[Q] Restarting - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

My phone (as of this morning) has gotten into the habit of restarting every five minutes. It's slightly annoying.
Any advice or help?
Thanks guys!

What kernel are you using?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA

the one from this thread- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223765&highlight=format+sd
im also using the Vlahala Black Final ROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1404863 (which disappointed me because it does not offer all the customization shown in the previews. But thats a different story.
I installed the kernels and rom on Thursday, and didn't start having this problem until this morning.
I re-flashed the ROM and am still having the same problems. And it also seems to be knocking out my data.
I tried to use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498 to unroot to get back to stock, however it won't let me cause it does not recognize the drivers.
What can i do?

Read the guide in the second link of my signature to help you with the One-Click and Driver issue. The screenshots in the VB thread are from an earlier release. You can customize whatever you want with any ROM by using a different launcher and themes for the different launchers in the market. The launcher is a small part of the ROM itself.
GoLauncher EX is what I use and is VERY customizable.

That got you on Gingerbread. The kernel from that does not have the reboot issue.

That one has the reboot issue. You can update to bryan's latest kernel ([KERNEL] (BETA) bhundven's SMS KJ6 v0.2.0 [Apr 11]) but note that although the reboots go away the battery will drain faster.

That's not uncommon. It usually happened to me around 24 hours after installing the kernel.

That's Heimdall, which uses open source USB drivers vs. the Samsung ones. You may need to uninstall the Samsung drivers because they have a tendency to conflict with the Heimdall ones. Also, try a different USB port as that sometimes makes a difference for people.

Ive used Heidlman before. It won't find any drivers this time. I followed the instructions to install the drivers and that part of the program does not recognize anything from my phone.
Also, the screenshots are not the release we are downloading and need to be changed. (my main gripe is with the contacts screenshot as that is not something that can be easily changed in another app/launcher) [but again, thats not a discussion particularly for this thread]

I'd uninstall both the Samsung and Heimdall driversand reinstall the Heimdall drivers to see if it helps.
Lumin's guides rock; you may want to follow one of those to see if it helps as well.

I use GoContacts from the market which includes a dialer. Themes for that as well.
And I am going to ignore your complaints instead of gratitude for somebody taking the time to make a badass ROM for all of us. If you think something should be done differently build your own ROM and do what you think is best.

Help with Valhalla-BlackEdition-2.3.7

its not letting me unmount system in CWM everytime i go to mount/system it says errror mouting/system! I had rc 3.2, i was flashing 3.3 when this happened. help would be greatly appreciated
I'm having the same problem...except I didn't even think to check it since it's normally set to UMMU anyway...so I flashed the ROM and I'm stuck at the Galaxy S 4G logo screen.
I was on Valhalla Black 1.6, or whatever the latest version before the hybrid was. I've tried flashing back to that and a few other ROM's, but none are working. I really need my phone lol.
If anyone has ANY suggestions, please let us know. I am trying currently to install the drivers on my laptop so I can maybe go back to an older set of bootloaders, but something is not working with that either...UGHHHHH
I believe this is a GB issue with most kernels. Try flashing the modded KJ6 kernel, and see if that fixes it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380331
A for the issue, I have had a similar issue. To fix it, I used Odin to flash back to Kj6 stock, Odined KH1 then XWM BH's's Kj6 kernel and then flashed the ROM i was currently using, following the instructions exactly and all was good...
I posted this in another thread concerning the battery issue, but it should work for your issue you as I was having the unmount issue with a different ROM and the battery issue at the same time. The ROM was a GB ROM as well (2.3.5)
It cleans out the gremlins

I'm not able to get past the main bootup screen, so no-go on getting to the market. This is the first time I've had an issue flashing and it's been a few months since I've even wanted to switch ROM's since Valhalla Black worked so well for me.
I flashed the kernel, but still can't change the mount point for /system...tried to flash the ROM anyway cuz I'm a dumbass and still not able to boot. I'm trying to get into ODIN to revert back to a stock GB ROM, or any GB ROM for that matter...my laptop is telling me the drivers weren't installed correctly. ODIN seems to recognize my phone in the yellow box (COM 5) but it doesn't have anything in the box above the yellow COM 5 box. (sorry for all the non-technical terms here).
My process is
1. Install Samsung drivers for 32 bit Windows 7 laptop (verified 32 bit...I've tried the wrong ones on a previous flash)
2. Install ODIN
3. Connect phone to laptop in DL Mode.
Everything is good except the damn drivers issue...bad link for the drivers perhaps??
If Odin says you are connected (yellow box), you should be able to flash. As long as your phone is in dl mode... The box above it fills up while Odin is performing the flashing operation

