power on with volume down) and it should install itself.
EDIT: After the phone reboots make sure you rename/delete the file.

It works exactly like explained in step 2.
STEP 2. To INSTALL Recovery - v5.0.0.8
1. Download recovery v5.0.0.8 for the Sensation HERE: or Multiupload
2. Copy the PG58IMG file into the Root folder of your SD card (The main Folder of your Memory Card)
3. Turn off your phone FUlly and reboot into the Bootloader/HBOOT screen (see post above on how to get to hboot screen)
4. Press Volume up to Accept when it asks" Do you want to start the update"
5. Press Power Off to Reboot back to android after installation is successful (normal screen with homescreen)
6. Delete PG58IMG from your memory card and you can now root using step 3 below or install a custom ROM using CWM (Customs Roms are already rooted)
Thanx to xi VipeR ix
This way worked for me on different Sensations and an Incredible S.
Never could get those instructions to work. Ended up just using ROM Manager from the market.
Thanks Guys!
One more question, my connection says H instead of 4G now, what does that mean?
Noob alert, yes.
H is for HSDPA.
Can't help as to the why. There is a section in the FAQ about slow data connection that might be relevant.

Hi,
What ROM are you using?
You need to put this sort of information in your posts or signature.

Once I installed something, can't remember what, and I needed to re-install CWM. So I just leave a renamed version "cwm-4.0.1.4-PG58IMG.zip" in my case, just in case..........
Hey Guys,
I am new to the forum, and pretty new to rooting. I am trying to root my T-Mobile HTC Sensation based off the instructions from the xda HTC Sensation forums.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
I am able to get S-off, which seems to work through reboots, but when I try to move ClockWork recovery to the phones root file, go into HBoot, I get a quick errors on the PG58DIAG file. I've scoured the forums for solutions, renamed files, etc. and I keep hitting the same wall.
Listed below are screen shots, the names of the files, and the PG58DIAG file I keep trying to move over.
I have no clue what i am doing wrong, and instead of wasting more time, I figured I would ask you guys. I would like to get the right recovery in there, so I can move to perm-rooting. I would eventually like to remove bloatware, overclock the cpu, and install an ICS Rom, as I am sick of waiting for the ICS update.
Thanks,
Kevin
Ok, so no one knows? Can someone at least point me in the direction of finding a solution. I can't yet post in the Sensation Forums, so PLEASE HELP!

I just bought a second hands xoom , I really had bad luck because my device reboots itself automaticaly too often
it's about a MZ601 3G 32g. of course I can't find the seller back in my life ...
OS 3.2
build number H.6.5-17-3
Kernel 2.6.36.3
I don't know my xoom belongs to which country . I would like to root it
Becasue I've heard it might be helpfull .
I 'm really an newbie !
Can someone help me out ?
Best Regards
Kevin
The MZ601 is the MOTO/EU/umts_everest 3G: 3.2/H.6.5-17-1 GSM (means you can use any SIM card in your device, you can send and receive SMS)
You first need to install Android SDK, Here is a link to the ADB Tutorial.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/adb-easy-tutorial/
Instructions assuming that you have successfully installed the Android SDk -
(solarnz)
1. Downloading the rooting-update zip file.
Download the zip file from here - http://goo.gl/Om9aP
Now place this on your external sdcard. - Sorry this is a requirement at the moment, like I said this is a bit rushed.
2. Flashing recovery
1. Download this Recovery image. http://bit.ly/iLRAIV (place this image in you SDK PlatformTools Folder, or which ever folder that contains your adb.exe)
2. If your device is locked, now is a good time to unlock it.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot reboot
3. Flash recovery
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img
Once you have verification on your device that this has been flashed, reboot your device by holding volume up + power.
Then 3 seconds after you see the Motorola logo, hit volume down. You should now see "Android Recovery" in the top left corner. Hit volume up to boot into recovery.
4. Flashing the Xoom-Universal-Root.zip file.
If you're in clockwork mod recovery you can continue (This recovery image will say it is clockwork mod) . If you're not looking at clockwork mod, then you need to repeat step 3 again.
In cwm, go into "install zip from sdcard" -> "Choose zip from sdcard", then select the Xoom-Universal-Root.zip file you downloaded.
Note: use the volume buttons to navigate and the power button to select
Reboot your device and then welcome to your rooted device!

Thx so much I've root my device now .
I've one extra icon calls superuser ??? What can i do with it ?
What is now difference between a normal and an root device ?
What do I have more possiblilitie with rooted device ?
best regards
Kevin
Is this method workable in 4.0.3 or even freshly released 4.0.4?
@Kevin
superuser gives you access to your device settings and all files.
Install root explorer, and you can browse your system files, but be very careful.
With root you can customize you xoom.
To find out more on what root access can do for you, use google to search,
this would not be the place for that. After you get a better understanding of the
root process, browse this forum for Modifications and what not.
Now you gotta find a ROM that fits your taste. You can start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459641
Make sure you Flash the GAPPS directly after you flash your new ROM, then reboot. There are many ROMS to choose from in this forum. Find the one that fits your device and your needs. Welcome to the Dark Side my Friend!

