Rooting/hacking the T-Mo One S? - HTC One S

So I'm hearing that the international version and the US T-Mo version are different, and it's easy to brick the T-Mo version if you use the intl guide for rooting.
Can someone please be clear about what needs to be done for rooting the T-Mo variant? This is serious business, messing with a brand new phone on a 2 yr contract.

Anyone know how to root the T-Mo HTC One S yet?
Personally, I'm not looking to install ROMs, I just want root, so I can use Titanium to back up apps and appdata and maybe a couple of other things that require root.

Same here. I'm not ready for ROMs quite yet, despite coming from daily flashes of CM9/AOKP on my Nexus S, but I'd sure as hell like to get root and get rid of all this godawful T-Mo bloatware, at the very least.

how can using root for international version brick the tmobile version ??
its not possible, the only way you brick your phone is by not following the instructions

I read a post in the developer section where someone said it was a different process. Maybe a bit more clarification is all we need. Coming from a T989 if I tried to use an international root method this would not go so good..

I just got my t-mobile one s.. Unlocked bootloader- flashed the recovery- then installed su... No problems.

I'm wondering the same. How different is different? I got the GSII for tmobile and buyers remorsed when I quickly realized there was hardly any rom support because of how different it was from the International version. I'm coming from the Vibrant community where variants were heavy but most things were relatively similar in the end. This makes me wonder if each different One S needs its own thread like the Galaxy S series.

I think you must have read something different. It's absolutely not any easier to brick the T-mo version. You must be mistaken. It's actually hard to brick (as in impossible to recover) a phone if your not messing with the radio.

You just have to follow the guides.
Unlock the bootloader using this tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604677
After that I used the superboot file found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577831
Now your phones rooted.
If you want to install a custom recovery I could only get the "Interim Touch (Custom CWM)" found in the all in one tool to stick.

[Q] 1.73.631.1 Software Number. Am I outdated and way behind?

Thats what I am on. I keep seeing posts about 1.85 and 1.87.
So since im on 1.73 can I use the 1 click root since thats all I might wanna do for now?
What are the major differences from mine and say 1.85?
Simple question but new with the HOX so I got to ask before I go making uninformed judgements on modding up my phone.

If your on Rogers you are up to date.

Seeing as you're in Canada, if you bought a Rogers phone and unlocked it for Virgin, Rogers only has phones with 1.73 base AFAIK. Just use this to root your phone. From there, if you plan on flashing custom ROMs then head to htcdev.com to unlock your bootloader. When flashing each ROM, it will come with whatever base it was built on (I think most are 1.88 right now). Personally, I recommend going with KingCobra1X, but to each his own.
There are reports of better Wifi and data connectivity on the newer bases. If you want to upgrade to these using official RUU's I would avoid the AT&T ones since there's some functionality taken away due to lawsuits from Apple, as well as the Wifi tethering disabled. Just go with the Asia 1.88 RUU if you plan on upgrading that way.

Anyone tried a T-MO ROM on the AT&T G2?

I'm currently using an unlocked AT&T G2 on the T-Mobile network, but all these AT&T specific features and apps are really bugging the crap out of me. Has anyone tried installing a T-Mobile version of the stock firmware on this Model? Really didn't want to just jump in and mess up my phone without asking first.

[Q] Verizon HTC One ROM Question

I have a quick question about the Verizon variant of the HTC One M8. I just received my HTC One from Verizon. I quickly set to rooting and gaining S-Off. I was able to use Firewater and Weaksauce to gain root and S-Off really easily. Now, I am looking into flashing a different ROM, and here is where I am getting confused. I am wanting to use an AOSP ROM. However, there are very few AOSP builds in the Verizon HTC One forum. I did a bit of digging and I found that Cyanogenmod merged their releases into one device, uniquely named m8. So, my question: Will ROMs developed for just the HTC One M8 work for my Verizon M8? I don't want to flash a ROM and end up screwing something up (of course, I have made a stock rooted backup, but knowing my luck, something will happen and I will be SOL).

It MUST say that it is compatible. Some roms say "for all variants" which means all versions of the phone.

Wow, you're quite lucky to gain Firewater with a brand new device this late after it being fixed on new M8's. To answer your question, not all ROM's developed for the non carrier M8 will work on the carrier M8's (Verizon in this case), some will such as Cyanogenmod but not all. Usually the developers will say whether or not your carrier version (Once more, Verizon in this case) is compatible with their ROM, sometimes they don't but you can almost always find out by reading further into the thread as almost always someone else has asked. Oh and thank you's to @Quadrider10 for this part here(about it saying it's compatible), usually if it doesn't say it is compatible then it isn't but as I said you can always confirm it via replies to the thread or asking yourself.
Onto Cyanogenmod in specific, yes it will work perfectly on your device. I've personally tried it myself and honestly it is quite stable to be a "nightly". Anyways yeah it works and you'll be fine, just as always insure you have a working backup just incase.

You have no idea how shocked I was that it worked. I installed Sunshine and it took me to the payment screen, so I thought I would give it a shot. Took about two minutes and it threw up that beautiful "You are now S-Off" message. Reboot to bootloader and sure enough, it worked. It did prompt me to update on my first boot, but I declined it. I am assuming I either got old stock or Verizon was just being extra lazy.
Anyway, thanks again for the quick responses. Going to give CM11 a shot!

No love for V10 AT&T

I don't know the first thing about building a ROM. But doesn't anyone have an AT&T version of this phone?
I do, there's no root yet

It's not that there's no love for at&t...
There is not root out for that model since the bootloader is locked
Bootloader cannot and probably never will be unlocked on this device or any other Android device on AT&T's network. This is the number one reason I left AT&T last year. Without this prerequisite you cannot have custom recovery/kernels/love.
OEM unlock in settings gets us no where?
Same with me @androidfilesharing. Just left them for tmobile. Att had great service and customer service. But no carrier is gonna dictate what i do with MY device. Especially when they make me pay full retail for the device.

First thing you need to know about building ROMs is that the device you are building for needs root. AT&T and Verizon is well known for not allowing root or unlocking bootloaders. Sorry.

verizon pixel with unlcked bootloader

I'm looking to buy a pixel 2 that's a Verizon model but was able to use the latest exploit and so the bootloader has been unlocked. My question is, can I flash roms etc now that the bootloader has been unlocked or do I need to wait for Verizon specific models?
Just trying to figure out exactly what I can do with this model???

You can do anything you want. Pretend it is a Google model now, since that is exactly what it is. Only thing different is once in awhile you will see a VZ specific image posted by Google but those are always just minor changes to the radio. Currently there is no specific VZ version. You have, and always have had the same software as the Google phones.
FYI, you are in the Pixel forum. There are specific forums for the 2's.

One of the greatest aspects of this phone is the ability to search XDA...it's fantastic.
That aside, as long as you don't lock the bootloader, the phone is identical to the Google Store model.
