ICS and encryption - T-Mobile LG G2x

Has anyone had any luck with encrypting this phone with ANY of the ICS ROMs out there? my exchange server requires this, and in 2.3.4 the phone didn't support this, therefor it wasn't required.

HTC Magic on vodafone No Netfiltering

Hi Folks,
HTC & android noob of two days .....
Having been though the various posts (rooting etc) and tried a few things I cant seem to find anything to do with enabling net filtering on my unit. Having downloaded relentless router and HTC sync to sort this I have found that HTC Sync will not work at all with the vodafone version of the sapphire. Is there a way round this where I can get rooted and hopefully get the wifi-tether app working???
Thanks
Most roms on this board have a kernel with netfilter/iptables. If you are looking for a rooted donut rom built for speed I would recommend Dwang 1.1x, CyanogenMod is also great and has a lot of additional features. Don't really know about SenseUI roms though, I don't use them as I need to use Bluetooth.
If your phone is only 2 days old then you will probably have the perfected spl, you'll need to downgrade your firmware to 1.5 and then root it using the 'one click method' more details about this are elsewhere on the board, then you can flash any rom you like. I use Dwang's rom with aNetshare for wifi tethering and it works fine ... not sure if this would also work with htc sync though?
I have tried to perfor the oneclick method, but cant seem to get the usb driver to work with it. I can see the SD card but fastboot cant see my device. Ive treied updating the usb driver also to no avail....it is a vodfone version. Anyone any ideas?

No WIFI tethering running stock HTC Inspire Gingerbread ROM

I am running the stock version of Gingerbread on my phone and just noticed today that the WIFI tethering option is not working. I don't live in the US and my phone is SIM unlocked.
When I select the WIFI tethering option I get a message to contact AT&T to purchase a tethering plan, I guess they did this to prevent people in the US from doing it since it was possible to do it with the Froyo version by deleting the APN settings.
I downloaded a widget that let me do the tethering once but not anymore.
Has anyone found a workaround for this?
Yes. Quit using the att stock rom.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App

follow this and use the guide to get free wifi teather on your phone.
http://www.unigizmo.com/1696/steps-by-steps-guide-–-to-enable-data-tethering-on-htc-inspire-4g
That will only work for Froyo but not Gingerbread . The new ROM won't even let you use those APN settings
I guess I will have to go back to stock Froyo. I did rooted once and instaled Coredroid but had to many annoying issues. Oh well hopefully someone will find a fix that doesn't involved rooting and whatnot. But thanks anyways
I have the GB too and I can confirm the old workaround doesn't work around and more.
I'm hoping for a new way .... Does anyone know of a fix or a 3rd party app that will provide the same functionality?
I've never "rooted" a phone before. I have the HTC Inspire and I was hoping to.
Can I root the GB version that is already installed? There is a Wireless Tethering app that won't work and asks .... Is your device rooted?
Hi everyone,
So far I haven't found any fix for the WIFI tethering or an app available in the Android market that will bypass that. So I just went back to Stock Froyo using the official RUU from HTC
About rooting, yeah sounds a bit complicated but if you follow all the steps then you'll be fine. I was kinda scared when I attempted to root my phone. I used the hack kit or whatever was called and I worked, make a search and you will find the guide. Then I installed CoreDroid V7 but it had some annoying issues, no random reboots or force closes though. Then after a week of using that ROM I read about the GB official updated and I downloaded the RUU. I gotta say the phone got a bit faster but today I discovered the WIFI tethering thing and it is something I use, maybe not all the time but is a great tool when there is no WIFI available to connect your computer to the Internet.
I shall update to GB when someone finds a fix for that. Good luck you all
Something you can try. I don't know if it will still work but if you turn airplane mode on and all at&t signal is off then turn on your wifi and go to the market and search for wifi tether apps.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I did try that. What I did was to put the phone in AP mode and it would let me activate the tethering option but as soon as I enabled the mobile connection I would get the same message that I need to call bla bla.
But Froyo will do alright for me right now. I didn't see any noticeable changes in the GUI in comparison with GB but GB does manage the resources better and improves the battery life. Next time I'll get a phone that is not carrier branded LOL
Bobbypty, I am having the exact same problem and want to do what you did when you say "So I just went back to Stock Froyo using the official RUU from HTC."
Can you please point me in the right direction as to how to obtain Stock Froyo from HTC? I have been to their site and can't find it, and I've searched the forums here and elsewhere on the web and can't find anything specific to this. I would really appreciate your help since it sounds like you have done EXACTLY what I want to do!
What's up?
Here is the direct download for the RUU and this will install the stock 2.2 for the phone. You will need to install the HTC sync in order to run it. Just double clicked on the exe file and you shouldn't have any problems. Make sure your phone has 30%+ of battery.

