[Q] GPS very slow outside the US - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hi everyone
I live in Georgia and have SIM Unlocked G2X , currently running owan's CM9 and Harsh latest OC kernel. My GPS gets a lock after 2+ minutes
I tried my gps.conf file that I was using on my captivate (I was getting instant locks with that conf) and still no go.
I get same performance on both GB and ICS ROM-s
any ideas?

I have same problem. It looks like AGPS on the G2x is broken. I run CM7.

Use bloater to adjust your GPS setups. Also check your build.prop for things pushing GPS signal to the us.

[Q] GPS only works on MIUI

Ever since I have rooted my Inspire I have tried many different ROMs, and the only one where the GPS locks consistently for.me has been the MIUI rom. Any other ROM either gives me a GPS lock some of the time or not at all.
I have tried many things to get.GPS to work on other ROMs. I've tried GPS status, FasterFix, clearing EFS data, editing the gps.conf file in /system/etc, and even copying the gps.conf file from MIUI to other ROMs, but nothing seems to work.
What is it about MIUI that make the gps work much better in that ROM than other ROMs? I like Sense and I don't really want to use MIUI but I miss my gps.

I should also mention that I live in the southeastern US.

Try installing death's GPS fix. Mount system and data in CWM before installing. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11342772&postcount=1
Also, reflashing the radio sometimes helps.
I tried both angeldeath's North America and Southeast gps scripts and all I got was one satellite max in GPS status. I did mount system and data each time I applied the update in CWM.
I am now running Inspired Ace 1.0.1 FWIW.

Did you try reflashing your radio?
What ROMs are you have GPS problems with? You said all but MIUI, but which ones specifically?
I have tried flashing different radios and RILs to see if they work per the Inspire radio thread. I will try reflashing and see if that helps.
I have used CM7.0.1, CM7.0.2, CM 7.1 RC 1, Android Revolution HD 5.1x, Inspired Ace 1.0.1, and Inspired AOSP RC1. Each version of MIUI I have tried works. I have tried 1.7.22 and 1.7.16 (I think that's the version number).

I should also mention that fast boot is turned off.

Do you have a case on your phone? The GPS antenna is located behind in the vicinity of the camera flash. I've seen reports that some cases interfere with GPS reception. Try taking the case off just to get a lock. Won't hurt.
I don't have a case for my phone. I have seen threads where you take the plastic cover off the back that.surrounds the camera flash, straighten put the springs that.touch the contacts, and reapply the cover. I have not been brave enough to try that. Plus, if gps just works in MIUI bit not any other rom, then that tells me that it is a software issue.

Cool. Yeah I've see that hardware fix too. Luckily my GPS is functioning, particularly with AngelDeath. Weird problem only works on one ROM. Well good luck. I hate it when GPS isn't working properly.

GPS has worked on all of them...I currently have 4 Sense based 4 ROMS on my phone now that are in my sig. I have only rolled Sense based ROMs. Every one of them have essentially worked good, and they work better with AngelDeath. My worst experience was stock back a few months ago, but just this morning I flashed a rooted/leaked AT&T GB RUU with the bloat stripped, and GPS works acceptable/good on it without AngelDeath.
Which ROM did you just install? I am downloading the one that Gene Poole posted this morning to give it a whirl. Hopefully I will have better luck with that one.

I saw GenePoole's. That's cool he put one out.
It looks like GenePoole's ROM does much better with GPS than with others I have tried. I can get 5-6 satellites with it, which is not optimal, but better than nothing. I will try AngelDeath's scripts if I am not satisfied with the accuracy. Which script did you use; the North America script or the region specific one?

Need help with GPS locks

I need help because my GPS wont lock... I've tried the G2X bloater and installed my region but it still wont lock even after 5 minutes.
EDIT: I'm on Faux's AOSP Rom with his kernel as well.
Do you have the newest baseband? That helped me lock much better.

What's the easiest way to install that? Do you have to flash official gb?
Sent from my LG G2x
I'm not familiar with your ROMs, however, I find it helps to have an unobscured view of the horizon in most directions and to not be moving in a car. If that fails, I then use an app called GPS Test by Chartcross Ltd. Go into settings and there are two buttons on the top labeled: Clear AGPS and Update AGPS. Try each of the two buttons.
I just looked up AGPS and here's what Wikipedia has to say, "Assisted GPS, generally abbreviated as A-GPS or aGPS, is a system which can, under certain conditions, improve the startup performance, or time-to-first-fix (TTFF) of a GPS satellite-based positioning system." Hope this helps.

the only way to install the new baseband is by using lgupdate tool, or kdz firmware updater along with the kdz file. try the lgupdate tool first. there are numerous threads explaining the process, which for some is a one click success story. for others, a walk through programming hell. the lgupdate tool is plagued.
Alright thanks everyone. I AM on the newest baseband, but am trying cm7 now

Let us know if this fixes your GPS. My GPS sucks taint too, and will upgrade the baseband if it fixes it, but don't want to risk the possible PITA using the LG tool if it doesn't fix it. Everything else other than battery life is amazing on my phone.

I have to reboot my phone to get the GPS to lock about half the time I try to navigate since upgrading to Gingerbread. I have the new baseband. It sucks. I complained again and they finally agreed to ship me a new phone. Not sure that will help anything...
Download from app market gps test, then after you run the gps test go to setings and hit clear agps and also update agps then it should lock under 15 seconds

My .02 : I am also on gb 2.3.4 hk1 and show poor signal strength, but I can still connect via wifi even when it says I have no signal. So I believe its just an issue of the graphical signal representation not matching the actual signal strength that you have.

No its a actual signal problem becuase i did a wifi speed test and got under 1mb when i usually get 15+ mb so its not a graphics error. But im sure someone will solve it soon.

If it got stuck on checking license, install v3 and then install v2 without uninstalling v3. Should work then.

Should being the key word. Tried it both ways and still gets stuck on checking license. I'll email the developer and get it straightened out. I'm starting to think it may have something to do with unlocking the phone. Stranger things have happened. Thanks

If so... can you please tell me what steps you took to get it working that way. What rom, kernel and additional files if any did you install?
I love the CM 7.1 nightlies as my daily driver but even after changing the gps.config to supl.google.com and port 7276...it takes forever to get GPS lock and sometime doesn't even lock at all.

wind mobile, using hackfest PA, stock PA kernel
the trick is, use fasterfix, or edit the init.d yourself, and set it to canada
your gps will get a lock eventually.
however dont expect it to get a lock fast, g2x has **** load of bugs and **** and is quite well known for having a slow ass GPS.
It usually takes about 1-4 minutes to get a lock depending on the sky condition.

what do you mean BT dont work? I bt tether to my tablet sometimes and it works perfectly.
are you saying BT audio? I dont have a handfree device i can test with bt so i cant say for sure.
30 second locks every time if I am outside. Mobile data needed and I am on stock Rom. Modified hidden menu GPS setting but GPS conf is still the stock one (believe it or not, wrong servers in it and all, but still works ).
Maybe it's just luck, but then, I have two g2x and both work identically good locking to GPS signal.
Bluetooth audio is a deal breaker for me, so nothing but stock for now
