Overheating problem - Motorola Atrix 2

I buyed atrix2 5days ago when i use games and web for 5min the screen was overheating my phone is not rooted and using motorla rom any solu
tions please.

What do you mean
Overheating? what do you mean. was it crashing or did it just feel hot?

My experience
mine actually feel's hot when i play or in conditions of extreme usage. So if you are not getting any visible problems, don't worry. I think they also have a temp protection in case the processor might overheat.

my phone have this problem,too

Screen not responding correctly
When I have my phone plugged in it gets hot and the screen does not respond correctly. I'm not sure what the cause is but I believe it has to do with how hot the phone gets.
Is this the problem you are having? I have two Atrix 2's and both of them (one stock one using Blaze Rom) have this issue.

I had a Razr, and the screen was overheat, but Atrix 2 is never (of course playing game or surfing webs for a long time)

i have the same problem too.. i think it is because android software is downloading in background.. did you turn on background data all the time?

Background Data?
Wait are you telling me if I turn off my background data the phone won't get hot enough to interfere with the screenworking correctly?

I haven't noticed any abnormal heat on mine....wonder if the Otterbox has anything to do with that

Nope. I use otterbox defender and still no heat

Yes the background data enabled if i'm going to disable it then the problem will solve?

Yes it's only overheating no crashes no problem with phone

I can say that Atrix 2 is a "cool" phone, from inside to outside.

If both of them have the issue, wouldn't you think about replacing the charger? That's what is messing up your screen and probably causing it to get hot as well
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium

First we need to know: is it getting hot when its charging or just running on battery?
I believe that most phones get pretty hot when they're charging and running something heavily processor-intensive wouldn't exactly help.
Second, I suggest you install the app Watchdog, it'll keep an eye on your processes to see if any apps are misbehaving and consuming too much of the cpu.
Third, try to turn off things that you don't need. If you're playing a game then you probably don't need wifi/bluetooth/auto-sync/etc, also make sure your brightness is set on automatic and not to the brightest setting possible.
If this doesn't help report back with more information.

I am using the stock charger; though I have not noticed the problem in Airplane mode. Nor since I'm changed to Sonya rom.

Probably an app running wild and you solved it by switching roms

My phone hit 102 degrees today. Hottest it ever got. Was playing a game for maybe a half hour. Running ATRIX blazev3 red theme overclocked at 1100mhz. Should I be worried if it continues to do this or maybe turn the clock speeds down a bit?

Phone shuts off on higher temp

I don't know if this was told before or not, but I noticed in my phone when it shuts off is when temperature gets higher, not phone temperature, environment temperature, when I'm home phone stays up normally all the time but when I'm out and put the phone in my wallet it just start acting stupid and keeps turning off. We g2x owners are waiting for a software fix but it is actually a software problem? Hopefully yes but it seems more like a hardware problem to me, we'll see when the fix is release.

there are threads in here explaining what all needs to be done with your new g2x to possibly achieve optimal battery performance.
drain battery completely and then charge to full
hard reseting is a good idea. back up your apps with astro file manager under tools or w/e program you like.
I achieved great battery life and zero reboots following these steps but I still had to reboot to re initialize GPS because it stops responding on an app demand basis. longest I have gone was 110 hours of up time before having to reboot manually because GPS would not kick start
now I'm on my second battery shipped to me by lg thru my warranty. I let the battery recharge on the phone while the phone itself was not powered on. day two and it gets warm but not over the 40° C warning labeled on the battery. I will be updating the thread I started on overheating issues once I know definitely if the issue was resolved or not. I had troubles when hot spotting my data at 2g and 4g speeds.

