Suggestions please: A 7-8 inches tablet with Android - Android General

Hello to everyone!
I have an Galaxy Note and I'm in love with it, but after weeks of using it, I understood that I need something bigger.
So... could you recommend me a tablet between 7-8 inches with a dual core CPU.
I want something fast or maybe something that support some unofficial ROMs (to put something fast on it ), just like every Android phone.
I think about Google Tablet, but I don't want to wait.
Any suggestions are welcomed.

It is not dual core but the htc flyer is 7 inch, has pen support like note, has a choice of gb and hc including custom roms such as cm7 and miui, and has ics, beta ports in the works.
Processor is single but set at 1.5ghz with custom kernels enabling up to 2.ghz. 1gb of ram, comes in wifi only and 3g models, and can be found online for ir a steal refurbished.

Just one suggestion? : (((

Acer Iconia A100 (7', 1024x600pix) or A500 (10', WXGA)
Both have the same platform, Nvidia Tegra 2, Dual Core @1Ghz

You could also try the Motorola XOOM Tegra 2 Dual Core with 1 GB of RAM. The Motorola XOOM has the latest Android, and from what I know it's a pure Android experience. Also if you want to wait until 2012 you'll be able to buy a Quad Core tablet (ex: look at this -> NVIDIA Project Kal-El)

Recommend me a tablet

Hey XDA. Im currently sending this off of a crappy ipod touch 4g. So sorry if there is any gramatical or spelling errors. Im going to be selling this on ebay to help fund my tablet because it looks like they can sell for $150 to $200 in the condition mine is currently in.
But anyway, Im looking for a tablet, I dont care about size. Im looking to get one for $200 to $300 new. I was hoping it could have at least a gig of ram, a dual core (if possible), be able to play games well, have a decent sized development community on gere, rootable, and a decent battery life because I will be taking this to school.
I know Im asking for a lot, but rooting and installing roms looks like a lot of fun, and Im not able to buy an android phone because with us cellular they require a data plan, which my dad doesnt need, so he doesnt want to pay for it (which is fair).
Ive also heard of the nvidia tegra 2, just wondering is that a cpu, apu or gpu? I currently own a gtx 460 in my computer, so if I had a nvidia product like that in my tablet, that would be cool.
Alright sorry that ive asked a lot, if this has alreadt been answered please feel free to close this thread and link me to the thread where that answer is.
Thanks!

I'll suggest to you the HP TouchPad. 9.7" 1024x768 Samsung IPS panel, dual core processor capable of running at 1.8ghz, Adreno 220 GPU...it is one of the fastest tabs you can buy.

Good luck finding a TouchPad...
Most of the lesser expensive tablets (I. E. In your price range) are either underpowered or do not have custom ROMs.
If you don't mind a slightly sluggish experience but it runs games well you could get a nook color which has cyanogenmod support. If you want speed and decent power, kindle fire is a good bet. If you want a tablet that's very powerful and has root (you can customise apps and launchers, etc.) nook tablet. Nook tablet does not yet have custom ROMs but it has root and is the cheapest tablet in its class.

Now they can be readily found on eBay, but they are going up in price; the price for one of the 16GB models has risen about $40 in the past week. Upon using the device, three of my friends have bought one for themselves, I really can't recommend the device enough.
I'd suggest looking at the Nook Color or Nook Tablet. They sell new for $200 & $250 respectively. They are a little underpowered compared to some of the newer stuff like a Galaxy Tab 10.1 or something like that, but you can't beat that price. You'd be lacking some things, like a camera and microphone.
CM7 is currently available for the Nook Color and works amazingly well. I'm sure it'll be made available for the Tablet soon enough if it doesn't yet exist. Depending on what you mean to do with the tablet one of these may be more than enough.

Nook Color runs stably at 1.3 ghz under cyanogenmod 7. It feels a little pokey to me and I have one.
Nook tablet is dual core 1.1 OMAP 4 with a gig of ram. It is hardly underpowered as I have one of these as well.
The biggest issue with both nooks is android <3. 0 so it does not have the interface GPU accelerated. Any tablets above gingerbread will seem faster even if they have lower specs. Most of the time the GPU does nothing and the cpu has to process the interface, touch, plus everything else. Touch and interface are offloaded to GPU on honeycomb and higher.
If cyanogenmod 9 come to the Blaze it will be a better tablet than most Honeycomb because it has a faster and better cpu with more ram. Most honeycomb tablets only have 512mb.