Or go here and the download link is there

Is that going to downgrade radio as well? Thanks in advance.
Yup.
Everything will go back to stock. Radio version 12.39.60.19H_26.06.04.06_M Android version 2.2.1
Hi everyone,
Seems that there is no fix for this right now since the ROM for this phone is branded by ATT unlike the Desire HD (Close sister to this phone) is a unbranded HTC ROM.
So pretty much the options we have is either to go back to stock Froyo or root the phone and then install a custom ROM that is based off the DHD Gingerbread ROM, I've been reading other forums and the custom ROMs based from the Inspire 4G will still have the WIFI tethering option blocked, so stay away from those. Make sure the ROM you are installing is based from the DHD. Try Coredroid, Cyanogenmod or whatever you like. Rooting this phone is not that complicated and I was able to do it with a little help.
Good luck with the rooting/flashing if you decide to go for that. Search for Ace Hack Kit for instructions.
I was able to get wireless tethering working on an AT&T gingerbread ROM, I modifed the apn xml before i flashed it, I modified APN Type to * for all of the AT&T / ATT/ medianet entries in the file (except for the mms apn that exists in there). I can upload my file when I get home or you can download my ROM from the rom thread (static nonsense) and grab it from /system/etc. Theres also an apn file in /system/framework/framework-res.apk inside the xml folder, Mine is more or less blank, so you may want to replace that file as well. Just a thought anyways

That's essentially what I did in InspirePhacopida and that works on my phone, but I was able to do it on my wife's stock phone by just adding an APN, so who knows?
Hi Gene and beerbaronstatic,
First of all thanks for the assistance.
I guess that for me to do that I'll have to flash the ROM via rooting and whatnot or did you modify a file within the RUU so I can just run that and flash it as if I was the regular ROM?
Regards
Robert

No. You can't modify an RUU zip. They are signed by HTC. If you modify one, or make an unsigned one from scratch, then you must have S-OFF so that the hboot loader ignores the signature (or lack thereof).
This is Gingerbread 2.3.3 on the Inspire NOT Froyo 2.2
Thanks anywho....
Yes. The WIFI tethering option WILL NOT work on the stock Gingerbread ROM of the HTC Inspire, this will only work with stock Froyo by manually setting the APN.
If you want to have the WIFI tethering option with GB, then you will have to root the phone to install a custom ROM based off the Desire HD which is the European version of the Inspire. Coredroid is the only one I've used so far but right now I went back to stock Froyo.

Please help solve software issues w/ Captivate i896. Advice on installing custom ROMS

Hello everybody,
I´ve got a Rogers Captivate i896 with Firmware version 2.2 (stock Rogers firmware(Canada), flashed 1 year ago, upgrading from 2.1 stock)
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Modem version UXJL1
Rooted, unlocked and 1 click Lagfix
I´m on Rogers network.
Problems:
1) Many applications stop working once updated. IM+ version 4.xx works, anything higher crashes on start. Same story happens with LOTS of apps from Playstore, so I´m forced to be careful when updating apps. This is becoming super-annoying.
2)Recently, installed DROIDVPN and TUN.KO installer to use Dell voice on an Unlimited Mobile Browsing plan(crippled data for WAP browsing). It worked beautifully for 1 day, now starting DROIDVPN or TUN.KO makes the phone restart.
3)I´d like to get rid of built-in garbage, most of which I do not use, to have more control over running apps, especially those that hang themselves into start-up.
4) I´d like to get better battery life. I use my phone more and more, I´ve got 2 batteries and and external charger, and yet i sometimes have trouble getting to the end of the day without my phone dying/I]
Solutions.
I imagine that the only explanation for apps that simply refuse to work is that they are designed for newer Android systems. This happened with Skype that didn´t work with Eclair, but does work with 2.2.
Should I upgrade to ICS?
I have some experience flashing, yet I´m far from an expert. What´s the most fail-safe plan of actions? Would the following work:
1)Backup everything using TitaniumBackup
2)Install custom bootloader that would allow me to flash install.zip from external SD card
3)Choose a custom ROM based on user feedbacks, like Cyanogen MOD.
4)Restore all the apps
5)Experiment with different modem firmware to see which gives me best performance
I no longer have time to tinker around in the dark, so I´d like to have a plan before I get started. Any input on the possible solutions to the problems I´m experiencing?
Thank you in advance.

