I'm trying to track down a weird issue.
On any ROM I try, if ads are blocked, my Splashtop Remote Desktop app will crash after 2-3 minutes. (Mainly when I'm trying to connect to computers at work. Both locally and remotely)
I can fix the problem by copying a default hosts file instead of a custom one. My question is... Does anyone know any lines in the ad-blocking files that could be causing this? It would be nice to have adblocking and splashtop, too!
Thanks
this problem sounds config specific, and probably occurs when your phones attempts to contact an external ip within the application and fails after several attempts, so it crashes. you would manually have to go through the custom host file and remove suspicious looking entries. It may also be that your dhcp as set up at work (im assuming remote access is vpn?) is I'll configured to contradicts ad blocking. Either way there is no quick fix or specific entry is can recommend. Part of the problem is that there are too many variables that only u know. Sorry bud.
Kinda what I figured. Odd thing is, it happens on the lge network connection when connecting home, where I know the ports are right
At some point I might try adding hosts a few at a time to see what happens

That's the only real solution man.
Sidenote: Have you tried splashtop on a tablet? Does the bigger screen reduce quality of video??
Splashtop on a tablet is very pretty. Tried it on a Sammy tablet and it was very smooth

Is there an app that can shutdown a windows computer just using its ip address without the need for installing a client on the computer.
Am looking for something like this to use at work on our domain.

Works with hostname. I haven't tried with IP addresses, but i think that works too.
You'd have to create some kind of server... you have to have something that will accept connections on the server end. Whatever it may be, including SSH, etc.
http://tweetmypc.codeplex.com/
Could do what you want and more but you won't be able to turn off a computer without a way (service or server) that allows it
smb
there'sis somethinglike that ... but it checks for a security hole in "windows vista and 7 ONLY" no XP""" Vista and 7,... ok you can connect to the same network and input the IP and NUKe it.."test for the security hole, if the machine has it, it will shut down.. now aday.. 5 out of 10 machines has that hole open.. so its 50 50 chance but still good to test!
ITS CALLED "SMB CHECK"
That's frightening. If your computers have this vulnerability, they should be patched... not exploited
But anyway... something that actually executes against the credentials of your system is definitely the way to go.
Been playing with ssh so I just connect to a pc from phone and issue command to that an shut any computer on network down. Shame there isn't an app that can do out in a few clicks.

Cool man. I can't imagine it'd be too hard to write one, especially if it's just triggering a bash script with a specified argument (of the host name).
Out of curiosity, are you connecting via VPN? If so, what are you using?
I'm excited for the release of the Cisco Cius and their AnyConnect client, which will hopefully be ripped (or released).
Not using vpn am connected to nw via wireless.
If a talented dev would take up the challenge and code an app for this it would be great, if only I could code

Try compiling wmic-client

nice .
Been searching everywhere for an app that will allow me to control my phone from the pc. Really need this due to my disability(and having just bought a massive galaxy tab).
I used to use my mobiler on winmo and it was great!
Would be willing to pay for the app also.
i think there is one called vnc server

Hi mcnally,
I have successfully used 'droid VNC server' in the past.
What VNC client are you using on your desktop? I have used tightvnc, realvnc and ultravnc (they all do the same thing, just differently)
I had assumed that keyboards & mice were configured automatically, but there can be a "view only" option that may have stopped your keyboard & mouse from interacting.
Also - sometimes VNC is quite laggy, so laggy it looks like its not responding! your client should have a setting to reduce the color depth, this transmits less data & can help the lag but you loose colours. There may also be settings to reduce data transfer further, like handling the mouse on the client side etc...

Wifi yes but i'd prefer to use usb, whatever is easiest tho. I was using the ultra vnc viewer, any other suggestions?
I use webkey, very easy to setup and can be used over 3G. You can even track where your phone is at the moment, or let it ring (like HTC's Sense )

Hi,
I was at Panera today and could see their Wi-fi, said "connected", but was grey, not blue in status.
Would try to find the Panera page accepting their terms, but stopped halfway loading.
It looked like the stats were DHCP and that's all I could tell.
any help?
Thanks

Yes...try the chocolate brownies...they are great.
seriously...no...I haven't had a chance to try Panera's but it does the same thing on my laptop sometimes...not sure if it's the TF...
Thanks!
Never had an issue with win XP Pro on my laptop....
Addictive place to hang out at
I have actually used my transformer at panera. Once you connect, you have to open up the browser and accepts their TOS. Then you are set!

