Hi, i have a opportunity to get a sensation xe bricked in some way very cheap and i want to ask what you guys think about this. The person said he doesnt know what happened with the phone since he got it that way, but he said when he connects the charger the led blinks but the phone is not startable. What do you think, is this hardware or software brick and is it worth the risk to buy and attempt to fix?
thanks in advance.
It depends on what you mean by "cheap" bro..If it is software bricked, if you check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522351
they actually found a way to unblock the sensation. Its worth a try reading it before you buy. Cheers~ good luck to you bro.
by cheap i mean trading my optimus for it
sure it would be nice with a better phone without giving extra money, but on the other side i am not sure if its worth the risk
If you decide to go ahead with the trade take a laptop with the unbricking stuff and ask if you can try to unbrick it before going ahead wwith the trade. Unless the optimistic is a spare phone you no longer need, I wouldn't want to take the risk of trading it for an unusable/unrecoverable device

if the led blinks while charging phone is not bricked :/ try to go to fastboot if you cant turned on. theres a thread called SENSATION UNBRICK PROJECT. check that thread

The LED is a pretty good sign, although if you go with the idea of trying to unbrick before trading, his mind might change

I had the samsung galaxy s from ATT or captivate/cappy and the phone was truly unbrickable. I seriously messed up the software in that phone many times and every time I was able to solve it with a jig. i cant remember the exact resistances but i believe it was 201k and if you touched the 3rd and 4th terminal of the mini usb port the phone would pop right in to download mode no matter what.
Point is i love being able to mess with my phone with out ever having to worry. Is there a set resistance that will bring the phone in to download/recovery or is that a samsung sgs1 thing?

thanks what i mean... It is a risk we all take. But it sure is nice to have a permanent solution to bricking such as purchasing/making a jig for just 2-3$ from radio shack.
Mike I am sorry man. I love your rom and I hope this doesn't slow down the awesome speed you have been kicking out updates to ARHD.
when these things brick they go into some mode and can be recognised windows the driver is something like this QHSUSB_DLOAD
which i assume would allow something like Qualcomm Programm Support Tool v15.20 to work with the very latest SOC's etc
the drivers are avil but not sure if anyone has found that software freely avail and the right files to flash to get the phones back to life..
I think we should contact AdamOutler since He's great about bricked thing.
A jig won't work guys. The sensation is different than the Samsung devices. However there is a way of going into download mode. We are working on a method to restore bricked devices, but its not as easy as on the Samsung... You'll have to wait long enough before you can use it to restore your phone back to life

Hello everyone just bought a cable from Amazon and it got stuck in my USB port and broke my new Phone and the online merchant said that he would send me a new cable but that wont fix my phone now I'm heart broken it took me two years to save so I can get a android phone and be part of the android community now I feel so lost please help by the way my new phone is that. HTC Sensation .. thanks for all your wonderful help and advice ..
So how has it broke ? Has it snapped off inside the phone ? Have you damage the pins ?
Show us some pics
if it is in warranty , you could try sending it in for repair under warranty by saying USB port came out when you unplugged it from charger .....

Dude just call HTC and don't say anything about buying it used, just act as if you are the original owner. You should be able to get free repair or replacement phone.

call htc and LIE say that it happened with original usb cable.
hopefully they will fix it
Yeah if the device is still under warranty the warranty is totally transferable if the device is sold. Just contact HTC and they will probably ask you for the IMEI number and that will tell them if the device is still under warranty or not.
First off the phone is a month old and the USB port came out with the cable so I bought a battery charger but I wanted to modd my phone. It came from the united kingdom and I'm having a hard time getting through but I wont give up.. Thanks everyone for your input your all so awesome ...
Wow that suck how hard you pull that cord ???

I agree with everyone else above! Call them and lie, they wouldn't know if your the original owner. If they ask for your receipt, just tell them you misplaced it cuz it was such a long time ago...