I hit submit by mistake ... I have long thumbs
to finish I had issues hotspotting, the phone would get extremely hot. also while YouTube browsing and streaming.
my advice to you is watch the noon video on YouTube for new xda'ers before posting. it details etiquette on these forums in a humorous manner

Heat alone cannot be the problem. It has been around 95 degrees here and I have ridden around in direct sunlight with the phone mounted to the handlebar of my bicycle with the screen on full-bright running GPS/Cycling Computer program (for hours at a time, although my phone only lasts about 3-4 hours running like this.
I have only had reboots if I had a bad install of a ROM that was corrected by re installing. Since many people run without problems I don't see how a software fix can solve the issue. If you've eliminated the possibility of a bad install by reinstalling the ROM or factory reset then the only thing left is bad hardware, since the software in use is common to many but only you have your hardware.

Possible BSOD cure..

I got my G2X last week and of course had to root it and load the latest CM7 nightly but after i did this anytime the screen would timeout it wouldn't come back on. The buttons lit up and there was a little light escaping the four corners of the screen but that was all. This problem continued every time the screen would timeout so eventually i just set the timeout to 30min until i could diagnose the problem.Anyway my last phone was a Nexus One([probably doesn't make a difference) and I used the same memory card that i had been using in the Nexus One for the last three years to root and run my apps on the G2X.
This usually isn't a big deal because we do this all the time but I decided to see what would happen if i tried to load CM7 and run apps from a fresh memory card so I did the experiment and it worked no more BSOD even when i try to get one. I'm not sure if the other card had an issue or what because as I said it worked just fine in the Nexus but it was the problem for the G2X. Maybe since it had been in the Nexus so long it dint want to cooperate with any other phone who knows but I figured i would pass this along because I've been seeing a few people with this problem and I thought this could help everyone out.
To be honest, I believe its the battery.
I have 3 G2X batteries. 2 Stock and the big 3000mah one.
I had to use the big one for a few days because I needed this phone to last long without charging.
I went back to a Stock battery. I have 2 so I just picked one. And it went Black Screen of Death every time it charged. It froze my phone constantly and the phone also got very very hot. Felt like my phone would melt.
I really got pissed and tried the other stock battery. And...... its fine. I haven't had Black screen of death, no crazy overheat when charging, and really the phone is stable. I'm shocked honestly.
I'm willing to say at this point its the battery. I've used the big 3000mah and I never had the Black Screen happen to me on it. But I hate using that huge battery because its so big. Also, because my phone isn't in a rubber case when using that monster battery, so I feel like my phone is unprotected.
I really believe the hardware issue is inside the charging circuits and the battery in use.
I'm on CM7 Nightly by Kang. I don't flash that often anymore. Its the Jan 13 ROM I think.
Just stating what I've seen happen to me. Its the battery/charging circuits. I might get Black Screen of Deaths, but with the other crappy battery, it happened at least 2 times a day.
I never got this but I have got random reboots on MIUI....That's all
To me the battery ic chips are bad that controls the voltage at what level.. pior battery quality assurance led g2x ****ty performance.. iam myself looking to buy new battery..

I had a few bsod prior to flashing and a few after flashing...HAVENT had one since replacing the stock battery. This is all i know.
Flashing faux's CM7 kernel seems to of fixed the freezing during charging for me. Going on 1 week now without problems
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
When i first got the phone from my friend to check out. popped my sim card in it i would get a freeze every few hours or 10 times in 5 minutes some times a full day and nothing. Got mad at it reflashed CM7 on it and played with it a little on wifi put it on my desk and forgot about it for a dar... went back and noticed it still had not froze so far im on day 3 with out haveing any issues at all with the phone not a single freeze or reboot.
So its been going on three days. im giving it one week with no sim card in it to see if it freezes. Using the phone as normal over wifi at home... and using the hotspot on my vibrant to use the G2X to make calls with groovIP and text with google voice. along with normal use of the phone like taking pictures/facebooking/emails ect.
any thoughts on this?
I agree on the battery not playing nice with rest of hardware. Just got 2 hyperion 1800mah's and now my phone has locked up more than 5 times on 3 different roms. Just like undervolting and instability issues. I have owned 4 G2x's and I have 5 different makes/specs of batteries. Also, I've owned both early and late model versions of the phone. The battery is definitely the weakest link

Personally, I think it's caused by several different problems. I've been using the same battery since the phone came out and the only time I've had this happen is using Faux kernel, even after reflashing a couple times. Flashed Trinity ELP over it and it was fine. *shrug*

Touching all over the screen?