And sorry, meant to add that you might need your browser set to a desktop string. To fully load their TOS

You can also try setting a static DNS (not any other part of the IP, let it DHCP that) of 8.8.8.8
Those are google's DNS servers and this often lets you skip the web browser login aspect of many free or even PAY wifi at hotels.

Ahhhh... Whenever I typed about:debug into the browser nothing happened..
But, then I went to settings and found that more options were there.
It's now under advanced - set it for desktop rather than tablet so that the browser won't load the pages as mobile.
I'll try it later today!

Yeah can you guys elaborate on this? I am not following this at all?!
Me too please!
interesting.
the 8.8.8.8 DNS setting made my Xperia X10 disgustingly fast from home....the only issue is that i had to assign a static IP to the phone itself...I just chose a random one that I knew was part of my home network...
do you think that will cause a problem later on?

I tried to find some more info or settings on my TF and couldn't find how to do this. Any help?
Thanks!
for the future, when the wifi icon is grey instead of blue, your still connected, but you don't have direct access to google servers which means syncing is down.
This is normal with any internet that requires a log-in page.
For example at my school i have to log in through the browser like you do at panera, and gmail won't update because the google sync dosn't have direct access. You can do a manual check, but it won't do it on it's own.
just so you know.
Anyone else having an issue with the XDA forums not loading entirely? I'm getting a scattered load, as if there's images or something being blocked by my ISP. I'm not 100% certain, but I've confirmed here at home (CenturyLink) and at work (CenturyLink also), both my work laptop and my home gaming PC are having the same problem. I've tried browsers other than chrome which I use normally, cleared all cache, etc. Then I tried running a web proxy like zendproxy to load the site to see if it happened through different network routes, and I was able to load the forums just fine... I'm wondering if some IP or DNS block was blacklisted by CenturyLink, or if there's a bad route/hop, or who knows what else. Anyone else? Any ideas?
For what it's worth, I'm tech savvy (Career in I.T. as Systems Admin\Networking)
I am having the same problem, it is almost like the css file is not loading properly.
[Edit]
In fact if you scroll down to the bottom of the page and change to a different style it will load all the way.

Hi guys,
Wondering if anyone can help me fix this issue. Only started occurring today for some reason after a reboot.
Basically I'm logged in to XDA with the app, however I can't reply or view notifications etc as it comes up with an error "security error (user may not have permission to access this feature)"
The same error occurs when I try with tapatalk.
Strangely though I'm still getting notifications like before, I just can't view them when I open the apps.
I can log in with no problems using tapatalk on my iPad and using web browser.
Tried clearing cache, reinstalling apps, wiping app data and reboot with no success.
Is there any way to get these working again?
Also, this doesn't happen when I'm on wifi. I searched these forums and google and found one post from 2011 saying to uncheck 3g compatibility in settings but I can't find that setting anywhere in the app or in general phone rings

Same issue, i thought at first it may have been redirects through tapatalk servers breaking. Disabled those, with crappalins. After doing that it persisted and then found links from 2012/13 where the problem existed and they said that any links that involved search would be disabled via applications to help server load(as they were under heavy load)
I can't confirm as nobody else is talking about it but I'm still effected on/off. Hard linked threads like "Q&A" of any given device will work but things that require a search like "participated" for your username don't generally work.
Not a solution, but sharing of sufferage.

Do you also have the same problem with the XDA app? I find it really strange that this behaviour occurs over 2 apps.
It's also started occurring intermittently now ; may work completely fine for 3 days then it breaks for a couple of days.
I don't use XDA app but it's not the app. All times I've read of it both apps are effected. Its server side whether mobile portal overload or intentional dispersement of traffic by server Admins.

I have a somewhat similar problem, I can't seem to use this app while on my home wifi, but if I connect to my mobile network (Verizon) the app loads and works perfectly. My home wifi always causes the app to say failure to load, even though everything else with my home wifi works. Ive tried clearing data, uninstalling/reinstalling. No luck.

First of all, you revived a thread from 2014 lol.
And second, around the 30th of November, XDA will have a big update, including the app. So your problem may be fixed by the upcoming update. Read more here : https://www.xda-developers.com/big-changes-to-xda-forums-are-coming-soon/
