I got an issue trying to root my Droid 2 using SuperOneClick. as far as I can tell I have done everything needed to insure it is done correctly. Here's what usually happens, it will go to a step 7 and say reboot, and my phone will then reboot, or, it will say waiting on device and just stop. This occurs at step 5.
Also having same problem on my friend's Droid 2 with Gingerbread 2.3.4. Hoping for an update to this in this thread:

Rooted many different phones before, but I've tried everything on this phone, but nothing works. I'm so frustrated. Apparently Motorola is doing everything in their power on OTA updates to prevent users from rooting! (or at least modifying something that requires a different exploit with each update). Watching tons of threads waiting for some breakthrough right now.....

So the purpose of this thread is to somehow update my 2.2.19 Droid 2 to 2.2.20.
The problem is as follows:
I rooted my phone and removed a lot of the crapware. But for a couple different reasons I want the 2.2.20 upgrade, though the phone works pretty well as is.
The OTA doesn't want to work. I've un-rooted and tried the OTA, fail. I went to my Titanium and tried to reinstall the deleted crapware and it only got through 4 of them. The other 10 won't reinstall, presumably the ones I need in order for the OTA to succeed.
I tried RSD Lite and it claimed "success" though I saw no real change after the reboot.
I don't know what to do at this point. If there's a way to even re-flash to a 100% stock version of Droid 2.2 with all the original programs and lose all my crap, I'll do it. I just don't know where to go and what to do.

I have googled the topic extensively but I could not get the proper answer till now.
My problem is I just wanted to root the my Nexus S, the instructions from the forum seemed easy. Reading about different methods, i went with the Superboot one, after preforming the task and everything seemed well what the terminal (mac) output meant. After it restarted it never rebooted the UI and just stuck with the boot screen ( Google written in the middle and a lock sign on the bottom).
I'm not pro with android since I only got the phone a few days ago, after more than a decade on simbian.
Anyway does anyone know what happend? Even better how to fix it? Flash the Rom?

I figured it out made, got a new version of Superboot and redid it and it works now.
How can I bring my Droid X2 from Verizon back to how it was when I got it from the store??
I rooted my phone using MotorolaOneClickRoot.exe "pete's motorolla tools"
I removed bookmarks and I removed two or three verizon stock apk like Blockbuster and Slacker. Also allowed super user permission for apps like barnicle wifi tether and a screenshot program. I have done nothing else.
I recently got the request to upgrade to 1.3.380.MB870.Verizon.en.US but I can not upgrade.

I factory reset the hard way. Hold power plus volume down... The phone boots back up and I still have Superuser icon showing but everything else is different. I realized at that time I would have to unroot but I could not remember which program I used to root my phone.

I ended up installing gingerbreak and used the unroot uption on that program to unroot my phone. It said successful. I tried to install the update and it failed. I factory reset the phone and it failed. IDK why but I attempted to root the phone again using gingerbreak after that... but gingerbreak would not root my phone again, it just sat there doing nothing for an hour and 30 minutes.

I searched more and found the program I originally used. I loaded it up and clicked the unroot option. It unrooted my phone sucessfully. I attempted to upgrade and it failed again!

I ran the temporary root that came with MotorolaOneClickRoot.exe . Thinking maybe gingerbreak messed up some files and I needed to restore them for the unroot to work properly. The temporary root was not what I had used the first time so I'm thinking maybe I should have done the permanant root... I then unrooted the phone again. After that, I factory reset again and attempted to upgrade the phone. Still fails.
I havn't removed or modified any sytem folders. I simply deleted bookmarks and Blockbuster and other useless stock apps. I've unrooted and factory reset but blockbuster and the stock applications never come back...
I can't upgrade my phone and I need some help. I can't remember what came with the phone by default so IDK how to manually set it back. Please, how can I resolve this? How can I bring my phone back to how it was when I got it from the store??

Notherwise fully aware if we have a forum for your device but if we do....head in over to that place and look fir the "stock ROM" for your device.
First thing is first....you need ti remove root...not familiar with device so don't know is stock Rom will restore root.
Another option is to go to the first thread on this forum and ask Samuel.....he might be able to help.

I don't want to restore the root. Honestly I never really used the super user features for anything other than screenshots.
I have no roms or anything. This is just 2.3.3 with the root enabled. I did lurk around and find a link to VRZ_MB870_DTN-14.8.sbf but I'm not sure if that is what I need to do? Will an SBF restore my phone and applications so I can upgrade again?
Update to my previous post. I searched around like I should have in the first place.
I used RSDLite 5.3 to flash my phone to VRZ_MB870_DTN-14.8.sbf. Which was android 2.2.2
I was then able to update the phone to version 2.3.3 and then finally 2.3.4 official OSA over wifi.