Hello, i have been having a problem where my phone will automatically touch all over the screen, i can tell because i enabled show touches, i have formatted my phone before and this is still happening, could anyone help me with this, thanks in advance. i used to have this fairly often but it's been a while now. i would fix it by wiping down the screen really well, leading me to believe that it might have something to do with grease or something that gets on the screen. not positive tho..

Well, now that i have installed some mods and other stuff it seemed to have stopped. Don't know why the mods would affect it... I will wipe it down though just to be safe.
It's just the way it is - as it's winter now, and it's cold, it happens to me and my friend all the time, when we are using the phone outside. Screen off and on and it's working for another 30 seconds
yea when its cold outside mine does this as well +4C and lower. I took it apart and re seated the connectors it made little to no diff. when its warm i have no issues at all.
Could also be something on the screen itself - even a screen protector that gets damaged could cause an issue.
Also a case could cause the problem - I've had similar issues with my case/screen protector interacting with the screen.

The same thing is happening to me. I thought I was going nuts! But yes, when it's exposed to cold temperatures (35 degrees or so and lower), the screen can develop a mind of it's own. Kind of sucks in Wisconsin!

I have had this problem with the both the new Q LTE I received when the Q LTE launched, and also with the refurb unit I have received from Sprint.
Is there an explanation of the issue and a fix?
Should I swap it out at the Sprint store for another refurb?
Thanks.

Touch screen responsiveness problem?

Well this is weird. This morning I woke up and grabbed my G from next to my bed and the touch screen is being all slow and not responsive. I can't swipe left or right without doing it very slowly and deliberately. Same thing with bringing down my notification drawer.
Its making the phone near unusable. Even to type this all out I couldn't use Google keyboards swipe typing feature and have to hit each individual button really slowly.
Anyone know what could be causing this?

Install this and see how it behaves https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=multitouchpro.tests&hl=es
Thanks for that useful little app. It registers all my fingers fine, and its good if I swipe slowly, but if I swipe too fast it loses my finger for a second, which I guess is why I have a problem swiping.
I have no idea what's causing this still though since its been working fine for the past month.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Do you by any chance have the charger plugged in while doing this? (My nexus 4 screen acts that way when I connect the wall charger)
Have you tried resetting it?
It's not plugged in, I did try rebooting it but not a reset. I'll have to give that a try now.

Same here, part of the screen is unresponsive, except if you move your finger very slowly.
I have the problem described by OP if I am charging with a high ampere charger. It is solved by me by turning the screen off and on after unplugging it.
I forgot to update. The problem just kind of fixed itself over a few hours. I took it to work and it was still having the problem, and then I took it out of my pocket a few hours into my shift to check a text and it was working like usual.
I dunno. Magic I guess.

Guy who did a waterproof test on the Moto G encountered the same issues you described. As the phone dried out the screen slowly came back to life and became responsive again.
I suspect that you have moisture egress into the device, it could cause a strange capacitance differential affecting the digitiser, or even just a short.
Have you used the phone, in shower room, in pocket while exercising. In rain. Taken it from cold outdoors, into very warm indoors. All these things can cause moisture to condense inside the device.
If it happens, the symptoms will reduce as the phone completely dries out...

this behavior happens to me with stock keyboard in whatsapp, after star typing and pressing the "a" key in loop, press the home button and start multitouch test (YAMT) and the screen area that is not responding is where the "a" key is located....
after a while the screen start to response in a normal way...
i tried swift keyboard and guess what.... the same issue again....
this is weird...
note: try to remove the grip shell
Solved,
Okay so I had this issue just now and i got worried, but there is nothing to worry about. The problem is in the charger, use a different charger
my 2 have done this a couple times and I think they were charging at the time. I unplugged the charger but no change. Then I removed the silicone cover I put on and it immediately worked fine both times I did it. I did not turn phone off or reboot. It did not start this trick until I put the covers on. Covers barely touch the screen on the sides. When I replaced cover it still worked until the next time it became unhappy with the cover. Anybody else...................
Update-just checked my other phone. I removed cover w/o unplugging and it did not restore it. Unplugged charger and it was fine. Almost seems like both are contributing to it. more research necessary..........
Maybe the phone just wants to be fondled???????

