Hi i have installed the new ice cold sandwich on my desire s, and they suggest to install tiamet to that rom. I have tried installing the kernel via rom manager, but without luck. I am s-on, unlocked via htcdev.
I think i should install it from recovery and select zip from sd, but in that kernel i have downloaded there are none boot.img file. As i understand the kernel is in that file, or am i wrong?
Any suggestions?
ps. i'm a rookie and bad at english ;-)
Look in the icecoldsandwich thread. The boot.img has been posted several times

I have a HTC Desire, which I rooted using Unrevoked.
This updated my recovery to ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7 - which was great and I was able to backup/restore/apply new roms. Also ROM Manager worked and I could use that application to access the recovery modes/scripts.
ROM Manager then got updated, including the ClockworkMod (5.0.2.0). Now ROM Manager fails to run any of the scripts when starting in recovery mode.
When I manually boot in to recovery, I am still on the 2.5.0.7 version and not the latest. I've tried applying the 5.0.2.0 update - which updates for that boot, but on a reboot reverts back to 2.5.0.7.
So, my questions are;
- To update my recovery program do I need S-OFF? Currently still have S-ON.
- If S-OFF, will a simple 'apply update from sdcard' update it?
Thanks, A

Samsung Galaxy 10.1 - Stock ROM.
I have S-ON on my Hero and I always updated my recovery. I don't think it would be a problem.
Don't use rom manager. Just copy the file to your SD and flash it manually trough recovery (flash/install zip from SD), it should work.
Thanks.
but.... nope! It's stuck on ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7! As I said I can flash it to 5.0.2.0 and use it, but next time I enter recovery it's back to 2.5.0.7!
If it's not S-ON that's causing it, could it because I rooted with Unrevoked? Some how that's locked it to 2.5.0.7?
Thanks, A

It could be unrevocked, but not sure. I rooted a Desire owned by a friend but with S-OFF.
He never had any issue.

I have the same problem.
Some help?
Thanks
O.
same here...tried everything!
Same here.
Rom Manager fails. (says it's worked, but upon boot to recovery it's the same 2.5.0.7
Rom Toolbox just fails and admits it.
I tried following this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608042 thread, and tried basically the same thing via the android-terminal as well. Every time it fails.
When trying via the terminal (android or adb) I get erase and write fails, and a run out of memory error. I would like to update CWM so that I can partition the SD using the phone.
Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.
The Answer
Well I found the answer for me. My problem was that I still had S-On and had to get that to S-Off as apparently my phone (HTC Desire) has an advanced security feature put on by HTC that stops you writing to /System, which is a necessary location to write to to update CWM. I got S-Off by using revolutionary, which was pretty noob friendly despite the scary words on the page. (google for revolutionary s-off)
Revolutionary just requires the HBOOT version and the Serial Number of the phone, which you find under the battery. DLed the fastboot drivers as they recommended as well. Once I got S-Off, I was able to use Rom Manager to update the CWM to 5.0.2 or whatever the latest is now.
Hope this helps you as it did me.
PS I have previously tried re-running unrevoked whilst the phone had BCM ICS (CM9), which didn't work (error was "is your firmware too new?"). I then downgraded to CM 6, and tried again with unrevoked, but the Rom Manager still wouldn't upgrade CWM. I checked HBOOT and as suspected still had S-On...Revolutionary is your answer methinks
so which CWM RECOVERY is latest without S-OFF and with option to partition SD EXT2/3/4 etc? thanks.
Hi guys I want to install Virtuous Inquisition and need some help.
I am used to just downloading a ROM, and flashing via ROM manager... however in the virtuous inquisition thread it says you must install new firmware and says something about SuperCID.
Can someone please explain to me what SuperCID is, and how I install the correct firmware. I have read some of the guides but it doesnt make much sense - they seem to be aimed at people who already know what they are doing lol.
Also, if i do install this new firmware, would I still be able to go back to my old rom (android revolution HD sense 3.0) via my backup?
Thanks a lot to anyone who can help.
Install adb +fastboot drivers
Install device drivers
Nav in cmd to fastboot. (Find the sticky for supercid)
Download the 3.24 firmware. PG58.IMG and place it on your sd card.
Find the ics rom you want and put it on your sd card in no folders.
Download android revolutions superwipe script (zip) put on root of sd card.
Boot phone into bootloader (volume down plus power)
It will update your firmware to 3.24 (PG58.IMG)
Once finished choose recovery.
Find superwipe script and flash it.
Find tour ics rom and flash it. Enjoy.
Sorry for being short. Im at work and cant go grab links for you. But that is a quick run down of what you need to do granted you are already s-off and have a custom recovery installed.
Once you have successfully upgraded to ics delete the PG58.IMG zip off of your sd card.

