Need help flashing HTC inspire - HTC Inspire 4G

Hello all, I currently have a g2x but I'm going to be flashing a HTC inspire for my buddy. Can anyone put up a link to the cm 7.2.0 rom? Is there even one for the inspire? If not can you give me a few roms to choose from that you may have a good experience with, as well as a kernel? ( unless the stock kernel for the rom has awesome battery life.) Aaaaand one other thing... am I going to be flashing this the exact way I flashed my g2x or is there a different method for each phone?

You could always search for the info on here or on Google. The info is there though.

I've actually tried searching on here. I thought maybe someone who has done this on this specific phone e already could answer these questions to give me a head start. Not trying to be lazy or anything. That's just the best way to learn and the quickest

Every rom is different and mostly all need a full wipe when flashed. The best way to flash a rom is boot in recovery, wipe data / Factory rest, Wipe cache, format system and then install from sdcard, choose zip and install.
The first boot might take a while so don´t get anxious. Make sure that you check the MD5sum of the Rom file in the sdcard. And of course before you wipe everything make sure that you have the zip file in the sdcard.
Don´t use Rom Manager, because is not compatible with all roms and might fail...

So what you are saying is its the same as flashing my g2x. I thought it may be different with different phones. Don't forget creating a back up of the stock rom too. Things can get messed up pretty easily. Cool cool though. Hopefully I can find the cm7 and Trinity for his inspire. Don't think so but worth a shot. Any suggestions for good rom/kernel combos?

OK spend some time reading on the dev threads will tell you all you need to know. There is no spoon feeding here. Take the ACE hack kit that you will need to use. If you don't pay close attention and read it top to bottom you will have problems. So take the time and do the research.
There is no easy way. Only a right and wrong way.

[Q] Can someone check my rom-flashing plan, just to make sure that I don't brick?

Hey guys, I've been reading XDA for about a month now, and I think I'm ready to flash CM7. I've already rooted with superoneclick, but I don't have the money now to get a new phone if I brick, so I was hoping someone could just check my plan to make sure that I'm good to go? I've read the tutorials, but I want to be positive that I'm ok. I think that if I generate a list [without looking at the tutorial], rather than just copying theirs, I'll be sure that I understand the steps 100%.
Procedure:
-Root the phone (done)
-install nvflash on computer, and then clockworkmod to phone
-backup the NAND with clockworkmod (is that like the wii, where the NAND is specific to the device itself?)
-move the NAND to the computer for safe keeping
-install titanium backup > backup all apps > move to computer for safety
-flash rom from SD card
I've flashed a few roms onto an android tablet before, but I didn't backup the NAND when I did...
Will give "thanks" to each reply
You pretty much have it down the main thing to remember is to nvflash BC if not you will not be able to get into recovery. Also before flashing the rom you have to wipe data/cache/and dalvic cache. Let me know if this makes sense I'm at work so I don't really have time to go into detail lol

Ah, yeah, I forgot about the clear cache bit- I remember doing that when I flashed the tablet. Thanks a bunch man, I just finished, and it worked great!
I'm glad everything worked out lemme know if there's anything else u need
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
also if u want to just install a kernel after the rom is installed just wipe cache then dalvik then install kernel....no need to wipe data
Also, depending on the rom, you also may need to flash gapps. With Faux or CM, you will. I believe with Bionix and Eagleblood it is included (someone correct me if I am wrong).
After flashing, it is always best practice to run a fix permissions in clockworkmod.

Ah, yeah, I figured that one out. I couldn't figure out where the market was! And then I read...
What's the fix permissions thing? Is that the option in the CM settings that said something like "don't turn this on and then report bugs, because it'll break some apps" ?
Fix permissions is in the advanced menu in cwm recovery.