Yes you can root your device on stock 4.0.3 using this method. From there find a 4.0.4 ROM to your taste and flash it in CWM recovery. (If you are using a XOOM) I prefer the EOS 4.0.4 ROM which is their Nighty Builds. You can find the Xoom EOS Nightly ROMs that fits you device by searching the Forum.

10. Enter "RECOVERY"
11. Choose "install zip from sdcard"
12. Select "choose zip from sdcard"
13. Choose "Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip"
14. Choose "Yes - Install Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip"
15. Turn on your phone. Install and test some root-required apps such as Titanium Backup/Root Explorer/ClockSync,etc
16. Then you are done. Enjoy
Good guide. You should add information about the difference between htcdev unlock and s-off. Just to let people know what they're doing and what could be done different.
Sent by my fingers to your head.
Agreed, for some, htcdev unlock means more unnecessary steps, over and over again.
Hello,
I hope unlock the Desire S bootloader.
At the HTCDEV site, HTC DESIRE S is not listed.
Can I select the normal HTC DESIRE or the HTC Desire HD ?

Thanks a lot for eyahl's and ammenRA's opinion.
My intention is keep this rooting guide as simple as possible.
And I think there is already a glossary out there, so I did not (and won't) post it here.
I hope you understand.

You don't have ClockworkMod Recovery in your SD card.
You should have flash(install) ClockworkMod Recovery directly into your phone through Command Prompt, which comes with a PC with Windows.
Make sure you are following the steps, especially Part I carefully.
yes i have clockwork recovery because when i start recovy it shows me normal clockwork program in which i can choose from sd card but that program which i should choose from sd card is missing i dont understand it ..
@poster
u forgot to mention that if they want to flash a ROM they need to also flash the boot.img of that ROM via fastboot.

How to remove Super user and get back to factory reset
I don't find the Factory reset option under privacy and the BootLoader Factory reset is not allowing to do as well. How do I remove Super User and get back to Factory Reset
Thanks for the useful guide...
I've managed to unlock the phone as instructed.
However, when following Part II of the guide, when I enter Recovery Mode I dont have the option to 'Install Zip from SD Card'.
Instead I get an image of a Phone with a red explanation mark. I have made sure that Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip is on the root of the sd card.
Any Ideas?
Thanks a lot

OK, I managed to figure this out, I had to press power and volume-up to get to the menu in which i'm then taken to the Andriod System Recovery <3e> menu.
There is no option called 'Install Zip from SD Card' however...
You didn't flash the custom recovery, or didn't do it correctly.
You're in stock recovery.
Please look at the guide, look at what you've done and see where you went wrong.
Thanks for that Jack_R1... How sure how I missed that.
Everything seems ok now. Thanks a lot!

Use the volume up/down buttons to move the highlight up and down, and the power button to select the highlighted option.
1. Select "apply update from external storage"
2. Select the file you placed on your storage card (starts with "p6210_CWMR".)
3. Sit back and watch it run. Read the information that is being sent to the screen. If there's an error, it'll display some message. If it works, it'll display a message starting with the word "Done!"
4. Select "reboot system now."
You now have a CWM-based recovery installed, and your tablet is rooted.

What is the Recovery Android?
The recovery is no more than a text mode that is loaded during the startup phase in place of the operating system itself. A recovery allows to perform certain operations at a low level otherwise not possible during normal operation of the system.
The recovery is in all Android devices, although the basic version. To activate it you must use a well defined sequence of commands.
In the case of Samsung Galaxy series you can access the recovery mode by holding down both by phone off the VOLUME UP +POWER BUTTON....... What is the Recovery Android?
With the recovery you can perform certain operations.
The most important is to restore the factory settings, especially useful when you are not able to access the phone features due to various system errors or corruption of important files.
Other operations in the recovery of basic cleaning &of the cache (though already included within the factory reset) and the installation of "files signed" by Samsung.......... What are the custom recovery ?
A recovery base is very limited, because of that have been created by independent developers of recovery can change the commands to extend the basic versions come with Android.
The most common functions offered by the modified recovery are different.
The main one is undoubtedly the ability to install files "unsigned" (eg zip install from sdcard), then that can be created by anyone.
This is precisely the case of the cooked roms that are prepared in the form of packets. Zip.
Another function is that of widespread nandroid backup, that is a complete image of all partitions on the phone. ...there are no problem for bricked to device, your rom is great, with this procedure I have had no problems..........
