I am on an unlimited data plan and don't care if my phone downloads large podcasts in the background while not on wifi.
I found out that LKG_MOConfig.xml and Downloaded_MOConfig.xml from /My Documents/Zune/PimentoCache/Keepers control this setting. I can bump up from 20MB to 200MB and reset the phone and it indeed works; but just like when changing the OEM store, this appears to reset itself after a day or so. Does anyone know if there is a way to make this change permanent?

Hey this really works. Just downloaded a 82MB file from Marketplace over 3G. Have been looking for this since i got my WP7. This should be in the Dev n Hack section.
Good catch. Unfortunately i have no clue as how to make it permanent.
If you can use the Root Webserver (see my sig) you could try marking the file as Read Only (there are other ways to mark a file RO, this is just an easy one). See if it gets overwritten then... I haven't tried.
Okay, I changed it and set it as read-only. Ill come back in a few days and let you know if it worked
Sent from my PC40200 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
It's now been two days and they have appeared to stay, so it looks like this is a valid solution
Other files in this directory have updated more recently but the ones marked read-only are as I've left them.
I cant browse my phone with a file manager. I am interop unlocked. Does anyone have this in a XAP that I can install to my phone ?
I'm working on an app that will enable selecting the Marketplace options (OEM and MO marketplaces, max download size, etc.) and setting or removing the ReadOnly bit on the relevant files. It'll take a little time, but hopefully not more than another few days, depending on how much time I can spend on it this weekend (no guarantees).
Awesome! this is my biggest grudge with WP7, I have unlimited data, and my HSDPA connection is faster than my home internet connection! lol

Now this really sux.
I browsed to some site using my HTC Wing and less than 24 hours later, I started losing functionality in my phone. It started with the Start menu losing entries, then my bluetooth ceased, following that I lost internet connectivity completely and I even started having issues trying to place my calls. SMS msgs started coming in with different dates/times.
I'm stuck, In need to sync my phone up yet the sync software has no effect on the phone whatsoever.
I read a little about any possible causes and someone suggested to check my sd card. It's working fine and my files are still intact. Taking it out does not change anything on the phone. Soft and hard boots were performed ofcourse.
Anyone's input would be greatly appreciated.
tmobile sux in general. i had the wing for a few weeks and way too many problems.
i switch to cdma less stress on the brain.. better voice quality, etc..
tmobile just has a sloppy network and all my friends seem to have problems with them,. have you considered finding another provider? i don't have a solution for you, only a suggestion. ditch tmobile.
cept cdma is old school technology, gsm is the future now...and yesterday.

cdma might be older but far from old school. guess thats why i can download at 1.5mbit/s and upload at 400-600kbps.. faster than my home computer.. it's old for sure, yet it's a lot faster than gsm, go figure!
i didn't intend to start a debate. gsm is newer technology but that doesn't mean it's better.. and by no means im saying cdma is better... but look at what cdma does that gsm doesn't, then you decide which is better.
My only two suggestions are: Hard reset, Reflash the ROM.

I love Windows!
No virus on Wing But corrupted directories!!
I still haven't given up. Ran anti virus and anti spyware progs with no luck.
I don't have internet connectivity since I did loose my start menu. I was able to have the wifi working and sent myself an sms text message with an http link so that I could get internet explorer running. I was able to download the progs and check the phone for problems.. None unfortunately.
I did get total commander installed to get a better look at the directory structure and what might be missing. It turns out that the majority of the directories in \\windows\ have their names corrupted (showing boxes or maybe different fonts)..
Activesyn does not work so i can't transfer my files.
Can someone please tell me if there's a way to rename the directories and with what?? the rename command in total commander does not work and when trying to access the directory to see its contents I get "Error 3 changing to dir!"
PLEASE help.. i don't believe in hard resets.. there has to be another way around it.
btw, they directories that are corrupted are located in the main memory, not the SD card.
Could you back up PIM.vol and the other *.vol files in the root of your device, and also backup the "my Documents" folder and then hard reset?
