I have an xperia arc (4.0.2.A.0.42) that've rooted. I've found a rom that i want to install and I've installed Rom Manager. But Rom Manager dosen't support my model. So I don't know what I should do. I've looked around on google like crazy but I don't find anything helpfull. Can I do anything from the computer or someting? I appreciate if someone could help me with this.
Make sure you have fully backed up everything.
If you have rooted your phone by the revoulutionary hack.
Reboot into recovery and do a full wipe and then install zip from folder
Ensure the custom rom is on your SD Card.
And Voila!

Hello All,
I need your help regarding upgrade my captivate which is running on 2.1. I had hard bricked it once before when I was trying to update it via odin. Just got fixed it back from mobiletechvideos.com. Now I want to upgrade it to gingerbread Can anyone tell me any stable rom which I can upgrade safely and have 0% chance to hard bricked it again. Or any rom which I can flash via any other tool not via odin as I thought last bricked was caused due to odin. Pls help me.
I like the MIUI rom but I saw that it use ODIN so I am a bit afread to try it
Thanks
My understanding of the process.
I'm fairly sure you need to use superoneclick to root, that's step one. Next go to market and dowload ROM manager and install it, that's step two.Step three, flash clockworkmod recovery with ROM manager. Choose captivateMTD and let it flash. Step four, now go to the download ROM and choose an MTD ROM. I reccomend cyanogenmod as its aosp, overclocked and generally awesome. They have a stable build that's a great dd. Step five is to flash it. When the download completes it will promt you to wipe data and cache, clear everything and hit go. Step six would be to dl and flash gapps with ROM manager. Wipe cache and install. After all this you should be on cm7 stable. Pm me if you need help. I have the drivers and all files you could possibly need in my dropbox account.
Good luck and enjoy cyanogenmod.

please, for the love all that is holy, leave your phone alone if you dont know how to use GOOGLE
http://bit.ly/uoGYG7
I tried to download superoneclick via this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
All archive showing me damaged only 8 mb version is working but when I tried to root it via that version it shows me FAILED msg at the end. Any help in this regard ?
You do not need to root your phone to install a custom rom.
If you currently are on 2.1, boot into recovery and flash this zip file.
From here you can go about installing a gingerbread kernel and rom.
If you are unsure of the process, please do lots more research before you go flashing anything. If you brick again it's not my fault.

Step One: Root Done
Step Two: ROM manager installation Done
Step Three: flash clockworkmod recovery with ROM manager (When I clicked on it asked me that confirm phone model and when I clicked on samsung captivate MDT it said that clockworkmod not officially supported the captivate MDT and have you installed clockworkmod based recovery manually if I clicked on yes it proceed to the next screen and if I clicked no it said that without it rom manager will not work. If i clicked on yes it proceed to the next screen and asked me the clockworkmod version 2.x or 3.x. I select one of them and click on the install rom from SD card and then browse to my downloaded rom when I clicked on rom and it will ask me to backup exsisiting rom, wipe data and cache and wipe dalvik cache. I had selected last 2 options and clicked ok then it asked me to press ok to reboot into clockworkMod Recovery and continue the installation when I clicked ok and rebooted where it showing me 4 options: rebbot system now, reinstall packages, delete all user data and delete cache data. After that I don't know what to do BTW I downloaded MIUI rom as I wana try it )
Any Help ?
Its sounds like you are in the stock recovery still. When you get to the screen with four options click reinstall packages and it should take you to clockwork recovery. The you will have many more options. You will want to go to install zip from SD card then choose zip from SD card and then navigate to your rom of choice and click it. Then it will go through the install process and when it is done hit reboot now and you should be running your custom rom.

Ok here come the problem again. I install the update.zip from sd card and the phone took me into the clockworkmod recovery a new menu then I install update.zip and after that I click install a zip from SD card. I clicked on it and browse it to the downloaded rom and it asked me to perform the action and I clicked ok after that it shows the installing process again and from after that phone is showing AT&T logo then Cyanogen Mod logo and then showing it is installing something and then restarting again and again. Phone is in the same state and doing this thing again and again. I remove the battery and power on again and its doing same thing any help ?
Get into cwm again via buttons and flash cm7 one more time. Should fix the error you're seeing.

Hello guys. It's a known fact that people brick their devices by incorrectly using rom manager. But rom manager isn't completely dangerous, it is usable if it's used the right way, this guide will show you how to use rom manager without bricking you phone.Reported that it does not work with stock kernel.I am not responsible for any damage done to your phone, if you hardbricked it you have done something wrong. Follow step 1 CAREFULLY!.(u already. have to install clockworkmod recovery first then u can do this not with stock recovery....)First of all, you will have to install clockworkmod recovery on your phone. This is where some people brick their phones, the trick is to not use rommanager to do it. proceed to step 1Download and install rom managerfrom Google Play. Now, what you're going to do is to selectFlash Clockworkmod Recoverythena window saying confirm phone model pops up and should look like this:If you're seeing other phone models than GT-S5670, don't proceed!!! You will hardbrick your phone!!!2.Now you should see window: Click yes and continue3.SelectClockworkMod 3.x4.You're done! Rom manager will say that you have an installed ClockworkMod on your phone, nowyou can do what rom manager does, flash zips from the app, reboot into recovery, reststore nandroid and more!

I fragged up Android by applying an update, so I can't boot into Android.
I can get into CWM, but it doesn't see my backup... The backup is in /clockwordmod/backup/2013-03-17-14.09.00 . I can see it when I put my SD card in the PC.
However, CWM isn't finding it when it's in the device, and there's no option to direct CWM to where it is....
Solution anyone?
Bump....

