Samsung Galaxy S port for our HTC Desire[packages inside!]

As topic says would a port of de galaxy S rom be possbile for the desire, or is the hardware too different?

Instructions:
If you don't have Froyo installed, take a look at Requirements. Paul was so nice to provide us with a rooted/deodexed Froyo build.
1. Place touchwiz-signed.zip on your SDCard
2. Reboot in Recovery
3. Flash it
4. Reboot!
You're done, don't worry first boot will take some minutes because it has to odex everything again since the framework changed. After you entered your PIN you can chose between your regular launcher and the TWLauncher.

Dont think Samsung would use a TI-chip...

Since Samsung bakes its own chips, it would be suprising that they would use a TI. Its the Hummingbird they use, indeed a Cortex A8.

No, iPhone 4 uses a Cortex A4

Even more confusingly, the Apple A4 is allegedly pretty much *exactly* the same chip as the Samsung S5PC110A01 in the Galaxy S.
The reason is the Samsung chip was designed by Intrinsity in collaboration with Samsung, and Apple later bought Intrinsity (see here for more details).

can those be ripped from the galaxy s rom?

I certainly would love a port of the Rom if it is possible.

I have a borrowed a galaxy s for the weekend. Is there any chance the galaxy's videoplayer could be "ported" to the Desire? (This videoplayer plays divx/xvid/mkv up to 720p with ac3 audio!)
I know mkv might not work, but divx should!
So far i have extracted these files that could be useful:
VideoPlayer.apk
VideoPlayer.odex
Divx.odex
Of course the apk wont install just like that...
Any ideas (both the Desire and the Galaxy S are rooted btw)

Did anyone get this working? I tried it on defrost .4 and modacos r 19 but I get stuck on HTC screen

This is getting pretty interesting.
I hope we could get some usefull things from Galaxy S and Droid X!

got it to work, remove boot.img from zip and update-script
/meta-inf/com-blahblah/update-script/
just edit out the boot.img part save and flash!

[DEV] Kernel Editing/HTC PUCCINI ROM DEVELOPMENT

UPDATE, LOOKS LIKE IT'S GOING TO BE (ALMOST) IMPOSSIBLE TO PORT ENTIRE ROM, LOOKING INTO BITS AND PIECES THAT CAN BE PULLED.

My progress. My kernel won't boot. I changed the bootclasspath and added some things to the init.rc, but it won't work, rebooting BEFORE THE CAMERA CLICK. If i flash clemsyn 3.1 v18 on top, the camera clicks, but it still reboots.
No logcat.
Anyone have any ideas? obviously it's not just the kernel, but the rom. I deleted stuff from the rom to fit onto the transformer, and hopefully I didn't mess it up. But i'm good at cramming **** onto the G1 and generally know what to use.
My kernel is based on prime 1.6. This is a 3.1 rom. I edited the bootclasspath and changed default.prop according to the puccini boot.img. both extracted perfectly, and my new kernel packaged up all nice. It, however, does not boot.
Any ideas are welcome. There wasn't a bootloader update in 3.2 or something that would prevent booting a 3.1 rom? food for thought.
If anyone wants me to upload my work so far, let me know.

p.s. the only part I wasn't sure about was the mkbootimg options, based on what RaYmaN said in another thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1121379 I followed his advice to omit cmdline option. I think that's the correct way, anyone else interpret differently?
Rayman's tools were the heart of this effort, thanks a bunch. Also to Roach2010 for a solid 3.1 base.

Isn't HTC using a Qualcomm soc? That could mean they are using a different instruction set which cause the reboot.
could be the reason why they got it booting on the flyer and we don't have success on tegra devices
Let's see if someone else with a tegra device is successful and gets it booting.
Edit: sometimes I should read more carefully. If your kernel doesn't boot there is something really strange going on. Can't you flash stock 3.1, replace the boot loader and try your port again?

Yup. Although if you swap the surfaceflinger to a Tegra2 generic one, it *should* work.
I'm sure that the kernel will NEVER boot on our device, as it's for Qualcomm platform, not Tegra2. But the ROM itself worth playing around, mostly if we can get the nice Launcher with themes.

yes, you could swap the flinger, but you still have the problem of everything else,
the point of that was not that just this one binary, but the whole rom, that also means the launcher and everything use NEON.
Also the kernel not running is a given, that is hw specific. My point is the ROM itself will not run

Isn't there a sense port that's partially functional on galaxy s devices? If so, then this is entirely possible with hours of dev work done on it to me, the only issue I see is the NEON problem, if that gets a work around the problems are the same problems involved in any port to any device, this is the coolest idea I've seen for my tf, I'll be watching development closely

Might be worth trying the new hc update leak for the htc flyer. The hardware on the flyer isn't too much different other than processor so might be easier.

