Does anyone know where I can find a zip file containing all the sound files that come with the EVO? There are a few ROMs that include them, but I want a stand alone zip file so I can add it to my SD card an keep them no matter which ROM I use.
I'd say nandroid your current rom, install one of those roms then copy them from /system/media/audio using root explorer.

Thanks a lot! Do you know which folder the HTC wallpapers are in?
Hopefully this is a simple answer. I'm using a custom rom on my phone, flashed through CWM. I would like to delete most of the ringtones that come inside the zip file, prior to flashing it to my phone, to make the process quicker/easier than doing the cleanup after they are installed on my phone in /system/media.
If I open the custom rom zip file, and simply delete the ringtones, will CWM simply skip those files? Or will this error on me and cause the installation to fail?
If i cannot simply delete these files, what process would i need to do to remove these from the rom zip?
I have been lurking for a while, and slowly digging in more and more on my android phone, getting more comfortable doing things with it, without being afraid of breaking it. I'm still a bit cautious so far though.
Thanks in advance for any help with my question!
It should be safe. I haven't removed ringtones before, but i have deleted apps before flashing.
Do not unzip the file, but just open thg zip file with WinRAR or something and delete the stuff from within WinRAR. Then flash it.
If you don't feel good about doing this, check out ROM Cleaner (google it). If you want to completly delete stock apps and stuff after you've flashed, use "Root App Remover" from the market

Some apps such as system ones will cause errors on the final product once done flashing, but removing such unimportant files as ringtones will cause no problem what so ever. Go ahead with it.

Thank you very much for the answers!
I just rooted my tmobile samsung galaxy s 4g phone. I am trying to do new ROM for it. I downloaded the update file, tried to to reboot in recovery mode. It keeps giving me error messages. I am new to this and really need help figuring this out. How else can I get new ROM on my phone?
If you want to get on gingerbread, follow my GB starter pack guide. It's in my signature. Don't forget to check out audiophile ftw or valhalla since those are the main GB roms right now.
If you really wanted to though, you could stay on the stock rom if you skip the CWM rom installation step and just do the busybox_installer step.

You say you downloaded the update.zip file but you do not mention the other file you need. The modded recovery.bin. That needs to be pushed in system/bin in order for the update.zip to work.
Did you also download and apply the modded recovery.bin? You need both files.

Where do I get the mooded recovery bin file? Thank you in advace.
If your attempting to get cwm through krylon360's cwm final thread then both the update.zip and the modded recovery file are there.

So do I download these files on my computer, hook my sd card up the computer and push them onto the sd card, or download them on my phone? Thank you.
Download them to your computer. Move them to your SD card. Leave update.zip on root of SD card. Use a file explorer app such as super manager to push the modified recovery.bin to the folder system/bin. Make sure your file explorer app is set r/w. Then boot into recovery and hit reinstall packages. You should boot into cwm recovery.

It's laid out for you there actually. Granted it's a tad cryptic but:
-bootanimation.zip--->system/customize/resource or data/local depending on rom.
Basically, download the boot animation you want (has to be a zip file) and rename it to bootanimation.zip if it isn't already renamed. Plug in your phone and move the bootanimation.zip file you want over to your SD card. After you confirmed that your bootanimation.zip file is on your SD card, then unmount/remove the phone from your computer.
Then the easiest way is to use an app called root explorer where you can copy and paste files onto your phone. In your case depends on your rom but generally located on /system/customize/resource. Just use root explorer to see if the bootanimation.zip is located there and if it is,you can simply rename the file (ie bootanimation1bkup.zip) to have it as a back up if you want to revert back. Go to root explorer, copy the bootanimation.zip file and head over to where you found your 'old' bootanimation file and before hitting paste, make sure you click the r/o button so that it reads r/w. Then paste the file. Go back and tick the r/w button again and you can exit the phone. That should do it.
Did I forget anything?
I'm looking to compile a rom (based on thiaiz) with modified sounds, theme, etc... I'd like to know if I make a backup using rom manager (creating a backup folder inside /clockworkmod/backup) the resultant image will be useful for anybody or only will work in my phone ? And why Rom Manager don't let me restore from internal Sd card ? Foremost I'd like to know if the scripts inside init.d will work. Thanks in advance.

actally it does let you restore from internal sd if you choose that from within the app. the phone shuts down and tries to find ext sd then proceeds with th restore. on the other hand if you reboot to recovery and try restore from there it wont let you...
And do you know if the scripts will work on another optimus 3D? Foremost supercharger99?
