Is the native Gallery app generally unstable or is my phone defective?? - Nexus One Themes and Apps

Most of the time when I press the native gallery app, its blank. I exit and press it again, still blank. Sometimes I have to reboot to get my folders to appear.
Sometimes I press the gallery app and my dropbox folder appears (or any other one of my folders), so i exit and press gallery app, after several tries my other 5 folders often show up. Other times its a different folder that shows up, maybe even a couple, but only about 33% of the time do i press my gallery app and have my folders show up on the first try
Do I have a defective device or is the stock Android 2.1 update 1 just not a stable operating system?
I havent read anything from Google regarding the gallery app other than that it uses lesser image quality than the older versions of the app. I like the 3d feel and the image movement in the gallery app, but id rather have the older version that let me look at my image/video folders. Since I have a stock Nexus, is there a way for me to remove the broken native gallery and install and older version? thanks

I've been having this happen fairly frequently with my stock N1 as well. Kind of annoying and i'm not sure what eventually makes the photos/music load. I usually exit, reload, or look through the camera app to find them.

are you using a task killer..?
could also be sdcard issues.

No task killer. And I recently had an sdcard go bonkers so I'm using a new one at the moment...

install an app called SDrescan and if it happens again just run that app...the files should show up afterwards.

Uninstalled Facebook, my SGR transformed!

Hello, I read this forum daily but not participate very often.
Two days ago I uninstalled facebook because with the latest update its camera process would always stay open in the background, no matter what I did.
Since then my Galaxy R transformed, it is like I got a new phone, there is no UI lag, all aplications' effects work perfectly and fast, apps open instantly etc.
I was really surprised by the difference so I thought to share it with you.
That's Facebook for you , stays in the background so you can receive notifications from them .
You can also try force app close with Settings > Development > Stop app via long-press . Tick that and you can now close any app just by holding the Back button .
The iPad 2. Revolutionary. (jk)
No I don't care if you're anti-Apple.
I had completely turned off notifications and synchronization for the facebook app. Most task managers showed it as closed, yet I could see from time to time that it used system resources through BetterBatteryStats.
The thing is that it didn't just use memory, it made any non OpenGL animation on my phone slow.
Opening the drawer of GoLauncher? Slow as hell. Opening the weather of beautiful widgets? Slow as hell. Browsing photos through QuickPic gallery? Slow as hell compared to the stock gallery.
In the stock camera app, whenever I pressed a setting, the transparent menu with the available options would take 3 or more seconds to appear.
Since I uninstalled the Facebook app all these lags are completely gone.
I haven't seen a difference in battery though. It is just like facebook was keeping a hardware resource for itself, not letting other apps use it.
PS. The setting about closing apps with long press isn't available on the stock ROM. I think only CM has it.

Homescreen App Folder Issue

This is driving me crazy. When I open a homescreen folder and then launch an app everything is fine. However when exiting the app if I press the home "button" when the open folder returns it also constantly reopen the keyboard and goes to the folder name editing option. If I exit the app by pressing the "return" button then it just goes to the open folder and there are no problems. Why does this happen? I feel like I should be able to exit an open app by pressing home and not be forced to edit the folder title each time. Please help!!!!!
Had this same exact thing happen to me. It does start to drive you crazy. Not really a fix but a workaround, I started using a launcher since I like to use folders to organize my apps. I am using GoLauncher HD. By using the gestures in GoLauncher HD I can hide everything and by either swiping or tapping bring everything back up. I have all of my folders set up in the dock.
There are other ways but I like this setup.

The latest firmware, that was pulled, fixes this problem. You can still flash that firmware ; look in the development section. It also fixed the problem with exFAT support for the SD card. Also, it seems to me that the whole note just runs better with the update. However, some people don't like the updates to the S note app.

