Hey I was wondering if anyone else was having wifi connection issues with the xoom? Every time I use my xoom I have to keep retrying to load the market, webpages and everything else that uses data. Usually have to reload the market around 3-5 times to get it to work. I have tried 2 different routers and stilll the same thing. Please let me know if anyone else is having this issue and if there is a way to fix it. Thanks
P.s. When Im on 3G everything is fine
I get it but only with Market, I assumed it was a market issue.
On. 3G, for me, everything is dog slow, but I never get the Retry box.

Mine works perfect with my AT&T U-Verse gateway and tethered to my AT&T captivate. No problems here at all with wifi. Do you have problems with other wifi routers? Go to Starbucks or a friends and see if the same issue occurs. If not, there is something with your router that Xoom does not like.
I'm having WiFi issues as well. I don't have any issues with any other laptops in my house ... but my Xoom ... get very poor signal on WiFi and sometimes doesn't get any connection at all. This is serious buzz kill.
Mine is also choking on wifi. Switch to 3g and no problems. Annoying.

Hardly surpisring when the antenna is surrounded by glass and plastic
Wifi is suspect on the Xoom. I cannot get a connection to my secure wireless at work but I can connect to the less secure guest wireless network. I also could not initially tether with my phone (TMobile Vibrant) but after I downloaded Mobile AP I was able to tether just fine and have not had any issues since then.
No complaints here to report. I'm pulling in on average a speed of 17mbps download on most days from my home wifi network. Quite the speedy little guy my Xoom is.
WiFi hasnt been a problem for me either.
So far, I've used it on 4 different wireless networks (G and N/G), using various security options and I connect to each without fail. Hell, Ive even seen the Xoom connect to WiFi when driving down the street towards places that I have it configured to see.
I did have some trouble at one point due to my DNS and DHCP servers being offline. I didnt suspect any issues with them, so I spent more time than I should have troubleshooting the Xoom.

Always Connecting...
Greetings All,
I have been having issues as well after the update. The wireless always disconnects and connects and doesn't stay connected. No problems with my Droid X or laptop or other device.
Problem is that now I'm getting very close to going over my data plan.
Is there a fix in the works, since it worked perfectly with 3.0

UPDATE: Uninstalled the leaked Flash 10.2 and that has fixed the problem, somewhat. Still disconnects, but less.

Wireless issue fixed....
Greetings again,
Even after uninstalling flash, the problem persisted somewhat. I was getting very frustrated and so I reset the xoom to factory settings. A few notes on that. All applications were reinstalled, through the market which is good and bad.
So far, after 2 days of heavy wireless use, not a single drop in wifi connectivity.
Hope this helps...

So far my wireless is great. I use WP2 Secure at home, a WEP at my parents, and a MAC based approval network at work. All are steady with full bars and no issues.
SleeplessNinja

Its the encrypton protocol, WPA2 with AES will cause problems.
TKIP works.
I also have random issues. Some days its just fine, but other days wifi works and then stops working, usually a reboot fixes it.
Must be some wifi issue.
I have a fully factory stock xoom and have had NO wy fy problems at all! internet conection firm and stable. I intend not to root my zoom untill all the important updates are done and stable. I also am waiting for my 4G card install. I have WPA2 with AES and the xoom conected to it with NO problem
I haven't had any problems with mine whatsoever. I think it could be your router. My Xoom stays connected with my router and I haven't had a single problem so far with connected wifi.
My PS3 needs a router reset every single time I want to play Black Ops though.
ihad this issue. I think it may be hioneycomb and not xoom related because I experienced it on the acer iconia. The good news is that I resolved my connection issue with wifi. On the surface it looks like a dhcp handshake issue so, if you assign your xoom a static ip from your router, the issue goes away and all is good.
Hi, just got the 7+ for and early Christmas present and love it... except for one issue.
Downloads take far, far too long, and I while I've checked everything I know to check, I'm hoping someone here might know something else to do.
I can log into the market and Amazon, but a simple 3.5mb download will take upwards of 10-15 minutes to download. I have wireless n, and my rooted (from last year) Nook Color will download the same file on the same wireless network in seconds.
I did do the firmware update (literally 4+ hours! to download-I didn't know about Kies yet) and it seemed to increase the wifi speed somewhat, but not enough.
Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated!
My WiFi speed is 16Mbps down/4Mbps up with speedtest app. So might be the problem of your network connection to Amazon, not the problem of device.
I get spotty wifi at work. Doesn't seem to like our access points, but at home it's perfect.

