Not with the devs we have. Sense 4.0 is slowly workin' out!
Honestly you can't expect these phones to last long anyways, a year is what I expect, 2 years is max. By the third, my phone is trash!

Still would think it would be longer look at there sidekick

Why so dramatic? Its been on EOL status for over a month. This is completely normal as it, and the Amaze 4G, are being replaced by the One S.

Well the sensation and desire hd (and EVO 3d) are still on sale in the UK (on display in carphone). I guess the EVO will go first, and the sensation will become like the desire hd.

Slowly? I think the progress is blazin! Lol, but ya i agree after a year or so its time to upgrade anyways.

No point upgrading unless you love the stock HTC software, it's why I waited until the sensation had been out a year before buying one - to let the developer and knowledge base build up so I could flash a ROM the moment it arrived.
The sensation will still be sold and supported for years yet, the new phones don't add any killer functions so why bother? HTC are finding out that releasing a new phone every six months destroys brand loyalty, not increase it - hence their drop in profits.

Rooted and running an ICS rom, the sensation is still one of the best phones you can get. There won't be any huge strides made this year in cell phones. Maybe the iPhone 5 will be exciting, but probably not either. The sensations CPU is fast.

I had the HD2. I thought I would never have a phone that would take it's place.
But I love the Sensation.
I was just wondering what phones did everyone have before the Sensation.

HD2, same thinking as you
great minds think alike this was the ONLY phone i was considering to replace my superphone HD2!
Yet another ex-HD2 user here. And I too believe the Sensation is the only phone, worthy of replacing the HD2.
Hello,
had a Nexus One before getting my Sensation, love the screen size/resolution and the device is quite faster, the camera is also better but I don't use it much
too bad the battery drains a lot faster (almost twice actually)
iPhone 3GS. Big difference but I'm loving it so far.

Bold 9700. The OS just got really boring for me and I wasn't taking advantage of the $30 I was paying per month for data. Really liking the Sensation so far, but there are some kinks that need to be worked out.
LG Optimus M. I traded it in for a $50 rebate and consider myself lucky. That phone was very frustrating - I went through three exchanges between February and April, it was very slow, and I could never get a Metro PCS representative on the phone when I had issues.
Motorola W755... My learning curve is steep.

And because I just loved the Gingerbread rom with Sense 3.0 ^^

I came from the Nexus S as well and i love this phone wayyy better! and the NExus S has a like no development what so ever and that was supposed to be a 'dev phone'

[Q] Should I get the Desire S coming from HTC wildfire??

Hi,
What is everyone's opinion on the Desire S, i've got a HTC wildfire that is coming to the end of its contract, and the desire S looks like a phone i can afford, any good/bad things i should know about it? Bit worried about the battery life...
Cheers
Its brilliant. Maybe slightly outdated now if you're talking about a 2 year contract but I'm sure you'll burn your wildfire after using this. There is a lot of support from devs which is just amazing. I find the screen size the perfect size to use with one hand like I'm doing now. Battery life is pretty good for a smartphone. Not sure how it compares to wildfire, probably about the same.
Also believe me when I say that the desire s has the best community out of any phone on xda.

I'd wait it out if I was OP, considering the next line up of handsets are only three months away.

During the launch to october period I'd agree with you, since then its slowly gone downhill.
But if you want a real experience the Nexus forums are all "BAAAAAAAAWWWWWW", "I EEENSTAWLED A RAWM NOW STUFF NO WORK, WUT DO?", "WAAAAAH NO GORRILLIAARR GLASS ME WANTT REFUND". Basically most posts are over spilt milk, which the OP has literally forcefully spilt.
No, i HIGHLY recommend you against buying a Desire S. Don't get me wrong, this is a great device. But, it was released almost a year ago.
In the next 2 months, CES and MWC are coming up. Desire S was released at MWC last year, and i'm sure something great will come up this year too. Just wait till the end of feb and you'll get something much better for the same price.
yeah probably worth the wait, I want an upgrade
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Yes, Desire S is an upgrade compared to wildfire but wait for few months and you should get a better device.....but New phones will always come up....for now wait for the new launch compare it with others...I would say quad cores will make it and the dual cores should be cheaper and getting a dual core device would make more sense now...

I hate the way phones get outdated quick I love my DS but I'm sure I'll hate it after the next 20 months of my contract

The desire s is a great phone. I previously had a wildfire. The desire s is much better in almost every regard. But I agree with the other posts wait till CES and mwc see what's avaliable. That's what I did last year Ans went for the desire s. Its such a good phone. For me anyways
Sent from my Desire S
I'll probably upgrade next year around may time. After mwc. By the way battery life is great but 3g always drains battery
Sent from my Desire S
Some cons with the desire s. Cameras not very good. Gpu is getting somewhat out of date the new 3d games lag just a little and the wi fi reduction if you cover the top and the paint comes off a little if you have a black model. But these are minor worries. Overall smashing with a lot of developer support

Hehe... I'm hoping for a stable ICS release too to drive me through from now till July!
I'm gonna be real busy soon with exams
The best thing about my phone is I got it dead cheap too
I got it for a 12 month contract for £25 a month... and the phone just cost me £14.99
Also I got £50 quidco cashback, and under my dad I got 40% of total price NHS discount
For that I get a decent amount,
300 minutes, 1000 texts and 1GB data...
All that and the phone cost around £210 in total after all the discounts
I'm chuffed with the deal and best thing, its only 12 months!!