I have had a similar problem with files in my Extended ROM on my prophet, but a hard reset was the only way to fix that.

I agree GSM is awesome. Also to the kat who has the wing. Hard reset your phone throw it in bootloader and flash it to its original rom
Guys I am really struggling with this phone. I have wasted 2 entire workdays now trying to get it how I like it. Yesterday I rooted with motofail2go and ran into an issue with usb only recognizing as charge only. Turns out I had to enable debug mode, turn off the phone, turn it back on, and then disable debug mode. Fixed the problem at 130 PM today.
At 145 PM today after doing this fix and running an ap called reverse tether my mobile data has disabled itself and I cannot get it to turn back on. Wifi is fine. Like I said I ran into some problems with debug mode switching settings around even when outside of debug mode and I cant for the life of me figure out how to reset my data connection.
Key fact: Even though the phone shows no data, when it boots up gmail always pops up with hundreds of new messages that I havent had the time to check nor did I choose to open the gmail ap. Its like gmail can still access the internet but it is disabled for me or any other function. For all I know it could simply be chached messages showing up automatically without checking for or recieving new messages.
I have done a soft reset and cycled airplane mode a few times. I have cycled thru the available network options and still nothing.
I am really having a hard time enjoying this phone as much as I would like to becaue of these weird issues. This is my first Motorola and I must say I am not impressed. And then it is sad coming to the XDA photon Q forum and there is no organization, no stickys, no useful threads hilighted, its like no one even cares about this phone. I have no clue what I am even doing when rooting, unlocking, bla bla whatever but at least the other forums are well organized and thoughtfully moderated. I dont even t think the mods here have the Photon...
Rant off... TIA
I seemed to have all kinds of random issues and problems when I first got this phone rooting and applying the first few mods, but...knock on wood they all worked themselves out and it's been solid.
A few weeks ago during that time I too experienced the loss of data issue. I was on wifi all day while at work tweaking & playing with the phone, then when I left work,...bam,..no wifi. Reboot, nothing. Airplane on/off, nothing. Tried updating the PRL, weird thing is I could watch it turn the 3G on to "phone home" to Sprint, then it would say the PRL was current and the data would be back off. WTF? Haha..
Surprisingly, what ended up working for me was the SprintZone app.
I opened the Sprint Zone app.
Scoll to the bottom and in the lower right there's a "Help" tile.
Scroll to the bottom of that next page and at the very bottom it says Update Profile.
After hitting that, I had my data back and haven't had the problem since that one time.
I wanted, so badly, for this to fix the issue. I just knew it would... but it didnt. I updated my PRL and Profile by wifi along with the Sprint Zone update you mentioned but still nothing, only wifi.
Can Sprint do any sort of reset?
Is there any way that Moto or Sprint have an auto off switch installed in the phone or the programming that is triggered by something like tethering without a tethering plan? Or rooting without using the Moto unlock key via motofail2go?
On a more general note can someone please tell me how to transfer files from my internal storage to the SD card? My internal memory is literally all used up by 2 games and my usual apps... i keep getting the low volume space warning popping up. Pretty ridiculous for a brand new top shelf phone.
I don't think it will make a difference, but make sure you are NOT on wifi when you try the SprintZone update.
I wasn't connected to wifi when it worked for me. Probably separate causes behind our similar issue, so what worked for me may not for you, but worth a shot.
I found out what it is:
Why did my mobile internet stop after using this app?
It has been reported very rarely that mobile internet stops working after using the app. This is due to the Appear as 3G feature.
If the 3G option is causing you problems, you can turn it off in the settings menu.
If this rare problem happens, to restore your device's internet, go to Mobile Network settings > Acess Point Names (APN) and choose Reset To Default from menu, or manually add your carriers APN.

Can anyone tell me how to reset my APN on the photon Q?
