My wife's Thunderbolt (formerly mine) cannot get a GPS lock. I have tried all I know to fix. I have tried different ROMs, including Zeus 1.3, which seemed to fix GPS for a lot of people. I downloaded the aGPS app and tried that. I even flashed the AGPS patch from this forum. Nothing seems to work. Anyone have any ideas? Can GPS actually break on a phone?

Hey guys,
Any suggestions on what to look into for fixing the GPS functionality on my VZW Touch Pro? I'm running the latest NFSFAN ROM. It shows no satellites in GPS Viewer, even after 20 minutes of standing outside with a clear view. I've tried turning aGPS on and off, flashed different radios, as well as tweaking the registry for QuickGPS (changed the servers from where QuickGPS fetches the latest data, and yes I know QuickGPS is irrelevant if aGPS is turned on ).
I've been Googling on this for the past couple of days and tried variations of everything I've read about. Any recent/relevant suggestions would be great Thank you!
Make your sure you have the verizon gps fix installed.

Hmm, not familiar with it? Is it the one they released last fall to unlock the GPS? I'm about to Google for it and read up, but is it something I need to install on a stock ROM? I'm running NFSFAN right now.
Hello,
I upgraded to CM 7.0.2 and can't get lock on GPS when using google maps navigator. I tried using GPS Status and reseting GPS data, using MSL Reader does not work since Inspire is not CDMA which reader seems to work with. GPS Status and GPS Test work at locating GPS satellites.
Did anyone have the same issue and found fix for this?
thanks!

Try being less of a jerk please.
While those scripts do help some, it's not the end all be all fix.
I was in your situation... somewhere along my happy flashing i lost my gps capabilities. I decided on cm7 but still had a broken gps. I flashed that script using cwm and now my gps is perfect, better than any gps from my previous phones. I do suggest downloading gps status after you flash those scripts. It'll download some agps data and hopefully your gps will lock on flawlessly from than on. Good luck.
Thanks guys! Will try using the script.
For the person that said he flashed the script and it worked flawlessly on CM7, which one did you actually flash? South East or North America...
I was in the same position before with CM7 and GPS acting up....did both of those and nothing changed really...
now i just freshly re-rooted my phone after having my parachute savior of going back to ATT STOCK completely...(saved it since i know if all else fails i can always go back and go back to the drawing board)...
I want to carefully chose my roms and also i would like to go back to radio that i originally had...so that's my next step.
I realize there are a plethora of GPS related threads, I searched and skimmed through what I could without finding an answer.
I am running Android Rev 1.1.5 rom, and have no GPS lock when using navigation, or trying to get directions of any kind. When using maps, it does lock to my location fairly quickly. However directions or navigation won't lock. I've waited as long as 15 minutes. I've uninstalled maps and reinstalled, checked my etc/gps file to make sure it was the north america map. I've done a full wipe twice using super wipe and reinstalled the rom. I've changed between stock radio and the recommended radio for the rom.
Basically, I have no idea why my gps refuses to lock when using navigation or even just for "print" directions.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I have exatly the same situation mine locks after about 20 minutes 15 minutes or so ... this is something I used on a daily basis I need help
I have the same problem I need the gps :/
have you tried gps fix from the market? worked for me
thank you for your answer suwu10
I just tested gps fix. Unfortunately no improvement so do not work
yup GPSfix worked for me also
Not for me.GPS enabled , i opened gpsfix and finds nothing or google maps. HelP!
yep, ever since I s-off'ed and rooted my phone, my GPS will not lock.
My GPS stopped working with i downloaded the Custom Firmwares.
So i reverted back to the original one and got it working again,
I guess its a driver problem in the CFWs

the same with me, but I can't go back to stock t-mobile anymore.
I hate that I have to choose between working GPS and running a custom rom
This issue is sometimes caused by not matched radios.
Try installing the correct RIL for your radio or flashing the recommended radio for the custom ROM.

