Alien ICS provides a concocted stew of TouchWiz, and ICS for your Galaxy S II Skyrocket. Samsung's TouchWiz functionality stays intact, but Alien ICS brings a blast of speed to the experience. There are very few theme changes with this ROM.Official Beta Tester signature:

Alien ICS #8 (full wipe - follow instructions below)
MD5 1930b67322b3849a1d46ca4d8ec69bd6
0) Take a Nandroid backup of your current ROM first!
0.5) If possible, use the OneClick at least once. Some things can't reliably be accomplished in an updater-script.
1) Flash my ICS radio if you haven't yet. Seriously, do it. (Use my CWM zip here)
2) Wipe data/factory reset
3) Wipe cache
4) Install from SD card
5) Format /cache from "mounts and storage"
6) Reboot. First boot will take a while, be patient (5+ minutes).
7) AT&T Ready2Go is busted this release.
Alien ICS #8.1 update (no wipe - flashable over any version of build #8)
No update available at this time.

DON'T KANG MY WORK! (yes, I'm looking at you).

15 toggle mod
It's not working when I install! I'm receiving force closes, sitting at bootloops, etc.
Make sure you're installing the ROM correctly. Remember that kernels, MODs, radios, and carriers can mess with your phone's performance and workability.
I'm not on AT&T and this ROM is completely broken!
This ROM is not necessarily designed for international compatibility. Please wait for future updates or attempt an install with a proper international kernel. I hear it works fine on Rogers, but you'll need to add your APN. Google for directions on how to do that.
Why is my device running/booting slowly?
Your first boot will take an unimaginably long time. After that, your device will continue to run slowly until the application cache is built up. Don't worry, the speed will increase as you use the ROM!
Why is my battery life bad?
Your battery life is often killed when flashing ROMs in CWM. For the best battery life, you must drain your device’s battery until it turns off. Plug the device into the AC adapter and let it charge until the image says 100% charged. Then turn it on and use the volume buttons to boot into CWM. Click Wipe Battery Stats under the advanced menu. Then you should charge to 100% and install the ROM. Battery life should be comparable to (if not better than) every other ROM.
Where's my bloatware?
Alien ICS deletes unnecessary bloatware that can be replaced by better applications in the Android Market. If you'd like the bloatware back, you can download the CWM bloatware installer from here.
Why isn't there a battery mod?
You can cook your own battery mod using the UOT kitchen.

Coming soon (its TouchWiz, what do you expect?)

Changelog:
Alien ICS #8
Based on UCLE2.
CRT off works now (thanks Samsung).
Ready2Go moved to bloat - its broken this release anyway.
Probably other stuff I don't remember.
Alien ICS #7.4
Updated Google Maps (full release only).
Fixed home screen folder size when opened.
Fixed icon placement between home screens.
Alien ICS #7.3
Updated Google+ (full release only).
Removed AT&T Address Book Sync.
Removed broken Yellow Pages contact.
Alien ICS #7.2 re-release
AOSP lockscreen addon available.
Hide IME toggle in status bar.
build.prop tweaks.
Fix Media Hub.
Alien ICS #7.1
Adding scrolling wallpaper both to TW Launcher and third-party ones.
Fixed a small bug with enforcing copying libs (would only have affected AT&T's navigation).
Alien ICS #7
Initial Alien ICS release.
Known issues:
The home button has a slight delay. This is common in ICS (check SGS2 for example).
Turning off Wi-Fi tethering will cause the Settings app to be unresponsive for a minute or so. This appears to be an issue with the Tether provisioning and does not cause any actual problem. Seems fixed in UCLE2.
Changing the Wi-Fi sleep policy increases battery drain. This is common across many phones and ROMs.
The volume slider in Settings -> Sounds does not stick. Use the rocker instead. This is a ULCD2 issue. Seems fixed in UCLE2.
Data may be flaky for some. It works fine for me, but buyer beware. This appears to be a UCLD2 modem issue. Another modem may help. Use my modem and this won't be a problem.
Email syncing may be flaky. This is an Android 4.0.3 problem. Hopefully fixed since this is AOSP 4.0.4.
Anything else that has been common with ICS from Odin (I really haven't noticed hardly anything to be honest).
Some people have noticed weirdness when coming from GB related to the Home/Search keys. This appears to be related to updating from GB only (perhaps files on the SD card). Flashing the ROM a few times and booting into it between each flash seems to clear this up. Alternately, try backing up your internal SD card to your PC and then formatting it.
Miscellaneous:
If you want to enable "Preferred install location" in Settings -> Applications, run the following through an ADB shell and reboot:
Code:
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db 'update system set value="1" where name="set_install_location";'

Thanks for this! I'm downloading now.

Love that subtitle! and your work!

OK, I installed this last night and all seemed good, except an issue with the stock browser (Google Mobile?) not saving my preferences. However, I got up this morning and noticed the stock Email program (not Gmail) wasn't deleting my messages. It wouldn't delete through checking the box and selecting delete and it wouldn't delete via "longpress". It also froze the phone (requiring me to press the power key 10 seconds for a re-start) and restarted the phone once on its own. All of this is coming with the vibes so I'm thinking it is from fc's. Maybe I have a bad flash or maybe its something I installed. I haven't installed much yet and everything I have installed now worked fine with the first leak Alien stock release that I have been running before this? I let the phone sit for about 5 minutes after the last restart and it all seems to be working fine again? Email deleting is working and no fc's? I'll test it more to see if it continues to happen or if it was just a "one-time" strange thing. Is anyone else having these issues? If the problem persists and no one else is having it, I will reflash later to see if it was a flashing issue. TIA

Sounds weird to me, I haven't noticed any of that. Perhaps a bad flash. Its always a good idea to let the phone sit about 10 minutes after the first boot to let any processes settle out. Maybe this could be related. I'd also make sure you're running the UCLD2 modem.

