Hello, I read this forum daily but not participate very often.
Two days ago I uninstalled facebook because with the latest update its camera process would always stay open in the background, no matter what I did.
Since then my Galaxy R transformed, it is like I got a new phone, there is no UI lag, all aplications' effects work perfectly and fast, apps open instantly etc.
I was really surprised by the difference so I thought to share it with you.
That's Facebook for you , stays in the background so you can receive notifications from them .
You can also try force app close with Settings > Development > Stop app via long-press . Tick that and you can now close any app just by holding the Back button .
The iPad 2. Revolutionary. (jk)
No I don't care if you're anti-Apple.
I had completely turned off notifications and synchronization for the facebook app. Most task managers showed it as closed, yet I could see from time to time that it used system resources through BetterBatteryStats.
The thing is that it didn't just use memory, it made any non OpenGL animation on my phone slow.
Opening the drawer of GoLauncher? Slow as hell. Opening the weather of beautiful widgets? Slow as hell. Browsing photos through QuickPic gallery? Slow as hell compared to the stock gallery.
In the stock camera app, whenever I pressed a setting, the transparent menu with the available options would take 3 or more seconds to appear.
Since I uninstalled the Facebook app all these lags are completely gone.
I haven't seen a difference in battery though. It is just like facebook was keeping a hardware resource for itself, not letting other apps use it.
PS. The setting about closing apps with long press isn't available on the stock ROM. I think only CM has it.

Most of the time when I press the native gallery app, its blank. I exit and press it again, still blank. Sometimes I have to reboot to get my folders to appear.
Sometimes I press the gallery app and my dropbox folder appears (or any other one of my folders), so i exit and press gallery app, after several tries my other 5 folders often show up. Other times its a different folder that shows up, maybe even a couple, but only about 33% of the time do i press my gallery app and have my folders show up on the first try
Do I have a defective device or is the stock Android 2.1 update 1 just not a stable operating system?
I havent read anything from Google regarding the gallery app other than that it uses lesser image quality than the older versions of the app. I like the 3d feel and the image movement in the gallery app, but id rather have the older version that let me look at my image/video folders. Since I have a stock Nexus, is there a way for me to remove the broken native gallery and install and older version? thanks
I've been having this happen fairly frequently with my stock N1 as well. Kind of annoying and i'm not sure what eventually makes the photos/music load. I usually exit, reload, or look through the camera app to find them.
are you using a task killer..?
could also be sdcard issues.
No task killer. And I recently had an sdcard go bonkers so I'm using a new one at the moment...
install an app called SDrescan and if it happens again just run that app...the files should show up afterwards.
I have recently updated my GT-p6200 to ICS(Hate it) and found lots of bugs.
1. Message Icon in the home screen is showing 1 unread message without any unread one (The Menu Message icon is Normal) , when i restart all backs to normal. Please hit a solution for me.
2. I had Chrome like New tab feature with fav sites widgets in my old gingerbread browser and this ICS browser is normal, Any thing can be done for this?
3. It hangs a lot when many apps are opened simultaneously even when Ram is free.
4. Everytime I come back to Homescreen after closing any app it take time to come to normal ,it seems like it refreshes everytime. Please give some solution at-least for the first question as it is the most irritating one.
5.Do someone have detail explanation for developer option s in settings.
Please reply with solutions.
Thanks
1. You might have killed the process using some task manager. Not sure. If you're gonna use Nova at number 4, try Tesla Unread Plugin.
2. Download Chrome Browser
3. You may have an app or some apps that causes lag. In my experience, playing some huge games while doing other stuffs(e.g. Browser, Slices, and etc.) did not lag at all. Investigate as to which app is causing the intensive usage of your CPU.
4. Change the stock Launcher to either Apex or Nova. There are others too like Go Launcher HD for Pad and etc. I personally recommend Apex or Nova. Make sure to make it as default and keep in memory for less withdraws. Also you might be using the built-in task manager to kill all apps at once, this apparently also kills the stock launcher if you are not on the homescreen or app drawer. Same goes even for other launchers. Avoid using that without being on the homescreen.
5. Google that.
Hi
Could someone also check if the front camera is downgraded to 0.3 megapixel?
Mine says 640x480 after official ics update, philippines
Tnx

Thanks alot mate but i found soln for the ist prob.
Just had to uncheck kill task after leaving in developer option and standard event in process option.
And thanks for answering other questns
Brand new to Android coming from iOS. Battery life is an issue. Reading up. Ran Carat and found the Battery Percentage App I installed was identified as a Battery Hog itself! Going to run a couple more days before using something like JuiceDefender Plus.
How essential are these processes?
GO SMS Pro (does it always have to be running? should I dump it and go back to stock messaging app?)
HTS Sense (assume no way around this except custom ROM)
TegraZone
Google Services
Media
Maps (Haven't even run G Maps once yet!)
Swiftkey 3 - wow, takes up 19MB. Hope it is really THAT much better than HTC keyboard?
And odd thing is that in many cases, I can't see how you close the app, let alone, REALLY close it. Of course this was no different than iOS, when you closed it, it still was in memory in the background so it would resume when you brought it back up. On iPhone you press the Home button to close it and go back to the spring board. Same here? I know - dumb newbie question.