Ah well, I love this phone, the form factor is perfect (I really don't like big phones) and stable ICS is getting closer every day. It's probably best to wait now, but really, I couldn't recommend it higher.
I been with vodafone so long i got it for 10 quid a month with 200 mins 500 texts and 40 quid for the phone but for 24 months

Probably earlier than that. Official Roms usually leak a couple weeks before they are released.
The same thing with the Amaze, it's the same thing with an extra 256MB of ram, and new housing and better camera.
I still love the Sensation, I can confidently say this is the best Android/HTC phone I've owned since the G1, and I've went through a bunch of Android phones since Android.
@Moshe, Oh Tegra phones are quick, no doubt about that. The G2x I got is amazing. GTA3 with full graphics plays much smoother on the G2x than it does on the Sensation. Just the fact the nvidia won't give the source code so dev's could develop ICS for it, kills the whole experience.

Yea, and battery just for 3h IMPRESSIVE!
Update: HTC just wrote us to say that its original press release was incorrect — it'll actually ship with Android 2.3 and be upgradeable to 4.0 down the road, just as its other Sensation versions will be. In other words, don't expect an ICS-equipped Sensation on March 1st... but you can expect a white one with Gingerbread. Furthermore, the white Sensation is already available in select markets, so the PR is simply announcing its upcoming availability in Benelux. Now, the question becomes: how much longer is the wait for the upgrade?

What will be your next phone?

Hey guys,
I was just wondering what kind of phone you'll get after the Sensation (XE).
I think I will go a HTC Endeavour, because of the nice HD-screen, big intern memory and it has a good SoC (quad-core Krait will beat this so that's why I find this SoC just 'good').
I'd like to hear yours!
I'd probably upgrade to that as well. But I'll wait till I get tired of this one, after all ICS isn't officially implemented for us yet.

Probably HTC One X (Codename: Endeavour or Razor)... 4core soc tegra3
When I bought the Sensation 4G back in Aug. I told myself that I would keep it for at least 18 months. With a new car to play with and spend my extra money on, it looks like I will keep that promise to myself.
All the new and upcoming phones don't seem that great or that much better than the sensation. Also, they are all so big. The size of the sensation is the biggest that I can withstand. The galaxy s 2 is about the same size but I prefer the qhd screen on my sensation.
Until they make a phone with minimal bezel, on screen buttons, and same size of the sensation, I will be keeping my sensation.

yep, sensation already a highend device anyway
I have my Sensation since December, i'm pretty sure it will last till the end of 2012! When i bought it I didn't look in here and i retain myself lucky with all this DEV stuff going on.. So next time i'll buy a phone, apart from tech specs, i'll take a look at the forums here since i won't get a phone unable to be unlocked and customized as the Sensation!
By the way, the Endeavour looks damn good with that quad-core
To me, the Sensation with Sense 3.0 and 2.3.4 and the Sensation with AOSP Android 4.0 are two different phones. I flashed Virtuous Inquisition beta1 last night and as far as I'm concerned, I got a brand new Sensation since then.
Personally I've had enough with dust under the screen (this is my 4th HTC phone with this issue) and HTC's leisurely attitude towards releasing updates--not to mention forcing Sense on us. I had made peace with holding out for HTC to release their ICS update (so the devs could put together a complete AOSP rom), but then I noticed the dust after just 3 HOURS of carrying it in my pants pocket. Seems minor, but it was the last straw for me.
I finally broke down and bought a Galaxy Nexus from Expansys. So long HTC.

HTC Sensation XE, JellyBean....Yes/No ??

Hello Guys,
I have the same old Sensation XE problem of WiFi, Hotspot and Bluetooth which i took to HTC Customer Care only to get a reply "I tried downloading your update but our servers are down so the download gets terminated in between...please visit tomorrow".....same thing since more than a month. I have grown tired by that and i have stopped visiting.
Anyways, my question....do you think the XE will get a JellyBean update sooner (India) ? If yes then i would like to wait for it. But it not....i just downloaded recently uploaded stable CyanogenMod 9 and i am so tempted !!!
Thank You

The One X has Sense 4, so if Sense 4 needs updating to work on JB then they'll be doing that anyway, and we know the Sensation can run Sense 4 so it's not going to be that difficult for HTC to release a JB update for the Sensation.

I agree but in terms of support HTC would have to support multiple versions and will probably choose not to do that as it == $$$$ in costs. It's just cheaper for them not do so and get us mugs to just buy newer phones.
Or, go to something like CM10.
I think if the Sensation will get the 4.1 update, you will know about in a few months. Remember that the first 4.0 update was available for Sensation & XE.
I think XE will get Jelly Beans, but maybe not sense4. Sense4 includes burst and HDR camera functions needing the image chip which XE doesn't have.
Sense 3.7 with android4.1 is most possible I think.

Yeah, considering they took so much time rolling out update outside europe i am a bit skeptical about it. More that that Desire HD which i used, got its 2.3.5 update (from 2.3.3) got its update after 2 months of ICS release and i am hopeless about them releasing udates on time.
i see the desire hd saga all over again from htc ,im sure htc wont update sensation to jb ,but im curious what will be the excuse
Short HTC Support Cycles?
So what's the support cycles on HTC these days? Six months? Seems upgrade support is dropped after six months because HTC are falling in to the Nokia trap. Release a bewildering array of phones to 'meet every market niche', spread themselves thin and drop support for last seasons 'bewildering array of phones' after only six months.
Samsung seem to be offering longer support cycles now?
This is where Apple just keep beating Android hands down. Imagine the uproar if Apple dropped upgrade support on an iPhone 6 months after release. Their support is more like two years?
Not happy HTC. I fear you will go the way of Nokia!
I love Sense but with HTC's build quality brand damage last year and ever shortening support cycles, I'm struggling to understand why I shouldn't just go Samsung like everyone else.
How far HTC has fallen. They were once the de-facto Google partner. Now even Google won't touch them.
