NFC question - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

can the Nexus s nfc funtion be used for more than just google wallet? what if say my gym card has a nfc chip in it and that's what i need to get into my gym....is there a way it can read, store and transmit that data so i don't have to carry the card around?
i leave the damn card in my one of my cars and i drive different cars or my motorcycle to work and don't notice the card isn't in the car until it's too late.
thanks for the info and sorry if this has been asked before, i google searched but didn't come up with much.

Hi,DualSportDad
did you get your phone wornkig as the gym card?
I was looking for the same, but i dont know how!
my phne detects the card, but i dont know how can i make the gym scaner detect the phone as my card...
(sorry my english)
regards

My understanding is that emulation is disabled in the NFC stack so people CAN'T use their phone to clone security passes. This is being done by design.

I thought it was possible:/ i read a review of this app here: "play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pocketluxus.nfclassic&feature=also_installed" where some guy said he was able to use his phone as his University ID card for printing and building access. i don't have an nfc card to try.. Maybe he was BSing?

Phone Security/Encryption/Protection against loss or theft?

Hi guys, im fairly new to the WM scene, but have finally customized my Xperia X1 to be just how I want it.
This brings me to this question about security.
At the moment what worries me, is if I lose my phone or someone steals it. They would have access to all my information, my contacts, my software, my emails, passwords and other such personal information that I would rather not give out. Obviously the safest solution would be to leave it in the house, but that's something none of us want to do!
Now I was thinking about encrypting the Internal memory and the memory card so that the files could not be hacked or looked at by prying eyes when connected to a computer for instance. But I couldn't seem to find any software which would do such a thing. I currently use TrueCrypt on my PC which stops nearly everything.
What I really want to do is the following:
1. Password the device.
2. Encrypt it, so that the files cannot be taken off or read.
3. Automatic password lock after 1 minute.
4. Stop files being accessed through a PC (by others of course but not myself).
5. Any other methods people could access the phone with a computer, flashing and such tools to get into them.
I know the memory card has encryption to stop anything other than the device reading the card. But this doesn't work on mine for some reason as I can plonk the card in a reader and get access to all my files in various computers I have tried.
I realize it will never be truly secure but let's be honest. The average thief wouldn't exactly know how to hack into a phone and access it's files.
Now im not fussed if say for instance it was stolen, the thief flashed the phone and used it for themselves. At the end of the day, they've got the phone, wether they are using it or not isn't going to make a difference, but making sure they can't access the files is a top priority.
One of the main programs I worry about is these "Wallet" programs that you can get. They are very handy for storing all your card details and such on, but are they truly safe? That is what I wonder.
Any replies would be really appreciated as I always worry about losing my phone at the moment due to it having no protection!
Are there any suggestions anyone can make to me?
Anyone got an opinons on this? I was hoping for a reply.
Hi vmrmic,
I know that Check Point has a encryption solution for Windows mobile since I work there
http://www.checkpoint.com/products/datasecurity/mobile/index.html
Check supported devices:
www.checkpoint.com/supportedhandhelds
X1 is not up there but it works fine. I have tried it. Officially supported in a couple of weeks
Note that this solution is intended for business and not a one by one installation
If you have more questions find the forum on checkpoint.com since I don't always check this forums.
Regards
Check out Throttle Lock http://www.throttlelauncher.com/portal/
Not every thing your asking for but a great solution

Is NFC Card Emulation of work ID cards now possible?

