[Q] What do you use your Xoom for?

I'd like to make a list of the things you can use your Xoom for. Like most people, I use my laptop for most stuff; the Xoom is just for messing around. I find myself walking over to the laptop to respond to emails, to see things full screen, and for anything productivity related.
It's a pretty expensive piece of kit for messing around; I'm looking for reasons to keep mine (beyond that I'm a huge geek and love this tech stuff). I admit that I thought that the 3.1 update would bring more functionality, but I'm a bit disappointed to find that it's pretty much the same (in terms of how I use it); and there are so few apps with tablet functionality that I kind of wish it was just a phone...
Here's what I use it for: (I'll expand the list with your suggestions)
Check email---ususally switch to the laptop to write back (unless it's short)
Check schedule and change schedule
Check blogs (through pulse; the web browser is too clunky)
Watch videos while I'm working
Listen to Grooveshark while I'm working
Google video chat---Most people tell me it's annoying on their end though
Reading---(this one I'm not certain about yet. It's really too heavy to hold up like a kindle...)
Casual gaming---Only for silly time-wasters like "chalkball"; cordy and dungeon defenders and similar games are just stupid and clunky compared to console or PC gaming.
What I don't use it for:
Web surfing---drives me nuts
Productivity (document editing)
Video to TV---Laptop has HDMI and I also have a PS3
I really like this thing, but considering what I use it for, I could save money and get more satisfaction by buying a kindle and a nice phone. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Browsing, email, music and kindle.
That's about it.
I'm not sure tablets really have much use beyond that right now. But, to be fair, I do use it a lot for those things. Almost never use my laptop except for work.

I use mines for a substitute for my laptop. I'm a student and rely on it heavily for:
Evernote
Logmein
Pulse (while in boring lectures)
Music
Web Browsing XDA and other forums
Google Docs
Dropbox (Saved my ass several times when thumb drives failed me)
Everything I can do on a laptop I can do in my Xoom. I had the Xoom for 4 days and it blows away the iPad 2 which I traded for the Xoom. More freedom and desktop like experience. To the OP I type my papers on an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard.

got mine as a stop gap for the galaxy tab 10.1. Don't get me wrong this is a great device, its just a shame about the weight in my opinion.

Ha, same here. Figure I can sell this for about 400 and then grab a 16gb tab for 499.

I bought it so excited thinking it would help me with work and this and that, and I hardly use it for anything productive.
Maybe with more classy apps it will work better.
I'm waiting for the funds, but the second I get them I will be applying my Xoom to Photoshop CS5.5, I'm almost positive that expirence is going to be a whole other world for me.
But yeah, so now I mostly use mine for watching videos, general web browsing (personally I find it quite pleasurable in that aspect), BS gaming, and, when i travel I bring this and my ps3 with me and use the Xoom to hop on the PSN.
8 hrs of game play on Black Ops (which is all I tested for that duration of time) only uses up too 200 megs, a lot less than I initially thought.

I don't need the extra 16gb and in any case I have an SD card which I can use if needed.
Tab has a PLS screen. Supposed to be better than IPS and way better than the TFT in the xoom.
And as a European user I have more faith in Samsung than Motorola when it comes to updates.

That is just the opposite here in America. Motorola has shown good faith in updates since androids original release.
My girlfriends Samsung Galaxy S Captivate just got Froyo a month ago.

True, though I think the carriers over there played a part in that fiasco. Motorola on the other hand just don't give a **** about Europe. They don't even release most of their phones over here.

I use mine to take to classes for notes and dungeon defender, its also useful to take to the bed for studying

NO USB, NO HDMI ports on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 means no video out and no keyboard/mouse for easier input/navigation.
I really like the fact the Xoom has a true GPS on the WiFi models. That feature seems to be missing from the Acer and Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Video out will be through a proprietary cable, just like the iPad. First i've heard about the gps though. Got a link?

I'm using it more and more....
At home/fun: watching movies, playing angry birds (which at first I had no interest in and now I'm hooked) streaming radio/playing mp3s, surfing the web...
Work: I have two jobs.. a part time IT job, which I use dropbox, logmein, browser, office docs, and GPS.
My other job is in sales... which I use GPS almost every day... dropbox... office docs, mostly excel, and calculator..
While driving I'll either play music or videos... I cover larger distances and don't have satellite radio, so streaming is better then having to keep switching stations plus I get tired of the same music over and over again.
I'm very happy with it... well worth the money.
This weekend I just started to customize it... got a long way to go but I plan to have one screen for each job... and then a couple just for fun stuff.

