Hello ladies and gentleman.
I've had my HTC Inspire for approximately 9 months. It's a decent phone but today I decided to try Rooting my device.
I used the Ace Hack Kit and followed step by step and even read the Effin Manual
Anyways all went well and I ran the tests that were needed.
Now, I'm having difficulties putting a ROM on, I've been trying to do CM7.2 and I've just had no luck. I've googled it and haven't had much luck with that either.
Sorry to make this so long!

So, what is your question?? in the Effen manual you have an explanation how to flash a rom. Make sure that before you do anything you first do a backup of your current rom...
Did you do a full wipe and delvic cache, then load the Rom?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA
If i remember correctly, and that is if you are rooted, you need to install cm7.1 and then cm7.2 on top of it. Cm7.2 is an update and not a rom. Remember to make a back up before anything. If you havent done it yet, install 4ext touch from xda.

Not actually. But that depends from where you are getting the file...try this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1553663
I have flashed that one on a friends phone and works...
Ive flashed so many roms its hard to keep track
Sent from a dream.
I would say if you not got the Rom working try another but over all its put the rom file on the root of the sd card, then boot into recovery wipe cache ,delvik wipe user data and go to install flash zip and that's about it for flashing a rom. But a couple of tips if you always do a Rom back up with clockwork mod once you get clockworkmod when you open it the 1st thing is flash clockwork do so..then backup
Kerenls will help battery life..etc

I am new to this rooting stuff and been spent most of yesterday learning and asking questions. Here is what I did and some questions I got from it.
1. I rooted using the guide from ace hack it, took me a few tries but got it working.
2. Noticed I went from GB 2.3 to 2.2 after it. So is there a way to get to 2.3. This will lead to another question a few.
3. I loaded my first Rom off the SD and it was Leedriod. That gave GB 2.3 but was having difficulty with gps. But I was happy to know the rooting and Rom laps worked for me.
4. So I tried the offical ATT RUU through usb and HTC sense. It worked but also put me back to stock. Is this a way of putting your phone back to stock? I do have ace hack it on the phone because when I reboot I can get into it but if I select recovery from the menu it seems to lockup my phone.
5. Is the term Rom and RUU interchangeable? I see people using both or am I reading it wrong?
Thanks for any help. I have been reading pages of this stuff and its making my head spin. I just wanted to ask some questions to help understand this better, since I'm new to it.

Oh I forgot one.
A lot of instruction say to 'clear cache'. How do you do that? Is that the wipe cache option I see from the ace hack it menu?
Thanks

Ruu=Radio Update Utility
Rom=the OS you see/use on the phone.
When you ran the Ruu, you unrooted your phone. You'll have to rerun the Hack Kit to regain root but not S-off and to be able to flash a different (preferably custom) rom.
Do you have a preference for Sense or AOSP?
I figured that I had to rerun which is ok with me.
I don't really use sense because there aren't many options to it. So I would try asop but o don't know what is

If you're S-OFF, all you have to do is flash ClockWorkMod recovery to regain root; no need to redo the whole hack kit.

If you ran the RUU, it will return you to a stock ROM, but you are still S-OFF which is the biggest hurdle in rooting your phone. If you want to root after running the RUU, just flash ClockWorkMod recovery via HBOOT and then install a rooted ROM.
That's dang good info. From what I knew, you had to rerun part of the hack kit to reboot. How does flashing CWM root the stock rom?

It appears we're both half right.

What does RUU stand for?
It stands for Radio Unit Upgrade. But please forget this name: it is confusing, because it upgrade the Radio Rom & the OS ROM, or only one of them.

It doesn't, but once CWM is installed, you can install any of the multitude of rooted ROMs available.

Easy enough to get the real answer. When I first saw you call it Radio Update Utility it didn't sound right. So I googled it. I saw about 4 names that people gave it including Radio Unit Upgrade but then I thought where did I see it before. Oh yes, right from the upgrade utility.
So I tried recovery again. And my phone keeps getting locked up. The device appears with a red triangle with a red exclamation mark. So i tried the downgrade from the hack it kit. It worked but i still get the same thing. So i tried reverse gold card and i got a error. The same that i got before i reformatted the SD to get the root to work.
So later today, I will reformat and run the hack kit again. I am probably going to try Coredroid ROM.
I just rooted my phone using Ace-Hack, everything was fine and dandy until I tried putting a custom rom on.
Everything was going smoothly, until I went to re-boot my phone. hearing from friends that it takes a little while before the phone fully re-boots. I let it sit awhile... after about 10 minutes I got a little worried. After 20 I got really worried.
Now it just sits there and plays the booting animation over and over and over.
Anyone have any advice?
Boot into recovery, wipe everything, try again.
recovery = Volume down and power button.
By try again, he means reflash the rom after wiping. Don't just wipe and try to boot the phone again.

Same thing happened to me when I tried installing my first ROM. Got stuck in a boot loop so I pulled the battery, booted into recovery, did a full wipe and re-flashed the .zip of the ROM. Worked perfect the second go around and haven't had an issue since.