It's not a dumb question at all. Android uses a different system to manage memory, and does a good job. To get better battery life, look at your settings and turn off automatic syncing, gps, location services, etc. The problem is that not all the time you will have wifi/data. The phone constantly is looking for data and that uses battery as well. You can kill the maps in the task manager, but it might restart itself when you reboot and update the app, and there's no way around this unless you root your phone.
To find the task manager, go into the apps menu, and look for Task Manager. You can completely kill apps from there, but I wouldn't worry about it too much, android does a good job most of the time. For those apps that are stubborn it's good for.
If you don't want to root, try going into settings and then apps. You can disable apps that you might consider "bloatware" such as AT&T apps and youtube, etc.

Actually on iPhone you don't just press home, you double click home hold the app when a minus comes up then you close it.wow I never knew how many clueless people could be with an iphone..anyways for the HTC one x you press the capacitive button to the right of home then you swipe up on the app to quit it.Now If you want to permanately remove bloatware/other processes, you have to root the phone ...although juice defender ult is a great app..the one x battery is great for me..even when I was on stock..maybe turn off fastboot( in power settings) turn off all the sound, Screen brightness low, touch settings(vibrate when keys touched..etc).check push notifications manually.. believe me android is more productive in battery life then IOS. Hope I helped. A thanks would be appreciated
Ya, I knew how to close apps in background on iPhone, just didn't explain it right. To bad there's nothing close to Intelliscreen X for Android. Really miss the collapsible notification widgets on the lockscreen. Widgetlock with Tesla Unread Counter is a step in the right direction. I guess with such a small screen the iPhone developers have always been forced to get creative with how the apps use screen space. Those guys at Intelliborn really pulled off an amazing app. Too bad none of the people that have not jailbroken their iPhones can use it.
Battery life is much much better now (still in first 24 hours of usage). Not sure what I had running, but it could have been the Battery Percentage App I downloaded that Carat listed on the Battery "Hogs" list that I uninstalled. Ironic a battery meter would cause much more battery drain. Unfortunately I read than on HTC they have no option to switch to % where other phone do. Haven't used JuiceDefender Plus yet, but maybe that will give me the info. The battery icon is so worthless for knowing "really" how much you have left except for a general estimate.
Oh and THANKS on the swipe up thing. Is there a "must know" guide for "power users" coming over from iOS to Android/Jelly Bean that would tell me more of this stuff. I never would have guessed it and was flip through the apps wondering "how the hell to I close all these?" Still in my first day though. Man this phone is fast.
Well, battery was doing great then I wasn't doing much with phone and could feel it get hot. I watched Battery go from 85-65 in about 30 minutes! I went into Carat and saw high CPU, but you can't see from Carat what is eating the CPU so downloaded Android Task Manager, great app. Used realtime processes report. Of course #1 CPU eater is the Process Monitor itself (only when you are looking at it). But I was seeing the PowerAmp "Service", "Music Enhancer" and "Sound Set" and "HD Widgets" all very active in CPU usage. Wasn't using PowerAmp or HD Widgets. Haven't even used any of the widgets!
Is there something other than carat that will give me an average CPU usage say in the last hour of all the background services and processes so I can determine what's eating the battery in a short period of time - or am I stuck just looking at realtime process info?
It looks like from a brief search PowerAmp service is "normal". I have a HUGE MP3 library of 3000 songs I just synced yesterday - is gradually processing them or something? I also downloaded Neutron Player. Both have excellent sound quality but the Neutron interface is geeky - PowerAmp more like iTunes but I'm an Audiophile so if I have to go to Neutron to avoid this PowerAmp "Service" from eating my battery from time to time I will.
I've been using the app button and the swipe up a lot now to clear out apps - but like iPhone I'm guessing in most cases it doesn't make a huge difference as Android, like iOS sort of sleeps the background apps anyway. Or should I be in the habit of checking and closing background apps not being used? It seems the "services" are what can cause the issue more (other than foreground apps). Still learning. Bare with me.
I'm not a gamer. If there was a setting (without needing root/custom ROM) to underclock the CPU a little, I'd probably take that for more batter life. Seems on the One X+ I'm guessing much of the extra battery capacity is offset by the higher clocked processor! It's probably just a matter of me finishing getting the phone configured the way I want, stop adding apps, then debug the CPU/Battery hogs and uninstall, change settings, or start using JuiceDefender. My guess.
Feel like such a newbie. Found the built-in Android Battery Usage screen. Shows Android Task Manager as using it the most! But I was having the hot temp/battery drain before I even installed that! Second is the Android OS. Third is WL Theme Viewer. That makes sense as that WidgetLock Theme view app created a big database. But the battery drain continued after it was done! Then Sounds Set, HTC Sence, Google Play Store, Carat, HD Widgets. What the hell is HD Widgets doing? So no jump out culprits - except Sound Set seems suspicious!
Facebook Home App is available For Android Device
I tested it And works fine but takes more time to load the home screen

