Question about messaging - Samsung Infuse 4G

Does anyone have any insight as to why the stock messaging app would have me download just a regular text message? Doesn't happen every time but enough to get on your nerves.

Never had that happen unless it was a mms (picture)

One thing that did come to mind is it seems to happen when someone sends me a text from an iPhone. Could it be that the Android knows it's superior and rejects the text from the inferior iPhone?

+1000000 hahahaha
mine does that but when its a txt over 160 char long
then it will promp me to DL and comes out like a regular txt
other txts less then 160 char are fine tho

I've never had that happen but if its a problem you can try go SMS, chomp, or handcent.

Check with them if they are using iMessage or something like that. I remember hearing about a texting app on iPhones that uses data and allows iPhone users to text for free.

Pop-up notifications.

I have looked and looked.
Is there anything that makes all notifications pop-up? I know its what people hate about the iPhone, but I like it for some apps. If there is anything out there just point me in the right direction.
Thanks!

You could use sms popup for text messages. It's similar to how messages show up on the iPhone.

The problem with that is it only deals with text messages. And I use Google voice. I want it for all notifications. But I guess there isn't anything at the moment.

You can use BugMe for custom alarms.
Tasker likely can create popups for notifications, but I have not done this.

Text message going to wrong person

I installed better keyboard 8 and sent a few text messages. Found out they went to a completely different person in my address book. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm not sure if the keyboard app had anything to do with it or not.

Text messaging issue

Ever since I started flashing these leaks my text messaging is messing up. When someone new sends me a text and I reply, its sent to the LAST person I sent a text to . What's odd is this problem goes away if I use a third party app like go SMS. Any ideas?

Why not try a ported ROM and see if you still have the problem? But maybe you can pull the texting apk of a different ROM and are it it does the same on the leak
Froggys go ribbet
I prefer running stock rooted.

The leaks are far from being bug free...no telling what has happened...test flash something else to see if it the rom or the mms. Apk ....I've never had that issue

MMS question

On my nokia e71 you could send a mms without attaching anything to it. I sometimes need to send long text messages and when doing it through the default messaging app it won't let me select just a text mms and I haven't found any third party apps that will let me do it either. People are receiving my long texts as 7 or more texts and they don't come through in order. I figured it would auto convert it to mms but it doesn't.
Is this possible?

I though I had it figured out with gosms but that was a dead end.

OK I have officially tried every sms app there is. I just can't figure this one out.

Alternative SMS?

So I've been thinking about dropping my SMS/MMS bundle plan to safe a little money. There are some free apps in the Market to text for free with data. Which do you recommend? I am currently testing Pinger, which is great. The only flaw I see is that I'm not able to text with the original number I also use for calling (which creates confusion with my friends and family.) Also, when I'm on Edge the app doesn't load/refresh for new messages. Any body find a (near) perfect alternative?
Thanks

Doesn't that require people to use the app as well? I use it for international texting with my brother but he also uses the app, can you send to a dumb phone and receive from the same person?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Nope. The other end should have whatsapp too. But its better than juggling two numbers, one for calls and the other for text.
I have free global texting so I hardly use whatsapp even.

Doesn't that app also require the person receiving the message to have it installed? And does it use the native number? Hmm. Google voice seemed nice, but I couldn't understand how it worked and doesn't support MMS.

I'm not sure if this will work or not but have you tried the GO SMS GO chat?

Why not use one of the IM clients out there? That's what I use to text my girl while she's in Canada.
What about Google Voice?

As I said, no MMS support.

I use Viber. It's an all in one and it's free and no adverts!!
People that you message do require it though as of course it uses Wifi or your Data Plan!
Also this allows to MMS/SMS in one shot also your can call people with this app. Again all using data so it's a VoIP app.
I tested the calling feature and it comes in quite clear! SMS with it is good also.
Hope this is somewhat of what you were looking for...
