Hi !
At first sorry if it was already ask but i didnt find by search function.
I have just downgraded the Nexus S of my wife to Gingerbread because she doesn't like ICS... lol
I got no problem for downgrade, but now she gets a notify to Install the ICS. It comes back kinda often.
Is there a solution to dont get it again ?
Thanks
You need a custom ROM with FOTAkill baked in(most roms have it)

One last question. Can you give me the name of one or two Custom Rom on Gingerbread ? I find only ICS ones lol
CyanogenMod 7 and Oxygen (or Carbon) are generally very popular, and both great ROMs.
If you are rooted you can probably stop the updating notification but i'm not sure exactly what files you'd be modifying/deleting. I'd be inclined to say something in /system/app, or maybe there is a build.prop edit?
I have read somewhere we can do something with a file called fotakill.apk but i dont really understand what to do with.
I'm looking too for freeze the updates.apk with titanium.
Hi !
I m looking for which file i have to freeze in system/app but i dont know which one.
I though i could find one like "System Update" or "Updater" but not.
Somebody know which APK is it ?

Hi, today my g1 with my legend rom download this update.... any dev want to use it??
legend update
MD5: 2EC28B412FF142380B8148301EE2B046
or where I can find an "how to" to use it??
for not dev DO NOT FLASH!!! IT'S ONLY FOR HTC LEGEND!!
do i just flash this over your other legend rom?
no..it's not an update for my rom....but is an OTA update...
It's probably just the Market Update. The Legend Market was missing some apps. If it's an OTA, I would Flash it over in Recovery with No-Wipe.
patch updates
These patch updates can be a pain in the arse.. so far the only way I've found to use them is to modify the updater-script to bypass the security checks, and make sure its not "updating" or changing something I don't want it to, resign, and apply the update. Than once its done pull the nand image off the phone, unpack it, convert it to an update.zip so the rest of the world can enjoy.. maybe there's a better way but that's the best I can offer.
does this help in any way?
i mean... there are .p files in it. probably patching the original ones... anybody knows how to apply it?

Dude.. one post up. I just told you.
I did this back when cupcake got its crc patch ota update I just didn't share it with the world.. enomther did.
The OTA is actually for upgrades to the system which is going to allow for better performance with the use of certain apps. Some apps will also be upgraded as well.
I received the OTA today, and that what was suggested in the message I received.
However the download failed to install to my SDcard. Instead my phone automatically went into recovery, and just rebooted from there.
I'm still receiving the option to update via OTA. I just check off "Install Later".
If this is only for the Legend how come it's in a thread for the G1 Delsa. I got confused for a minute...lol...

This is good because we don't have to extract an RUU anymore, unfortunately the apps are odexed.
Nevermind, this is useless. It's just a whole bunch of patch (.p) files... pointless. move on people, or get to work extracting the RUU (find in legend forums)

Hey , I'm new here so ill say hi too. Anyways , a week ago I got a Desire S for my birthday and before i had an ipod touch. I know that jailbreaking an ios device is easy and if you mess up you simply restore. What about an android device? What are the risks of rootibg and can you restore itback to its original state for warranty purposes? Are the roms there any roms available for daily use? ( 3.2.5, sense 3.5 , ice cream sandwich? ) Thanks in advance
Oh and, if ill decide to root what should I do / save to uunroot?
Android's are usually quite easy to restore. Just download the RUU thingy, available on this forum.
this thread is really good
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146601
just give a good read through all the threads in the guide section.
I've found that it's not easy to brick an android device or mess something up. All you need is a backup of your rom (which you'll understand after reading the guides) and you should be safe.
Well all I need to do is save my ROM? How do I do that?
Also what are kernels and radios and hboots? completely newbie to this..

Well I couldn't really find anything about kernels and radios, and to backup my ROM I need a rooted device? What if its too late? How can I know if I have a faulty chip?I don't want to wreck my device...
Well there's not much you can do if your chip is faulty, but you can do things to stop your phone breaking.
Never pull the battery out is a key one. If you have to, try pressing volume up + down and the power button at the same time. There are also other things you should do. Ben Pyett is great with helping about the eMMC problem
The radio and hboot is something you shouldn't worry about. I've never bothered messing around with them and you really don't need to.
Kernels are flashed in the same way as ROMs. Through clockworkmod recovery or 4ext recovery. Whichever you want. All you have to do is choose the right one for the ROM you're flashing ie a sense kernel for a sense rom. In the desire s section you'll find 3 sense kernels and 1 aosp kernel. AOSP are ROMs like cyanogenmod which don't have any GUIs like sense. With two of the kernels ( Hyperion and Endymion) you must choose the right version of sense. Hyperion is for sense 3.0 and Endymion is for sense 3.5 and the unity kernel can be used for any version of sense.
Making a backup is easy. All you have to do is go into recovery and select the backup and restore option and choose backup. You must do this before flashing a custom ROM because if the install fails you'll have something to fall back on.
I've tried my best but if you still have more questions then ask.

