[Q] Anyone Leaving the Skyrocket for HSPA+ Nexus? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Is anyone who currently has a Skyrocket going to get the Galaxy Nexus off-contract for $399? I don't live in an LTE area so I'm not worried about that part, but I have a 32GB SD card that I use from when I had an HTC Thunderbolt and the thought of going to only 16GB is a bit concerning. With an official ICS around the corner for the Skyrocket, would it be foolish to jump on this opportunity?

EDIT.... Nevermind.

Lte is too good to give up once cm9, aokp, evervolv or any thing else hit then really what's the difference?

Better roms will come out all the time. However, if you don't have LTE, you can't add it. I personally go for the better hardware. Software is temporary, hardware is not.

This could also be seen a different way. Hardware is also temporary if you consider the rate in which new phones are put out.

Hardware is temporary when waiting for Samsung & AT&T to release the source so that AOSP builds can be built.
When you're just getting comfortable in ICS the Nexus will have Jelly Bean.
BTW: I bought one. Keeping my SR as a backup phone.

This is true, but a contract is 1-2 years. On the other hand, we flash roms like winos drink Boone's. While phones are released constantly, I would guess that the majority of people do not buy them at that rate.

Heck with tablet.. Im getting the Note

Was out looking at tabs today.. they all suck.. my sr screen looks better and does the same thing..so..
The Samsung Note will be awesome .. no doubt.. heard it will be coming to ATT&T.. but I might just get the unlocked version instead.
I like big phones.. love the SR and the Note will be best of both worlds..
Not to mention the screen on the Note is beautiful!!
I'm with you on that. I can't wait for an LTE version of the Note to come to AT&T. However, I'm curious to see if people will be able to do much ROM work on this tab due to the specialized software that it's running. Other than rooting the phone and getting superuser access to it, I'm not sure you can mess with a lot of it's functions without losing a lot of it's digitizer functions.
I hear you on that, but I'm sure they will have something in the works...Heck the Note will be great as is..but its nice to "play" with them.
Its anybody's guess when Att&t will get it.. It will be soon I'm sure.. with the Nexus coming from Verizon.. The Note would be a perfect answer to the Nexus.
I love that "Pen" that comes with the Note..
I would pay $300 or more for the Note at Att&T no question.

Looks more and more like US version will be similar to the LTE version in Korea with the Snapdragon processor. Considering that the Nexus starts at $299 with contract, I won't be surprised if this one starts at the same price or even at $349.

So am i to understand that the NOTE will NOT have the Exynos Proccesor and instead the snap dragon when it comes to the US. BUT if i buy it from the UK it will come with the 1.4 exynos dual core??
thats retarded. if this is true i will be buying the NOTE next week and not wait for it.
Do you guys all like the Note that much? It's so big, even the SR is a little big for my taste. The extra screen space is nice, but when it's no longer practical to use as a phone, then doesn't defeat it's purpose? Maybe it's just me, but when the Streak came out and I saw people with them pressed against their heads, I just shook my head.

AT&T reveals phones getting ICS

I know theres a bunch of this around, but this is pretty new News,
even tho we all know it WILL take months to roll out... but just some more news,
Code:
http://www.afterdawn.com/news/article.cfm/2012/03/22/at_t_reveals_phones_getting_ics
AT&T has listed its smartphones that will be getting the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the coming months.
Those devices are the LG Nitro, Motorola ATRIX 2, Motorola ATRIX 4G, Pantech Burst, Pantech Element, Samsung Captivate Glide, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy S II, Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, and Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9.
The carrier made sure to note that it will take months for the updates to roll out to your device, but at least those are confirmed.

I think it's on Samsung more than AT&T.
We'll get it either from T-Mobile's rollout to the Hercules or Rogers rollout to their Skyrocket clone or from AT&T.
Three carriers, three very similar phones.... three chances. Plus leaks from Samsung themselves.
We really should kill all ICS threads and have one single master ICS sticky thread for all ICS related news.
Someone else start it please.

I just hope the next couple releases don't break driver compatibility.
Like Froyo and Gingerbread weren't a big deal to upgrade from Eclair. That's good. That reduces fragmentation. When you break driver compatibility, you make upgrading a monster pain in the ass and it's slow.

Sure, ICS might take awhile for the 727 and others already have it, but we _do_ have LTE and I love it- there's no software upgrade for that!
Like the developer commnity won't have it out before 90% of the carriers, and with less bloat. ^____^

I totally agree with you there.
I bought the Skyrocket for a few main reasons:
LTE
Benchmarks compared to others available at the time of purchase.
The promise of the ICS update
If I wasn't in need of a phone at the time of purchase, I would have most likely picked up the Note.
I am a patient person and can wait for the release. If I don't like what is provided I am sure there will be plenty of other ROMs to choose from at the time as ICS should be available for the other 'brother' devices shortly.
But seriously, with all of the griping that I am seeing regarding ICS it makes me wonder what is going to be said when Jelly Bean becomes available...
Just my two cents, thanks for listening.
they better hurry up

Multiboot

I notice there's a multi boot app for the gs2 that allows the user to boot into different rims via different button combinations but is there any sort that will work for the skyrocket aswell??

Agreed the only plus for the Inspire was the forum on here for it is really good, and it was easy to root and flash correctly.
Also side note I'd be willing to do some snooping around to figure out how to port some kind of multiboot to the Skyrocket.
However I feel like the major hardware differences will be major problems am I right?

Say what you will about the SG3 radio... But I have never dropped a call or had a 4G outage since I purchased it on launch day. My Nexus however was a completely different story. The Nexus will give you a new rom to play with every night, but the GS3 will give you fewer headaches in the signal and battery departments.

Good bye HTC Rezound, hello Galaxy S3!
Even if the bootloader dont get unlocked, ill be happy using the kexec method...other than the extra 30 seconds boot time, I see no difference. Also our current flashig methods dont trip the flash counter since were Not flashing non-stock firmware in odin!

I had an Epic Touch (on Sprint) and went to a Galaxy Nexus (on Verizon) then a S3 and IMO it's a huge upgrade. I absolutely love this phone and wouldn't even consider going back to a GNex. The only thing I don't like is the physical home button but a stable AOKP will resolve that. As for the locked boot loader I was a little concerned too but with Kexec it's irrelevant. They already have CM9/CM10/AOKP running on this phone. I'd rather just use Kexec knowing I can return to stock then void warranty with a bootloader unlock. JMO!
Both are great phones, I have the GS3 and my old man has the Nexus. Touchwiz isn't too bad if you get use to it.

Exact same situation here as well. My mom's already fed up with the damn thing freezing up every day, even though it's on the stock V21y ROM and baseband, which was supposed to "fix" these issues. She reboots it just about every day too (or else it gets slow as molasses).
For moms, just flash them a vanilla cm7 with either faux 048 or Trinity T15 kernel.
Solid, dependable, hassle free after initial setup.

Does anyone know if there has been any real progress since the ICS release/leak/whatever for the SU660? I thought that since it has the tegra 2 as well maybe it could be ported over more easily than from the p990. But I don't know what all is involved with that sort of stuff.