I use mine a lot. I keep finding more and more uses for it.
Uses:
Just discovered evernote, so looking forward to using that more
Movies/anime
Games - Angry birds, stupid zombies, robodefence
Reading - Bible and others (like "In the Plex")
Browsing and email
Pulse
Taking notes at meetings, then I can just email everyone the word document instead of rewriting it up and then doing so.
GPS, Google maps works really well, and you only need to turn on internet every 30 min or so, as it caches the maps quite far ahead of you.
That's all I can think of at the moment.

Browsing
News stuff (see also browsing)
Email
Twitter
Facebook (to a lesser extent)
Games/Angry Birds
Streaming media - Plex
HDMI connection to TV (see streaming media)
Gallery for viewing photos

I'd probably use RDP when I get a mini server set up at home..
That's about all for now.

Almost everything tbh. For non work related purposes I use it exclusively.

I find that setting webpages as bookmarks on the homescreen improves my browsing experience.
I use the speaker dock from Moto and that sounds great with music player.

[Q] What would make Infuse perfect for me ....

We have two Infuses in the family for all of two months now. While we still have two Iphone4s on the other two lines, we have had Iphones in the family since day 1 eons ago. I have spent considerable time looking to make the Infuse, not perfect, but 'comparable' to the way I've had my JB'd Iphones. I've made quite a bit of progress and I think this is where it ends, at least until GB which may change some things. I'm on Infused 1.6. Here are the remaining 'lacks'.
- Are they any lock screen widgets for the Android? I missed being able to control the music playbook without needing to unlock. I've on more than a few occasions fumbled to mute the music while trying to unlock and get to the app.
- Unlock screen should stay on longer than 1.5 secs. If you don't hit it right away, you'll have to press the power button again.
- Why ask for the unlock p/w again when I just locked it 2 secs ago? The Iphone is smart enough to have a internal timer set so it'll take you right in. I seem to be spending an awful lot of time unlocking my Infuse.
- Where are the Infuse docks? I have a bunch of ipod/iphone speaker/clock/charging docks around the house which I know I can't use but am I relegated to a life of using the phone jack and carrying the a/c charger ? There is the Samsung dock but it's just a pricey charging dock that costs as much as my last Logitech radio/clock/speaker/charger ipod dock.
- This one is more of a complaint; I spent almost $60 on apps alone just to get some decent working apps. With the iphones, there are better quality free apps that gets the job done. The equivalent Android apps just don't work as good as the iphone version, like CNBC stocks, IP Cam amongst others.
- Unbelievable but true, I got more work done with the iphone remote desktop app using the tiny screen compared to Pocketcloud on a much larger Infuse screen. I guess it's just the interface.
- And yes, when ATT was having issues with the cell tower in my area, the Iphones were still working better than the Infuses which couldn't even get any reception or data strengths. And the Iphone wifi strength is better.
- And seriously, I really want a physical home button. Feeling for the un-lit home virtual button is no fun.
- No complaints about the batt life for me, I'm doing ok with lowering the brightness and using Juice Defender.
- lack of a 'reasonably' priced app for syncing calendar, contacts and notes. The good one is priced at $50. I'm currently not even syncing anymore other than the occassional use of myphoneexplorer. Then I have to use Epistle with dropbox to sync my text files for notes. Tacky.
- While it's great to not use itunes, I have to remember to run Titanium backup occasionally.
But I really appreciate:
- the outstanding sound quality
- the really big sharp screen, great for reading and viewing movies
- great camera quality, in daytime
- not having to rely on itunes, copy direct, no format or screen conversion needed
- direct usb connection
- nice to have external sd but so far my current 32gb (16 + 16) matches my 32gb Iphones. The 32gb and 64gb sd cards are priced higher than the cost of the phone.
- tethering is one thing that costs less than with the iphone because it's included in Infused!! And it works great.
- Fantastic size, super slim
NE1 with any thoughts to how to address some of these points and make the Infuse even better for us?