Just installed and EVERYTHING is running great so far. Restored apps with Tibu. Installed SuperSU then fixed permissions with ROM Manager.
This is the first time I've ran an ICS ROM without any problems.
Thanks Romracer...you do great work!

This is exactly what I was looking for. A tweaked stock samsung ics looking rom without all the unnecessary blue theming.

My auto brightness doesn't seem as responsive as it use to be. However, the rest of the rom is awesome.

I reflashed, and so far, everything seems to be working OK. Email seems to work OK and the mobile browser is keeping the preferrences this time. So I guess it was a bad flash. It could have been one other thing. I installed the modded HULU+ app the first time around and it seemed to work fine. Does anyone know if the regular Hulu+ app (un-modded from the market) will work on this ROM or do I need to keep using the modded app? I don't think the modded app would derp anything but its the only thing I can think of (besides just a bad flash).
This is an amazing ROM (as usual).
**Edit**
Definately something going on with the Stock Email app on my end. It worked fine for a while and then started not deleting Email like it should then it gave error messaged when clicking on individual Emails such as "message too long" and "connection error" and then a momentary freeze. Everything is set up correct (settings and servers) and "GMAIL" app works fine for Email. Its strange because I went into the Apps settings and forced it closed and then I stopped the services associated with it. When I clicked on the Email button again, it all started working fine again. Come to think of it, "Media Hub" was associated with it as well. I wonder if Media hub is messing it up? I'm pretty sure it is not anything wrong in this Alien ROM (everything else is working great), if anything, it might be an isolated ICS bug that only occurs in certain conditions or conflicting apps (like the media hub might be). I'll keep looking into it, but its not a big deal because the GMAIL app works fine (and so does the "stock Email" most of the time).
**Edit 2**
I derped my own golden rule....read read read...
per the "ICS bugs" thread...
11 - 04/09/2012: [CONFIRMED] There are known issues with stock email app. Syncing unread/read e-mails will not push back to exchange server email client. Also emails me not completely send and stays "stuck" in outgoing box.
FIX (Thanks dixit):
This google thread shows the official issue and show that it was fixed officially in 4.0.4.
https://code.google.com/p/android/is...etail?id=23534
If you scroll down to post 51 you will see there is a link where someone put the two 4.0.4 APKs from a Spring Nexus S 4G which fixes this issue as explained above. So just go to that link, download the two Email/Exchange APKs, put them in System/App, correct permissions, remove your two Samsung Native Email APKs, and that will fix the issue of emails being stuck in the outbox.
Here is the direct link to those two APKs off Post 51
http://files.devphone.org/404mail/
If it continues to be a problem I will try the "fix" and let everyone know if it works.

I don't think it was listed in the features... But its already on my radar. Making gallery let you pick a bigger wallpaper is easy (1 line). Making twlauncher use it is what I'm on now. Nova works with my modified gallery though.
Anyway, I'll have a small 7.1 update (no wipe) later today assuming I get time to figure it out.

[ROM][BETA 4.0.3][Evervolv-ICS-2.1.0-01MAR-HeroC]

This is now considered a beta version of Ice Cream Sandwich for the HeroC. Please keep all comments/communication about this ROM in this thread, and keep the Development thread clean for people actively working on the ROM.
No guarantees that anything will work, or that your phone will not be turned into a brick or a toaster. Please backup if you value what is currently on your phone.
You can use this with or without gapps. If you load them both on the initial setup, be sure to select "Setup Wizard" when the system first comes up.
In its current state this ROM with GAPPS needs around 155M in /system. I am currently running firerats at 160/20 just to be safe for testing purposes. I would recommend at least 155 for system.
There are some obvious places where we can reduce the size, but that will come as we continue to refine and move forward. Performance in not great, but overall it is fairly functional. Gapps are just some a minimal version to get Market working.
THIS ROM TAKES A LONG TIME TO BOOT (ESPECIALLY FIRST BOOT).
Boot animation has been added in 26NOV version. Please be patient.
This is a work in progress and there remain many Opportunities for Improvement (the gentle euphemism for Defects).
Working (at least for me):
Touchscreen
Trackball
Phone
Data
WiFi
MMS
Audio
Bluetooth
SD Card
Market
GPS
Gallery
Boot Animation
LatinIME Keyboard
Prediction/Dictionary
Network Stats (Data Usage)
Headsets (Audio Jack & HTC 11 Pin)
Not Working:
Camera
Gallery2
Graphics Acceleration

DATA ISSUES
If you are having issues with Data try the following settings:
"Data enabled" checked
"Data roaming" unchecked
"System select" Home only
If you still have issues with data, please capture the output of "adb logcat -b radio" from boot to completely booted and post it to pastebin or equivalent.
KEYBOARD ISSUE
Attached below is a replacement keyboard that doesn't have the bottom row off-screen. This is just a quick hack to get a functional keyboard. After some clean up and testing, I will include it in the releases going forward. Just replace the existing /system/app/LatinIME.apk with this one for the time being.
Reserved 2
This is also reserved for later use.
Nice.