I'm new here, I hope I'm posting this in the right forum. My apologies if not.
I have a rooted Verizon Droid 4 running Gingerbread. I had busybox installed to root it, and I configured it using the Droid utility on OS X some months ago. I used Titanium Backup (with root) to freeze the bloatware.
Fast forward to a couple days ago, when Verizon pushed the ICS update to it's phones. I downloaded it and ran it, and it reported "update failed", then I smacked myself in the head and remembered that I didn't un-root the phone.
So I disabled root via busybox, and then retried the update. It downloaded and ran, and now it gets stuck at the Droid animation screen (the one after the "M" "Dual Core" screen).
I'm thinking it's because I did not unfreeze those apps through Titanium?
In any case, I've tried restoring it to Gingerbread (219) (VRZ_XT894_6.5.1-167_DR4-1_M1-219_1FF_01.xml), and it fails on step 6/18 (cdt.bin).
I understand that you can't flash back to Gingerbread from Ice Cream Sandwich, but I'm not sure if ICS ever went all the way through.
Right now I'm downloading the ICS fastboot files (I've been attempting all these restorations via RSD Lite on a mac pro with bootcamp, and a factory cable that I made from the instructions on here (what a pain in the ass that soldering was)).
Does anyone have any advice on what to do to return my phone to stock? I can't get it to do anything.

Actually, you'll likely be able to find a thread detailing how to return to stock anyway. The problem is that, as you guessed, you didn't unfreeze those stock apps and processes before taking the update.
I hope you're able to restore to GB as ICS isn't perfect yet because of VZ's tweaking and I don't think it's worthwhile unless you're going to a custom Rom. At least now you know how to handle things in the future, though I wouldn't recommend taking updates until they've been out for a bit and problems have been dealt with.
Hi! I realise this if my first post I'd like to tread lightly; but I'm about 4 days into solving my issues and I just want to finish it...
I've had my Nexus i9020a (bought from Koodo) since ~May 2012. I upgraded to ICS sometime in the summer and sometime in the last few weeks it has started rebooting. I hadn't been installing new apps, etc. I'm not sure what the cause is. I 'Factory Reset' today in an attempt to resolve the issue, thinking it may be a program gone AWOL; but it has rebooted a few times since. I *just* looked through rebooting FAQ on this site and have edited the first few features listed there. I'm not sure if it has worked yet, but I'll get back to you on that. For the record, the only programs I have installed now are Swiftkey 3, Handcent and Beats (DDR simulator, updated in November).
In the meantime, before I found the solutions here, I decided to take another shot at unlocking the bootloader and try installing... probably CyanogenMod.
Specs: Windows 7 64 bit with Nexus S I9020a (Koodo) running 4.0.4 (4.1.1/2 OTA haven't come through, despite dozens of attempts at clearing the GSF cache, etc)

I've followed the guide for installing the Android SDK, gone to CMD and typed 'adb devices' and had it show up. Theoretically, the SDK should be running fine.
Next, I turned on the USB debug mode. Then I booted up the bootloader, plugged the NS into the PC... and despite not having issue when the it's turned on (driver installed properly) windows says drivers have not been found for the device. Thus, when I type fastboot devices, it comes up with nothing.
I've been, and will continue perusing forums for this, but so far I haven't seen anyone with this specific problem.
Edit: I have also gone to the directory with fastboot/adb and used cmd to reboot into the bootloader, only to have windows 'ding ding ding' an unrecognised device.

I've gotten a stage further! I'll keep the thread open because I may come across something and it's nice to write my issues down. Seems my head can wrap around the problem a bit better. Anyway, I installed PDAnet and BAM, it works. Onto getting CWM installed! Thanks for the, uh, help!

CyanogenMod 10.0 stable is booting for the first time!! It's taking a while... but I appear to be on the home stretch! Also, my phone didn't reboot for a few hours before I installed CM. So if I don't end up somehow bricking it... and I mean, this first boot is taking a heck of a long time... The animation sets me at least a bit at ease... maybe 4.0.4 will work out...

I forgot to clear the app and cache data before flashing the ROM to the phone and thus the issue... after a VERY tension filled moment of pulling the battery during first boot... I rebooted, cleared said data and reflashed the ROM. After a boot, I realised I forgot the GAPPS zip and fixed that. Now I'm running CM10 Stable!! I'm stoked that after months of putting it off cuz last time I did it I didn't get anywhere after many days, but now it's done!! Thanks again for such an awesome site!