I've had a quick search around the forums and a bit more of a thorough search of the internet at large, but I can't seem to find an answer to my question.
With the new KitKat NFC policies etc., will it now to possible to [finally] emulate my work ID card with my phone. It would be ridiculously useful to be able to swipe my phone on the key card scanner, for example, if I forgot my card at home.
I am aware that there are security issues here, because we can't just have anyone going around, copying key cards with their phones etc.
Thanks,
Adzrules
I'd love to do that do unfortunately my badge uses thousand bit encryption so i dunno if that would work.
Such a thing will never be possible - that flies in the very face of the security the RFID badges are designed to have in place to begin with. Imagine how messed up things would be if you could go to work, with your NFC enabled phone, and casually brush past a co-worker and just clone their RFID badge in a second flat and then do things using their identity with respect to the company security.
It's never going to be that easy as life isn't a TV show like "Person of Interest" where you can clone a smartphone's identity/IMEI/etc from 30 yards away just by running some uber-hack app.
It might be possible to have such an identity programmed into the phone by your employer but it would end up being a totally new one since the cryptographic data contained on the actual RFID badge is a one-shot and can't be duplicated. That would end up being more trouble for the company, I'd say, and not likely to end up being an SOP anytime soon, it's just too risky for them.

Loss of existing SIM card signal seconds after boot-up.

Hi,
Never thought my first post may be informative but I want to share the events as it may help others.
I'm new to smart phones (first one Elephone P3000s) last phone I had was a Nokia 3310s and I had that for a long time!
I know, so this piece of electronic communication wonder in my hand is quite the thing and has me wide eyed and legless at times.
Yesterday I was updating contacts and generally doing some housekeeping on my new smart phone. I also wanted to create more room on my sd card so moved MapFactor: GPS Navigation data from SD card to main phone storage, using the apps built in option to do this.
I then deleted the folder on the sd card.
Later after lots of playing about, what "She who makes lumpy custard" describes 'housekeeping' as. I noticed that I had the red symbol where my cell phone signal is normally expressed.
My first though was oh no what's wrong with this phone. What followed was search after search but everything I found related to particular phone makers and models but I didn't find anything that was more generic to my issue. Bed called and the search continued this morning but to no avail.
I then decided to reverse everything I'd done as I do remember seeing something somewhere that mentioned navigation as a possible cause. I uninstalled MapFactor: GPS Navigation, still my cell signal would appear as good then fail after 10 seconds or so.
OK reinstall MapFactor: GPS Navigation, still the same as above, so I decided to move MapFactor: GPS Navigation data back over to the sd card.
Did that and low and behold I have my cell signal back and it's been stable all day so far.
I have no idea why this issue exists or if I'll ever be able to move the data back to phone storage, that's an experiment for later.
If anyone can throw some light on this I'd be interested to know. If I can provide anything to assist just ask.
I hope this may help someone else recover from a loss of SIM card and remind everyone that we the "Human Elephant" are more likely to be the cause of these fine pieces of engineering failing than the fine pieces of engineering themselves.
If this post is deemed, by a higher authority, to be better placed elsewhere feel free.
If anyone is helped by this, bless you and don't forget to thank me, it'll probably be the one and only assistance I'm able to offer as there are many younger and brighter lights burning in these forums than this old candle.

lgl164vl unlock factory reset protection i am asking how to do it

i purchased this phone lgl164vl from a person i cannot get a hold of anymore and did factory reset now i cannot use it because i donot know old google account. how can i make this phone useable for me?
Factory reset without Google account
I will attempt to give ya advice on this. I have just recently purchased this device too lgl164vl, ie fiesta 2 lte, and from it's quick start guide I will be quoting from it says...
Under anti-theft guide
add your google account on your device
"After your device is protected, you'll need to either unlock or enter your Google account password if you need to do a factory reset. This ensures that you or someone you trust is doing the reset."
(Note) "DO NOT forget your Google account and password you had added to your device prior to performing a factory reset. If you can't provide the account information during the setup.process, you won't be able to use the device AT ALL after performing the factory reset."
Really sorry to give you such troubling news, and let's hope the screen lock and account wasn't set up for anti theft by previous owner, for if the anti theft was activated and you can't get ahold of the original owner I'm afraid you have been screwed. For everything is saved to Google's cloud on that one account it was setup with, and as far as I'm aware, at least until a custom recovery is made for this device, it's more or less bricked (as you can't use it.)
Hopefully this isn't the case and perhaps it's a network issue on which I have no advice.
thanks for the reply