I still think it might be my 7+ I downloaded speed test, and did the test on my 7+, my Nook Color with an old rom, and a Nook Color I'm rooting for an Xmas present with a newer rom.
Samsung: 0.183/download 2.786/upload
Old Nook: 9.876/download 2.832/upload
New Nook: 12.002/download 2.781/upload
This is all on the same exact network, at the same distance.

Brand/model of router?
Opened my Tab 7+ Saturday night. After setup, it wanted to download updates for 5 different apps and software update (147mb). Was painfully slow. Left it downloading and went to bed. In the morning, it was finished with them all.
Re-booted and tried again. Market was terrible. Finally got the Speedtest.net. Ran the test and got 3547 kbps upload and 24 kbps download. Downloaded the same app on my droid x and gt 3647 kbps upload and 9734 kbps download.
Have a Linksys WRT300N V1.1. Rebooted it. No change.
Did a factory reset on the Tab. No change.
Called Samsung and was told this issue was being sent up to level 2 and someone will call me back. I asked when and was told 3 to 5 business days!?!?
Back to Fry's. They were awesome. Took it back and gave me a full refund.
The WRT300N might have had a firmware update since you purchased it, which would lead to issues with download speeds. I have a 160N where my Tab ran slow on WiFi but fast on other devices, once I updated the firmware everything worked well. The issue isn't always the device.

Sure. 5 laptops (3 different brands) and 2 Droid phones (Droid X and Droid Incredible) having no problem. Must be the router. As I am going to pick-up a new 7 Plus tonight, I will ask which router they are using. Any bets?

And how old are the laptops? The Droid X and Incredible have a good year on them, meaning the WiFi Chip in them is most likely at least 1.5 years old. You forget that each WiFi device uses a different chip that IS older.
An example for you, I run an IT department, my boss just got a new iMac 21.5 inch. With this new computer, he is randomly losing all internet connection. My thought was that clearly there was a bad network adapter, so we took the computer back, and got a new one, same issue, clearly ruling out the network adapter. Then I looked for software problems, VMware fusion seemed to be the culprit, we didn't lose network connectivity with it not started. So we switched him to Parallels. Parallels resolved the issue temporarily. It came back.
Finally I plugged in a different router, a backup one I have just in case something goes wrong. Everything worked perfectly. The issue wasn't exactly the router 100% but a driver incompatibility with the unit that would kick itself off when the computer woke from sleep. Just because 8-20 devices work perfectly on a router doesn't mean a new one will also.
Well, as it turns out you folks are right. Got my new Tab home and had the exact same problems. After 30 minutes downloading the speedtest app, got the same readings as the last tab. Noticed another wifi connection available in my list. No security activated. Gave it a try. Ran the test again and got 100 times the download speed.
Going router looking Saturday morning. Any advice on what I should look for?
HD TV with smart tv
the 5 mentioned laptops (btw two of the laptops were Christmas presents this year)
two desktop computers (one wifi connected and one wired)
and my tab.