Having a different processor can mean COMPLETELY different sets of features supported by the processor. A lot of HTC's additional software (Sense and such) runs hand in hand with processor features as well as specific hooks into the kernel and frameworks that will not work unless on hardware capable of supporting it (among other things). Hence, why 99.9% of all Sense ports have failed in the past.

This all sounds like a wicked idea to me! Keep up the good work dude, it would be great to see it boot!

I would love to use this but I'm having trouble getting CWM on the Kyros 7012. I have been unable to get any questions answered. I used Snuffy Recovery 7012.

I did donate but I'm having major problems. I installed Bulldog B20 on a 7012 and I'm having major problems with the keyboard and Android Market. Is there a better ROM I should be using for the Coby?

if it is based on vimicro cpu then try my rom,Pratiks rom.but you have to make it compatible for your tab.-

AFAIK it's based on a Telechips 8902. It's only 720MHz, so you probably won't be developing for it. Thanks though.

Great info! I installed the Cyanogenmod 7.2 port for the MID7016 and it runs fairly well, but there is room for improvement.
And I made sure to install Snuffy before doing ANYTHING
I'll look into the porting options. I didn't have any Android experience until about a week ago. Now I have the 7012 tablet and an HTC Magic. Both had been sitting in my basement for months collecting dust.

I think this FW also works on U1 as it has the same chipset ..based from my exp with 2011 Sony phones with same chipset.

As I said in the OP, it is based on PiPo firmware, I have not compiled the ROM. I have ported it to Aoson M11, hence no source code.

You probably have a corrupt download, or your tablet is from the first batch which had slightly different internals.

Could you post again the Android 4.2 Jelly bean update file please?

Another day, another test on my dear D970
I used your Oma_RK29_CWM_6.0.2.8_touch and work fine~
still the same problem for me with my parameter, could you fix it please? i really like to have that 2.4go partition! I try to edit the file, but fail ;(
the d970 parameter is include in the attached file Aosp_OMA_D970.7z with some bad quality screenshoots :crying:
I flash with 120dpi, see pics to compare.
again, unlucky with format nand! AOSP_4.2.2_Format_NAND_Fix ;( ;( maybe my parameter is wrong? I'm a noob, so I dont really know..
still the emulated legacy and no direct acces to microsd or usb storage..
filemanager can acces root without permission?? checked in supersu and nolog there..
wifi is working.
no camera attached..
Rom is very fast, really nice Asop rom!

I flashed this new rom and it's awesome, I didn't think we could get 4.2.2 on our Cube U9gt2.
Problems I found, rotation doesn't work. Could it be fixed?

Did you try the "sensor_90_degree_fix" for this rom?
No problem with nand and mounting device?

Yes I did, and it didn't work.
Reproductor MX is slow when you want to start a film.

any advice for devices that fail to pass the bootanimation.in my case alcatel T10?

Works perfectly (with the exception of that on OP) on MSI Enjoy 7 Plus with the kernel of Jelly Bean made by Oma!

Have noticed that the apps2sd is not permitted in this version. Reverted back to stock JB 4.1.1 and am getting higher antutu scores.

Hello, I tested yesterday to install this 4.2.2 in a Wolder Mitab Sunset and works fine, thank you Oma :good:
I installed it using boot and system from your rom, and all the rest stuff from the official 4.0 from Wolder, if I try to install with all your stuff, the tablet doesnt boot.
I have two problems:
- Rotation, in all of your versions, if I leave automatic rotation, the screen is 180º rotated. I will try to install CrewRKTablets_AOSP_4.2.2_Sensor_90_Degree_Fix.zip, but I think it will not work, because I remember that I try this in previous rom version.
- gmail app, in the gmail app, I see the messages in three triplicated columns...
An a question? Do this rom have o will have bluetooth (with a usb dungle) support?

hi all,
Have a Technaxx techtab 8" and i tried this Rom with kernel intex itab 12T065.
No camera, no rotation, and on storage Nand is not show, still with Root explorer can see both external sdcard and Nand.
Else, every thing ok, in my simple knowledge.

In yours couples it is necessary to collect quarrystone for your pad and to replace necessary drivers.