Why not try flashing 2.1.0 of infused? And also get go to 4shared.com and search the app name and put. Apk after it. You said apps aren't that great of quality so just download um from there without paying.

If you do this do us all a favor and not blame the ROM when you catch DroidDream. Seriously - pay for your apps!! Take some time to read reviews then make an educated decision before you whip your wallet out.

Good comparison! I have used an iPhone in the past but will never go back (FU iTunes). It probably makes life easier that I don't have to coexist with any iOS apps at home, so things like google calendar/docs can be my central location for things I need to share between devices, plus I have an always-on htpc that acts as a file/http server for whatever I need.
Docks will always be a point in iOS's favor though, because even with the rising popularity of android as a platform, the dozens of different physical form factors make it harder for third-party manufacturers to create hardware, whereas Apple releases a new shape of phone every year (or more), and even then they're close enough that a lot of iPhone peripherals can operate between the 3G/3GS/4. Just try to make hardware that can accept a Galaxy S, Infuse, Inspire, Atrix, Droid 3, Xperia, etc.
The Infused music player/lockscreen was mentioned but there are many other apps that will add widgets of any kind to your lock screen (widgetlocker is very popular, though I haven't bothered).
The Infuse does give you a few seconds' grace period if the screen turns off automatically before it locks, but I don't really know why you'd not want it to lock immediately if you push the power button. Maybe this is just different phone usage models between us, but aside from accidental pushes (stupid protruding buttons), I can't ever remember a time I've turned the phone off then wanted to unlock it within a few seconds.
I do agree that the lock screen should stay on longer after a push--maybe four or five seconds--but it isn't that big a deal really. It probably saves battery life though: since the stupid power/volume buttons stick out so much, they probably get pushed in my pocket all the time.
I hear a lot of bad things about Infused wifi, but even though I have only 2/3 bars about 20 feet away from my router, I keep one bar throughout my entire house--even up a floor and horizontally 30 yards away from the router. So I guess ymmv depending on how strong a signal you really need.
Not sure what you mean about SD cards--you can get a 32GB microSD card for under $50, and there are no 64GB microSD cards that I've heard of. SDXC is relatively new and allows full-size 64-128GB SD cards but they're still expensive (prohibitively so, if you ask me). If you're just comparing with-contract cost, a 32GB iPhone costs $300, while an infuse is ~$120-$200 depending where you buy it, plus another $20 for a 16GB microSD card to match the total capacity, meaning if you buy cheaply, you can spend less than half as much on an equal-capacity Infuse.
The bottom line for me is really the screen. I pick up someone else's Inspire or iPhone and the screen just kills me. I don't think I can ever go back to an LCD after using Samsung's AMOLED screens. #firstworldproblems

Lockscreen behaviors - Other ROMs have significantly more configuration in terms of lockscreen timeouts available.
Apps - the only non-niche apps I've found a significant urge to buy (and have bought) were TiBu and Tapatalk.
I purchased SetCPU, although probably would not have done so if I'd done a bit more research.
I also purchased Sixaxis Controller to allow pairing of PS3 controllers to my Tab 10.1, and once LB and I fix Cyanogenmod's Bluetooth, my Infuse too.
Nothing like TiBu exists for iOS. Same for SetCPU.
You can't pair PS3 controllers to iOS devices for gaming.
There are media and car docks available for the Infuse, I have the car dock for mine and it's excellent.
Physical home button - blame Apple for focusing on litigating instead of innovating for this one.
$50 for calendar/contacts sync??????? Um, you got MASSIVELY ripped off. The phone has excellent built-in sync capabilities. I sync contacts, calendars, and emails to my Google account 100% free.

Thanks! I forgot I did try widgetlocker back a few months ago. I recall now I wanted to keep my pattern lock and on the shortcuts, it would jump to the app like Mortplayer and then it will stall before it will bring me back to the lock screen. But it'll serve the purpose for now.
The sync solution we have are naturally tied to Google. But I've been syncing to Outlook forever and I want to keep that. Companionlink costs $50.
When I got my 16gb card, it was on sale for $25 but the 32gb card was more than $50. I've got to keep an eye out for a good deal and pass my 16gb card on to the other Infuse.
BTW, one more thing I sorely miss is the news alerts I used to get very frequently. The only setup I have and know of on the android is the CNN app which then just puts a 1 second blip on the status bar. Anyone know of a setup where it will do a pop-up alert?