Whatever cable it is, it shouldn't be getting stuck in your htc sensation. Just call HTC and make a complaint and hope for the best.. If not visit the nearest HTC service center, or maybe the place where you bought the phone from?
I'm curious...could you tell us what cable you bought...and also...if possible the link to said cable...just so no one else would make the same mistake.
Bought the cable from Amazon it also came with a windshield phone holder the cable was the cigarette style USB charger
Is it micro USB or just regular USB?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk
wierd
That's quite weird .. u can try to remove the broken charger pin with a forceps if its stuck in the charging port ..
But if u damaged the charging port then u can call for a replacement
HTC will (NOT) fix or replace your phone. That type of fault is not covered under the warrenty it will be seen as it was fine when they sold it and the damage happened when you plugged in and unplugged the cable.
I work in a phone shop and get this problem in all the time , they used to replace the ports on Sonys but not any more.
The phone would be classified as B.E.R (beyond economical repair )
SORRY TO CARRY THE BAD NEWS.
you need a new phone as the charge port is attached to the motherboard. (Or someone who will replace it, most engineers won't, too costly)

It's. A micro USB thank you ...
Edit: was going to send back to htc and hope for a free repair. Accidently did the command of death and now its bricked LMAO!! anyways waiting on unbricking team to make their official release. thanks guys!
Hmmm no one else ran into this same problem? Any ideas at least?

I had this problem with the volume down button. It would only work every other press, whether in the OS or bootloader. T-Mobile claimed hardware failure and sent me out a new phone (not even a refurb but brand new).

hmmm I didnt buy my phone from tmobile though Ill give it a try anyways.. however my volume up button doesnt work at all in the OS
All the more reason to get a replacement. Fyi I didn't buy from T-Mobile either! Your phone is covered by manufacture's standard 1 year parts and labor warranty. You just get it serviced through T-Mobile because it's a T-Mobile branded product. The warranty is 100% transferable.
hmm just got off the phone with them, they said I had to contact HTC directly, and they dont have any "warranty" information on my phone since it was not bought at tmobile.. I bought it on craigslist... but i didnt tell them that..
they basically said they couldnt do anything about it.. = (
Call back and talk to someone else. You unfortunately got a rep that didn't want to do their job. They can look up warranty info by imei number.
They did look up the warranty info, and told me they had no info for it... Just called HTC i think Im going to send them the device and see if they can fix it
Do you have a T-Mobile branded sensation? If yes, then trust me call back and talk to someone else. The warranty is transferable and when T-Mobile does the warranty you don't need to send in the device first because they will send you a refurb unit and return shipping box and label.
I think my ATT htc one x may be hard bricked...
I was playing around with ROMs and lost track of time. The last recovery I had on there was clockworkmod (was going back and forth between it and twrp).
I was trying to install the new jellybean rom and it kept on giving me an "assert failed" error. At this point, I deleted the assert lines from the recovery script as advised by one of the posters, and ran the install again. Went through... rebooted and...
The phone is completely dead now. I think it may have discharged? I plugged it in to the wall socket and nothing... absolutely no lights, no screen..... Power+ vol down does not work either....
Please help me, is there any way to recover from this situation?
Wrong subforum.
You don't flash a Tegra One X ROM to your Qcom S4 One X did you? I assume the partition layouts are quite different, so this is bad.

Doesn't seem like a rare thing occurring. Either people are overseeing this or they are not really aware that for you can't flash a rom made for a tegra quad core device onto a dual krait.
I used this....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763240
Sheesh..... Is this meant for the tegra? I never thought I would do such a thing.... I was aware of the issue/hardware differences....
Is there any hope? Actually, in device manager it shows up as QHSUSB_DLOAD and I heard thats a bad sign?
If it cannot be fixed, does anyone have an estimate about how much HTC would charge to reflash/fix it?
My signficant other is as po'ed at me as can be... especially since I had really pushed for the upgrade.... man...
Yes it's meant for the Tegra One X, that's why it wouldn't install (that, and it's not in the AT&T One X section). You bypassed the check the install script does to make sure you're installing it on the right phone.
In short, yes you have buggered it, QHUSUSB_DLOAD is a state where you can write things to the phone, but whether anyone as done any research into it on the S4 One X I don't know.
As for getting it fixed, I have no idea on cost, however... if you convince HTC that you didn't do it yourself, it might be possible to get it done under warranty.
Edit: Did a bit of research and /system on the Tegra One X is is HBOOT on the S4 One X, that's why it's ruined your phone.
htc would just replace the motherboard and charge for that - loads of people have reported the cost its something like £169 to replace motherboard, which would of course un brick it.
Have you tried to keep it plugged in to a charger for an hour or so? My HOX was dead too but started to flash red light after an hour, moment after solid light and it booted
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
He doesn't have an HBOOT any more, there is nothing he can do.
This is why people should stop being stubborn and call that phone HTC One XL. These kinds of situations would happen sooner or later.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I guess I did... I actually had come to that page via google and since, perhaps I was a bit sleepy, did not verify the source... should have....
Is there any fix at all? Like loading the drivers and reformatting it or something?
Im a bit confused about the motherboard replacement: since its a software issue, cant HTC fix it with a software update? Ill call them today and post the answer on this group as well, but knowing what I am dealing with may help in talking with them.
Thanks to everyone again
No fix that I'm aware of. You really need to be asking this in the XL section though. The phones really are quite different, we don't have the mode you're stuck in (not being Qualcomm based).