well then you know the basic stuff on how to install ICS to your phone.
1) What you need to do now, is to follow step four(4) on this page.
follow step 4, to get CID
when you got that right, you cid should be 11111111.
2)Now, you need 4EXT. install it from here
3) you need to install Firmware. you need this FW, to get the latest android 4.0.3 with sense 3.6 to work - Firmware from 3.24.401.1 & 3.25.401.101 RUU
found Here
you download it, put it on the root of your phone, just as the ROMs you installed before.
4)you also need superwipe, to clear all errors - found here .look for superwipe. put it on root also.
5)download the ROM you want, i have this. take the XE one, if you want beats (note XE works on your non-xe also)
put it on root.
INSTLLING:
1a)now, do a backup in your recovery, before you do anything, so if your phone gets in trouble, you can go back. DO A BACKUP!!!
1b)start by installing 4EXT.
2)then install the FW (PG58IMG.zip) as if you would install a ROM.
when its done, dont reboot. take out the SD card, and delete the PG58IMG.zip file from your SD card. but sd back into the phone.
3)Now, you do a superwipe, via 4EXT (as a rom)
4)then install the ROM you want. (always check if the rom match the FW)
during the install, it might ask you different questions, so follow carefully..
If you cant go into bootloader, go to Settings>power and unbox the Fastboot. try again...should work now.
this is all
Hello, I got a brand new HTC Desire S (Android 2.3.5, Sense 3.0, HBOOT 2.00.0002)
I wanted to root my phone, but even with all the tutorials here it was immune to it. I decided to install Reaper v.3.0 ROM on it. After hard times I did it... But I would like to come back to my original ROM. I have problems with it, because I found one prerooted ROM here, but when I install it and run, it loops on the boot screen. Can't do anything with it.
Could anybody help me with it?
I am a complete noob with it...

Did you flash the boot.img separately from fastboot after flashing the ROM? If not, then you need to do that. Do a google search for fastboot flash boot boot.img

OK Here is how to do it..
From Reaper ROM zip file locate boot.img file
now reboot your phone into fastboot
then from command prompt run "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
reboot your phone and then it should work fine.
After that follow the guide here to revert to stock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604255
Sorry guys, i think I wrote it unclearly
I mean Reaper works great. Just I downloaded the ROM from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/private.php?do=showpm&pmid=7191875
and that one loops. I did what you have said about that boot.img with all the ROMs. Doesn't work on that second ROM ;/
OKAY, THE PROBLEM IS OVER I FOUND SOMEWHERE AN ORIGINAL ROM WHICH I INSTALLED. EVERYTHING WORKS FINE!
THANKS EVERYBODY FOR HELP!
My htc desire s is htcdev unlocked.
I installed the fallout ics rom after rooting the phone. But before i had made a backup using CWM rcovery. when i had flashed the fallout rom i also flashed boot.img file [which came with the rom] separately as it did not boot without it. Now when i try to restore my backup all goes well but the phone does not start. htc logo comes and then after 5 seconds or so it turns off and recovery boots. I thought that this is a boot.img error. so i also flashed the boot.img file present in backup using adb. But still the same result. I cant use unstable builds as it is my daily phone so i would like to go back to the original htc 3.0 stock rom. Rooted preferably. Any ideas how i can do it. I cant find any stock flashable zip sense 3.0 and android 2.3.5 rom which was released last year. If anyone could upload it for me i would be very grateful of help out with my backup. I know its long but please help. Im stuck..
This thread has the flashable zip of the latest rooted stock ROM. I don't think the link in the first post works, but there is a 4shared mirror later in the thread.

Hello,
I have HBOOT-2.01.0001 RADIO-3822.01.08.14_M eMMC-boot and I'm running newest Cyanogenmod RC 7.2.0 RC1. Yesterday my phone was stock RUU and I went to HTCDEV.com and unlocked it. After that I flashed the recovery to Clockworkmod v.4.0.1.4 through ADB. Put the CM RC 7.2.0 RC1 .zip on the root of the SD card along with Gapps .zip file.
Then I rebooted into Clockworkmod recovery and installed the 2 .zip files and rebooted. It would not boot and was stuck on HTC logo screen. I found out that I had to separately flash the boot.img file from within the CM RC 7.2.0 RC1 .zip and then everything worked fine.
(Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I did do a backup from within the Clockworkmod before flashing the CM rom)
Ok, so I tested Cyanogenmod for a couple of hours and found out that it was a bit faster than the new stock Ice Cream Sandwich (latest update per 20 april 2012) and it had a lot of ekstra features, but the interface and layout is really low end in my opinion. I gave it a honest try and spent some time changing settings and layouts and even downloaded a couple of ADW themes. Nothing that was even near the new ICS.
Bottom line is that I really want to get back to the original stock RUU Ice Cream Sandwich and I'm unable to
Attempt 1:
I have tried to restore the backup that I made in Clockworkmod and it seems to install just fine. But when restarting it gets stuck on HTC logo Screen. So I thought, maybe this has something to do with the boot.img that has to be flashed manually. So I took out the SD card and put it in my PC using a adapter. Found the boot.img file from the backup inside the clockworkmod/Backup folder and flashed the boot.img file and I'm still stuck on HTC logo screen. It will not boot after recovering the backup no matter what I try.
Attempt 2:
After googling a lot I found the website Shipped ROMs and found my model which I believe to be VIVO (I have a HTC Incredible S from april 2011 in Norway (Europe)).
The only logical RUU i can find is: RUU_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.30.405.1_Radio_20 .2808.30.085AU_3805.06.03.03_M_release_199308_sign ed.exe
Since the other 2 RUU's listed are ASIA.
I downloaded the WWE RUU and ran it. I followed the instructions to the point and got the message Error 155 after about 30 seconds right after it is finished with sending.....
Now the phone will not boot again, stuck on HTC logo screen. And so I'm running out of ideas. In other words I'm stuck here
I reflashed the same Cyanogenmod rom and at least that works again
Anybody have any suggestions in how to solve this or any info at all to direct me into the right direction? This would be much appreciated
I'm thinking maybe anybody knows where I can find a stock ROM .zip file for this phone modell that I can flash the same way i do Cyanogenmod (as described above)?
Maybe even an older version like Froyo, but then I hope it is possible to update to latest stock RUU just using the built in "search for update" function in settings.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. T. Nuis