Your thoughts on Asus Padfone

I feel this is more of a general "lets get your opinion/feel" but ive experienced in the past, any topic that has any question in it, gets moved to this section.. So im posting it here.
I'd like to get people opinions (and experiences if any) on the Asus Padfone. I've been eyeing the HTC Amaze, but there have been a few issues reported with it, and with new tech being released this year, im also considering other devices. The Padfone caught my eye due to its apparent versatility. (Especially since the HTC One series has been a massive letdown with the non-existent mSD card slot)
Though there do seem to be some things lacking with this device, such as the camera (apparently, the HTC one has an independent processor which speeds it up) for example.
Also the fact that its 3g and not 4g/LTE seems to be a step back (tho this isnt an concern for me, but could be later).
Anyway.. Thoughts? Concerns?

I'm considering getting one. I'm from the Netherlands so 3G is just fine for me!
Pricing is rumoured around €699 euro here, pretty steep though... That's without the dock (which will set you back another €150 I bet)
I love the idea of having everything in one place (on your phone) and basically click it into the tablet for typing during class or watching/reading something.
Jam it into the dock for longer writing sessions... I can see this being a very useful combination for me personally. I'm not sure the average user will find this a useful gadget though.
Downside is that you really have to use the phone all the time and I'm not sure how well everything works softwarewise when you load the phone into the dock, screensize wise etc, etc.
Its just that I got a Gnex that I love so dearly

Since the Pf is not in our shores yet and I have been sick and tired of the all the unboxing, first videos from Barcelona, Taiwan specs and availability, I just implore ASUS to get their act together and stop the teasing and give us the US model! Regardless how a bunch of folks have trashed it, I on the other hand WANT ONE NOW. I realize that this desire is sight unseen, performance and quality unknown and not all the specs I listed above are in the model available everywhere else, I believe the concept of 3 in 1 is a brilliant one. I may not be as techie as you folks but for my use and from prelim videos and specs, what ASUS has done is phenomenal.
I would greatly appreciate your more techie input as well as marketing intel (US availaibility, specs, price, carrier, etc.). BTW, I still refuse to buy and do not want any of the tablets available today. Thanks.

It's possible, it depends if the "door" needs to be closed before it will output to the tabdock. Plus, im sure alot said that about flip phones and sliding phone. My Touch Pro 2 is still going pretty strong, and it has a sliding keyboard.
Something id like it know is with the Keyboard dock, is it 'closeable'. As in, can you dock the tablet to it, then "close it" like a laptop so you can transport it as one piece?

very difficult positioning for Asus. They're trying desperately to innovate more that the competition to get a strong foot in that market.
However, this solution might not be fully interesting for a lot of people... If its a failure, they'll have lost a great deal of money that could have been used to make up for the difference with the latest ipad...

If this will be a failure , atleast the price will drop fast ( something like Evo 3d -50% )

Has a LOT of potential if marketed correctly.
I have a original ASUS Transformer TF101 with keyboard dock for eight months now and I can say its an amazing machine. The performance is just right, the battery lasts forever, almost stock ICS, lots of updates.
I have the only combination of devices that can compete with the full Padfone setup: a modern smartphone (Samsung Galaxy Note) and the mentioned Transformer, with full tethering support. If the Padfone system can have a significant price advantage, the consistency it provides (the Note have Android 2.3.6) can make it a winner.

yes the hinge closes like a laptop
problem: the hinge only opens around 90 degrees so you won't get a great viewing angle unless you are at a similar level.
when the latch of the tablet station opens to release the phone, it stops the phone being bent outwards, so you have to pull up and thus, not breaking the connector.
not having 4g is a big downer for me. I was going to get this and might still but seriously, uk is getting 4g this year so I doubt I'd want this when it gets released.

beeecause with a iphone and ipad, your data is in 2 places? So if you edit something on your ipad, you have to take steps to also update it on your iphone.. Plus, itunes.. thats always a disadvantage.

I thought it's no need to take any steps? As long as your iPad is online at home, whatever you do on iPhone outside is automatically synced, as shown in the iCloud launching videos.
199 euro is small, when you compare a screen+ battery, with a fully functioned retina display iPad.