Hate to say it but your phone is dead. It's not revivable ar this time and so your only option is jtag or warranty replacement because you overwrote the Hboot.

I am sorry, QHSUSB_DLOAD is dead end at every HTC phone. There is nothing you can do. I know what I am speaking, I hardbrick my last HTC in the same way.
But quarrantee will work, HTC cannot find out that you root it. They will replace you mainboard..as someone already mentioned
Not quite, there is a debricking method for the Sensation that can recover from it.
In most cases though, you're right.

Thanks... any hope for this being possible for the one XL? Also, could the mods please move this thread to the ATT section (sorry for posting it in the wrong section... but I really didnt know the importance of the difference.... wanna look at my phone? )
Thanks everyone. I think I might send the phone to HTC to get it repaired.... although the s***ty thing with that is that Ive heard they take that opportunity to replace the motherboard instead of just replacing the software, and hit me with a big bill rather than a reasonable/fair price....
So.... trying to be honest (by not returning the phone as defective to HTC) ensures that I get scammed by them... :victory:
Possible? Yes of course, that's the point of that mode as I understand it, with some other HTC phones you can hook it up to a RIFF Box and load it up.
Likely? Probably not, as it'll take people looking into it in depth to figure it out and as far as I can see, no-one has/is looked/is looking into it on the OXL.
It really does look like you'll need to send it to HTC, which (as you sound quite honest) will probably be expensive.
Hi guys,
The Situation
My friend recently dropped and smashed the screen and digitizer of his Sensation z710e. He has since bought the Sensation XE model from another friend for £100 and even though I have offered to see if I can fix the old phone he said he is just going to harvest the battery, memory card and bin the phone.
Question 1
On examination of the phone he was going to bin, you can still use the touch screen on the portion of the screen that is working so it seems it is just the screen and digitizer that need fixing. Do you guys think that it is worth me replacing the screen and digitiser? I have taken apart phones and other similar devices a lot of times but have not replaced screens, while I do not think following guides will be a big issue I am worried about where to source the digitizer and screen. Can anyone suggest a good place or should I just go for ebay?
At present the price for the both parts is about £45, combined with a replacement battery and sd card I would be spending close to £60. Do you think that this would be a worthwhile spend for this phone (bearing in mind it will be used from the get go)?
Question 2
I have told my friend I will root and unlock his new Sensation XE for him, I am planning on following this rooting method and this unlocking method. If you would agree these are good methods, what custom ROM would you suggest me flashing, if any? (he is interested in something cool)
Sorry to pester you guys with all these questions but I would really appreciate it if you could give me some advice!
Thanks very much,
Wetfoot.
Hi,
1) I'd change the screen/digitalizer first and if it works you buy the other spare parts you need.
It is not that difficult to change if you follows the tutorials and have the right tools.
2) those are the right threads.
suggest to start flashing the viper S, which is working really nice.
regards

Thank you very much for the prompt response!!!
Do you think ebay is OK to source a new screen and digitizer?
Is £60 worth the spend for this phone?
Is Viper S suitable for both the z710e and the XE?
Sorry to be a pest but if someone could advise I would be very grateful!

If its the cool factor then I dont think anything is quite like ViperS and yes it is suitable for both Z710e and XE (Z715e)