Stuck in CWM / Voodoo Lagfix

Situation:
Heimdall 1.3.0 / 1.3.1 (I've been trying both)
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2
Samsung Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V)
I want to install Valhalla Black on my phone.
I have used the Heimdall one-click roots (all 3 of them). At first, they would give me a rainbow screen, and the bootloaders wouldn't get uploaded because the PIT files continually failed (I tried multiple USB ports and multiple cables).
I then used regular Heimdall and a package I found here on XDA. It successfully flashed my phone and installed CWM Vodoo Lagfix and there were no rainbow screen issues. However, my phone won't boot or get past this screen (though I can navigate around CWM just fine)
I've tried installing: ICBINB (just in case the bootloaders were still Froyo), Valhalla Final, Valhalla Black, and as mentioned before all three of the one-click Heimdalls (I re-did them after the successful Heimdall attempt).
I even just installed a modified Kernel just to try it but no luck.
PLEASE somebody help me, I've been working on this for hours and Googling my ass off but I can't find anything.
I had a very similar issue... ended up that my laptop's usb ports went kaput. I got a new laptop and it works just fine.

I doubt it's that. My laptop is very new, plus several of those ROMs I tried to install via CWM, though I suppose transferring the file was over USB.

I did, yes. It makes you install it.
Heimdall One-Click is a stand alone application. The only thing you install before, during and after are Java before and drivers during.
Your problems are probably due to skimming directions instead of reading and understanding them.

I'm sorry, I misspoke before.
I have indeed done it without Heimdall. The first time I tried it I had 1.3.1 installed on my computer, but I thoroughly read some directions somewhere that indicated that maybe 1.3.0 would work for me. So I uninstalled 1.3.1 but before I installed 1.3.0 I tried the one-clicks again. Nothing. Then I installed 1.3.0 and tried regular Heimdall, nothing. Then I tried the one-clicks again with 1.3.0 and it forced me to upgrade to 1.3.1, which is why I misspoke.
Thanks for telling me my problems are due to skimming directions, but you really have no evidence to support that, nor is it a constructive comment.
The actual problem which you misunderstood was that I have thoroughly read so many directions that they get confused in my head.
If anybody has any ideas, please help--problem still not resolved.
Where did you read to install Heimdall before using the Heimdall One-Clicks? And I didn't say that to be rude. But you said you have tried four computers and none worked, and flash this and that in different orders, and are flashing GB ROM's with Froyo bootloaders. That is my basis for saying it. I feel like the proper order and methods for flashing are repeated over and over in the forum. You must disagree.

Obviously I tried all of them in the order that they were described, first. When nothing worked I started tinkering.
And I didn't read to have heimdall installed before the one-click, I just happened to have it installed. I can uninstall it and try again, though I don't have much hope that it will work.
Have hope and don't give up. Find a good guide and start fresh using the guide. Having other softwares (i.e. ODIN, Kies, Heimdall, etc) and other drivers will sometimes interfere with flashing with the different programs. You need to thoroughly uninstall it all - and then double check you uninstalled it all - and start fresh. Make sure you restart your computer after uninstalling. I even run CC Cleaner when wiping it all. Check the registry. Be thorough.
I will add that I have yet to not be able to successfully help somebody flash with One-Click who as PM'd me for help. Don't be so pessimistic about it.
you might try out my guide, but it sounds like youce done all of the steps that i have listed there anyway, still worth a shot though

[Q] Infuse Problems after Root

I have just rooted my Infuse using SOC 2.3.3. It has been nothing but problems and I can not figure out why. I have not installed any custom ROM's yet. The phone constantly freezes and I can't put any buttons on the phone and get a response. The phone locks and then the screen goes black and it does a mini reboot where it vibrates a couple times and then starts over but doesn't go all way back to the "Samsung" black screen. I have wiped the cahe and taken the battery out numerous times and still having the same problem. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Odin or heimdall back to stock, depending on your provider.
jscott30 made a very nice odin UCLB3 rooted package in the development section. There are several heimdall versions available as well.
you could also try to full reset if you haven't done so already.