Well, i wont get apple products. If i were to get two devices, both would be android. Im sure it would be similar, but i don't like messing with clouds either, that's just a gimik to eat up your limited "unlimited" data package. Especially when your talking about my case of 400+mb PDF files.
I'm not completely sold on it, but it seems like a good idea, plus ive not yet seen official pricing on it.

[Q] Advice on storage limitations

Hi All
I currently have a HTC Desire Z which I love ..... unfortunately my touchscreen intermittently becomes non-responsive in the middle and a factory reset didn't fix.
As part of a Product Replacement Plan Bell Canada will give me a HTC One S for 150$ ....
The HTC One S looks like a wonderful phone except for one head scratching unbelievable crippling ..... only 10GB of storage and no SD slot.
Unfortunately, this omission makes this phone a big step backwards from my Desire Z. Why? .... because my unlocked Froyo Desire Z with apps already does everything I want it to reasonably quickly and I can store all my music on it because I have a 32GB microSD card in it.
I don't want to spend hours figuring which tracks and photos I want to store locally on the phone. It becomes a nightmare of babysitting. With the Desire Z all I have to do is sync a few tracks here and there as I add them to my PC.
Is there any way to get around this limitation?
I have used Dropbox and the phone comes with 20Gig of Dropbox Storage, but really what good is that for music or even pictures? Is Dropbox so integrated with the OS that it is just like they are local except for a some lag. Otherwise how would I find tracks and play them in the music player. Would PowerAMP be able to catalog them? What about album art, playlists and lyrics? I can't see how any would work gracefully with Dropbox, even if it was integrated, as cataloging the tracks properly would mean accessing 32GB of on-line files, which would take days and cost a fortune.
I have already compressed my music to the minimum acceptable quality in OGG and it barely fits a 32GB card.
I think there already is a microSD card slot present in the HTC OneS ...... has anyone taken a shot at un-crippling it?
If it wasn't for this problem I would be more than happy with this phone, but the crippling seriously affects how I actually currently use my Desire Z.
What could have possibly be going through the designers minds to have a microSD card slot and disable it? I know SD storage is a major pain in Froyo because somewhere in the chain from APP programmer to Google Play market something is messed up because a lot of 3rd party apps cause SD card corruption, but I would have thought that would have got fixed by ICS.
If I wanted a 10GB phone with no expansion I would have bought an Iphone. HTC just removed one of the features that brought me to Android in the first place. I find it hard to believe that SD memory controller chip just wouldn't fit in the case. The only reason I can think of is that HTC wants to go back to the bad old days of renting content by forcing users on line to pay data and rental fees. But that doesn't make sense unless they are desperate to please carriers.
I will probably end up telling Bell to keep this phone unless somebody here has some advice or workaround.
The Samsung Galaxy IIIS might be an option but I am shy on Samsung because they used to be the worst cripplers. I had a Samsung SGH255 that wouldn't even let me set a jpg picture as a background unless the picture was taken with the phone it was so locked down. Those were the bad old days and I see removing SD storage as the first step back to those days.

Widrive is my solution. I keep almost everything backed on there.

It wouldn't bother me if the One S had half the storage it has. For me a phone with 150gbs of storage wouldn't be enough to house my music collection, and even if such a device were available and affordable there's no way I'd load all my library onto my phone.
That's what playlists are for.
In my case, my music, video, photo collection etc is on my NAS, and distributed around my network regardless of the rendering device, music station, tv, phone, MP3 player, etc. All I ask of my phone (or any device I want to play any media) is the ability to join my network and a client. I always have more than one or two of my many playlists stored locally for when I'm out and about, but if I'm pottering in the garden I can stream any playlist, album, whatever, whenever. It's easy, fast and it works. My music files stay safe, backed up and RAID 1 protected, my phone stays uncluttered.
It doesn't have to be NAS of course, it could an ordinary PC, the point is the mindset. A requirement for local storage will always end up in disappointment because your OGG and FLAC collections will always grow much faster than your ability to pay for devices with increase storage capacities with which to cope with them.
If you insist on vast amounts of local storage, good luck. But perhaps the HOS is not for you. I would instead save your money buy a cheap phone and spend the difference on a separate MP3 player.

