SIM question for the experts.

I am looking to buy either a HTC Fuze or G1. I am leaning toward the Fuze because I am a former Tytn II user.
Here is my scenario.
I will buy a Fuze off of Craigslist and unlock the phone.
My sister has a Motorola phone...not PDA...just a phone...with ATT. The phone has a 3G SIM with a $15.00 per month unlimited data plan. I would like to move this SIM card to my new unlocked Fuze. Any problem doing this? I want the 3G data connection.
I would then take her Motorola phone and add it to her Family plan (with no data)...for just $9.99 per month. Since this phone was active with the 3G SIM card will there be a problem reactivating it with a new SIM card and new phone number?
The reason for the sneakiness is that ATT won't let you add a phone with unlimited data unless you buy the phone from them with a new plan. The options they have are:
1. New Phone with New Plan and Unlimited Data ($30 bucks per month)...not really an option since my sister already has a family plan and my credit is ruined right now thanks to my soon to be ex-wife's stupidity.
2. Used Phone with no plan and no data....not an option for me since I need unlimited data.
3. Used Phone with Pay As You Go for $50 bucks a month plus another $20 bucks per month for 100 megs of data($70 bucks plus fees)....not a good option either since that is WAY TO DAMN MUCH MONEY for data.
I really want to use ATT since they have the best 3G coverage in my area.
If the SIM card switch-a-roo idea I invision would work I would end up with unlimited data on my Fuze and a new number(on the Motorola) and I'm just adding $9.99 per month to her bill. SWEET!
Thanks in advance if you can answer my question about the viability of my proposal!!!!
PS....I would do the exact same things if I chose the G1.
You can always try it, but they can chaeck the imei version of the phone the sim is plugged into (so they WILL know you are using a fuze once you plug it in)
You can put the card in and use the data plan but att is always able to revoke the data because they become suspicious (i which most times you can just claim ignorance.) Like i said though they WILL know once you plug the sim in and you are technically liable for any data charges you may rack up once that sim is in your phone.
And by the way, you can add an unlimited data package, its thirty a month and can be added in store, online, or over the phone.
Thanks!
Found the same question being answered at HowardForums. Definitly works. Even better if the phone is unbranded...aka...Raphael. ATT won't list the number if it's not one of their own. Thanks!

Question about ATT Upgrading..

Ok so I am on an ATT Family plan, its just me and my mother, I had the Samsung Captivate and it broke so I need a new phone, I already upgraded so I cant really buy a new phone from them, but my mother hasn't upgraded and she doesn't plan on buying anything cause shes fine with her old Sony Ericsson feature Phone, So is it possible for her to get a Focus and give it to me, then Cancel her Data Plan Since she doesn't use Data?
Also anyone know how long that buy 1 get 1 free WP7 Deal Lasts at ATT?
Yes... you can upgrade and activate the phone on her line, then swap SIM cards and then cancel her data plan. I have 5 lines and have upgraded them and swapped phones around in any combination you can think of, AT&T doesn't care, they have what they want, your 2-year contract.

[Q] Prepaid Infuse carrier?

Hey,
I'm recently got an infuse off contract, rooted it, etc, but I haven't been able to make myself transfer my service too it from my other phone. I'm really torn, as it is a great phone but ehhh.
Anyway.
I'm just wondering if there is some way I can use this phone on a pre paid network or something. I looked it up and saw straight talk was perhaps an option, but it seems very confusing.
Thanks.
well you could use simple mobile. (they have ads on this site alot) you could the infuse unlocking guide to unlock your phone and use it on this service. they use t mobiles towers and have 4g (hspa+) in certain areas. their plans are 40 unlimited talk and text, 50 unlimited talk text and 2g data, and 60 unlimited talk text 3g/4g data. you should check them out.hope all goes well my friend.
thank you very much! are there any cheaper options? do you know anything about straight talk?
can i use it on att month to month?
Well simple mobile is one of the cheapest prepaid gsm carriers around. And I know of straight talk. But the only straight talk smart phone is the nokia e71 I believe and that's the only straight talk phone that uses a sim card. So you would have to buy a 200+ phone JUST to get the straight talk sim card out. And yes you can use simple mobile from month to month but after 30 days of no payment they will take your number and deactivate your sim. And another good cheap prepaid option is walmarts family plan. The only thing is to start to see savings you would have to have multiple lines that's why it's good for families. Finally you could check out h20 wireless solutions they have similar rates to simple mobile but they use att towers.... Whew....that was allot of typing....lol

Based on conversations on IRC with a ST user:
If your SIM was taken from one of th $200 Nokias, you can use in the Infuse. ST is a Tracfone reseller, which uses AT&T's network.
SIMs from all other ST phones are specifically locked to the phone.
ALSO: If you use a SIM from one of the $200 Nokias, you MUST keep the Nokia. If that phone is ever activated with another service, ST will drop service on your SIM.
Edit: Note, I'm an AT&T contract user, all of the above are hearsay from IRC a month or two ago.
i believe you need a $200 nokia smartphone on strait talk but never sell the nokia! the sim is locked to the imei somehow and if the nokia is activated again the old sim is deactivated. also i think strait talk is a reseller of many carriers, they have cdma phones and a few of the nokia smart phones are on t-mobile sim cards from what i understand. you can try it but i think ifg the sim has a "t" on it then you cant use it, only problem is you have know way to know which sim will be in the phone you are buying.
many of those prepay services have one of a number of methods to lock the phone to their network. do as much research as posible before dropping cash on a device that might be useless
I though Att itself has a pay as you go with no contracty plain also tat works for this for for $5 data (10 mb ha) and $.010 a min talk.