Since you have so many different devices. I would strongly recommend a dual-band router. The reason being single band routers only broadcast using one frequency usually 2.4Ghz or 5.0Ghz but dual band routers can do both simultaneously. This should ensure compatibility with all of your devices. Here are a link from newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...10076 600107140&IsNodeId=1&name=Up to 600Mbps
Well, gotta say thanks, and admit that you guys were right... it was our router too...
We did exchange my 7+, and bought a second one for the hubby, but were still having the slow downloads.
I checked the thread, (my notifications stopped for some reason) and saw the comments about a dual band router. Since our router was close to three years old, the hubby bought a Linksys e4200, and what a difference!
7+'s are now zipping along, loading pages immediately, downloading in seconds, and his laptop is also doing the same
Thanks guys, you're awesome!
Got this one at Frys today. What a difference. Download speed went from 37 kbps to 15159 kbps.
http://www.netgear.com/home/products/hometheater/networking-for-home-theater-and-gaming/WNDR37AV.aspx
Thanks guys
With the new router, my download speed went from 183 kbps to 9334 kbps!
I expect it'll be even better when we're not streaming Netflix and downloading audiobooks for the hubby at the same time
Found the Fix
Hey everyone,
I also recently bought the 7+ and my connection was incredibly slow as well. I believe I have actually found the culprit, at least on my router. Using an app called Network Tester I found out that I was getting extremely high pings to just my router, while my internet connection (when it got through) was speedy. After spending a few hours on my router's settings (Netgear WNDR3800), I stumbled upon a setting called RIP under LAN Setup. I read about it on Wikipedia and decided to enable it and give it a try, couldn't hurt right? Well after switching it to enabled using version 2_M, the 7+ works like it should!
Seems in the few reviews I've read Wi-Fi signal strength is not all that great, and this worries me. Last year when I had the HTC Sensation it also had really bad Wi-F reception, often dropping signal when I went in certain rooms in my house.
Would really appreciate some feedback from those already using the Rogers or AT&T version of this phone. Is Wi-Fi signal strength good, bad, or somewhere in between?
I personally don't have my phone yet, should be getting it this friday. However other people have been reporting that the Rogers version has had spotty wifi reception.

Yeah that thread actually made me create this one. I want to know if others are having issues or if its just certain routers.
Hopefully someone with the AT&T version can chime in pretty soon.
might be worth researching if it was an 802.11a/b/g/n router it was communicating with, and what chipset the router uses. Make/model can figure that out though.
Yep, I can confirm that the WiFi has been a bit spotty. Not horrible. When I'm in my living room, maybe 10-15 feet from the router, it's aces. In my bedroom though, through 2 walls and maybe 50 feet away, it can go up and down, but I've only noticed it once or twice in the past week.
Once, however, as I was leaving work for the day, the phone reported that it was still connected to WiFi, even once I got a mile or so down the road. I had to turn wifi off/on again before it resumed normal operation.

Yeah, I am hoping that the AT&T version doesn't have the same problem too. I know that the Rogers and AT&T version are the same hardware but it seems like it is a software issue.
Hopefully, *fingers crossed* the AT&T version doesn't come with the same problem and has already fixed the problem in the software.

I think I read on here or Android Central that someone played with one in the AT&T store and said the Wi-Fi was fluctuating like crazy.
So I'm sure the AT&T will be the same.

Yeah, someone here wrote that and it will likely have the same problem unfortunately. However, we don't know at the store how far away the router is or even how good the quality of the router is.
So you have to make sure you base your analysis on where the problem lies by first having a baseline. Meaning right now I know that with my iPhone my wifi work very well and has great coverage with my Cisco E4200. So once I get my HOX I can then compared it to see what the difference is.
Follow a process like that then we will be able to tell for sure if the AT&T model does have a wifi problem and it is a problem with the handset and not some other external factor.
Same problems here ...

Regrettably, I seem to be having similar problems. Like you, I also get situations where my phone reports that it's still connected to my WiFi network, both at work or at home, yet I could be 1-2km down the road.
I certainly hope this issue is resolved soon. I use an automatic profile manager that needs to detect WiFi connections/disconnects accurately.

that's exactly what that option does. starts to kill the wifi in order to improve battery life. I think it increases speed/range when the screen is on, but it's still never set to maximum power/speed.
I think we are going to have the same issues as the Rogers version. I've played with the demo unit at the Corp store several times and had wifi drop out about half of those. The signal strength was full, but that's all I know of their setup. Today I had to turn wifi off and then back on before it would even connect. It's a bummer that HTC has done such wonderful job on everything else, but we still have spotty wifi on their flagship device. I am preordering tomorrow anyway though. Hope it can be fixed with a software update down the line.