To transfer files from your internal sd card to the external sd card you can use a file manager like Astro or es file manager. I use es file manager personally, it has all the features of root explorer in a free app with easy to use interface. The internal storage is marked as the /sdcard directory and the external sd card is marked as /mnt/external1
In es file manager just enable the root options in settings and navigate up one level from the /sdcard directory to find the /mnt directory.
The built in file manager will do it too, but the options are limited and interface is clumsy.

System updates are generally good, but not for my phone, for now. As you all know a rooted phone cannot just simply be updated through settings app, and FlasFfire Pixel support isn't quite there yet. BUT the thing is every freakin' time I connect to the Internet it just downloads the update automatically despite the fact itself not being able to install it, and then the phone just deletes the update then try again and again... (I have turned off automatic system updates under dev settings the moment phone booted up after rooting). It has used 6 GIGABYTES of cellular data in 2 days and is really freaking me out.
I have come up with some possible solutions, but I don't know how to realize them exactly:
1. Freeze the app which detects system updates, but I don't think there's a dedicated app just for that; so I'll have to disable apps like settings to do so, which is not practical at all.
2. Change the permission of the directory to read-only in which system update files reside, but I have no idea which one either. (the whole cache partition only contains empty folders and some small files wth)
3. Block all connection requests to Google system update servers, but apparently, I once again have no idea what the host name(s) or IP(s) are.
Xposed could probably do the job... But it's not for Android N devices yet.
So please help; could anyone give me some suggestions?
EDIT: Problem solved, I captured the traffic. If you guys also have this problem and need a temporary solution, just block all traffics to *.gvt1.com.
I followed this guide to stop the updates, but still got them so then I used this to stop the notifications and it has worked so far.
Thanks! You just help me discovered a gem of an app called "my android tools"
i purchased this phone lgl164vl from a person i cannot get a hold of anymore and did factory reset now i cannot use it because i donot know old google account. how can i make this phone useable for me?
Factory reset without Google account
I will attempt to give ya advice on this. I have just recently purchased this device too lgl164vl, ie fiesta 2 lte, and from it's quick start guide I will be quoting from it says...
Under anti-theft guide
add your google account on your device
"After your device is protected, you'll need to either unlock or enter your Google account password if you need to do a factory reset. This ensures that you or someone you trust is doing the reset."
(Note) "DO NOT forget your Google account and password you had added to your device prior to performing a factory reset. If you can't provide the account information during the setup.process, you won't be able to use the device AT ALL after performing the factory reset."
Really sorry to give you such troubling news, and let's hope the screen lock and account wasn't set up for anti theft by previous owner, for if the anti theft was activated and you can't get ahold of the original owner I'm afraid you have been screwed. For everything is saved to Google's cloud on that one account it was setup with, and as far as I'm aware, at least until a custom recovery is made for this device, it's more or less bricked (as you can't use it.)
Hopefully this isn't the case and perhaps it's a network issue on which I have no advice.
thanks for the reply

maybe some one might come up with something i hope. is there anything that could be put on sd card then put sd card in phone and when phone is turned on sd card takes control? by putting some type of application on phone to take care of this
lol, good one
these tracfone things are really tight; they don't want you to keep using it without the tracfone service, like if you root it to switch to some other service
pretty much a throwaway or you might be able to use it without phone, just wifi
sorry no info; i was hoping for more info myself.
.
I'm trying to discover if the sd card can be configured as internal storage or not. Some providers disable this feature. The system says 'the card SHOULD be used as portable storage' and does not give the option to use it as internal storage (so I can expand my download capacity for pandora).
So, hopefully I can get an answer here: can I buy a faster card that the phone will be able to use as internal storage or is it really locked out regardless? I don't want to waste money on a card I don't need.
How fast should the card be? What rating? I believe it is at least class 10. (it is UHS-I/U3 Class 10)
Is it possible to 'force' the phone to use it as internal storage using ADB? (i read about this somewhere)
if so, please howto, thanks
{figured no need for new thread, don't expect it to work out, stupid tracfones, lol} ... i can do a new thread if you think i should, if there is positive info, thanks
update:
i managed to get the 'auto-install sdcard internal' program to work.. aftiss (https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/auto-formatting-sdcard-to-internal-t3583875)
seems to be doing ok so far; i migrated the data over to the sd card, it says it will start using the sd card as default app data and storage/downloads etc. But it did not say it uses the sdcard for app binaries.