Hey there i have inspre4g......i'm running android revolution v.7 and loving it.Mike did a suppurb job...and the ace hack kit is great....
it's a one step kit.....but you gotta read the manual....turn off all anti virus or mal ware and also uninstall any motorola ..htc (ex....kies)....apple programs
search for the advanced ace hack kit ......it has links to everything needed on the post.......
plus if you do mess up you can take your inspire back to stock through it and start over.......it does a lot of stuff so be patient......
................not sure if i helped but any other questions.......email me ....ill get back to you faster..... [email protected]
best of luck......
link to advanced hack kit.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
and after you do the hack and it completes.......and reboots......reboot agian...
then do your regular routine with setup......then do the superuser......then if you dont have rom manager......go to market and get rom manager and install it.....it will crank up........it will give you some info......ok it.....flash the clock work mod recovery(i prfer touch.....its a further down).....before it stops downloading near the end it should ask for superuser........ok it.......if you download a mod through it......it will basically handle itself......just pay attention......if you download through xda....or someplace....
easiest way......reboot to recovery using rom manager........
goto advanced options
davlvik clear
when finished......click go back.....
goto factory wipe.......click
when finished .....goto install zip from sd card
then got to choose zip from sd card
then choose the zip of custom rom you put on sd card.....
then install zip from sd card......
Some people find it easyier to just connect to pc and put the zip in the main sd card folder........it must be a zip......dont un compress or anything...
hope this helps.........let me know....
Ok I am in dire need of help! I just flashed my G2x and have no connection to tmob ile whatsoever. Ive tried three different roms no including eagles blood, hell fire phoenix and now bionix. each time ive got no tmobile connection and no battery data also. dont know if ive done something wrong any help?
Have you tried CM7? Did you do a full wipe prior to installing? Have you tried to flash back to stock? We need a little more info, please.
yes ive tried cm7. i just recently reverted completely back to stock and still no connection or battery data. when i originally flashed rom yes i did full wipe cache wipe and dalvik wipe. well when i had flashed clockwork mod recovery i did it through rom manager and my first custom rom flash resulted in a boot loop and i wasnt able to get back into recovery.. after hours of searching i figured out how to flash recovery through apx and was able to get into clockwork recovery and there i flashed my rom.. since then ive tried everything to get a connection to the network with no success. even reverting to full stock.. now before it was stock gingerbread and now its back to froyo.. have tried over and over to use lg update tool with no success.. thanks for all and any help
So im still searching.. With no luck.. Turns out it is a baseband problem says unknown.. Im literally seconds from throwing this phone at the wall!! Aaagh...
If you have no baseband, you may not have a radio installed... no radio/unknown = no data. Try flashing your desired ROM and then flashing a radio. I don't much about the G2X... you might want to check this thread out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332350
Also, I just read that you can go to LG's website and use their official updater. Some users have said they had to return to stock to get it to work, while another claims they had CWM Recovery and CM installed and it worked perfectly. Bottom line is that is sounds like you need a radio.
Yea ez stuff. Downlosd radio and flash it

Hello guys,
I have posted about this issue before maybe six or more months ago, but it was not sorted out. So basically my problem is that I am running LeeDroid 3.3.3 on my phone. I have been using this ROM since the first time I rooted my phone. The problem is that I want to change this ROM, but my phone will not run any other ROM at. Any ROM that I install my phone hangs on the white HTC logo screen and does not go anywhere from there. I have had a few instances where my phone would load up a new ROM that I try to use, but it would eventually freeze and when I would restart the phone, it would never get past the white HTC screen. My phone does seem to load up Cyanogen Mod successfully most of the time, but I do not like that ROM. I have tried to re-root my phone, use a different SD card, format my SD card and used both CWR and 4ext recovery to try to install different ROMs. Nothing but the original stock ROM, LeeDroid 3.3.3 and Cyanogen Mod load up and I hope that someone might have dealt with a similar issue over this time that has passed. Thanks for reading and hope you can help!

did you do complete wipe of phone using super wipe
Yes. I don't use superwipe thought. I just wipe everything with 4ext Recovery. I used to use superwipe, but it did not help.

Make sure that your phone does not have a hardware issue. There's no reason for a custom rom to work and other not if you are S-OFF. Make sure that the roms are for your phone and not for a different device, that might explain that.

Yes, my phone is S-OFF as it says in bootloader and every ROM I try comes from the Inspire 4G Developer section in this forum. I am left to believe that this really is a hardware issue, but how can my phone be the only one? I have never heard anyone else have a similar issue. And it is also weird that LeeDroid 3.3.3 works no problem.

Well I unrooted my phone using the ACE hack kit a few times and then rooted it again and tried to put on a different ROM each time but my phone still does not load the ROM. My phone loads up the backup LeeDroid no problem though. So I was wondering if something from LeeDroid changed my phone that it does not accept any other custom ROMs. I wonder also if I unrooted the phone with a new pd98 zip from a phone that didnt have LeeDroid on would possibly help?

No you need the rooted att pd98 zip. You are already rooted no need to mess with the ace hack kit. Power up with volume down and power button into hboot you should see s-off meaning its rooted just reboot and download zip then just place in root of SD card power off then power up to hboot with volume down and power button it will recognize zip volume up for yes to install let it do its thing then your back to rooted stock att gingerbread rom and radio. Then install whichever custom rom you want just follow their installation instructions on their page.

Do not use this if you are still s-on

I recently followed these instructions to get CM7 on my Evo Shift:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Evo_Shift_4G:_Full_Update_Guide
I had to do the 2.2 downgrade by following this guide, including the temp root linked in the instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255474
When I had that set up, I downloaded ROM Manager and made a recovery image. Installed CM7. Everything worked great, except for some wonkiness with Google Voice. I found an ICS rom that looked interesting, but being a total newbie had no idea how to switch to something new. So, I loaded my recovery image thinking this is the closest thing to starting from scratch. However, after I did that superuser was no longer on my phone and I couldn't get temp root like I previously could. I consistently got this message:
"an error occurred running the exploit (-1) (errno: 25)"
If I can't temproot, I can't put superuser back on my phone. Is there another way to root my phone? Did I do something phenomenally stupid? Any advice for switching between roms? I apologize for my inexperience; I just started rooting a week ago.
Thank you for your patience!!