So theoretically, you could buy the 200 phone, and buy the cheap ass phone......in separate transactions, from Wal-mart and then use the expensive sim card, but put the cheap sim card in the expensive phone pkg and return the phone......only if you are evil!
I understand you could use the GoPhone plans, but you will need a new sim card, and also have to have a data plan to go with it, not sure how much the Simple Mobile plans are they talk about, but your looking at around 55-60$ for GoPhone plans with minimum data. 50$ unlimited talk and text and 5$for 10mb. Tops is 25$for 500mb, thats still not a lot of data though. I think 10mb for a phone is a joke, in my opinion. Maybe check out the Simple Mobile, you will have to unlock your phone for that though. Instructions for that are XDA.

No. If the expensive phone is EVER activated with another SIM, the expensive SIM you're using will get deactivated according to everything I've heard.

Yeah but if the phone is returned, after it has been opened, then its not returned to the shelf. I think it would be considered refurb. I dont know, but they would probably reassign the imei to another sim. Dont know. I think I will just keep my edge speed in the hope that when att buys t-mobile that I will finally gtr hspda.

[Q] $30 Tmobile Prepaid unlimted text and web (4gb 4g), work if i buy a new sim card

I planning to get this plan after my dad family plan is out in 2 month. I not very knowledge on t mobile plan about this 30 buck unlimited text and web( 4gb 4g plan), just seem to be true good.
I have few question to ask:
1) Does it so work if I just buy the sim card from amazon (hopefully) or t mobile? I have my own cell phone t mobile Samsung galaxy s and I cant afford the 400 buck prepaid phone that come with the sim plan. I am asking because all the research I been doing was from 2011 ( claim that it work only with sim) and now it 2012 with no new information if this so work. I planning to get it amazon(If it work) but I can go for t mobile (according to people in 2011 comment that you more likely to receive a broken sim card) for buying a new sim card.
2) if it does work, can I active right now without interfering my dad plan or my plan connecting to my dad plan ( I on a free ride with t mobile 2 month before he cut it off and switch to at&t), my dad internet plan is not unlimited and I dont want to go over it. I only have 1 phone and for some reason t mobile have an image of my phone information up on there site, so I dont know if my phone can only be use 1 time .
3) How easy is to active the plan? DO I need contact tmobile and what do I say or can it all be done online? Will it ask me for the EMI because I dont have a prepaid phone or the box come with my galaxy.
I think this is pretty much it. I may ask some more question if anything come up.

[Q] T-Mobile plan sign-up problems

When I decided on getting a Nexus 5 and Moto G for my mom and I, I was planning on Solavei. Unfortunately they decided to jack up their prices, so I am looking at T Mobile now.
A few problems I am running into (with both phones)
1. Both phones are so new, so it is not an option to choose when signing up on their prepaid site. Do I just choose a different phone and pop the SIM in anyways? If so, which phone.. the Nexus 4?
2. There appears to be two options. One is to sign up on T mobile with two lines. I would like to choose $70 and $30 plans for me and my mom, totaling $100 for the N5 and Moto G. When I look to sign up this way, it wants to charge me for a SIM "starter kit". If I choose to use their prepaid site, (prepaid-phones.tmobile....), the SIM is free but there appears to be no family plan option, so there is no discount on the second line. Is there a way to get the best of both worlds? AKA, Can I get a free SIM and a discounted second line?
I realize this is not the Moto G forum but information on both is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
With prepaid your going to pay each line as if it's sperate. Prepaid sim won't work with postpaid. You might be able to get your started kit free if you went to a kiosk or store and activated them there on the family plan.

I think you are off getting going postpaid. What features does your mom use? Calls? Data?
For $100 you can get Unlimited everything for you and UNL Calls, Text, and 500MB of data for your mom.
If you go to a T-Mobile store with your devices they usually waive the Sim fees. Also easier to pay one bill than paying your line and then your Mom's prepaid.

I suppose I got the two mixed up. The SIMs are not interchangeable.. where i could purchase this one for free http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/...ro-SIM-Card-Activation-Kit-No-Annual-Contract and then bring it into the store and have them use it for postpaid? I was hoping to avoid the sim card fee.
I am looking to do one line unlimited everything, and one with the 500 MB data for my mom. Thanks for the replies!
I just ended up finding this article.... saying they DO work. http://www.pocketables.com/2013/11/...-work-postpaid-plans-tablets-theyre-free.html
Anyone have any experience with this? Or any downside to getting this over the postpaid sim...?