Hi there!
What I can think of is first of all save your CWM backup to your PC.
Then you'd really have to flash a ROM to at least a version that will enable you to use the version of your backup: say if the ROM requirement that you had installed when you made the backup was 4.0.4 then install any ROM of that. You won't have to install any apps then.
You can then install X-parts from Google Play and with that CWM but that will not be a "stuck-on" CWM as any ROM upgrade will remove it BUT the beauty of it is that in your backup [which you'll then copy from your PC to the same folder you describe above make a Restore] you have the CWM that will stick and from there on won't have to worry.
Sounds like a bit of work but personally I don´t see a way around it...this is what I would do to get things as before.
Hope this works for you and do let me know.
Oh and don't forget to click THANKS.

Yea, what I ended up doing was installing a stock ROM, then installing Rom Manager. From ROM manager the backup installs no problem... But if booting directly to recovery, it can't find it, even though it's in the standard spot... It seems halfway pointless to me to have a backup that can't be restored from recovery... but who am I to judge :silly:

Okay... I think I found what the problem was. From within CWM App, I changed storage to external as opposed to internal, now the backups are found from recovery. Not 100% sure that's what the issue was, because I've wiped and installed a couple different ROMs since having the issue.

Hi there mate!
Thanks for sharing what the prob was at the end of it all...I surely learned something and my THANKS to you is given.
See ya around the Forum...
Just got my first device rooted.
Now i have installed a ROM.
I feel awesome.
But then i read this
"With ROM Manager you can back up your existing ROM, flash new ROMs, and install custom themes or kernels. It features a long list of ROMs which is frequently updated and you can install ROMs to the SD card or OTA (over the air). If you want to unlock features like premium ROMs, update notifications, and automatic backups, then you’ll need to spring for the premium version."
So now i am trying to figure out what custome themes are and what custom kernels are compared to the Avatar ROM i installed.

Now let me put this simple. The ROM is the operating system of your device (OS). You know what a theme is. Its just changing the way things look can be your icons, interface shade/colour,etc. Its just visuals. And the next is kernel. Kernels are the thing which links your OS and hardware. Literally they are responsible for the way your phone behaves. Custom kernels has tweaks whicj can improve your device's performance, the battery drain, way your processor's I/O works.. It helps you to do things like over clock and under clock, etc. But it is risky as your manufacturer has made a stable kernel for your device and these custom kernels may be unstable. Sure thing you dont want to mess with em unless you know what you are doing. Now as you have choice to do things like changing ROMs and Kernels using Rom manager, i would recommend you to use CWM and flash zip files which has ROMs and Kernels made specifically for your device as this is more safe. But be sure to have a backup as installing something not meant for your device will brick it. Dont worry. Have a backup and also Odin with stock rom incase its really hard bricked. If it helped hit thanks button plz..

Awesome now i have a good hint of what each thing are.
Now this lead me to some more questions.
Since i have already rooted my device. I have installed Avatar ROM and tested some others...
But i never made any backups... Is it to late for that?
Is my best choice to download Titanium Backup and backup everything with that application?
You said something else about Odin, how to backup aswell with that?
What is CWM and how does it differ from Rom Manager?
When i install a ROM i download a zip file, put it on my device SD card
Boot the phone in and wipe data, wipe cache, wipe delvik (or whatever it is called) and last install the new .zp file.

CWM is clockword mod recovery. An advanced recovery which has more options than stock recovery. I guess you already has cwm. Probably it must be what you used to flash the Rom and clear cache. Now to Titanium backup, it backs up the whole phone, so do cwm. As we use CWM for our flashing and other things, cwm backups should be enough unless you got space on your sd to have many backup files. And if your phone is working perfectly right now then its never late to take a cwm backup as if you ever encounter a bootloop while tweaking, you can restore your phone. Sometimes even cwm fails to fix your phone. This is where Odin comes in handy. Odin is a pc software which can be used to flash the stock Rom of your device. You can search and find the Stock Rom for your device and region if you google. You can find how to flash using odin guides out there. Flashing stock rom via odin will remove every traces of ever tweaking your phone which includes rooting, flashing of custom roms and kernels, etc. Your device will be just like when you bought it. This is helpful when you want to take your phone to service centres as rooting and doing other stuffs will void your warranty. Hopes this helps...

CWM is a shell and not an app and it cannot be installed on android os so you cant access it through your Rom but you can run it whenever you need it but through stock recovery. CWM comes as a .zip file which should be selected from stock recovery or in other words flash it. It will open cwm recovery. And you can access advanced recovery options which stock recovery doesn support. Well search and download cwm for your device, place it sd card root(not inside any folder), run it using install update option on your stock recovery, it will open cwm which will be in yellow colour themed. Select backup and restore opt in it and select backup. That will take care of taking full backup of your device.

Well.. Thats good to hear. And there was none other than me. And anyway a small precaution, never interrupt while you are flashing through Odin coz it will hard brick your device which is literally R.I.P to your device.
So after a lot of pain and toil, i managed to root my chinese Tudou91 D1. I want to make a backup which i can "install update from sd" and bring everything back to normal! everything is stock, just that i have root access. I read something about bootloader on other forums but i'm unsure. So i basically want to create an update.zip which i can install from recovery.
Please dont tell me to go search because i have and they all talk about their own phones, and none of them use stock recovery.
Please help and thanks.
PS. I got rom manager and wanted to install TWRP or CWM but it said device is unsupported, so i don't want to risk it.

Unfortunately you can not create a NANDROID backup, or restore one, from stock recovery. You need a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM to do that. I see that your device is unsupported, but it's the only way.
I know recoveries can be ported, so maybe you can find if anyone has done it already. Or read about porting if you feel like trying it for yourself.
Good luck