Wifi error after update

Hello.
I recently bougth a SGS4G, it came with the original 2.2.1, and every thing worked fine.
I started to read about de updating the rom and got interested, after reading, I made de update using the one-click metode. I used the Stock_KJ6_+_root-One-Click.jar, it all went just fine, the phone run smoth, but when I tried to turn on the wifi connection every single time it gives the error message.
Does any one have any ideia on how to solve this problem?
Try it again, you may have had a bad download.
What error message are you seeing?

No its not a bad download. He used my oneclick and wifi is broken because blastoff uses the bcm4329 module.

Eollie - did you ever update the OneClick?
Just curious because just tonight I flashed your OC... or the top one in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498
Downloaded it fresh today. "Stock_KJ6_+_root-One-Click.jar (this has the blastoff v2.5 kernel)"
Anyway, the wifi wasn't working. I flashed AntonX's BwaT kernel to get it back.
Am I missing something?
Thanks!
----
Related: I would've loved to flash straight to Valhalla Black but even though I found a post where VB built an experimental One Click for that, I couldn't actually find a JAR anywhere. Am I missing something here too? Apparently FB isn't accepting PMs....
I'm not sure why you're looking for one-click installers for everything. The typical way to install is using a zip in recovery. You should be able to find a good selection of ROMs and kernels that you can flash from the recovery that it sounds like you already have installed.
The one-click installers are generally when you have things so hozed up you need to get back to a relatively clean, know state. They generally aren't for getting a fully functional phone. Your WiFi problem is likely the driver that matches your kernel not being installed.
FB is around from time to time.
In general, I wouldn't hold your breath on anyone updating software from a couple years ago. Older projects eventually get archived or deleted as each ROM build you are working on can take 50 GB or more.

Phone was super hosed. Would not restore a Nandroid backup.
A VB one-click would have been fastest.
Would gladly try a newer ROM but my wife and I use wifi-calling every day - until and unless somebody with a newer ROM figures that out, we're on GB.

Gingerbread is cool, especially if you need the proprietary WiFi calling feature. Several of us have poked at those bits and they aren't very happy with anything but the ROM they were built for.
You'll typically have problems if you flash a kernel through download mode "over" an existing ROM. Download mode is partition-at-a-time so it can't, for example, update kernel modules on that are on the same partition as the rest of the ROM.
Lots to pick from once you have custom recovery going.

Back to the original question though - did Eollie or anyone update the kernel in the Rooted/stock one-click so that Wifi works? Maybe it was just a fluke that it didn't work for me?

Back to the original question though - did Eollie or anyone update the kernel in the Rooted/stock one-click so that Wifi works? Maybe it was just a fluke that it didn't work for me?

And done. The second post has been updated with the new oneclick.
This fixes wifi and removes the csc update. Enjoy!
(note, after rebooting it does go to recovery, so you can flash after oneclicking)

I see. Maybe he just made it boot to recovery instead so you still have to reflash the kernel.

Help, Phone Stuck On Slim Bean

Hello all, could someone perhaps assist me? Now I know how to get my phone back to fresh out of the box, I have done it before to unbrick my device. However I am having major issues with doing this again. Last night I wanted to try Slim Bean, The ROM is beautiful and fast, but Tethering is buggy and my device frequently freezes and reboots, so I tried to flash Valhalla Black Edition, my device then was stuck on Team Kick Ass bootscreen forcing me to flash back to Slim. I cannot seem to get my phone recognized with Windows. I have a netbook with Win 7 Starter 32bit, a Desktop with 64bit Windows 7, and a Laptop x64 Windows 8. I have tried multiple drivers and Mini Kies and cannot get my pcs to recognize my phone. What am I doing wrong, somebody please help. My device is highly unstable. I have everything I need to get back to stock except to get my machine to recognize my device.
Hi
I used Heimdall on Win7 32bit and also on Win8 64bit.
You just need to make sure you delete all SAMSUNG drivers.
Then, when you plug phone to a USB port, try to make it to a USB port you haven't used yet.
If you do get the Heimdall screen after running the JAR - ask it to reinstall driver for the "Gadget" device.
You may also try to do it with both SDcard and SIM card removed.
Good luck!
Thanks, Ill give that a try, however I believe when I first tried it on Windows 8 No drivers were installed at all, my pc just states my device as an Unknown Device. I only have 2 USB ports on my 8 machine.

