Silverlight is a proprietary format owned by Microsoft. There was an opensource project called "Moonlight" that was supposed to be able to provide the same experience on non-Windows platforms. However this has apparently been abandoned.
I can't post a link, but if you look at Infoq.com's site on the page news/2012/05/Miguel-Moonlight, he states categorically that Moonlight has been abandoned.

Hi!
In the UK we have a website called iPlayer where you can access all of BBC's content from the previous week.
This website is available to two mobile phones, the Apple iPhone and the Nokia N96.
The way this is made available to the iPhone, is that the iPlayer website detects that it is been browsed from an iPhone, and therefore it gains access to streams that are encoded in 400Kbps H.264 video, 116Kbps AAC audio format, which the G1 should also be able to handle perfectly. However, when I try to browse to the iPlayer website I am prompted to download Flash, which the regular desktop version uses.
Now, I believe that there is three solutions to this:
1. Wait for BBC to enable G1 users to access the iPlayer the same way as the iPhone out of the box. - Ideal, but likely to take some time.
2. Mask the G1's browser to look like the iPhone's Safari browser - Best solution at the moment.
3. Wait for flash to arrive - Not ideal, you will get a format on the video that is encoded for PC users, and will probably even be unplayable on the G1 due to the high resolution on the video.
As most people would agree, we should try to mask the G1 browser as the iPhone Safari browser, I am not so much into the world of web browsers, so I do not now how to do this. I understand that we need to change the signature of the browser, but I don't have a slightest clue on how to do so.
Therefore I ask the know-it-all's here on the xda-dev forums!
link to the BBC iPlayer teams blog about iPlayer on iPhone:

Thanks a lot!

edit:
It seems that if you use the third-party browser 'Steel' you can choose what to mask it as, however, there seems to be no video streaming capabilities in Android?
The webpage loads as if it was on the iPhone, but when you try to select a episode, nothing happens...
i believe the steel browser in the apps can do this. correct me if im wrong.

You are correct, Steel allows you to pretend the browser is the iPhones, G1's, or Desktop.
Hello,
Well, we had a new project going for quite some time now. It is called MolyMobile. It is a website where you can find the following:
6500 radio and television streams (from around 60 countries)
Temporary note function. Save a note with a unique code on your computer and open it on your phone by using the same unique code.
Translate text on your mobile phone
A huge database with seducing tips and pickup lines for woman and man.
Adult content: A huge database with galleries which load images optimalized for your screen resolution so not much data has to be downloaded. Also videos and streaming adult channels.
The streams get checked regular and work on Windows Media Player (not all of them work with Windows Mobile Media Player, you can try other players).
However, we need beta testers who are willing to test the website on their computer and on their mobile phone. Also we need feedback, comments and feature requests. We can add almost everything you want.
So if you use the site, please comment in this thread.
Site: http://www.molymobile.com/
Open for everyone now
I just logged in as betatester, looks good so far
Edit: I just testet the adult section. Could not open the some of the streams. The movies works great and so does the pics. I use a HD2 on orginal ROM.
kaospiloten, thanks for the feedback!
Could you name one of the streams that doesn't work (or pm it). Also, the streams are checked automatically with windows media player, and the mobile windows media player does not support everything the computer version does. A solution is trying other players, like coreplayer, etc.
Looking forward for new feature requests, so I can add new pages. What do you want to see on a mobile page??
Hi
I have problems with:
Girl TV
Girl TV2
Hardcore TV1
Hardcore TV2
AdultChannel and Movie 10 and 25 works on my HD2
I wil try them with CorePlayer
Thanks kaospiloten. You can of course visit the website from your computer, and the four are not working correctly. They probably will be removed on the next check.
But does anyone have a feature request so we can add new options/features.
I'm a bit disappointed with the feedback. Come on guys
Come on, we have worked hard to make all of this free...
Well, we had some other testers, and most of the bugs have been removed. So the website is open for everyone now.
Kind regards,
Themuzz

Well i have some request, tv channel which i can watch on spb tv i cant watch on molymobile!!! I also wonder if its possible to insert radio links into spb radio!!
Well, it's not spb but has way more streams
Ok, so I have search through the threads and tried a few different packages, half of them dont seem to work and few have any decent channels.
I am looking for a mobile TV package which can plan UK BBC channels, or even just BBC news 24.
Spb mobile TV looked promising and worked well but the channel selection is dismal. I have tried a few packages where you can add you own channels but could not find any URL's for BBC channels, I know they are out their as iphone has TVcatchup.
Any help would be great.

myPlayer lets you add custom channels, but if you are within the UK the "Favourites" view should already give you access to the BBC ones. I find setting the player preference to Windows Media Player is ideal for this. If you have CorePlayer - even better - as then you get to watch the high quality digital TV feeds
or you could install skyfire and use tvcatchup. Its not just for iphones

Hi Guys
I'm toying with watching tech video podcasts on my HD2 whilst im bored (waiting for people in pub etc) so, was wondering if any of you could recommend any?
I'm interested in:
general science/tech news like TheRegister
Phones (of course!)
maybe some entertainment news?
I want the channel to contain the podcast and not just a download link so my phone will auto-pull the video down and have it ready when I want to watch it, not have to wait to click on a link.
Can anyone suggest any RSS/other feeds for RSS Hub?
Cheers!
Ok so, i got CNET - MP4's. I've previously purchased Coreplayer so thought that would be ok. Despite however setting MP4 file association in Coreplayer, RSS hub still says
"there is no apploication associated with this type of file"
Any ideas how to fix this as its an ideal solution!
Anyone know of any websites using HTML5 to stream music? Pandora is going to update their website to HTML5 soon, but was just wondering if there are any good legal websites streaming using HTML5 for the time being.
something like this>>
http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/mobile/HTML5/Audio/Default.html
There is one MS used to demo HTML5 on IE9 - don't recall what it was, but since it wasn't in English, it was pretty much unusable to me. I got it to play something though, and it worked as promised.
But right now I am dissapointed with the lack of HTML5 content on the web. And also it looks like some sites have odd implementations of it. Vimeo HTML5 player, for example, does not work on WP, but does work on the desktop version of IE9. I think the problem is on Vimeo's end - checking for browsers, and not allowing HTML5 to work on browsers not explicitly supported by Vimeo.
The one which MS demoed is already linked in my OP, was just wondering if there were websites using that tech.
I just figured there would be plenty of html5 websites since the iOS devices so not support flash, but I guess flash still rules the web.
https://droptun.es/ has a html5 version of their service (you'll have to link your dropbox account, if you have one, with it, or create one)
Haven't tried it on mango yet but in theory you'll be able to listen to your music while multitasking.
Its no HTML5 support in: 7661.WP7_5_Trial.
Are your just going to test it on your pc ?

IE9 Mobile on Mango beta supports HTML5 and IMO is better than even the desktop version of IE9 Try the Mobile IE9 test drive site, its amazing.
Pandora if you're a One subscriber all users within a couple weeks. Just pin it to your start screen and you're good to go!