I didn't really want the nook color to be honest, and I was thinking about getting the nook tablet, but the only problem is that you can't really install roms on it because of the bootloader being locked or something? (This is what I've heard, I'm an Android noob).
If the boot loader is really locked on newest Nook Tablets, that would eliminate it from my list of possible candidates. Is this true? I was leaning toward the NT because of the card slot, and the possibility of booting from an sd card. (I read that the lock was imposed during an automatic upgrade)
Acer iconia a100 or a500 are my first and second choices

I think Acer Iconia a501 is a good choice ... if you want to spend a little more buy a HTC.

A tablet with quality roms

Hi, I've been using my Galaxy S II for a while and I'm so glad that there are a lot of people out there who make great kernels and roms for this device,
Can you suggest me a tablet (around 10 inch size, sleek and powerful one) which also has some nice ROMS and kernels around?
Thx!

Well, I've got a HP Touchpad and love it. It's a webOS device, but you can get Android installed and it will work as a dual boot. There are a limited number of ROMs available at the moment, but that number's slowly growing.
The Asus Transformer Prime has an unlocked bootloader, which opens up the possibility of ROMs being developed. I dunno if there are any ATM available, but if not, I'd suspect they won't be far out.
Tablets are still relatively new gadgets, so they're bound to get ROMs in the future...but also there are probably lots more devs working on ROMs for phones than ROMs for tablets.
Have a look around the Asus TP forum, and you might find some...but I dunno, I haven't checked.

MTK6577 phones?

Hi All,
Been seeing a lot of china phones running the MTK6577 + SGX531 and was wondering if anyone had any real performance figures on any of these devices, particularly those with screen resolutions greater than 800x480.
There are a lot of knock-off phones running this however there are some china-branded phones sporting them as well.
Ive seen some threads surrounding haipai devices that are running this SoC, however they only seem to have 512MB RAM and WVGA screens (albeit the screens are quite large physically).
I was wondering if there were any phones running MTK6577 with 1GB RAM and a 960x540 or better yet a 1280x720 screen?
I understand that they are cheap and would like to know if they represent 'bang-for-buck' at all?
Well depends who makes it ...xiaomi is great got the mi-1 going to get the two ... look at fastcardtech.com for xiaomi mi-2

I have the Haipai x710d MTK6577, And so far i love it, Rooted with a custom rom, Super fast and lots of features 2gb of usable space, With the custom rom it fixes the SD card problem so you are able to save all your data and app on it now. very speedy, great screen color yeah its not a super amoled or anything but it looks great to me, It depends on opinion about the screen resolution and the way it looks. Games play great. Battery life is awesome. Camera is awesome. ICS 4.0.9, For me and this is my first second Chinese phone, And so far i love it. recommend to anyone.

I am interested in knowing the basics:
How is the phone signal, volume and clarity?
How is the GPS lock? Is it fast enough (under 10 seconds)? Is it usable for google navigation?
How is the camera? Fast enough with good pictures?

Was wondering if you had run Antutu on it at all?

we need an a chinese phone section.
Just got my Amoi n820, trying to figure out how to root it.
Anyway Antutu score is about 5400+ ? its actually a pretty decent performer
It appears that there is an S3 knock-off that has a 1GB RAM and a 1280x720 screen which is pretty decent.
I have also found a "Hero H9500+" which is essentially a Zopo ZP900 but with only 512MB RAM and a 5.0MP camera (8.0MP would be better but ahh well).
Still for less than $200 it has a 5.3" QHD 960x540 screen. Havent been able to find any video demonstrations of it however.
It would be awesome to have a 5"+ phone with 1GB RAM and a 1280x720 screen. I think we will see them soonish.
I understand that MediaTek are bringing out a quad-core (i think its MTK6585?) later this year which should see quad-core china phones boom. The GPU is supposed to be the SGX544 which is used in TI OMAP 4 amongst other things.