Windows 8 prevents unsigned drivers from installing, thus stops the Zdiag drivers from installing the drivers Heimdall needs. I'm in a rush but if you google disable driver signing Windows 8, you'll find some links that tell you how to reboot Windows 8 into a mode that allows unsigned drivers, then you can use Heimdall. PITA, but the only way around it for now.

I tried this yesterday actually, The problem is Heimdall doesn't Prompt me at all to install drivers. Which Last time i returned my phone to stock I remember a utility coming up and installing my drivers for me. I have the one click jar file. Do I need something else?

Go download the Heimdall suite 1.3.1 with the frontend (don't get 1.3.2, it was buggy), and unzip it, do the driver thing for windows 8, then inside the heimdall frontend folder, there is a drivers folder, in there is zdiag. Run that, that is the driver program, and do the steps to select the gagdet device, install drivers, then close that, then run the one click jar and see if that does it. Zdiag is the program you seem come up before probably, and for some reason it's not, but it's just part of heimdall suite, so you can run it separately and get the drivers installed, then the one click so go through.
Thank you, Once I get a chance after school I will give this a try. And major thanks on the 1.3.2 fact of it being buggy, I had googled zdiag and found out about the suite. I'm hoping this works, Ill reply later to report my results.
Could you provide me with a direct link for 1.3.1 frontend. Looking through the github I am only seeing frontend versions for mac and debian.
EDIT: Scratch that, upon extracting 1.3.1 I saw Heimdall frontend.exe Github just didnt have it listed as the other versions were
MANY MANY MANY thanks!! I was able to restore everything using my windows 8 Laptop Now a quick question Do i need to use the one click to flash bootloaders? I do want to flash Valhalla Black Edition to this phone.
Yes.
Actually you should not have to. If you were on ICS or the kj6 based roms then there is no need to flash bootloaders.
glad that worked for you. I ran into this a bit ago with Windows 8 and my first trying to use Heimdall since I installed 8 and had all those problems and driver signing off plus zdiag worked like a charm. PITA because as soon as you reboot, driving signing is back on again.

Almost everything from CM7 on uses MTD partitions. Slim uses MTD partitions. Valhalla black uses BML partitions. If you don't flash bootloaders you WILL bootloop.

If I had it I would. lol If it did change I missed it. So what am I missing?
Actually give me a few minutes and I'll put VB back on my sdcard. Oneclick without bootloaders. Then flash and see what happens.
You only need to flash bootloader when the current ones are corrupted or coming from a different version of bootloaders IE: froyo or early leaks of Gingerbread.
Nothing is changed in the bootloaders when flahing MTD roms. We dont have MTD bootloaders therefore we cant change them.
You are indeed correct. Just flashed a one click without bootloaders. Then flashed VB. Booted up and runs fine. Thanks for the catch.
EDIT: You are indeed wrong. lol So after it initially booted into the OS I just rebooted the phone. Now I'm stuck in a bootloop at the splash screen. I'll be back after some further investigating.
EDIT2: Just rebooted recovery. Wiped cahes and fixed perms. Still stuck in a bootloop. Give me a few to do it my way. Like flashing the oneclick WITH bootloaders. I'll be back.
Well now I'm back to stock GB with.a custom kernel and I tried to flash Valhalla Black Edition but it changed nothing except the team acid boot screen from the custom kernel

The bootloop has nothing to do with not flashing bootloaders. There is nothing changed in the bootloaders. We dont have bootloaders for ICS/JB. When partitioning the phone for mtd the bootloaders are not touched. Seriously its been explained by bryan and max I think even FB talked about it. Without ICS/JB bootloaders there is no reason to touch that partition therefore no need to flash them.