Always make a nandroid backup, it just means if anything goes wrong you should be able to restore your phone to it's exact previous state.

Yep, the free version of titanium only allows one by one backup, but if you get the full version it can do multiple backups in one go
4ext recovery control is a paid app too, but I cannot stress how worth it it is!

Er can anyone send me Swype.apk and libSwypeCore.so? Wanna install swype..
Also , my dad really liked the 3.5 update so I tried doing the same on his Desire and well when its reaches "zerging root" it says that it failed with a sad smiley..
Could it be because he has a update available but won't install it? ( As its impossible for him because at the end of the New firmware download it says damaged file or something.. )

Hi
I if you use sense 3.5, swype is already built in. Go to the keyboard settings and turn htc trace on.
Swype away!
However if you want full swype, its a beta, I recommend just signing up on their website to get the apk, its free
Not to sure about your dads desire, best bet is to ask the desire forum
Hope it helps...

Sadly I can't find swype under keyboard and language.. using same Rom as you I think ( mine is 3.0 I think.. not sure.)
I'll ask in the desire forum about my dads desire , thanks.

there's the swype installer, that's what you need to install swype, but i think you still have to sign up. Might be wrong though.
Im sure this has been asked before but I havn't found an exact answer. Is there a ROM for HTC Desire Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 with camera working usb mass storage working etc etc you get the picture. Im not exactly a noob at all this stuff but i can't seem to find a ROM for it. and yes my HTC Desire IS rooted. also just out of curiosity where is that folder that all paid apps are stored in? well how to access it more to the point?
Uh how do you check if its rooted cuz an app says it isnt but i did it yesterday with revolution Oo
Well in HBOOT it says S-OFF and at the top Revolutionary highlighted in pink so I guess that means it IS rooted?
bump bump bump
well in terminal emulator putting "su" i get permission denied how do i log in with super user?
Hi!
I'm currently using what probably is the only one ICS image for Desire out there - in its repacked incarnation - found in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403113
Camera does not work, I had a random reboot while calling my brother, and while the mount2sd script seems to work well enough (my SD card is appropriately partitioned with a 500MB sd-ext) I just cannot manage to install Aldiko.
Otherwise ICS looks quite cool Its browser finally seems ok.
To access all of your stuff I strongly suggest to install Android SDK on a PC and connect to the phone via adb. It may take a while to learn how to do it but it's definitely worth it.
If I'm not mistaken, paid apps are with all other apps under /data/app, at least mine are.
meh thx but not interested in ones with functions disabled. unless u can tell me why ics is better then ginger or how to renabled camera n stuff ill pass

lol don't be so demanding, ics is barely out.
time will come and there will be fully working ics roms.
for now be happy that there even is a public ics rom for your device, for those who want to test it.
there is an app on the market called "root checker", guess what is does ;-).

Amen to that.
Also, there's no such thing as rooting without then installing 'superuser'. Look for it in the market.

Hello,
Can somebody please guide me through the steps needed to install stock ICS phone apk on my htc one x (ATT)
I have the apk but i am unable to install. I purchased root explorer, renamed the phone apk and the phone.odex file tried to install but it says unable to install.
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you so much in advance.

Main reason why im so interested
i can tell you its not as easy as overwriting the phone.apk with the stock ics phone.apk. and you would also need the stock ics contacts.apk i think.
Any chance to get all? Stock ICS on HOX is very good idea.
I dont really know much about where this stands or if it's currently possible, but if you head over to the development threads, you'll probably find a lot of folks working on it, or at least mimicking it through custom ROMs. Good luck.
Maybe you should post your questions in the Q&A section

I'm guessing you have a custom recovery and are rooted? would it not be easier to flash a new rom from the threads on here??? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2575766 the deox one for example) i know its 4.3 but its the latest android version for your mini.
i could be wrong but just a thought.
Maybe you could match it with your software version from the roms available in stock roms section, and pull the file from the zip? Check which "rom version" your using from settings>about>software information.
I'm guessing you are running stock?