The goal for me here is to get Pandora to use the sdcard to download the music with the Prime subscription for offline play, as I have tracfone and not an unlimited data plan.
It seems like it should work just fine, as music is not nearly as demanding as video, less bandwidth, about 192kBps, i think. (or maybe small b? yes, small b, like Kbps). So, really even an older sdcard should be able to do it.
With the premium (not prime) service from pandora you get your 4 most listened to channels downloaded automatically. The difference is $5/month vs $10/month.
The Prime lets you do playlists and individual songs. You have a 'my music' button to add to your offline cache. I suppose there is an automatic download as well. They say they will leave 500mb free at all times.
I suppose it may be inappropriate to talk about a pay service here, idk.

i wound up ditching Pandora, sometimes a song will play with choppy sound, like cylon music, unacceptable
i reset the phone to factory specs and it works fine. It had a problem charging with the modifications. I tried a few different launchers and always had problems. It seems like it may have some protection against modifications, even as simple as using an alternative launcher. Even with the phone turned off it wouldn't charge.
However, I did discover the charger I was using has connection problems, or maybe the phone does. It is doing ok right now using a cable direct to computer.
The information I found regarding using the memory card as extended internal storage for apps is that Android no longer enables that option because it is unreliable. Perhaps it uses too much energy, i do not know. So, I'm going with stock for now. I disable all the google stuff I can and use f-droid, mainly.
It is a 'good' phone, but I'm still probably going to get a new one when the activation time runs out, rather than paying for another year of service. Possibly one could go month to month till a new phone is issued that is good enough to justify an upgrade. But even a new one of these is cheaper than another year of service and minutes.
How do you root the lgl164vl 7.0 ? Can it be done with no pc? I tried kingo root but stops at 90%
nope, it is trash; don't bother
I'm actually in a very serious problem as I have a problem with restoring my whatsapp messages please help me asap I uninstalled my whatsapp on 16th July and last I backed up it on 7th July. Hi guys!
I have been facing this issue this whole week while trying to move all my chats to a new phone I just bought as with the old one the charging port was dying and I could not bear it anymore. So almost everything restored smoothly from Google Backup and it was like being in my phone again with a few wizard steps but then I Installed WhatsApp (WA) and gone through the typical activation and restoring process and. as many, I got stuck at the 24% sometimes, some others 31% and 39%, and never got past the 39%.
I Tried almost everything: restoring from Google Drive, transfer all WhatsApp directory to internal storage and trying to restore from there, etc. Going back to the old phone to create fresh backups just in case they were corrupted as many people suggests, getting every time more delay to be able to activate WhatsApp again up to 12h for both SMS and call activation... just to mess again and feel back at square one, I guess you all feel the pain.
Well, the good news is that I finally managed to restore all the chat history!!! (well, cannot be certain that 100% was restored but I do not miss anything ATM and I can go back up to 2012 chats so I guess that qualifies as "everything" hehe).
So, I'm posting here because I've been searching a lot on the forums and the reddit and for all the people that is having this issue recently, almost no body came back to report success and I know it feels really discouraging It certainly gives the impression that this issue has no fix at all, and that you should accept losing all the chat history and starting from the start again. But from all the data I've been gathering during this week, at least two or three people reported to eventually being able to restore the chat; they fell in one of these two categories: they either transferred to a different phone where the backup seemed to restore okay, and then exported and restored in the target phone with success (something like a "bridge" restore mode, most of the cases I've read did it this way) or they finally succeeded by sheer brute force by trying again and again and again.