[Guide] Best Way To Flash A Rom Without Having Problems

The best and easiest way to flash a rom without having any bugs or flaws, etc.
follow this to a 'tee' and you will have no problems, guarantee you.
Instructions:
1. Download .rar from link and extract it
http://www.multiupload.com/FO6TA6OBAH
2. open odin
3. put pda into the pda, phone into phone (their all in the respective folders)
4. let it finish wiping your phone and everything
5. once your phone boots, back up everything on your internal sd
6. go into settings and do a factory reset then let the phone reboot
7. put the rom you want to flash onto your sd card
8. turn off the phone and go into download mode (both volume buttons then plug in your usb cord.) flash gtg's community kernel. (in the root folder, put that .tar into the pda section) let it finish converting the partions.
9. once it finishes and boots up do this:
turn off phone, then:
using three button method. (volume up, volume down, power button. once you see samsung label release power button and keep holding volume buttons til you see your touch buttons light up, thats the way i figured out when to release them)
10. once the red screen appears, do: wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cache
11. install zip from sd card, choose the rom that you placed onto your sd card
good job. works for me!
Which version of flashing stock does this use? Gtg unbrick?

Haha, the best way is NEVER using ODIN. Heimdall is much much better.
And why would you return to stock before every flash?

A clean slate. I use to do this all the time with my Captivate. Never had any problems installing any rom. Still do it now with the Infuse, and no problems installing any rom or Hellraiser Hybrid rom.

Never did it with the Captivate, never do it with the Infuse, never had any problems. You have a clean slate every time you flash a ROM as long as you wipe all the data and cache partitions. The system partitions are already overwritten with the flash itself. Basically going back to stock is just doing the same thing twice. Unless you are having some big problems and want to drop back to all stock files to see if you can fix a problem, it's generally unnecessary and just a waste of time. I mean, it doesn't hurt if you want to, it's just redundant.
All you gotta do is flash your ROM from Heimdall or CWM, wipe your data and cache partitions, boot up and you're done. As clean and fresh of a slate as it gets.

I was once watching a youtube video on how to flash and he said something very simple, "wipe, fix, delete, get rid of, whatever. Old school rom flashing: make sure that you knock out everything so that you start on a fresh slate." Jordan is definitely right and knows much more than I. But I agree with AJerman that says its redundant. Just my two cents.
Jordan would you recommend using this method if you just got and rooted an infuse?
(have a warranty replacement on the way )

Using this method coming from Darky in an attempt to flash the FusionXII ROM, i recieved the message "installation aborted" after clockwork mod started and then ended the flash of the file. any advice? i cleared both data and dalvik in that order.
- Thanks
Odin back to Froyo, then Odin one of the gingerbread leaks, Odin entropys kernel, turn phone off and get into cwm and flash Fusion. Make sure to wipe data as well.

[Q] Just purchased used & rooted/modded phone, what do I do first

Hello,
First time poster in this section. I just purchased a SGS4G on Swappa. It's coming rooted with Valhalla Final.
I am planning to get the Walmart/TMob $30 per month plan. I've rooted and flashed my Asus Transformer, but this is my first time with a phone.
So kind of wanted to know my best course of action? I was kind of leaning towards reset to factory, then go ahead and go through the steps to get Valhalla Black. But the rooting/flashing methods are a bit more complicated than what I was doing with my Transformer.
Thank you,
Anton
if it's already running Valhalla, there is no need to go back to factory. You can just flash the new rom through CWM.

i would recommend flashing to stock first, formatting everything and then moving forward from their. yea, its harder, but it would give you a nice fresh install and can prevent problems in the future

If you go back to true stock then you will lose root. However, there are plenty of modified kernels and ROMs that come with root.
Check out bhundven's One-Click collection. Super easy way to flash the phone. The first one click is straight stock. The 3rd is stock with his beta 2d kernel which also has CWM, root, and voodoo lagfix. I'd suggest snagging the 3rd one, do a factory reset on the phone, flash the 3rd one, then you should be able to throw Valhalla back on it the way you want
what i did... Just me but i would always have that one click flash back to stock always available on your pc Its just me dude you never know what can go wrong.. always keep that back door available.. odin was like my best buddy "ugh" when i first started out..

