Hi all,
I recently updated to Cybergrmod's v10 (fixed) ROM from v9 and have encountered a really annoying issue:
After updating to v10 the feature to long press the volume keys to change tracks no longer works for PowerAMP. If I long press the volume rocker the volume does not increase/decrease, but it does not change the track either.
Additionally, the ICS lockscreen (NOT the full PowerAMP lockscreen) track change and pause buttons do not work either, so I suspect that this is a linked issue.
Interestingly, the volume key track controls do work for the default music player, but I've been spoiled by PowerAMP's eq and other features, so I'm really hesitant to change players.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
p.s. I apologize if this has already been answered elsewhere or if this is the wrong section to post in, but I did try searching for a solution first.
Poweramp has worked fine for me on aokp. Maybe just try uninstalling and reinstalling Poweramp or you could try clearing its data first.

After re-installing it I think I figured out what was causing the problem: it seems that if the "respond to headset" button is not checked the volume key long press track change feature will not work.
I must have unchecked it when I was fiddling around with the settings. But anyways, if anybody else has this problem I think that this will resolve it.
Thanks for the reply

Hello all. I was perusing the nexus s and nexus s 4g forums and was interested when I came upon their oxygen rom. It offers the ability to skip songs with the volume rocker. Is anyone willing to try and get this working for gummy? I am willing to donate to anyone willing to try. It would also be cool if we could get music controls on the lock screen. Thanks to all the hard working devs and themers.
The first one would be possible for one of the devs to do. The second would require a whole new lockscreen & lots of coding, plus all of the themes would have to be updated with the new stuff.

Agile Lock + PowerAMP = music controls on the lockscreen. They just updated Agile so you can now disable your lockscreen without disabling your power button menu but it's a little glitchy, the dev does promise to release a new version every week as he is still trying to fix it up.
Also, why would you want the volume rocker to skip songs? I would prefer the volume rocker to control volume and use the search/back keys to skip through songs, just me though.

On the Droid 1 roms I used that had volume button music controls you had to hold the volume key to skip but a single press would still adjust volume. Both functions were available with the same buttons.

That's pretty cool, hope it can be done! I usually have PowerAMP set to shuffle my 100+ song playlist and sometimes I get to that song I'm just not in the mood to hear and it would be nice to skip it with a simple hold of the power button.

Yutz-exactly what I'm hoping somebody will look into. Blarrick-I have over 2000 songs I shuffle through. I need a quick way to skip.

It's my understanding that this is a function of ASOP ROMs. Seeing as none have been released yet, I don't think that this is an available option yet.

Thank you for your response. Will the charge ever get a pure ASOP rom?
There is development happening now. No ETA on releases (there never is), but it may be a while.
I realize this might not be exactly what you are looking for, but PlayerPro can partially do what you want.
It can change the volume up and down to be used to skip songs. However, that will be their only function when it is playing, as they will no longer be able to adjust volume.
Also, while it can't put music controls on an existing lockscreen, it has its own that can be configured with AOSP like sliders. It will show album art and play/next/prev controls on its lockscreen.
I listen to music on my phone all the time and I really like how the stock music player responds to the headphone control. I'm using my old HTC headphones which have three buttons, and the default settings (actually there's no settings in the stock player for headphone control) is that the two buttons on the sides serve as volume button and the middle button serve as play/pause/next button. I love this because I don't need to reach in my pocket to change the volume or song and it kinda saves the hardware keys.
But I noticed a problem later: All three buttons work when the screen is on or just turned off (either manually or automatically), but the center button (play/pause/next) stops working after a while. The volume buttons are fine. I also noticed that if I double clicked to change the song, the music would just stop, but if I just turned on the screen, it started playing again (next song). So this is what I thought: the buttons sent the signal, the music player got it, but it couldn't do anything because the phone was "sleeping" after being turned off for a while.
Today I found this little app called "Headset Button Controller", which is basically a settings app for headphone control. It solved the problem perfectly! It probably works its way around the phone's power management. Idk. Here is the link to market: [damn I can't post it, you need to search it on your own] I'm on stock 2.3.5 and have used the stock Samsung headphones to re-show the problem and found out it's not my HTC headphones' fault. I believe there're more people in the same situation and thank god I finally find a way to solve it! Happy sharing!
Thanks would give this a try. Double click never work for me

Good find. I have run across more than a few with this issue

Morning everyone,
I've asked something like this before, but never got an answer seeing as, at the time, this device was a fledgling in the custom ROM world. Now that we've got so many different flavors and features, I'll post my query again.
With the CM10 ROM, we can now use our volume rocker as music control when the screen is off. That was a key selling point to me, seeing as its easier for me to just press my pocket than to pull the phone (with Otterbox Defender) and change the track on-screen. One thing that I dislike about it, however, is the broken wi-fi hotspot and tethering, along with a few other things that aren't functioning. I've scoured the interweb trying to find out what files I would need to pull and how to compile them into an existing non-CM ROM so that I could have the full functionality of the ROM with the added bonus of the Volume Rocker Controls.
Would someone be able to point me in the right direction so I could hop on this? I'd think that the community would like a little .zip package to make this function with all ROMs, if it's even doable.
Thanks for reading.
i had tried my hand at this before, but couldnt find a way to remap volume keys to change tracks.. yet.. but what i did was remapped my volume keys to wake the screen when its locked... and let my camera hard key to skip tracks.. its quite handy when u want to just skip to the next track..
it involves compiling and decompiling the android.policy.jar, so if youre interested i can help you out..
also before all this, theres one app which worked fine on my A2, Tactile Player, it can skip songs both ways and also play/pause the songs via the power key.
it works fine, but theres always this icon in the status bar when the app is on.. you can double press the volume keys, up key for next and down key for previous.. its definitely worth trying.. you can find the app in Playstore, i was using the free version..
Edit: The paid version lets you get rid of the status bar notification and also adds a widget to the homescreen to toggle the app on/off.
HI all. I recently started using Poweramp. I am on the Embryo ROM.
I believe PowerAmp is supposed to have capability to allow for using the volume keys to skip songs on a long press when the screen is off / in lockscreen mode.
I see settings that sound like they relate to this in PowerAmp (under headset settings, not lockscreen) and I see settings that seem to relate to this in ROM Customizer on Embryo.
Ive tried tweaking a bunch of them but I cant figure out how to get this to work, and what combination of settings, in the app and/or ROM, will activate this function. I get the lockscreen mode to work where, when I wake the device, it shows PowerAmp controls as the lockscreen, but no success with the volume key skip.
Any advice would be very appreciated.
Hi, the volume buttons on my galaxy s7 with a slight press go all the way up or down. Has anyone had a similar issue? I've tested different players and it's present on all of them, so it's not a specific app related issue. Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks

Does it happen with normal system / ringtone / media volume too?
Nope, just with media volume. When playing audio/video.
So doesn't sound like a hardware fault then, try clearing cache from recovery
Make sure you don't have any apps installed that might be interfering with the volume button functions
Final resort backup and factory reset
solved
I had a system process stopped, restored and now it is ok, thanks.