I fall in this 2nd category. In the most recent attempt I was doing what I've been doing again and again and again with just minor variations in the workflow and finally succeeded. TL; DR; I think in reality in many cases attempts could succeed by just letting the phone restore the backup endlessly, by not giving up and assuming the restore process went wrong when it has been stuck forever at either 24, 31 or 39% and force closing..
But I know in the midst of desperation OCD kicks in and you want step-by-step success case scenario reproduction so I will tell you all the steps that I followed that I can remember that got me to finally have the backup to end successfully:
0. First of all, in the winning attempt I had already uninstalled WA from the new phone and removed totally the WA folder in the internal storage / sdcard storage. Not sure this is mandatory but just to tell this was the case.
1. Since I got WA working perfectly on the old phone at every moment, I backed up locally for the Nth f%!?&ยท( time. This left me with the latest local backup plus a few others in the databases folder as a result of keep messing up.
2. I copied the full WhatsApp directory from the internal storage of the old phone to a safe place. This could be the PC or whatever, but PC transfer via USB seems too sloppy. You maybe could do it via ADB, whatever, I went by the route of coping it to the external SD with some random explorer utility like ES File Explorer. It does not matter, the point is to be able to backup the full WhatsApp folder in order to restore it as similar as possible as the original. What we are more interested right now is in the database folder but having all images, videos etc in place will help in getting it like before the easiest way. (Disclaimer: Ok guys sorry if some steps are too obvious to XDA users which usually are highly educated in the matter, but I was thinking of sharing/linking this text on the reddit and others, so please bear with it).
3. I installed latest WA in the new phone, opened the app (I intended to not open but I somewhat forgot) and got to the welcome screen, immediately closed the app at that step.
3. I restored the full folder to the new phone internal storage, pure copy/paste style (as said, in my case via the SD since both phones have SD slot and was very convenient, but via USB, cloud, etc. can be done).
4. I went to the databases folder and only kept the msgstore.db.crypt12 file and the latest backup with a date (ie: msgstore-2019-11-21.db.crypt12), deleted the rest. Honestly I do not think this is crucial but I somewhat wanted to make it easier for WA to know which one to target, I thought about keeping only the msgstore.db.crypt12 but some random dude pointed that the one with the date was needed. I was under the assumption that file structure is identical in both but just wanted to get done with this and keep both, just in case.
5. Before opening again the WA to try to activate and restore with this full local copy, I opened the Android settings app and went to applications > whatasapp > storage, as suggested by user redweaver, thanks for the tip! by keeping looking at the storage usage of the app during the restore process we could get insight about if it was really doing something or the app was really stuck. Keep open for now. In my case, I saw also on the old phone that my data used for the app was 780+ MB, so I had an idea of what should be on the new phone by the time it finished (if it did!).
5b. I don't think this is really necessary but I did it just in case. I was planning to go to work and let the thing running as long as it would need, and I would make sure that the process would get maximum uptime and nothing would get in the way. So I went to Applications > WhatsApp > Battery usage (or something like it) and disabled the battery optimizations for this app. I also went to the developer mode settings and enabled do not lock the phone while it is charging and everything that looked like it might be relevant. Again, most likely this has nothing to do, but reproducible steps, right?
6. Now open WA and activate it as usual, but when it seems that the activation step ended and you go to the next screen, immediately put the phone in air plane mode or disable data/WiFi, whatever. The goal is that it cannot reach Google Drive to look for the online backup. Honestly maybe in the end is not the culprit of GDrive but many people states that the GD backup is broken at this time and suggests going the local route, so we will do it like this.
7. WA should tell you that looking for the backup is going too slow and to skip this step (sorry to not have exact message, I have it in Spanish, but something in these lines, BTW excuse my somewhat limited English ). The point here is to click on the link that says skip the step and when you are prompted with a popup, click also on Skip.
8. WA will display the typical restore / transfer-like screen where the process starts. At this point you have to enable again data plan / WiFi at least or exit air plane mode, don't know really but even if restoring from local it complains about not having internet connection, maybe needs it to encrypt with the key or something? don't know.