There is a 1 gig internal storage space where the system (ROM, cache, etc) resides. You can install some apps on your sd card (16 gig separate removable space) to save space on the system storage. All of your files, pics, and music end up on the sd card.
He is running valhalla final....there is no reason for him to be concerned with bootloaders at this time when all he wants to do is flash valhalla black.....this doesnt need to be made more complicated than it is...specially for someone new.....this phone is alot more durable and hardy than alot of you guys give it credit for and are only scaring the new people

Your right. It doesent need to be complicated. Nor is it.
One click back to "stock with beta2d", flash desired gb rom.
Not only does this ensure that he knows the true state of the entire device (not just what rom he is on) he also learns how to recover from a soft brick! <~~~ very important when flashing beta roms such as black edition
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
^ Yea. Learning how to Odin/Heimdall will save a lot of heart ache with the inevitable soft brick haha
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Lol ok yea your right...ive always pushed the limits and learned the hard way.....ive found that to be the best way to learn...
and for someone new to any device....i wouldnt be flashing beta roms....valhalla final is a great stable rom....you should stick with it and just spend the next month reading up on your newly purchased phone first.
Dont worry the developement for this phone is slow compared to most so your not gonna miss much.
Only prob ive seen so far in this forrum is there is alot of clutter and to many different opinions on how and what to do and use to flash roms and and such...it is actually very easy...just pick a way and stick with it and learn the other ways slowly....but dont worry....the galaxy s series is virtually unbrickable

Any time you flash anything you risk a brick. It's uncommon, if you know what you're doing, but it happens. Almost Every ROM has specific instructions for flashing.

I just made sure I did everything exactly it said and am now running a flashed rom
Do you know how warm I feel inside to see someone that actually READS?
And to clarify on ROM flashing, what happens is your internal storage is partitioned I to several parts. When you flash, you write to those partitions. For example, when you flash a recovery, it writes an image to that partition, similar to burning an ISO onto a CD. Hope that makes stuff a little clearer... so yes, if you're not careful, you're going to screw yourself over by telling your processor to do something it doesn't understand. It's like if I suddenly told you to go make me a sandwich in Chinese. Unless you understand Chinese, you would freak out and get confused.

I just installed CWM via odin and all seemed well then I tried installing two different ICS based roms and both resulted in being stuck in a reboot loop. Could I have done something wrong? I have tried some fixes I saw posted around but nothing fixed the issue.

Got the radio and no luck =/
flash superlite 5.1, it does all the work for u
I flashed superlite 5.0, where is 5.1?
but 5.0 did it all for me too and didn't work =/
loom for darkside wipe and flash it. Superlite 5.1 just got posted, try it. If that doesn't work, odin back stock, reflash cwm, and flash superlite again.

After Odin, did u boot into the phone and let it cycle and then install Odin cwm? Give that a try. Also, most of the updated ROMs already have the proper radio, no need to flash. Let us know how it goes.
Run the: ics odin one click. Then odin cwm recovery. Then flash ics rom. Or just flash this rom and you'll be good to go

I don't know what you've done to your phone. Perhaps if you make a very detailed list of what your setup is and what you've done so far we can help get you going. Be specific
Afternoon iLiberate,
What carrier are you with?

EDIT: Actually you know what come over to [RoM] ~[4.0.3.]~TEAM PERFECTION~REVAMPING
Now a couple of things before you start.
I am using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472954 for my recovery. I have had issues with a newer version but this one has helped me through a ton of issues I have had.
(Flash this with ODIN first)
I also recommend getting a wiping script DARKSIDE Super wipe. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487706
(Give props to the guy that put this script together. Keep the zip file some where easy to access, you will be moving it to your phones external SD card along with the rom zip and kernel files.)
When you go into the TeamPerfection thread it is gonna be kind of confusing looking at all the links. Basically you will see 3 Themes (AOSP ICE, KOBALT, Phone Candy) then a link to a rom that is already themed, and finally the stock rom which you will need if you want to flash any of the three themes I listed earlier. For now I would just go for the Sense release we can always change what it looks like later.
Also you will need a kernel.
If you're with AT&T I would suggest getting Mohan's kernel. If you're with a Canadian carrier I would suggest Romracer's kernel.
From here you can basically follow the guide in post number 3. It is really simple just need a little patience and it will go through. Also if you have any titanium backups from Gingerbread, please don't restore those apps when your phone comes back up. Just scribble down a list of apps you currently are running, make backups of SMS/MMS if you wish and then manually download them one by one from the market. Then you can make a Tibu of the apps so if you want to change what your phone looks like you can just restore all the apps in one go.
If you need any more help please feel free to PM me, I honestly don't mind or even post back here. Gonna be doing some work around the house but I'll check back periodically.