I am surprised people can't understand how luxurious my HTC Desire Z with PowerAMP is/was for music and why I don't want to give it up.
1) When all your music sits on a microSD card there is no maintenance of your mobile music whatsoever except to copy a new tracks over from your PC once and a while. No syncing, no copying files back and forth. There is no work and who wants more work. I don't want to have to babysit my music or sync new tracks in the morning trying to guess what I might want to listen to during the day.
2) Music choice becomes spontaneous when you have it all with you. I just pick up my Desire Z open Power AMP and all my music is already cataloged with album art. It takes 30sec to make a short playlist suited exactly to the mood I am in. Every time it is a new listening experience exactly tailored to my mood.
3) I have a home music system ..... my Desire Z is for playing music everywhere else. When your files are cataloged and local you can play them anywhere regardless of data usage or cell reception, even when you need to turn off data because of roaming charges.
4) 32GB cards are fairly cheap and 64GB and even 128GB cards are becoming available. Nothing on-line can even remotely compete with the speed and accessibility of them.
5) A dedicated music player is a waste of money for me because when I want it I probably won't have it because I don't want to lug it around. I lug a cell phone around because it is a necessary evil and it is very nice to automatically have a really good music player along for the ride.
If I could load up all my music to Dropbox and be able to seamlessly catalog and access it with PowerAMP just like the music was on a microSD card I would probably pay for 100GB of storage and be done with it. But as far as I can tell there is no on-line storage that can do this.
I wouldn't even consider this phone but it is the phone Bell wants to give to me as a replacement for my Desire Z. Before I fight with them I would really like to have HTC One S work for me because other than the limited storage it suits me just fine but alas there doesn't seem to be any solution.

Well looks like your getting a different phone then. I have 42 mp3 albums on my phone which I change when I'm bored with what's on it. Now taken into consideration that each album has 12 tracks (average) and run for 4 minutes each that's 33.6 hours of continuous music. Please explain to me why you could possibly need any more than that? Not to mention the extra workload with so many files.
Oh and I have ALOT on my sdcard but still have 2.5gb free. I think you need to understand that your buying a phone not a mass storage device to hold all your sh*t on. This phone is in my opinion outstanding, certainly the best phone I have ever owned and so what if it doesn't have an sd slot? It stills beats the snot out of most other phones on the market.

You make all the antediluvian arguments for having a separate music player then say you don't want to lug one round.
Take the HOS from your network provider sell it and buy another desire or somesuch. I'm not sure you are ready for this phone.

I actually got my HTC One S in the mail.
Its beautifully designed and almost a work of art. For everything other than music it is a great phone. Yes it is fast and smooth but it really doesn't do anything that my Desire Z couldn't do with apps. ICS and Sense is getting pretty bloaty too.
For music it is utterly horribly crippled. How can HTC sell a music oriented phone and only give it 10GB storage? They make a phone that actually has a good audio quality and then they make it inferior to 2 year old technology by forcing you to synch files.
Does anyone actually like syncing files? It is a horrible waste of time and energy and there is always a good chance you won't have the song you want to listen to with you. When you have your whole collection with you all the time, you just scratch your head and wonder how you could have ever synched files.
HTC Desire Z with a microSD card - reach into your pocket and queue up the songs you feel like playing .... Done
HTC One S - wake up and try to remember to sych songs you think you might like to play, wait wait wait ... Error the tracks won't fit .... search through to find the files you wanted but must leave behind..... try syching again ...... leave for work. Later, reach into your pocket, but your mood isn't the same and you are missing what you would like to hear. Then you try to remember what you actually have on the device ..... then you give up and just pick something second best (or 3rd) because it happens to be there. Repeat 2-3 times a day.
I don't think the two experiences are even remotely similar. Wouldn't you rather just reach into your pocket and play what you want to hear? ...... that is 2 year old tech already mature and working and now there are 128GB cards so even a huge collection could be sampled down in OGG and it would fit.
For music nothing can come close to local storage, until data is unlimited and on-line files can be cataloged locally and transparently on the phone.
Can anyone really say they like leaving 1/2 their collection at home? There is no need to as long as a phone has a microSD slot. Even a cheap 32GB card is big enough because OGG is more than good enough for phone hardware.
The point of all this: an microSD slot is an essential aspect of Android .... no phone should be without one, especially one where they bothered to put Beats Audio on it. I switched to Android almost for that alone.