Galaxy S6 Overheating after OTA update

Hi There,
This is the first time i've been so stuck i need to ask for help, so here it goes:-
my wife has a Galaxy S6 (sim free G920F) for around 25 days, Last night it prompted for an OTA update, which we allowed however today, all it is doing is complaining about Overheating and it needs to turn off, when putting it back on charge it says battery temp is too hot after it is left for a bit unplugged you can plug it back in and it will charge, but the error returns. saying it is too hot.
all since the OTA update
it currently on stock 6.0.1
I've tried to clear the cache and do a factory reset. but neither have resolved the problem.
anyone else had this since the update?
Many Thanks
Paul
Most likely culprit is the fast charging feature. Try disabling it and see if that resolves your problem.
Settings » Battery, disable fast charge
If that fixes your problem I'd say try a different cable and charger with quickcharge support.
You can also try turning phone off then trying to charge.
If it still gets crazy hot I'd say your battery is quickly going bad and you should get it replaced.
If it works fine without quickcharge at least you narrowed down the issue.

Just power off device, then press power+vol up and home button. When you see samsung logo relase just power button. When you enter in recovery just navigate to wipe cache partition and confirm with power key then reboot device. This is good for device after ota update, battery drain problems etc

What happens when you power the phone off completely and plug in charger?
See if it'll fully charge, this will rule out software / os issue.
Better to find this out first before your left with a dead phone for a couple weeks I've been there.

Hi
It happened to my galaxy s7 and my friend's galaxy s6. Both in exact same time (after update)
After update devices start to overheat without a reason during normal usage (Web browsing etc).
And I mean really hot - this kind of temperature that makes me worry about hardware.
The weird thing is that even that I flashed previous ROM (downloaded from sammobile and flashed with odin) the problem still occur. I thought that wiping all data and cache and flashing a ROM should totally remove any change that has been done to device by update, but it seems like I "can't go back" to the state from before the issue.
I searched the whole Internet looking for that issue hoping that some people already started to complain about it and by this - confirming that this is a larger problem related to update. Right now this is the only topic that I found.
Could be that people are still not aware that their recent problems with overheating is not because of some crazy app lagging (that's what my friend first thought was).
In addition when you try to Google the issue you got 102910 tutorials about how to resolve overheating by disabling fast charge or not using phone in the sun... lol.
Strange. One possibility is that the temperature sensor(s) inside the phone are defective and reports inaccurate temperature readings. I had this problem with my ex-HTC One X+, it would report high temperatures when in reality it's nearly ice cold (during the winters), I had the service centre replace the sensors for me.
My S6's battery temperature never exceeds 40°c, while the CPU occasionally reaches 70°c, at that point, my S6 would perform an automatic soft reboot. But that's it though.

Solved
I had to allow it to turn off and let it cool down. left it 4 hours, turned it back on, (in all honesty, trying to replicate the problem for RMA) and all fine, over heating message disappeared and no problems since really weird.
anyway thanks for all the help guys

I think better app for cpu temp is CPUZ. It gives you more info.
Right now I'm on custom rom (superman rom) and with custom superkernel 1.4 and it seems like the phone overheats less - but I do not really know what are the good standard Temps for processor in basic use.

How do you know your phone 'overheats'? Does it show any message on the screen saying it is or does it self reboots? If it doesn't, it's not 'overheating', basic logic.
My S6 has 'overheated' only twice, it self rebooted.