I'll test with this setting on today and see how it effects my wifi performance / battery. When I was running b/g/n on my router I did speedtests with the option both on and off and it made absolutely no difference in the speeds and the connection would still drop off. Literally right next to it my iPhone constantly got 6-8 mbps.

I remember with the dreaded HTC Sensation, wifi would often cut in and out and data speeds would be very poor. Looks like HTC's bad habits didn't die young.
AS i mentioned in previous posts. I am having the same wifi issues and i'm on my second HTC one xl. They both have poor wifi performance. I also have the problem where it sometimes stays connected when i leave the house and im 3 km's away.
Feel a little better as the International version got a new update tonight which supposedly resolves the Wi-Fi bug. So hopefully we'll get an update relatively soon.
http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-one-x-gets-second-firmware-update
I contacted HTC with all these bugs. Hopefully, they give me a response. If they do, i will post it here in the forums.
While using the phone in a spot with poor wifi reception, I've noticed the wifi icon completely goes away sometimes. It will then pop back on shortly thereafter. Is this normal behavior when it thinks the wifi signal is completely gone?
I just picked one up yesterday and have been having issues. In my bedroom it will read 2 bars, drop to one, then shut off. Comes back on within seconds. This phone seems to have WiFi issues for a lot of users.

Same problem here, but it also happens when it says i have full bars. I need to enable best wifi performance to fix it. My gsii never had this problem...
This is exactly how mine behaves too. I'm in the room with my router so I normally have full bars (and should) but every once in a while the signal goes away and comes right back 2 seconds later. I've tested it with 2 routers, a linksys running dd-wrt and a d-link one, both have the same results.

I don't think what I am experiencing is a hardware issue at all. Im not even moving the phone when this happens, and my phone passes the squeeze test. I'm confident this means it has to be software related.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
This is kind of an old/dead thread by now, but I just wanted to share my experience with wifi on the One X.
I'm also having problems, but I'm currently running a nightly (though very stable) build of CM10 on my One X and still have wifi issues. This COULD be hardware related, in that it's just crappy hardware (though it could also be software related if CM10 is built using wifi "code" (not really sure what the correct term for the wifi stuff in the software is ) from the stock software)
I'm sitting at work right now, for example, and every once in a while the wifi will disconnect. When connected it shows 2-3 wifi bars, when it's NOT connected, my wifi network shows up as "not in range" .
same type of thing has happened at my house. I thought my phone was defective so I traded it in for a replacement at best buy. Same issue. Such a shame becuase I really like everything else about this phone and wifi was never an issue on my last HTC device.
kernel changes affect wifi. some of the cm10 builds have known wifi issues.
i would never think of returning a phone because of an experience with a custom rom, since the phone wasn't built to run that rom.
always revert to full stock and see if you still have the issue. also updated ota/ruu are made to fix issues also. at&t rom doesn't have many stock wifi issues, but you can always run into issues with wifi access point incompatibilities.
Is anyone else noticing that their WiFi doesn't exactly drop, but just stops working apparently at random?
I notice this when sending a message via Hangouts, it won't send for a minute or two. Just three bouncing dots. My WiFi still shows connected, but the message doesn't send.
Same with Hangouts video chat. It will freeze up on me, and have a poor connection/experience, but when I switch to T-Mobile's network, no issues.
I haven't had this WiFi issue on any other devices in my home. (Droid Incredible, Galaxy Nexus, HP Touchpad w/Jelly Bean).