[Q] default app not in app list, how do i clear it?

hi, wonder if anyone can help, i hope i dont have to wipe and flash again.
I recently flashed Wicked rom v7 on SSGS4 (SGH-M919), and when flashing I chose to include the google camera app.
I am also using the AOSP lock screen so when I swipe left from the lock screen it goes straight to camera. I was trying different camera apps and setting the default camera that launches from the lock screen, and for all the other cameras I was able to go to app manager and clear the defaults. However, the google camera does not show up in my app manager, so after I set it to the default camera I cannot clear that default, now I am stuck with the google camera as my default.
I tried downloading that app "Default app manager" but it also does not see the google camera app. Tried turning off the AOSP lock screen (from the wicked rom manager) and turning back on, and the google camera is still set as default. also tried searching forums and google but cannot seem to find anything.
Any idea where this default setting is actually stored, like is there a file somewhere either in the app folder or a system folder that stores this setting, that I am able to manually clear?
thanks
OK after much messing around I figured it out, the Camera app is called photosphere.apk because they named it after its new feature. can't figure out how to delete this thread so I'll just post the answer.
using Root Browser for android, I had to go into /system/app, and make a backup copy and then delete Photosphere.apk - that is the app that contains the 4.3 Camera and gallery (and its icon is the gallery icon). then restart the phone, set a new default camera app, then copy photosphere.apk back into the /system/app folder and restart.

replace album app

when you take a photo it on the z5 and press the preview button it opens the album app and there is lag when you want to open the photo you just took and I believe at present there is no way to simply change the gallery app it opens after you take a photo such as quickpic, is there way to modify the apk or something so that you can change this?
I think you go to settings/apps gallery and then clear defaults next time you will then get a prompt to choose default viewer

Same issue here. Seen this question with the same answer above but it seems after jellybean it's not possible. I've deleted, force stopped, cleared cache's and defaults then reinstalled/reopened and album is still set as the default. Really annoying.
I fear there's no.convenient way to.go. The call of the Album app is hardcoded into the Camera app. Either you take another Camera app with all the downsides or you decompile the Camera apk and search & change the package name. You need root to install the modified app where you would loose the DRM keys for the moment as no root for locked bootloader is available up to now.

Man, I am living with this problem for more than half a year. I did find a somewhat tolerable solution - it is not exactly elegant but it might prove helpful. So yes, after playing with every possible parameter in settings , I also came to the conclusion that nothing really helps except keeping these apps minimized in the background. So I decided to just find a way to hide these minimized apps from the "recent apps" so that these don't interfere with my other activity.
Finally, I managed to find one humble app which does exactly that (you won't be able to find it by the name in Google Play, hence I provide the link).
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=comapede.app.versteckeapp
The instructions might not be exactly clear - you have to install the app then access the widgets from your home screen, identify the Hide App widget and drag it on the home screen. At this point you will be presented with the list of all apps on your device and you would need to chose the app you want to hide. After doing so, a widget for this specific app would be created (which looks identically to the app icon but works differently). First, make sure you discard the respective app from the recent apps, then, to enable hiding, every time you launch the app, you need to do it from the created widget (not from the icon). Obviously, you can repeat the action for all other apps you need to hide.
This worked reliably with Nova Launcher on Android 7 (EMUI 5.0) and continues to work after updating to Android 8 (EMUI 8.0). I also have Chinese ROM (not rooted).
As for the reason why this happens - I have no clue. I don't exclude that it is a software bug that is quite rare on honor 8 devices (otherwise I would see more people complaining).
There is an interesting aspect though - while I have been using my FB messenger for a while like this (this was the only way it worked), now I am able to access the app from its native icon and discard it from the recent apps and it still receives messages instantaneously (same about Skype, Viber). (I don't remember if this is related to the update). Yet for other apps, like KinScreen, Light Flow, ACR (Automatic Call Recorder) and many others, if I run the apps from their icons, the moment I discard them from recent apps, they are shut down completely.
Hopefully this works out for your

Yes, this can be really frustrating. For me it has been a series of missed Skype calls, which I happened to discover even after more than a week.