hmmm after the HTC screen, i get a black screen showing nothing. Plugged the charger and shows charging light.. Still waiting for it, it's been like 3 minutes. im on 170 40 mtd settings. K nvm it setup just appeared. For those that are trying, wait for it.
EDIT: K been messing around with it (sorry for all these edit, just trying to prevent a lot of posts and I am awake this late so might as well show some heads up) but problems I found
1) Keyboard is half (missing space bar and the alt function)
2) Screen orientation is choppy
3) Im missing the actual market app, might be firerats issue
I found a pointless feature.. but using the trackball brings up a cursor lol didn't know it'd do that. Making it "click" u have to press the ball then scroll quickly rather than just keep clicking the ball.
Thank you ICS Team. Other than the items listed in the OP, I cannot get data to work. Phone is stuck on No Service and every few minutes will jump to roaming and then back to no service. If I try to call a number with the dial pad, the dial pad disappears after I press send, I assume this is because I have no cell signal. Could not test google apps due to no data. I was still able to play with the home screen, widgets, etc.
@ Majin101, my keyboad seems to be working ok, I do have the market app but haven't tried to use it yet. I am not using firerats mod. If anyone else tries to flash this, make sure you wait a few minutes for the rom to boot as mentioned in the above post. You will see a blank screen but it will eventually boot.
This is going to be a great rom. If you use a different keyboard you also get space and alt to show up.
Findings.
Okay, Seems nice. There is no bootscreen, so be patient, when setting up, choose "setup wizard"(this is kind of a no brainer, but you never know). Alright:
1. Data isn't working, I changed the roaming settings, but it didn't help.
2. As mentioned in an earlier post, the keyboard is missing some keys.
3. I do however have the market application. I used the gapps in the op and am using firerats 160 40
Really amazing work. The fact that this is even running on my hero amazes me. And they thought it would have trouble with eclair

I got the same error. It booted just fine and I thus ignored it. Would be nice to know though.
For those that want to fix the keyboard, just download ics keyboard from market. For those that cannot download from market, use root explorer to go into "cache" and create a folder named "downloads", for those that want to increase scrolling speed etc., flash the TweakZ.zip found in the android general forum here at XDA. I would also recommend setCPU.
I also got Random Offset 0x1ba. Once rebooted, HTC screen showed up then black screen. I waited 10 min but it looked frozen. So I pulled the battery. Then I accidentally formatted my SD card and the fun was over.
Sent from my HERO200 using Tapatalk
The "random offset" comment has to do with the flashing of the kernel. I'm not entirely sure but I think it has to do with the way the boot.img is packed. Should be harmless though..
Good to see you'll got this thing running though.

Another feedback!
pros
1) Ive been texting sending and recieving just fine no problems (havent tried mms)
2) Made calls talked fine (although my face kept hitting the end button..)
3) Installed swype, texting is fine now and changed the dictionary too english to get rid of those red lines under the words
4) Also increased pointer speed to just use the trackball if needed
other bugs:
1) Noticed that some of my notification doesn't make a sound or plays
2) When I play music its coming through the ear piece speaker rather than the back speaker
3) google map fails to login
Darn looks like I have to go back to CM7.1. People try to call me but my won't won't tell me someone is calling and their isn't any sound either. Also the gallery app opens but doesn't show pictures and apps are missing from the market but thats probably a build.prop issue.
-------
Just flashed without mtd and it seems to be working better. I'm receiving calls and can hear my sound now.
Great job guys! Running for about an hour and besides the above mentioned bugs, I've noticed one more.
When I put the phone on the charger it becomes unresponsive and the screen goes dark. No way to wake the phone nor is the charging led on.
The only way I can charge the phone is to do a battery pull and boot the phone while on the charger.
mines charging and im still able to use it?
Very Impressive, to say the least!
*note for the development team - you are the F-ing man!!!!

Random Reboots

OK I'm tired of seeing people complain about random reboots even though its been discussed multiple times. So here's a true story to help you all out.
I was on octane 3.0 problem free when I decided to go to Valhalla black final. I had reboots and force close issues. I went back to octane 3.0 and started having annoying force close issues. Now I know its time to start fresh from stock since I haven't cleaned the gremlins out of my phone in so long.
So I download kies mini for the drivers (since I got a new laptop in December) and pop in a DVD that had a backup of all necessary files (odin, kc1 and whatever was in fbs original gb starter guide, I want to say kg4). I load the kc1 files in Odin and Odin freezes at checking connection.
I unplug my phone, pull the battery, reinsert the battery and put it back into download mode (which is now a pic of a phone with a cord running to a computer), I then restart Odin with the kc1 files and everything goes through fine. I then do the kg4 files, once that's done I reboot into cwm and flash bhundvens latest kernel with the newer version of cwm.
Once that's done I flash Valhalla black final fixed followed by Valhalla booster. Now I've been running flawlessly for over 24 hours so its about time to UV/OC. Once I UV/OC, if I start having issues I'll know I need to change my UV/OC values, since I wasn't having problems with stock voltage.
Alternatively you can use bhundvens heimdall package that already includes his latest kernel. I just stuck with the files I already had saved cause my home internet sucks.