9. Now is the feared moment! Even this time, I got somewhat stuck at 31% again. I left it do its thing, and some time later, it prompted for the popup that has a progress-bar from 0 to 100 (honestly, what is the difference between both?!) which also got stuck at 31%. If you let it be, it starts going back and forth many times, I guess maybe its going chat per chat and the progress-bar represents each one? Dunno. Thing is, even in the prior attempts I got at this point and the backup did not finish successfully. But this time I was decided to let it do its thing as much time as it would take, until the end. In the process the phone might display a pop up saying that WA does not respond. I clicked a few times in the 'keep waiting' option, then I just forgot because I did not have time to mess with it and hoped that it was still working on the background, which bring us to step 10.
10. While we are contemplating the backup process, we can go to the settings app again and look how the internal data is going for the WA. In my case, after some time under the restore process, when I went there I saw WA had occupied 0.91 GB of data space. After going back and forth again between WA and settings, the usage keep growing: 0.96, 1.03, 1.10... I thought it was on the right track, and encouraged me to keep waiting. Maybe in the end the process is too slow for old databases. Note that some people speculates that having messages from very long ago might be the culprit here due to changes in the table structure and that this might be the reason breaking the restore process. And maybe it is the case, but even if it is, in my case I finally succeeded where previously I didn't and without deleting anything, so this does not seem to be a deal-breaker or I would have never succeeded. I say it because some people reported that deleting old conversations and trying again finally made them succeed. Now I suspect the true reason was simply that by making the database smaller the process finished earlier, but YMMV.
11. Cannot be totally sure, but in my case, I noticed that leaving WA on the background and clicking on the WA icon again might stop the process for true and bring a message about not being able to recover the chats, I got this previously, do not try to open the WA normally, only leave it temporally to look to the space usage in the settings to get back to it by swyping between recent apps to keep the same instance open and working, this was a key point in my success trial that did not happen during the previous ones.
12. And finally, while I kept switching between WA and the settings and when I last saw like 1.30GB of space used (almost twice the space compared to the old phone, maybe it leaves a lot of temp data) I don't know if I either messed with the app-switching or it really finished, but then I got prompted to the screen where you enter your name or nickname. And when I completed this step, I finally got to the chats screen and everything was like in the old phone! Where previously I would get to a lot of empty chat rooms with maybe 40 total messages restored according to WA. Hurray!
Notice that in my case it was still reporting 31% on the WA background screen under the progress bar popup when it finished!! so it seems that is not really mandatory to experience the 100% complete to have it work in the end, but YMMV.
OK, maybe not the most elegant "guide" out there but I wrote it in a hurry and my english sucks, I just hope it might help someone to not lose their WA chats forever.
Good luck!
Edit: I almost forgot but, for the sake of completeness. I also tried a certain script that can backup WA from the phone and retrieve the encryption key, it will also leave an unencrypted copy of the chats database that can later be viewed with a WhatsApp viewer like this. The script is called WhatsApp Key/DB Extractor, and it still works as of 2019, just look at the latest posts in the thread. Guys here on XDA most likely know about it but if not, you might give it a try. I tried it because I assumed that maybe I could circumvent the restore issues by going that route and pushing the backup via ADB, but turns out the legacy WA won't prepare the database due to the time out of sync issue, or at least the data seemed to be lost after performing the restore process, and the unencrypted database on the PC cannot be digested by WA latest versions by just putting it into the internal storage directly according to what other users commented. But, if you finally give up trying the restore process, it still could be relieving to know that you keep a local copy in the PC that can be viewed with another PC tool, at least you get a backup and the conversations are there, in a different way though. Maybe in the future there's a process that can restore them again to a different phone, and you could then merge the new chat database with the older backup with tools like Merjeapp.

Thank you but today I read this in the afternoon. This guy has solved it through whatsapp databases but I don't have a way go backup locally as I deleted my whatsapp databases two months ago. All I can do is recovering from google drive but the thing in this guy's scenario his chat was actually being restoring but I can't even do that since it says that I have an Internet connection problem