Be very careful. Many shops advertise 1,2 Ghz but they do send you a 1.0 Ghz phone. Afaik there is no 1.2 Ghz variant around.
I own one of the "1.2ghz" MTK 6577 and the fact that they have a sticker with "quadcore CPU" on it should tell you something about how the chinese advertise their products.
That being said i knew that i am buying a 1.0 GHZ dualcore phone and i am very happy with it. It's really fast and powerful enough to do some gaming if one likes to.

Yes. There's a long thread about the spark/firewire unit at Slatedroid and very bad wifi reception issues.
Apparently the fix is to open up the back and do a minor tweak to the antenna, which offsets the issue caused by the aluminium chassis.

Yes, it's a very impressive device: Exynos 4412 powered, 2Gb RAM, IPS 1280x800, Bluetooth, GPS... all for $185, not bad. I dunno about its firmware... I hope a good firmware to match its hardware (anyone knows?).

i am looking for Android tablet too.My friends suggest me buy a Chinese Brand tablet(Yuandao N90FHDRK ).The 10000mAh Battery Capacity and the Quad Core attracted me.And the Configuration is quite good.(9.7 Inch Android 4.1 Jelly Bean IPS Capacitive Multi-touch Screen 16gb Internet Tablet Quad Core Cortex A9,10000mah Battery Capacity,2048x1536 Resolution,mali-400 Mp GPU Tablet Pc with Rk3066 1.6ghz CPU 2gb Ddr3 RAM Wifi Hdmi with OTG USB Cable)
PIPO M9 or CUBE U30GT2
I bought myself a chinese tablet which is going around under many different names. Freelander PD80 Vogue, Ployer Momo 11 quad, Chinavision Vice, and quite a few other names. Mine is called the Primal P9X.
They are all the same tablet.
Quad core Samsung Exynos 4412 1.4 ghz, 1028 x 720 (or whatever that standard one is), IPS screen, Mali 400 gpu. 2 gb ram, 1 gb internal, 16 gig SD. HDMI out, USB 2.0, extSD.
In short, this thing is a beast and is one of the best purchases ive made in awhile. This post marks the first time on the internet someone is linking all these tablets in one post. I know cause I went on a 24 hour wild goose chase after i accidentlally bootlooped this thing. Primal has no website and thus no firmware, but I was able to find firmware for the PD80 Vogue after i realized it was the same exact tablet. And it worked! also the Framaroot exploits (at least Sam) work on this thing.
I hope to see some development on this/these tablets soon, as they are the best thing coming outta china right now (besides the not-very-good resoltuion). If anyone needs a starting ROM to starting tweaking with, reply here and ill post the link. It was a life saver.

I am not surprised that this is just a re-labled tablet sold under many different brands considering I could not find any information about the manufacturer. I have had my P9x for two weeks now and very happy with the performance and responsiveness of it.
You mentioned finding another rom for it. Was it another ICS rom, or JB? I am interested in going to JB since my Galaxy Note II is already on it.
Anyhow, I found rooting this device to be pretty simple and straightforward. I think there are many options available. I will search for some of these other brands and see what is out there.
These is a thread discussing this on apad forum also so I will watch both of these threads for any updates.
Well it wasn't actually a rom for the primal p9x, it was for one of its clones, the Freelander PD80 Vogue. I bootlooped my p9x after installing something dumb. In an act of desperation I scoured the internet for all its clones and searched for their respective firmwares. The only I ended up findimg was the one I said. So I took the leap of faith and flashed it (put it on sd card, held pwr+vol- at startup) and it worked! Its ICS.
Its nit perfect thougj. The one that shipped with the primal was better. It seemed snappier and didn't have annoying chinese apps. Also the front facing camera seems to not be working. According to apad, a JB fw is coming soon. Eagerly awaiting that.
If you manage to make a dump/nandroid of your stock primal fw I wouldn't mind having a copy

Do any of these tablets have custom roms, or the ability to update to future android releases?

This is exactly the right question
I have a Cube U9GT2 that I bought a while back. I based that purchasing decision on the community support it had. If you buy a device with kick ass hardware, but no devs behind it then it may end up close to useless. Rather than looking at paper specs check whether there is community support as it is much more critical when dealing with Chinese tablets (no website, no support, etc.). just my 2¢