Just a question: why haven't you upgraded to Rogers official GB?
And BTW, ICS is a massive improvement over 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3.
I have a great experience with this ICS Rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522881
But there are others that are just as good I'm sure.
My 2 cents:
Stay away from ICS. It has the ability to damage your SD card.
Use this post to upgrade to gingerbread. Then use the utility in my signature to get root and cwm. Then choose a GB based ROM that suits your needs. May I suggest Legend?
¨Use this post to upgrade to gingerbread. Then use the utility in my signature to get root and cwm¨
Wouldn´t it be wiser to get clockwork mod before any upgrading just in case things go bad? I vaguely remember using clockworkmod last time I dealt with flashing, isn´t it a loader that allows you to load install.zip from SD card? Or would flashing a new system wipe out the mod as well?
How exactly can ICS damage SD card. Are you talking about the external SD or the built-in SD storage in the phone?
I´ve read partially the threads on Legend and Android Open Kang Project - captivatemtd - Milestone 6. Both sound pretty good. As far as you guys know, which rom is known to give best battery life?
If you're going to upgrade to a custom rom that is Gingerbread or Higher, you will need the Gingerbread bootloaders. That is why I say to go to stock Gingerbread first.
ICS can cause the Encryption Unsuccessful bug as seen here. It will cause you to lose all access to the built-in SD storage. It doesn't happen to everyone, but when it does, you'll wish you had heeded my advice.

[Q] HTC HD2 WINMO 6.5 and Android JB 4.2.1

Hello,
I don't think anyone has yet posted this problem, but I would like to ask for help, maybe someone has found a way around it. I would like to have my original WINMO 6.5 booting in NAND on my HTC HD2, and then go to the file manager and boot the Android 4.2.1 JB from Clrcad and Haret. So far everything is OK, but the big problem is that however I try to set up the APN to get my 3G internet, it is not responding. When I remove the NAND WINMO6.5 form the telephone, and run the SD card android 4.2.1 JB via Magldr, everything including the APN settings work. Is there some incompatibility with the WINMO6.5 (possibly the radio or sonething else) which prohibits the APN's working in the Android system? Thnks very much for any help.

[Completed] Need help with my Sprint m7

[MANDATORY INTRODUCTORY SENTENCE DEPLOYED] Okay so as the title states I have an issue with my Sprint HTC One (m7) [MANDATORY INTRODUCTORY SENTENCE Complete].
The issue in question is lack of GPSability after flashing (you guessed it) Cyanogenmod 11 and currently CM12. I have tried multiple ROMs since then and all of them either don't fix the issue or wont install or work at all. So now I'm back to CM12 and everything works terrifically except for GPS...which I need...alot.
Now of all the research I've done on finding a fix for this infuriating problem has led me to believe that the only real way to fix this is to flash to a stock ROM, get a GPS fix/lock/signal/whathaveyou and then wipe and flash back over to your ROM of choice HOWEVER....heh heh I kinda un-acquired my backup, it somehow got erased during some blunder during the initial rooting process and I was dumb enough to not have saved a backup on my pc...oops.
Now I am aware that there are other ways of restoring my device to stock by other means such as RUU processes but I am not able to perform this process as my internet connection on my pc is dependent on my phone itself via tethering.
I also know that some have had luck by flashing new kernels however I have not been able to find one that worked for me.
So I guess what I'm asking is does anyone know of any other way I could restore my phone to stock using methods that don't require my pc to be connected to the internet, know of a place where I can find a flashable stock ROM or simply just fix my GPS issue outright?
I appreciate any assistance anyone can offer and hope I even have this posted in the right area. Thank you in advance.
You may wish to ask for help in this thread htc-one/help
All the best!!!!