Just received mine, I'll check it on my home Wi-Fi. My work Wi-Fi is suspect because the building is old and we've had a tough time getting things to work around here. Lol.

Is anyone else noticing that their WiFi doesn't exactly drop, but just stops working apparently at random?

Artem Russakovskii posted on g+ that the nexus 5 has issues with networks that use a 5 ghz signal. Apparently using another channel solves the problem. Similar to the issues chromecast/nexus 7 has on 5 ghz networks. Changing it is worth a shot, most routers have an option to change it.
edit: (assuming you are using a 5 ghz channel)

This is good advice, thank you.
It's worth noting for my particular issue my router does not have a 5 Ghz band.

Just happened to me again with YouTube. Video stopped playing half way through. The only way to get the video to finish was to turn off wifi and switch to LTE. I had wifi optimization off, and I do not have a 5GHz router.

Even though my router is not 5 GHz I just went into my phones settings, WiFi, Advanced and changed the WiFi Frequency band from Auto to 2.4 Ghz. Maybe that will help? It seemed to work right away without me having to turn wifi off and on again so there is that. I need to use it awhile though.
Do you have any antivirus programs running? I had to uninstall mine because it was causing wifi issues.

I've been having some pretty terrible Wi-Fi reception. Especially on my school's campus. There will be a router on the ceiling directly above me, and I'll get like one or two bars maybe, and terrible speeds.
Just tried turning off Wi-Fi optimization, maybe it'll work better.
UPDATE: This seems to have fixed it. I just downloaded an app at 6 MB/s from the play store in the same spot I've always had problems.

I am having the same issue with my N5, there's a thread at Android Central discussing this issue: http://forums.androidcentral.com/google-nexus-5/329226-nexus-5-wifi-problem-4.html
Basically, if I watch a YouTube video that's at least 5 minutes long, I won't be able to finish it as the video will pause at least one or two minutes after starting. This is not YouTube buffering the video either, the video will just pause forever.
Another test is open up Chrome and type words into the URL bar. Auto suggests will appear, if I keep doing this, sooner or later there will be no auto suggest appearing, suggesting network connection is either dropped or became very slow.
I am connecting to an Asus RT-N16 router in 2.4Ghz N mode. Tried turning off Wifi optimization, and other router settings (20Mhz spread, G only mode, other frequencies, etc) and same problem persists.
Since this problem is not as common, I am suspecting this maybe a router incompatibility between N5 and Asus Rt-N16. Anyone reading this thread, if you are having this (or not) issue, please post your router model + settings. Thanks.
I have (2) N5's, a white one and a black one. The black one is very "flaky" with regards to wifi and battery drain. I initially noticed the problem with battery drain where it would drop 20% in two hours with <1m of screen time. It would also go from 100% to 4% over the course of a day with <50m of screen time. I initially did not use the phone much as I was trying to figure out the drain problem, but now that I have been using it more, I've experienced wifi drop outs, where the signal indicator shows connected with a strong signal. I have never experienced that amount of battery drain or any wifi problems with the white one. Both connect to the same routers. I have an Asus 802.11AC router at home. The only AC devices I have are the N5's and my laptop, but the laptop and white N5 has never had trouble. At work I have several TP-Link 802.11N routers in the ceiling throughout our building and a Netgear 802.11N router in our IT sandbox lab. I've tried changing channels, 2.4 vs 5Ghz, updating router firmware and performing factory resets on my home router and the Netgear at work, all to no avail. I've done factory wipes on both phones many times trying to find some reason for one to behave in such a way where the other does not. All I can come up with is that the black one is defective. What's worse, some days the black one will work just fine on wifi and I'll see expected battery drain.
Another update: I went to Paradise Bakery (sandwich shop with free wifi) to test out the wifi. The N5 connected to the wifi fine, but unable to get pass the 'Agree to EULA' login page. I brought along my work HTC One and it was able to connect and get pass the agreement page with no problems. I am beginning to think there's something wrong with the wifi on my N5.