Thanks... I'm planning to do pretty much the same this afternoon. I had the reboots, but they stopped for a few days when I reflashed rc1.1 kernel... started happening again yesterday, so I flashed 2d, but still getting reboots.
Figured it was time to start back from ground zero.
I only had reboots when attempting to access the messenger toggle at the lock screen, Drive smart, and battery history in spare parts.

To add to what QUIETLYloud wrote - Spare Parts is GB supported according to the app description in the market, but it also tells you not all phones store battery history and if your phone does not store it you will FC if you select that option within the app.
Add: I decided to uninstall Spare Parts that came with the ROM and download Spare Parts from the market. No more FC on battery history.

Is it a completely different version or just newer?
Installed this and still force close on battery history selection. Im batting 0-4 tonight. /sigh
yes the messageing icon will fc and cause a reboot if you do not assign a button to it... I should add that to the op its inteintally left un assigned so you can assign whatever you want to it though tweaks...
Spare parts battery status will fc it was the only version i had at the time but the newer one should be ok if you wipe the data from it then force close uninstall and download form market ... If not wait tell they add better support.
There are a couple Spare Parts in the market. The one I used was Spare Parts+ (no ads) by DroidGram. It worked for me.
The weird thing is using a widget for the battery shows the history just fine. Spare parts is a weird animal.
So, I flashed Bryan's d2 version of the kernel yesterday and am now going on 33 hours without a reboot.
I'll leave it on the charger for the night and see what uptime is in the morning, if no reboots over night then I'll flash back to 1.1 and see what happens.
speaking of charging.. I am at 73% battery life at 9 hours on battery, so bat life is looking good

I think it is newer. But if you are using the one from the market, make sure you removed the one that came with the ROM.
I'm on Bryans 1.1 which has yet to give me any problems.
I've been playing with UV settings (always OC'ed @ 1.2) trying to find the right settings for my phone. I think I'm finally making progress, I had been getting a reboot within 8 hours, on my current settings I've just hit 12.
Once I hit 24 hours up time I'll adjust again and see how it goes.
I have the random reboots to and i used the back to stock one click, but I still get the random reboots. However, it only happens when I restore my apps thru TB. Is it possible one of my apps has some sort of "virus" causing it to do that?
Actually TB causing problems is an issue that has been discussed. Personally it hasn't given me any issues, but I've read after flashing a new ROM you should only restore user apps. So don't restore app data or system apps.
Its worth a try anyway. Otherwise one app causing your problem is a possibility, but depending on how many apps you have it could take a while to restore one by one til finding the problem one.

I am having some random hangups followed by reboot when I'm using stock browser. I'm on rooted but stock GB KJ6 with stock kernel. I never had such behavior when using other apps. and it does not matter if OC or not.
Well, I'll try another browser for a while and will report back.

Do you have an SD partition? I think you have to have one for this ROM, didn't think to test without an SD partition. A2SD is baked in. It would be great if someone could confirm this, cuz I don't wanna delete my partition lol.

Well in SS the a2sd version will still boot with no partition but it will reboot upon installing a app.
His md5 could be bad or maybe not a full wipe. Its hard to tell based on info provided

If you guys have problems with a ROM: BE AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE AND IT IS MORE LIKELY TO GET SOLVED. It's not just my ROMs we are talking about, we can't help you if you are vague. And logcats are the most helpful thing if you have a problem that is not in the OP. We are here to help but you have to help us to help you.

Well put, I used to hate someone saying this is broke and leaving it at that. Because 75% of the time its user specific or created so its hard for us to track down what happened. The standard for reporting bugs should be
The security type of phone eg s-on/s-off
Wipe process( most important part of flashing)
If the md5 was checked and matched. If anything else was restored in recovery or flashed with the ROM. But that's my opinion

Yes definitely. The more relevant information provided, the easier to diagnose the issue. Then formulate a solution.

Thanks so much for this, much different than the stock GingerBread I just replaced.
I've only been using Android about 6 months and was running a rooted stock kernel and dodgekernel, but I have to say this build feels much quicker and looks much slicker and has a very nice kernel built in.
I don't know if I was just behind the times or what but is that really just a skin/look change on the Play Store? It's extremely different and very nice looking to what I was using before (and about 10x faster).
I did run in to a couple issues, that are probably just user issues.
I've reinstalled all the apps I was used to but noticed that starting up a navigation, or music file or inputting an address doesn't bring up the prompt I'm used to of "Which application should we open this with". In fact I cannot find where any default tasks can be assigned anywhere. Whenever I go to manage applications, "Launch by default" always says "No defaults set." for every single application.
Another oddity that I think is related to this, when I hit the 'action'/'smart' button my bluetooth it just goes 'dut-dut' and does nothing.
I'm pretty sure Voice Commands is installed, but it won't come up and now I've installed My MotoSpeak and that will not respond either, and I think this is because I cannot choose that button as a task and nothing is set up by default.
Thanks for the help and the nice build.
EDIT: I just noticed that the CM10 roms says that "BT call audio." could be a problem. I know that is a whole different animal, but could that be an issue here as well? Its odd, my BT will play media music fine, but will not play phone/call audio correctly, just hear a buzzing.

There are ICS/JB themes you can download, but some of the theming is within the ROM. As for BT calling, I am only able to test BT by sending files, I no longer own a headset (My Planatronics took a ride in the washer).... Speed is what I shoot for on all my ROMs
Also... Did you restore data when you restored your apps? If you did, reflash and restore apps without data, it might fix your problem.

Absolutely agree :good: . A Fresh CLean install when first flashing a Rom will avoid a lot of issues. It may take more effort, and time. But it usually gives the best results.

I actually didn't know there was an option for that, how would you go about doing that for future reference?
Whenever I run a new rom I wipe data 3 times, cache and davlik and start fresh.
I don't use that many apps anyway, just some key ones every day for the drive, so only takes about a couple hours to get set back up and much of that time is just experiencing the new rom and finding what's different.
Yeah speed is incredible, I mean my old kernel was ok when run at 1.5Ghz, but that stock htc launcher or whatever 2.3.5 had would often 'spin' for 5-10 seconds when just trying to switch apps or multitask. There were other instances too, just felt like I/O speed was much different.
I'm sure it helped to not have any of the Sprint/HTC cruft to deal with, but especially navigating apps in the launcher, multitasking and browsing Play Store are beyond incredible, basically instant. My wife finally played with the new rom a bit and said she thought it was just 'too fast' compared to her 4s, she just "didn't like it". I have no idea what that means, but I for one love the speed. I don't need it to be slow to convince me it's working .
This is also my first time using link2sd, I didn't know about it with my old rom and was perpetually with ~40mb left (and a full SD). My trial of the rom and adding sd-ext was because I finally upped to a 32gb and decided to look around while I was upgrading.
As for exact issues: Pressing the 'smart' button on my Bluetooth headset does nothing, getting me 2 quick beeps.
Voice/phone audio through my BT will not work. It's odd because all media, music, text to speech, everything else works fine, and the microphone works fine for voice recognition, etc.
But when on the phone, it sounds a bit like when a phone is half off the hook, a steady, kinda staticy tone and every now and then a juggling/clunk sound (reminds me when someone on the other end played with hanging or half hanging up the receiver). I can switch to headset or speaker while in the call and both are fine, and bluetooth goes silent while in the other modes. It's crazy though because I will hear my gps speak to me overtop of the staticy 'lack of phone' while on BT.
The first issue I fixed: After much internet searching I found other users on ICS experiencing the same issue with the button and they suggested downloading Voice Control Test. It sounds odd, because I've downloaded all sorts of stuff and they work but I have to touch the screen to start them. But just as was reported on the website I found it on:
1) Install Voice Control (Test)
2) Start it up
3) Press the button on your BT
4) MAGIC, suddenly your phone brings back the old Gingerbread option asking which App you'd like to use to complete this action and you can choose to pick a default too, my choices were Voice Control Test or My Motospeak, for some reason stuff like iris and jeannie were missing, but regardless, I hit default, My MotoSpeak and now my 'Smart' button works fine.
5) Un-install Voice Control, button keeps working fine.
Also I haven't tested entering a GPS location yet, but I was playing with some other apps and again was prompted for that other action. This might have reenabled the old prompting for various commands somehow.
Also, I noticed that there was no option for 'Voice Command', which most forums seem to suggest is the old 'built in' app that ran when you pressed the BT button. I'm not sure, but that basic issue might just be that no default app was installed to begin with, but it is annoying that installing something like My Motospeak doesn't help and there's no way to manually set this to the BT button 'action'. Maybe having something lightweight like Voice Command in the rom by default would be a nice feature, the same way you have that light term emulator there by default.
Any thoughts at all about phone audio over BT? It seems so odd since media works and seems more difficult, like maybe an issue with how the dialer is handing off or passing the audio stream to the BT. Maybe there are other 'dialers' in play store, I'm not that familiar, but this seems like it'd be in a common piece in the rom that handles phone audio.
For now I'm going to try to get a voip/sip set up and see if that works, might be nicer anyway because then I can use data while on the 'phone' finally on Sprint.
Thanks again for the work on the rom.

If you are using Titanium Backup it restores app data by default, there are three options near the top of the screen when choosing apps to restore... Thanks for the input tho, it's something I don't really think about because I no longer have a BT headset. I'll have to look into it... Too fast? Lol there's no such thing.

This is a project I was working on about a month or two ago but put on the back burner because I got mad at it. It is a port from the EVO 4G found here. It was originally Designed and Developed by Provision Team. http://www.provisionmod.com/about
I used JellyBelly as my base for this and it includes Strapped365's Linaro o3 Optimized kernel.
Features:
Cool notifications panel with customizable quick settings
GApps baked in
a2sd (See instructions below)
SuperSU
Seeder.apk v2.0
Apollo
Choice of Apex or Trebuchet launchers. (I prefer Apex)
And much more...
What works:
Almost everything!
Issues:
No 4g
Bluetooth works for some and not for others
I can't figure out how to get the weather to work FIXED!!!
Navigation bar in Provision customizing doesn't work
Camcorder is broken
Sometimes the notification bar doesn't want to come down properly. So go into apex settings/Behavior settings. There you can use the swipe gesture of choice to show the notifications.
Disclaimer: Flash at your own risk!
*It is important to note that there may be additional issues I don't know about and as I am a truck driver, not a programmer I may or may not be able to fix things.
Everyone is encouraged to do whatever you like with anything I post.
Instructions:
Download ROM to the root of your sd card
Boot into recovery. (I use CWM)
Wipe dalvik cache, system and data/factory reset 3x each
Install ROM from sd card
Reboot system
Downloads:
Android File Host
A2SD: (DO NOT FLASH UNLESS YOU HAVE AN SD-EXT PARTITION)
http://d-h.st/kTT- Thanks CRIME INC. and jmztaylor
A2SD INSTRUCTIONS: Thanks drob311 and Halrulez!!!!
1. Get a properly formatted sd-ext partition. (Do not move on until you have done this.)
2. Reboot into recovery
3. Wipe dalvik cache and cache 3x
3. Go into Mounts & Storage
4. Mount cache, data, sd-ext, sdcard and system
5. Flash DarkTremor's a2sd zip (above)
6. Reboot
7. After reboot, go into terminal
8. Type-> su -> hit enter->hit "allow" when SuperSU prompts you
9. Type-> a2sd reinstall-> hit enter
10. Wait until it reboots. If this doesn't work, start over at step 1 and do it again.
11. To make sure it worked, go into Titanium Backup. If there is an a2sd partition at the bottom it worked.

Some more screenshots. I included 2 sense themes.
this looks great, thanks. as for the weather, i noticed a while ago (several months ago actually) that weather stopped working on all of the cm ports for us. i thought it was just something i borked in my phone or me not using gps and wifi location in google settings. i havent gotten around to it but now that google has its own settings app try adjusting the location settings in that instead of the rom.
I've been thinking the problem has to do with the web address the weather information comes from. All the google settings does is link to the ROM's gps settings...
Looks great bro, my power button is starting to go, so I will try and flash this before it does.

installed last night, excellent ROM. gonna fiddle with it throughout the day. i did notice last night though that when adding/removing toggles it fc's the systemui. tried rebooting it to see if itd help but it didnt. had to set it back to defaults and reboot to fix the systemui.
sorry, no logs since i removed all dev stuffs from my laptop a while back
I noticed the same thing earlier when I was first messing with it but at the time I thought the ROM was just resetting the systemUI.apk because it came right back on for me. This morning I changed a few toggles again but the systemUI didn't reset. Maybe after things have settled in that won't happen anymore.

well i messed with the toggles some more this morning and it seemed to be ok as long as you dont fiddle with more than 2 at a time. do 2 and let it save then do more, etc..
odd bug but systemui isnt crashing anymore.

That's cool! The problem I have with bluetooth may be related more to my headset. I've had a lot of trouble with it not working on several ROMs.
Arggg.... If you are viewing the toggles when you dismiss the dropdown then it becomes a pain to open your notifications again. It acts like it loses focus as soon as the toggles become visible and it closes. If you make sure to tap back to the notifications view before you dismiss it though then there is no problem

Guys, I am unable to duplicate what you're talking about with the toggles. If I close the notification bar while the toggles are showing, when I reopen it they are still there but all I have to do is hit the button just to the left and it shows the notifications fine. In face I've tried this with just a few turned on and with all of the toggles on and its the same thing. I wonder why they work ok for me and not for others?
Edit: There is an option in apex settings/Behavior settings that you can set so when you use the swipe gesture of choice, it'll show the notifications. Maybe this can help...

KatKiss ROM - Asus TF101
JellyBean 4.3.1MultiWindow
This rom is an aosp based rom with my own additions on top.
The main motto of the rom being Kiss. Even though the Meerkat could give you a kiss, it stands for Keeps it Sweet and Simple too
Which means that just like the other K.A.T stuff, the rom's main goal is efficiency, speed/responsiveness,
while not adding bloated features that will slow things down

Latest Stable Version: KatKiss-4.3.1_029.zip | md5sum | Other Versions | Mirror by Yebyen
TF101G AddOn Kernel: KatKiss-4.3_AddOn_TF101G_Kernel_01.zip The default included KatKernel is for the TF101 model and might generate reboots for the TF101G. If that is the case flash this zip after the rom.
Latest Gapps Package: gapps-KatKiss-4.3_20130914.zip
Older Gapps Package: 4.2.2 Gapps for TF101
FSYNC: fsync_on.zip (fsync is off by default in the rom, if you want it on just flash this after the rom)
fsync off will make i/o run faster, but in case your tablet reboots or shutdown unexpectedly you might lose data more often than with fsync on.
So if your tablet tends to be unstable /reboots, if you overclock too much or that you tend to let it run out of battery, you might be better to turn fsync back on
Please note that this version is made and tested on the TF101 model.

Additional info & links
Global Key Override/Shorcut Mecanism
Available in Settings => Language & Input => Add Key Override Actions
or in Dock Settings
This will allow you not only to redefine function keys assignment, and other special keys actions,
but you'll also be able to assign global macro actions / app launch to any key + Meta key combination (shift Left or Right , ctrl..)
You can also add multiple actions to one key combination, simply click again on the "+" button for the same key combination.
It might not make much sense for the moment, but once I'll add more actions it could be practical.
For example if you want to assign to one key combination a list of action to run before going to bed for example, like: turn wifi off, bluetooth off, mute sound, and turn screen off. You'll be able to do that in the future
Note that starting multiple applications with one key is kinda a miss and hit for the moment due to some mecanism in android that seems to prevent applications to start too close to each others.
Wifi channels:
Choose which channels are available based on your country in Settings => Wifi => Advanced => Change wifi regulatory domain
Google search:
If the version you're using is crashing when you open Google Now,
go to Settings => Language & Input => Voice Search
then uncheck Hotword Detection.
CIFS & 3rd party Mount Apps:
The Rom/Kernel have native support for them as long as you mount it outside or /storage/ and /mnt/shell/emulated/
GPS:
if it is taking a long time to get a lock or no lock, follow this:
Install the latest K.A.T app
Then follow precisely this procedure:
1) Location Settings
- Go to Settings => Location => turn OFF Access to my location
- Turn Access to my location back ON
- Make sure you agree to let google access the location.
Now you should have :
- GPS satellites: checked
- Wifi & mobile networks location: checked
2) Launch the new K.A.T app
- make sure you grant it root access
- make sure you have internet access
- go to the install menu, Check the "Install GPS quicker fix + Assistance
- Click the Install button
- Make sure it says "Install Finished"
3) Reboot
4) Wait that it has finished booting and launching all the stuff you have starting at boot
5) Start your GPS app outside with a clear sky line, to speed things up stay in range of the wifi / internet connection.
Do not let the gps app loose focus when it is trying to get a fix.
Do not let your tablet sleep / turn off the screen either.
Doing that here, the first time and with a cold gps start, and even staying in my house,
I get a 6 sat fix within 30 seconds and 11 sat fix in 1min 15seconds.
From there subsequent fixes takes about 3 seconds to grab 7 sats and about 10 seconds to reach the 10-11 sat fix
(you still want to let it sit outside for a bit after the 1st fix, so that the ephemeris data gets consolidated and updated to help faster fix later on)
Hardware keyboard layouts
More languages have been added in the default asusec keyboard
Set the keyboard layout through Settings => Language & Input => asusec => setup keyboard layouts
These also allow live switching without reboot with ctrl + space
Storage (fstrim) and Database optimization:
Fstrim is native in 4.3 and will happen in the background if your tablet is idle / sleeping and that your battery is > 70%
There is also a script to run it manually in the rom: /etc/kat/optimizestorage
To optimize the Database: /etc/kat/optimizedb
To run both, open a terminal and run:
su
/etc/kat/optimize
Be warned that the optimize storage can take from a few minutes to hours.
But the speed / lag will be greatly improved afterward
Slow downs & Battery drain after a full wipe ? :
Things to keep in mind after flashing with a full wipe:
- Media scanner will need to scan everything again, it can take from a few minutes to hours or days if you have a lot of medias or medias that it doesn't like.
During that process it'll use a lot of cpu and disk, and so can make things lag a bit and drain the battery until it's done.
You can use the Media Scanner filters to speed things up and make it scan only parts that are really containing your medias
- After a wipe, it wipes your battery stats, if you don't flash while you are with a 100% full battery, the battery stats will be inaccurate for a while until it learns again your battery capacity.
The battery can appear to drain faster because it doesn't know where your 100% is.
(see here for tips on how to speed up the learning process)
- Check that you don't have a rogue process eating cpu in the background. (run the top command)
- Check that you don't have a process keeping your tablet awake
MultiWindow
NavBar:
- To switch between full screen and split View you can use the
NavBar Button
(It will lay apps alternatively in one SplitView spot then the other.)
- To change focus simply Tap on the app or use the
NavBar Button
Recents:
- Clicking on the app Thumbnail works as before and displays the app fullscreen
- Clicking on the app icon or the
icon will switch the app to splitview and lay it in "automode"
(If you use automode when an application was set in a SplitView slot it'll be recalled to that previous spot.)
- Clicking on the other icons will force the app to the 1st or 2nd SplitView slot.
Actions
Actions to switch the app between fullscreen / splitview, switch between the 2 most recent apps and to force the splitview slot have been added
so you can bind them to a key / key combination with the Global KeyOverride or long press action too.
Note: Most apps works ok in splitview mode, but some of them might not refresh correctly sometime.
Same when rotating the screen while in splitview mode.
To force a refresh simply tap the app or if you have 2 apps in split, just click twice on the switch to last app button:

Storage tweak, inversion with microSD / speed boost
Disabling ext4 journaling : :
This procedure will increase speed and responsiveness of the internal memory by disabling journaling
Disabling journaling will give a big speed/responsiveness increase especially on /data where writing occurs
but the risk of corruption in case of crashes, reboots, running of battery... is also higher.
Make sure you have a backup handy !
If you prefer to play it safe you can use the 2nd disabling zip, which will only disable on /system and /cache which don't contain user data
Corruption is unlikely to occur on /system as it's read only, and /cache is just volatile non user data, so you can simply just format it from recovery if ever something wrong happens.
To disable journaling on /system /cache /data download: dis_journaling.zip
To disable journaling only on /system and /cache : dis_journaling_system_cache_only.zip
To enable journaling back download: ena_journaling.zip
0) Put the zip on your microsd card
1) Boot into recovery
2) unmount everything but the microsd card (that means /system, /cache /data ... )
(the script will also try to unmount these, but better be safe in case the script doesn't succeeds)
3) flash zip
4) reboot
Note: Disabling journaling should only take a few seconds unless your filesystem is already dirty (fsck will take place before and after the journaling change)
Enabling journaling can take longer, especially on /data (mmcblk0p7)
Just be patient.
To disable journaling you will need to reflash the zip after you format /cache /data or /system (that means after installing the rom or after wiping cache if you do that after installing the rom)
Storage inversion(inverts microSD and internal storage) : :
This procedure will allow you to use your MicroSD as the internal /data partition (which means /data, /sdcard, /data/media ...)
So you can now have whatever extra space for "Android internal storage" you like (ie what your physical microSD size is)
And your old internal storage will be used as /storage/sdcard1/
I might see later on to remap things a bit more logically, but for the moment it's kinda less risky and easier to remember to just swap everything.
Not that I care much about the extra space myself,
but the good thing is that if you use a good MicroSD, things will also be much faster,
and for example it doesn't lag anymore when installing apps and such.
Make sure you understand what it means and what you are doing.
And backup everything first of course !
As reference:
Physical Internal partition is /dev/block/mmcblk0p7
Physical MicroSD partition is /dev/block/mmcblk1p1
These won't change, only the mount points are changing.
The commands can be typed directly from twrp command line thingie, or you can run them through adb
(just add adb shell in front of the command in that case)
One thing to note is that the recoveries don't know at all that your mount points are swapped, so it will still show them to you the "old non swapped way"
It won't know how to make a factory reset while retaining your data for example.
1) Boot into TWRP (I use v2.3.2.3, it might differ if using another version)
2) WIPE MicroSD content (that means it will be empty afterwards)
unmount your microsd
Code:
/sbin/make_ext4fs /dev/block/mmcblk1p1
If you still need to transfer your data from the internal storage you can go to step 4) then come back later to do step 3) only
3) If you have transferred your data from your internal storage, you can format it too:
unmount /data and /sdcard
Code:
/sbin/make_ext4fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p7
remount /data
then
4)
Code:
/sbin/chmod -R 777 /data
5) Flash the KatKernel version marked with _invertstorage
6) Reboot.
Unless you transferred your old /data into your physical new microsd partition, it'll be like if you did a factory reset,
so you will just need to go through the setup again.
And of course, From now on NEVER remove your microsd card if the system is running.
Enjoy the extra space & speed
woot!
Nice job Tim, time to play with 4.3 ! Cheers
WOW! great job Tim...making a nand backup and going to try it out
Is there a fix for the notifications top bar disappearing ?
Normally I would just choose the Tablet UI
--
Don't think it caused any issues other than the error but I got: Process android.process.acore stopped working when it initially booted to the homescreens
Couldn't capture screenshot, Storage may be in use
--
Seems very quick indeed, nice and smooth, great job!

You mean switching back to TabletUI, yep TabletUI is not here yet.

Hmmm, I don't get that error coming from a clean install.
Did you properly full wipe + format /system before installing ?
Which gapps & launcher are you using ?

Yep still some work left to fix stuff and add a few features,
but I've been using it quite a bit yesterday and today
and it's definitely very fast and responsive without lag so far.

Yea I read that Tablet UI is not here yet, I was wondering if there was a fix to prevent the phablet ui bar from disappearing, the top notifications bar works while in settings, but soon as I return to the homescreen, only the bottom nav bar is visible, the top bar disappears
Same problem with KK ROM too though so not specific to 4.3
---
I did wipe and format /SYSTEM yep, and both caches between and after each flash
Im using gapps_4.2.2_TF101_20130617b-signed gapps
--
And yea, I never though I would see a ROM faster than KK 4.2.2 but somehow you've managed, and I don't even have my 1.4GHz OC running, its faster @ 1GHz than 4.2.2 was @ 1.4GHz
Everything seems to load and open faster and smoother, RAM usage is really good too 375MB free idle
It's just the notifications I need back now and I think I could use this as a daily driver

Hmm, first time I hear about that... I don't have that problem at all here.
Must be related to something you use, or maybe the gapps or launcher you use.
Maybe try with the gapps from the 1st post. and see if it does that after a full wipe and without restoring anything.

Hehe yeah, and I've not added back all the optimizations yet

You know what, I bet it is from the Control Centre setting for hiding status bar, maybe the setting hasn't cleared or something after I've been playing around with it, it was working on #224, then I flashed #225 and played with the settings, and thinking about it, it was around then that it stopped working properly (Using Trebuchet)
I`ll try clearing everything and going for just the ROM install
--
Looks like this is going to be a killer ROM once you've sorted it, considering this is the first release with nothing added yet and it's already kick-ass
Seems really good so far, aside from the already mentioned and known issues. I just flashed this and the recommended gapps atop 226 and it fired right up with Apex Launcher installed and is really smooth and quick. Also, GPS worked really fast and got a fix quick and I haven't even reapplied the KAT app fix yet. Great job, looking forward to what you do with it.
Tim FTW !!!
I'm happy that you managed to put to us the FIRST 4.3 ROM.
You're the guy
Balls, I forgot to Nandroid backup before flashing 4.3, now stuck in a bootloop after flashing back to 4.2.2, adb logcat is showing permission errors on everything in /data/app
I've tried fixing permissions in TWRP but it doesn't seem to work, just instantly says completed and stops
Live and learn lol

That's why it says to full wipe (that includes /data ) when switching from one major Android version to another

lol, you know I did have a full Nandroid from a couple days back, and clever me decided to delete it and make a new one before flashing 4.3, but memory of a goldfish in the time it took to boot into recovery I had already forgotten and just wiped system and flashed 4.3
Never mind, it was time to clean up /data anyway, hundreds of apps that I never used, there's always a silver lining with Android lol
clean flash with recommended gapps, nice!
first request is to get back left nav please. only left hand works here
nice job tim. Downloading now.
Looks good so far.
Thanks, Tim...