If it really works and does the things it was designed for, I will never, never install this.
Would be the final surrender and is a perversion of Android.
This does not work for me. I uninstalled FB and FB messenger, installed the 3 APKs found on that site. Logged in to FB and FB Messenger but there is no "Enable Facebook Home" option in the FB app settings. If i choose to use the FB Home launcher, i get a black background with the little circle icon with my FB display picture in it.
the resolution on our phone is 1280x800 is it not? that website lists the max res that is compatible as 1280x768.
Edit: This is on a Samsung JB DXLSE rom, maybe you will get a different result on a non-touchwiz rom
Worked for me... and I uninstalled it just 3 minutes ago Just wanted to see whether it did work. I get my FB picture in the middle and when I drag it I get a camera on the left (Doesn't work?) apps at the to along with status updates and on the right I forgot... either way it is now uninstalled.
Oh, and I was on Asylum CM10.1

I guess you need facebook camera app. Black screen for me but now works fine! Anyway ive uninstalled it because i dont want friends or unknow people as my wallpaper... the idea was great but... it's not what i want
I really don't see the point of the Facebook app. It's like going back in time, as you lose the flexibility of the Android OS, without any widgets or customization of the home screen. Does anyone else see any use for the Facebook app?
4.1.2 JB LSZ Union ROM v5, KSO Modem, speedmod K-5 kernel, Carrier: AT&T (US)
Don't work for me
The facebook app provided just gives me 'error try logging in again later' message. I tried the facebook app from play store but there is no option to enable facebook home.
Stock LSZ (rooted)
Edit : just read somewhere that facebook has just blocked the dev version of facebook!
same here when "error try logging in again "
They need to fix the FB app, not create a new one. When you use Facebook Home, it feels like using iOS, really fluid... but when you use the Facebook app, looks like a primitive java app, even the Facebook for every phone JAR its better than the stock android app....
Sorry my bad english
Can't see this catching on for more than five minutes while people test it out, the reason I use Twitter over Facebook is so I can choose which pictures I want to have rammed down my throat, Facebook is ok, but it really depends on your friends and what causes, situations and inane conversations they choose to share, and to have that plastered all over my home screen instead of my 3d fish or some other funky live wallpaper, with widgets that feedback up to date information is beyond me.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Facebook Home really sucks bad! I'm never going to use it. All I see is memes and funny pictures on my lock screen. And most of all, FB Home is such a battery hog!
after installing facebook home, it is mandatory to reboot, but will not work
used for 5 minutes and then took off yesterday, is slower than normal application
I have an Honor 8,chinese version FRD-AL00.(rooted)
The problem is everytime i clear the memory the phone kills the app completely. Ex- the app "messenger" or "whats app" , if i clear them from memory (clear ram on multitask window) i no longer recieve notifications.I have to always leave them opened on the backround.I also tried removing them from battery optimization and it didnt work.

Man, I am living with this problem for more than half a year. I did find a somewhat tolerable solution - it is not exactly elegant but it might prove helpful. So yes, after playing with every possible parameter in settings , I also came to the conclusion that nothing really helps except keeping these apps minimized in the background. So I decided to just find a way to hide these minimized apps from the "recent apps" so that these don't interfere with my other activity.
Finally, I managed to find one humble app which does exactly that (you won't be able to find it by the name in Google Play, hence I provide the link).
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=comapede.app.versteckeapp
The instructions might not be exactly clear - you have to install the app then access the widgets from your home screen, identify the Hide App widget and drag it on the home screen. At this point you will be presented with the list of all apps on your device and you would need to chose the app you want to hide. After doing so, a widget for this specific app would be created (which looks identically to the app icon but works differently). First, make sure you discard the respective app from the recent apps, then, to enable hiding, every time you launch the app, you need to do it from the created widget (not from the icon). Obviously, you can repeat the action for all other apps you need to hide.
This worked reliably with Nova Launcher on Android 7 (EMUI 5.0) and continues to work after updating to Android 8 (EMUI 8.0). I also have Chinese ROM (not rooted).
As for the reason why this happens - I have no clue. I don't exclude that it is a software bug that is quite rare on honor 8 devices (otherwise I would see more people complaining).
There is an interesting aspect though - while I have been using my FB messenger for a while like this (this was the only way it worked), now I am able to access the app from its native icon and discard it from the recent apps and it still receives messages instantaneously (same about Skype, Viber). (I don't remember if this is related to the update). Yet for other apps, like KinScreen, Light Flow, ACR (Automatic Call Recorder) and many others, if I run the apps from their icons, the moment I discard them from recent apps, they are shut down completely.
Hopefully this works out for your

Thank you.Ill try the app or keep them locked on multitask. The most important reason i asked is because i applied for a job and they had sent me an email for an interview.I missed it cuz i hadnt opened gmail.I couldnt care less for games or any other entertaining apps but when it comes to work or more serious stuff then it becomes a problem. Thanks again.

Yes, this can be really frustrating. For me it has been a series of missed Skype calls, which I happened to discover even after more than a week.