I don't understand your problem...But I know that 10gb is really not enough. So I suggest you to buy samsung galaxy s2/3, or htc one x+ or Iphone.

Why in the hell would you switch from unlimited to 6GB? You do realize that higher phones will pull more data, higher quality video streams, and so on right? What used to be 4GB on the TB will turn into 8GB on the DNA or other similar phones.
Anyway I bought the DNA and gave it a trial run, found out it really wasnt for me and didnt suit my needs so I'm back on the TB. The only thing I want in a new phone is a bigger screen now. The TB fills every other category on my wish list perfectly.

At this point I'm probably going to wait until I really see something I like come out. The Droid DNA had a lot of potential, but it's major shortfalls (16GB only, no uSD slot, non-removable battery) are hard to ignore. It's tough to justify the GS3 now that it's already 6 months old, so I think I'm going to wait and see what 2013 brings to the table. While I'm fine with the large phone size (although I think phablets like the Note are too large), I do wish one of the big Android manufacturers would put out a top tier phone in a smaller form factor. There's no way my wife could comfortably use the DNA or GS3 (the Tbolt is about her hand's limit), but it seems there's no top tier phone in the low 4" sizes anymore.

Why would you want 64GB? Isnt that like 30,000 songs? At least 100 movies? Half the apps in the app store? You should probably get over your memory requirements since removable batteries and stuff are a thing of the past. Phones are moving into the cloud, designed for wireless charging, ultra light weight and portability. To achieve this you need to be able to just cram everything in there any way you can, which makes it less likely for access.

I was once asked why anyone would want 1MB (yes megabyte) of RAM in a computer. The "cloud" is finicky, not always available, and not to be trusted if you care anything about privacy. Memory is cheap and light. ($42 retail less than 1g for my 64GB). I'm willing to bet the trend toward no removable battery or memory is money (i.e. cost of manufacture and support) not ability of the designers to execute. The trends seems to be LARGER phones (bigger screens bigger batteries).

Buy a used phone and keep your unlimited data. eBay, swappa, etc. I've bought my wife and I each a galaxy nexus for around $220 each. You won't regret it.

Me, too. I just got a Lenovo A1107 for $120 (as a carputer) and have a 10.1" Samsung Tablet for around the house. The Bolt can stay as a telephone and mobile hotspot.
Verizon sucks, though.

You knew 1MB would never suffice for a computer because you could foresee the advancements in technology requiring more space in the future. So what advancements do you see in cell-phone technology requiring 64gb, 128gb, screw it a full terabyte if storage? You might as well tell me that I'm foolish for feeling 160mph is fast enough in my car, because one day we might all be cruising at 250mph through the neighborhood. Movies arent getting any longer, songs are getting any bigger. There is no practical reason for a feature length film to be more than a couple of gigabytes since the screen size will always be less than 7".
It is precisely because phones are getting bigger that the engineering involved is getting more difficult. Special considerations have to be made when designing a battery that can be removed. It is MUCH easier for a designer if he doesnt have to worry about this. Imagine if cell-phone had removable 4G chips, video processors and ram. Do you really think the design could still be kept as portable as something like the Iphone, DNA, or SGS3? Of course not, you'd end up with a phone as big as a laptop trying to accommodate this.

Bad assumption, straw man and non sequitur
I had no special knowledge for what computer memory would be used. I only know, looking BACK at computer technology, that EVERY time someone has suggested “No one will ever need more than _____” we blew right past that without a pause. People are pretty clever in using all of a given resource. For myself I am just under 32GB used on my SD right now so 64GB I don’t have to worry about filling given my current usage model. (Which is why I stated that I could live with a 64GB fixed memory phone?) Even so 128GB devices are practically a given and 1TB is not much of a stretch. This trend will probably continue until we can fit no more into 1cm^2. What will use all of this storage? I don’t know. People are very clever in using all of a given resource however.
Does online storage and fast wireless mitigate the need for large local storage? Yes. Does it fully replace the need? No. Are data caps and overage charges making replacing local storage harder? Probably.
As for video I think your assumption of 7” is incorrect. Phones already have outputs (HDMI or the like) to drive large screens. What will those screens be in the future in size and frame rate be? HD, 2K 4K 8K? 24,30,48,60 FPS? I fully expect video files to grow.
Audio – I don’t see it changing much but perhaps bandwidth and storage will favor lossless CODECs.
Your car analogy is weak. Automobiles already operate close to the human ability to perform in many areas, portable devices… not so much. I would like to go 800 miles on a tank of gas.
I really disagree with you regarding designing for bigger vs smaller phones. A larger phone, dominated by say the display should offer more opportunity to fit things in. Of course if the wider and taller phone actually has less volume than previous phones then it would be more challenging and if it has to weigh less even with a larger volume then it may be really tough. Removable storage and batteries ARE harder to design as I said before and I fully understand that the extra cost of design and manufacture of removable storage and batteries favors the design of non-removable storage and batteries. No one mentioned changing SOC or coms or radios but that is another straw man.