maybe some one might come up with something i hope. is there anything that could be put on sd card then put sd card in phone and when phone is turned on sd card takes control? by putting some type of application on phone to take care of this
lol, good one
these tracfone things are really tight; they don't want you to keep using it without the tracfone service, like if you root it to switch to some other service
pretty much a throwaway or you might be able to use it without phone, just wifi
sorry no info; i was hoping for more info myself.
.
I'm trying to discover if the sd card can be configured as internal storage or not. Some providers disable this feature. The system says 'the card SHOULD be used as portable storage' and does not give the option to use it as internal storage (so I can expand my download capacity for pandora).
So, hopefully I can get an answer here: can I buy a faster card that the phone will be able to use as internal storage or is it really locked out regardless? I don't want to waste money on a card I don't need.
How fast should the card be? What rating? I believe it is at least class 10. (it is UHS-I/U3 Class 10)
Is it possible to 'force' the phone to use it as internal storage using ADB? (i read about this somewhere)
if so, please howto, thanks
{figured no need for new thread, don't expect it to work out, stupid tracfones, lol} ... i can do a new thread if you think i should, if there is positive info, thanks
update:
i managed to get the 'auto-install sdcard internal' program to work.. aftiss (https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/auto-formatting-sdcard-to-internal-t3583875)
seems to be doing ok so far; i migrated the data over to the sd card, it says it will start using the sd card as default app data and storage/downloads etc. But it did not say it uses the sdcard for app binaries.
The goal for me here is to get Pandora to use the sdcard to download the music with the Prime subscription for offline play, as I have tracfone and not an unlimited data plan.
It seems like it should work just fine, as music is not nearly as demanding as video, less bandwidth, about 192kBps, i think. (or maybe small b? yes, small b, like Kbps). So, really even an older sdcard should be able to do it.
With the premium (not prime) service from pandora you get your 4 most listened to channels downloaded automatically. The difference is $5/month vs $10/month.
The Prime lets you do playlists and individual songs. You have a 'my music' button to add to your offline cache. I suppose there is an automatic download as well. They say they will leave 500mb free at all times.
I suppose it may be inappropriate to talk about a pay service here, idk.

Hey were you still running that LG phone really well?
I have a friend with one and I am trying to help him keep it up to date without rooting until later this year.

i wound up ditching Pandora, sometimes a song will play with choppy sound, like cylon music, unacceptable
i reset the phone to factory specs and it works fine. It had a problem charging with the modifications. I tried a few different launchers and always had problems. It seems like it may have some protection against modifications, even as simple as using an alternative launcher. Even with the phone turned off it wouldn't charge.
However, I did discover the charger I was using has connection problems, or maybe the phone does. It is doing ok right now using a cable direct to computer.
The information I found regarding using the memory card as extended internal storage for apps is that Android no longer enables that option because it is unreliable. Perhaps it uses too much energy, i do not know. So, I'm going with stock for now. I disable all the google stuff I can and use f-droid, mainly.
It is a 'good' phone, but I'm still probably going to get a new one when the activation time runs out, rather than paying for another year of service. Possibly one could go month to month till a new phone is issued that is good enough to justify an upgrade. But even a new one of these is cheaper than another year of service and minutes.
How do you root the lgl164vl 7.0 ? Can it be done with no pc? I tried kingo root but stops at 90%
nope, it is trash; don't bother

QUESTION

Hi, I'm trying to enter password via NFC.
Here is the story.
The building which I live has rfid keys for entering doors like this also we can enter with password too. The Password thing is become hard sometimes, especially while carrying something.
I've simulated some cards via NFC but phone's nfc doesn't see the RFID cards for simulating. I think if I send the pass via NFC that could work. The pass system like **password. It shouldn't be hard but no idea how to do.
I'ill be glad if you guide me