I had the same issue a month ago. Turned out that the RIL and Radio needed to match in order to gps lock in navigation. I went through flashing diff roms even reverted to my stock setup and I had the same no gps lock issue.
What I did was made sure I had the correct RIL that matched my radio. Then if I needed to reflash the ril because of the different roms, I just referred to this thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14589319&postcount=1 to toggle on the radio to "wake" it up. Went to a gps locker app and made sure it locked on before going to google nav to test if it worked or not. Of course you need to be in an open area to see if the gps locks .
Try that I hope that helps!
My GPS wouldn't lock either until I installed a free app from the market called GPS Status & Toolbox. As soon as I ran that app it picked up a bunch of satellites and it now locks on instantly.
I've matched RILs to my radio, used GPS toolbox, and turned the radio off and on to "wake" it up with absolutely no luck.
The GPS worked absolutely fine when it was stock, but once I flashed a rom, or any rom for that matter, the GPS wouldn't work.
I would greatly appreciate any help, as I am lost without GPS (literally)

I do, but reverting it back did nothing for me.
Have you tried fasterfix?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.Double.FasterFix&feature=search_result
Requires root which you already have. From there you can tell what server you are trying to connect to.
Me being from the US, my server props do nothing for you.
I was helping my brother trouble shoot his Inspire's inability to get a GPS fix when using MIUI. He told me he had tried all the driver swaps and other methods that are commonly prescribed, and that nothing had worked. However, in CM7 and sense based ROMs the GPS worked fine.
In EVO circles, this is a common problem on MIUI as well. The work around that has been developed is as follows:
1) Install a [near]stock ROM. Anything sense based should work.
2) Turn on the GPS radio
3) Leave it on, and reflash your favorite ROM (MIUI/CM7/etc)
That should fix it. It worked great on his phone, and he is happily navigating in MIUI with full accuracy and a very short acquisition time.
Enjoy!
sounds more like it was a bad flash or bad agps data left behind. but then i dont use miui. There is a bit more involved with the 'evo gps fix' and you havent done any of that. I havent seen any problems thus far with gps that wasnt fixed with the proper methods for cm. miui has its own set of problems and isnt really supported here.

Well this was the method that worked for his phone, after all the other inspire fixes had failed. He'd flashed, cleared, reflashed, MIUI (various releases) and continued to have the same GPS problem. I figured I'd share in case anyone else was in a similar boat.
Cheers,
Kyle
Hallo everyone,
after many years of use without problems and with the Stock Android OS my GPS stopped working. I noticed that using first Google Maps, then I had the confirmation using the app "GPS Status" (Screenshot here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5xikt3yd4fz4sen/Screenshot_20190113-135600.png?dl=0).
I tried to use the "Hard Paper" fix under the GPS contatcs, but It didn't change anything.
Any tipps?
Update: I changed the Backcover (inclusive GPS antenna) with a new one, but It didnĀ“t change anything. Could maybe be a software problem?
The contacts may be busted. Neither NFC or GPS work on my N5 anymore. The contacts failed after the years of use/abuse. I didn't dig much deeper into fixing it than just confirming the problem as I only use my N5 as my snowboarding phone/media player.
Thanks for your answer. I checked the contacts of the Motherboard too, but the seems completely fine. I didn't had any Problem with the NFC, but the GPS still doent work. I have done a factory reset of the whole OS, hoping it was a software problem, but there's no difference and the GPS still doesn't work.
I still want find the cause of this. Any other tipps?
Maybe the gps.conf file is broken (it usually happens when you install a custom rom but maybe it happened on stock aswell)
Try to replace your gps.conf file with this one here. (need to be rooted)

Thanks for your tipp.
I first installed Lineage 14.1 (the OS works really well in comparison to the old Stock Rom) but the GPS still didn't work. So I tried first to install the new gps.conf via this guide, with no change. Then I tried the the app TopNTP, seems that it doens't work. So I gave a change to another App, GPS Fix/Optimzer, but even if it install of the .inf file succeded, the GPS don't work.
Im running out of ideas an hoping for a miracle.
Sorry, I thought that with the Lineage OS installation there was an automatic root of the phone. Of course I was wrong, and that's why the TopNTP and GPS Fix/Optimizer didn't work.
I rooted the phone right now, and tested the Apps in order to fix the GPS Issues, sadly without much success.
I tried different combinations with TopNTP, then used the GPS Fix/Optimizer standard options for my country. With both the Phone GPS can't reach a better accuracy of 1,5 Km. I don't remember if before was better, but the GPS is still not usable.
Still looking for help, every tipp is welcome! :good:
