I am typically a silent browser. However I need some assistance.
I currently have a t mobile Sensation and naturally s-off(Perm).
I am very familiar with flashing roms as I must have flash at least 20 roms with my N1.
If Sense is any different, regarding flashing then I'm having issues with my current speed.
All directions on downloading the latest rom and kernal have been followed, which prompted me to test my Dl/Ul speeds with speed test. I'm in a very good coverage area and on a stock rom I was averaging literally 8 dl/1.75 ul.-Mbps. No wifi.
On my modified rom I cannot get past 4 dl/0.75 mbps.
Now I understand we have a new set of oc that is built into the rom, however before I installed setcpu my speeds were not all the different.
Please advise what I am doing wrong.

wrong radio?
i have to agree, it might be your radio..make sure it is the newest radio and check your tmobile apn settings. try internet2.voicestream.com
hope this helps.

internet2.voicestream.com is NOT for 3G/HSPA/4G (whatever you want to call it). Must be epc.tmobile.com.

Fair enough, and appreciate the help. Now, this was a concern of mine prior to flashing as I did not even flash a new radio, as opposed to my N1 where I would go with the latest CM radio suggestion.
Where would I locate a radio as I still don't have rights to ask a Question in A&D, but interactions > date of registration.
you could try finding one in the custom rom topic you are using. Usually they will recommend which radio to go with the custom rom.
cheers!
Confirmed on the slower speeds, also using LeeDroid. My APN is epc.tmobile.com. Have flashed the latest radio..audio went back to shipping radio but problem persists.

Guys, try to manually put APN in.
thats why im still on stock rom s-off perm root. wants you start flashing custom roms thats when you lose everything your phone had from the start. its still in the early stage for custom roms for the sensation i will wait till around december before i flash thats enough time for devs to really work out the kinks. remember most off the roms here were maid before s-off so the devs really did not have a system to work on intill now

December wow lol. I'm running LeeDroid v1.1 w/ kernel v1.2 and it's already amazing. Everything works flawlessly and he got rid of the lag that was in the Stock TMo ROM. Plus Overclock'ed kernel w/ UV coming soon. ROM is super stable, fast as hell, and battery life is much better. To me it's a no brainier, nothing to lose.
Some of the Devs had S-OFF before we did, and most have been putting out ROMS long before the Sensation. No reason to wait til December but hey that's just my opinion!

I understand where you're coming from but the issue of people having problems isn't ever going to go away. That doesn't mean it's the ROMs/Devs fault. There are so many variables involved including a big one - the user.
Everything might work perfectly for one person, while there is a "bug" for another. Well that person may not have read the entire thread/wiped when supposed to/cleared data etc. All the things many of us who have been flashing a long time have learned to do by default before asking questions. I don't check all the other threads that often so I don't doubt you, but you never know until you try. You may flash now and have no problems. It's sorta like, if you don't want to "troubleshoot", why are you flashing ROMs to begin with?
Either way your answer of "this is why I haven't flashed a custom ROM" isn't helpful to the OP or any of us because we HAVE flashed custom ROMs
I'm toying with some build.prop settings as I did on my Nexus One and I'm seeing some improvement in speeds on LeeDroid.
I'll post more in a bit..

The problem has to do with the EURO base. After all my testing, this is why I am purely making TMOUS based roms.
XDA Member: Rsotbiemrptson - wrote to me, what discovered that all .RIL files and build prop from TMOUS had to be transferred to the EURO based rom for the speeds to match TMOUS HSPA+ speeds. Then repacked the zip, resigned and flashed.

Hmmm, interesting. Care to share? We could pass it on to LeeDroid for his ROM as well?
I think he is right
I believe the issue lies in not having the correct RIL, along with a few tweaks to the build.prop... Only thing is how do you extract the RIL from the stock ROM? I pulled the files I think go with it from \system\lib and \system\bin but I am kinda scared to flash this zip I made... haha
Oh just an FYI you can run getprop "gsm.version.ril-impl" on the Terminal Emulator and/or ADB shell the stock ROM is HTC-RIL 2.2.0159HMQ so I just need to learn how to pull the needed files and create a flashable zip that would install the correct RIL into a custom ROM... if someone far more experienced could tell me how... or if they just wanted to do it, have at!
Just ran a few Speed Test runs with the new LeeDroid ROM, and my TMOUS 4G speeds seem to be right where they should be for my signal strength here (at 2 bars, I'm getting about 4-5Mbps down, 2-3Mbps up).
I did do a Super Wipe before installing the ROM - could that have been a factor?
I'll try to do some more testing when I'm in a 4-bar signal area, just to be sure.

Last week I got the i727r from my work and was wondering if I have to be careful which roms I use. I am not on the rogers network but have unlocked it and using it with another network currently.
Am I ok installing at&t based roms in this case or do I have to be picky on what I install.
I have previous experience with rooting and installing roms, but seems like there might be some hickups.
Thanks in advance
From what I understand by reading the rogers based roms usually play nice with att but I don't know about the carrier your using.
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
There are some minor differences make sure the rom says it will work with the rogers version of the phone.
If it's a work supplied phone you most likely should not be flashing roms on it as if you ever need to fall back to odin or if you brick it then that's not cool.
It's not I work phone I just work for a dealer so it's unlocked working with my current provider. I had no problems getting root working and tried a few roms just nothing seems to satisfy my geek yet for the i727.
Seems like most of the roms are debloated versions of the stock rom, but the stock rom works so well I am not unhappy with it.
I do understand the risks of rooting and roming I have been doing it since the HTC G1 (Oldschool android lol) just my first Samsung experience all I can say is WOW!
Thanks for the advice and the answers!
Keep the community rocking
If you flash att roms youll need to change your apn settings. And should flash red sonja rom
Debloated rogers rom is fine for now. I'm running the Go launcher with ICS theme and Roboto font and it is nice. We'll have to wait for new official roms to get some better 3rd party roms and that includes that Red rom.

Which ROMs are recommended for a SGHi727r? I have recently acquired the cell (and love it) but the guy in the store says its sooo much more capable when it isn't stock. (with stock settings, the cell would last only half a day... until I got JuiceDefender, now it lasts a full day hehe)
I was wondering which ROMs you more experienced guys would suggest. (and that would be ROMs that do not increment the flash counter of course, still not sure of how this works, however I do know how to verify it) My phone was rooted by using SuperOneClick

Be carefull
just be really careful what roms you are using i almost brick my phone twice using a i727 rom not really compatible with the i727R
so if you are not good with computer and dont know how to restore kernel, original roms and cwm to do hard reset and clean cache (cause sometime the ok button in android 3e recovery is not working at all ) with odin you will be ****ed !
im still looking for a stable version so if anyone have a good one please keep us inform
You will never brick flashing any 727 roms as far as use they should all work with proper setup pay attention to what your doing and bam problem solved

I have tried almost every rom on here, and have only had problems with certain MIUI due to the recovery i use. For Battery i found Alien ICS had the best battery it can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608088
If you want to stay on ginger bread then i would recommend TPC found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357506
Now I know your not on rogers but if you need name display and want to use ICS you will have have to use an UCLE2 ROM/Modem. The best way is to read a lot i did and make your own decisions and just remember as long as you can get into Download mode you can use Odin to go back to stock
I have been using the CM9 ROM's since they came out, and they are fast, no buggier than any others, and I can get quite literally 24 hours on a charge with over 2 hours of screen time. Right now I have been on battery for 2.5 hours and I am still at 96%.
I personally don't think you can go wrong with CM9, but that's just my opinion, and you know what they say about those...
I have flashed pretty much every i727 ROM on my i727r and haven't had a problem.

Royal Bank APP
Hey guys.
Just wondering is there a solution for downloading apps which are made for canadian based roms but i am use Sky ICS.
Basically it says that the software is not supported for this device. Is there a way to change the ID in the phone software so Google Play sees the device as a I727R (rogers).
Be nice if rogers would get their act together and release their rom so the community can start creating custom roms with it.
Thanks.

Re: [ROM] SKY-ICS 4.2F3-7 (UXCLF3 Base) 7/9/12 OFFICIAL ROGERS ICS AT&T/ROGERS SAFE
Message to noobs from a beginner.
This was my first root, flash, ROM and everything. I came from a 4s.
First I was pretty scared but I read most of the stickies and learned the "lingo".
I then researched and found that generally most folks thought very highly of Sean and his ROMs so I decided on this one. I wanted an official release and most posts thought Rogers was better than ATT. I'm an ATT customer btw.
First flash bootlooped. Had to switch to touch CWM from regular. Flashed the new touch cwm via Odin instead of buying it. Why it makes a difference I have noooo idea but the exact same steps allowed a perfect ROM install.
Next I was confused on radio choices. Used the RAT UNLOCKED Rogers at first but freaked out bc it want giving me any data. Had to switch from any option looking for LTE since its not available.
Touch UX is better than twlauncher but there are still some bus with settings, that don't stick even after saving sometimes.
Everything came in so easily from my google account and TiBu. Thanks for making that so easy. No APN work needed by me.
Eventually decided to flash the 6 radio and the 6 sky ics modded kernel. The combination of these two took my average ram, everything cleared, from 340ish to 240ish and the battery practically sits still. All I did was clear cache and dalvik for each flash and had zero problems.
This ROM is a very good one and ICS is much smoother than GB.
Don't be afraid to flash kernels or radios, just have a nice nandroid backup ready! I haven't needed one yet with these files.
Check out YouTube to see walkthroughs if needed, there are so many.
I thought about switching ROms yesterday, to Mohans new one. Even had it downloaded, but decided against it bc people were reporting awful battery life and is still based on an ATT leak instead of an official.
Noobs, read and learn. Doing this stuff is so easy if you do. If you haven't understood this post, itself very basic, don't flash anything yet!

Hi all, thanks for taking the time to read.
I have a LG G2X, love the feel, the display, the specs and the price. Hate the phone....in every other way
I am on my 4th G2X now b/c I keep taking it back to T-Mobile to get a new one based on the following things my phone does:
1. It restarts 1-2x a week, randomly with or without a power adapter plugged
2. It freezes up every other day or so and requires a hard restart (battery pull) to resume use
3. It frequently takes 5+ minutes to get a GPS lock (tried in several cities coast to coast US)
Now if it were just the first phone I could say lemon, but every G2X I have owned does this, T-Mobile told me it was a known issue with the phone but couldn't tell me if it was software or hardware in nature.
So my question to you fellow forumites is this: Is the issue hardware related (move on to another phone) or software (Rom install fixes all my worries and I'm happy forever and ever and ever)?
If you're still using the stock ROM, and are still on 2.3.3, then you are experiencing SW suckage... Get a custom CM7 Rom on there and enjoy some of the finer benefits. Stability will be better but you won't be dead-set stable. GPS has been an issue for some since the inception of the phone. Others have GREAT GPS reception.
Research the Development forums and find a CM7.2 ROM that best suits you. You can of course go CM9 (ICS) but you won't get HW Acceleration and some things just flat out don't work yet.

Thanks for the great responses guys, just another reason I love this forum.
I should have given a few more details, I am running stock 2.3.3 on T-Mobile in the US.
Few questions for a techie (but virgin ROMer):
1. Is the 2.3.4 stock available OTA? I haven't seen any available upgrades.
2. What does baseband refer to? (trying to educate myself on the terms)
3. Any favorite ROMs? My must haves are stability and speed, other than that any goodies/awesomeness is welcome but the first two are absolute.
I am tempted to stick to stock ROMs as I haven't flashed one myself yet and this phone is my lifeblood b/c of work.
On a scale of 1-10 where 1 is "I did it with on accident when I dropped it down the stairs" and 10 is "the most difficult thing you will ever do in your life" what is the difficulty for a ROM virgin to sucessfully flash to 2.3.4 (if it is not available OTA) or CM7/other ROMs,etc?
I am technical, 12 year IT professional with MCSA/CCNA, etc but haven't done much research into the ROM biz. If its not too difficult is there a "Must read" guide for noobs?

Difficulty is pretty low. If you can follow instructions, and understand what you're doing, then you should be good to go. If you want 2.3.4, you're gonna need to use LG's ****ty software. Either you use KDZ flasher, or LG's official PC suite. Both crashed on me constantly on Win7 x64. I was lucky/unlucky, it crashed right after writing the baseband (low level radio firmware). It hadn't even partitioned anything yet if I tried to turn it on, not even a backlight was showing. So I had to use NVflash to completely repartition it to stock. After that, I flashed CWM (clockworkmod), the custom recovery. Nowadays, TWRP is available. TWRP is awesome, and they have awesome Devs. TWRP (teamwin recovery project) is touch based rather than CWM and traditional volume key and power button navigation. There is CWM touch, but it's extremely experimental and I find it too glitchy compared to TWRP. TWRP is a work in progress however and there may be issues (I had one but it was easily fixed with one command when I spoke with the Devs on irc) I haven't had any serious ones though. IMO it's easier to NVflash in a Linux environment, because there is no messing around with drivers. But after drivers are installed on windows, the difficulty level plateaus.
As for my favorite ROM, that would currently temasek cm7 builds. They're stable, fast and they're customizable as f***.
I don't have any links right now, because I'm on my phone, (I can grab them later/soonish) you're going to want tga_gunman's thread named something along the lines of "One click recovery flasher" that's for CWM recovery. If you want TWRP, there's a thread that has TWRP in the title.
Also look for "ROM for recovery under NVflash" or something similar to that. That will take you back to complete stock 2.3.3 no matter what happened software wise, unless you somehow managed to break the baseband. The baseband is the only thing that cannot be fixed by NVflash, only can be fixed by LG's ****ty PC software.
For temasek's cm7 builds, the thread is not created by temasek, but the builds are by him. It should be at build 133 or 134.
If you need anything else, PM me maybe.

Firstly thanks for all the good Q/A, like a good forum noobie, I'm marking thanks each reply.
I want to make sure I understand your comment. This is what I understood, let me know if I'm off/on. The CM Roms do not work with BT calling, so I should stick with stock if that's important to me? I would assume then for me to get beyond my current issues (OP) my best bet would be to Flash the 2.3.4 stock?
Thanks again for the info and time.

Nix the above. I completely read it wrong, thought you were saying all CM ROMs didn't work with Bluetooth. Just so on the current Baseband.
I'm on Jul 15 2011 Baseband currently, so I'll attempt the CM7 ROM this weekend when I'm back home and able to devote more focus. Coming from stock 2.3.3 do I need to flash a kernel as well or will that be in the ROM <---showing my ROM noobness but unashamed to learn.

If you decide to get the newer baseband (you get it with 2.3.4 kdz, only way to get new baseband) and bt calling is important, do not go to cm. If you don't mind staying on the older baseband, bt calling will work fine on cm.

I'm trying to understand why I would decide to get the newer baseband? If I do I can use BT calling but can't use CM7 ROMs, if I don't I can use CM7 ROMs and BT calls should work fine. Dont see the upside to upgrading the baseband, unless it has issues?

KDZ = LG's proprietary file type to update their phones via PC officially. A lot of people say the new baseband gives them better gps and call quality. Basically if you don't change baseband to the new one, everything will work perfectly. If you DO switch, everything will work perfectly, but only on stock. Everything will work on cm except Bluetooth calling with the new baseband. I don't think it's worth restricting yourself to stock because of the new baseband and and bt calling. My recommendation? Don't change baseband, just go to cm. Also, soon we might start to see android 4.1.1 jelly bean. They won't be stable for a while though.
Too much fun.
Couldn't wait, just finished flashing CWM, then backed up, then wiped like 400x then dropped the CM7 ROM you sugested.
Longest 10 minutes of my life letting it sit.
Working great, I'll update here with any additional info or create a new thread.
TY TY TY all
Update -
Still working great, only two issues.
* Cellular network is only showing E, played with the settings but can't seem to get any G networks.
* Google apps/play isn't installed, I think I have this one figured out to download/flash from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049154) (http://goo.im/gapps/) but I'm confused about which one to DL.
help plox?

If it's cm7 get the latest gb one, if it's cm9 get the latest ics one... It has gb or ics in the name of the file.

Yeah goo.im/gapps is the best. For the cell network, try going settings> wireless>mobile>network operators and select "select automatically"
i've been searching a bit and haven't found the answer yet.
but does anyone know which rom should i get if i'm looking for a ROM similar to the stock rom? except with a few tweaks of course, and removed bloatware.
imo, i don't like these custom builds.. the UI format always changes. if i get used to a particular ROM, i'll have to make a change later down the line when i get a new phone.

To be honest the best you will have is mohans embryo based on stock with ROM customizer very closed thing you can get with stock and some tweaks. Besides that the next thing is mohans pure stock ROM and then u can search xda to add your tweaks your self

thanks for recommendation. i'll look up that ROM.
currently im using sky jellybean.. GPS doesn't work, as well as pinch zooming. those are 2 really important features for me, so im going to have to find a new ROM.
i have it installed, and so far so good. pinch to zoom actually works as well as GPS. that's all i really wanted. thanks.
Ya, Embryo is indeed your best option as it's stock based and ICS.

actually the data does not work. there's always something wrong with a custom ROM for me. maybe there is a fix for it, but i dont want to continue changing custom roms. think i'll just root the stock ics rom.
i've flashed to 4 roms now. sky ics was first. data did not work. then sky jellybean, where pinch to zoom didn't work along with GPS. now with this rom, then alien rom, where the rom would not load. data does not work but pinch to zoom and GPS work. kind of strange to me, since i never experienced this many issues with the galaxy s or the i777.

Embryo works great, you have a case of user error. I've used all those roms with no problem. Think about it, every Rom is not messed up, it's you that's messed up.

no, not really. i flashed the roms as per instructions except for the backup part. sky ICS didn't have the APN info set up by default, so i could have fixed the issue by adding the info.. but it was never provided in the original OP.
i just fixed the problem by adding all the APN info, which was not included in the OP. i was lucky and ran into a post with all the info on settings.

That's not luck; it's called reading. The dev doesn't have to include every little detail in the OP that will address every single possible issue. Knowing that data problems correlate to APN settings is common knowledge if you have read enough.