The key word here is "right now."
Right now 64 GB might seem like a top end tier for mobile storage. But the DNA is 1080p resolution with more phones to likely follow suit. The files will be larger, and data consumption will increase.
Carrier networks are no longer in the unlimited era. Caps, throttling, and insanely annoying persistent wifi alerts rule the day. If carriers insist on treating network bandwidth like gold from Ft. Knox, then I'm going to want to carry more, and cloud less.
16 gigs of storage becomes 11 after OS and bloat. 11 gigs is pretty pedestrian on a device that can hold apps, movies, and songs. How long have we had iPods with more than 11 gigs in storage?
SGS 3 had it right. So does the Note 2. If I want locked down drudgery I'd buy an iPhone.
I love HTC, but they need to get somebody else making decisions over there. Carrier exclusive phones? Fail. No SD Card or removable battery? Sigh.
I'm considering a Nexus 4, but that's only because it has budget pricing, and I can use it with pre-paid service. (Read: I'm cheap)

25.6GB of audio
1.1G of nandroids (each about 1Gig)
2G Ti backups, app data, app cache and system stuff
I could live with 32GB if I had to for a while at least.

If you have a few Roms you like and have nandroids of, they're almost a gig a piece.
I hate how new phones are stopping at 16 gigs with no sd slot. It's not enough memory for me, nandroids and app backups are necessary and use a lot of space.

I'm the last person I ever thought would be advocating for less storage space. Believe me I'm with you when it comes to the ignorance of people who always thought ABC/XYZ was enough. I guess a better way to justify the design of something like the Droid DNA is that it at least gets the job done. I watch tons of movies, listen to tons of music, and keep my phone docked in a cradle on my desk to surf at work all day long. I just found alternatives to storage limitation that just so happen to be the direction the industry is trying to push us in. I recognized that I dont need to have 10 movies on my device at any given moment because it's not like I'll ever really be watching them. At least not often enough to justify a need for storage to keep them. I uploaded my entire song library to Google Play which was a huge boon because now I have it with me on any device anywhere I go. I dont keep more than 1 nandroid of my device because my previous build is the only thing worth keeping. When I flash a new rom I simply keep a failsafe, and I only store about 2-3 roms on my device as redundant failsafes for each other in the event things really go sour or I just get really bored.
If this is the tradeoff necessary to have a beautiful 5" display with wireless charging and weighs light as a feather, then I consider this a win. If the alternative is a larger, heavier, more expensive phone to accommodate the best of both worlds (tons of storage and tons of power) then I consider that a loss. I will gladly take form over function since the function can be made up for in other areas that actually add quite a bit of newfound convenience. To me, this whole idea of clinging to old phone standards of sd-cards and removable batteries is just oldschool thinking. It reminds me of the business tycoon still using his monochrome blackberry thinking he's the ****, and that all these kids just dont "get it" with their fancy colors and lack of technical needs. Or the supposedly tech savvy laptop pro who buys the heaviest most impossible to carry device with a 17" screen, optical disc drive, and 10 USB ports for that 1 time he actually needs it. Everything you use your storage for is just for an emergency. 25gb of music, multiple nandroids, etc. They're all just "what if" scenarios that probably see the light of day once every few months. Sacrificing the entire build of a phone for this off-chance scenario is just very backwards thinking imo.

You dont have to believe me but the dna gets excellent battery life for a phone with a 1080p and the lack of an sd card is irrelevant since it is otg capable meaning an external hard drive can be used. The sad part is that a new one x phone is right around the corner.
