I'm hoping this helps out I know with all the hype of the Thunderbolt there's quite a few users new to android that see how people are customizing and wanting to know, and repeat after repeat of questions and bringing a lot of unneeded hostility around here. Feel free to add what ever you guys think is something that is repetitively brought up. I'm running kind of short on sleep, so if I left anything out let me know!
Remember to always follow instructions and SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH before making a new thread
Remember to always Wipe Data/Factory reset/Wipe cache/wipe dalvik cache to insure a clean, fresh bug free install.
Also ALWAYS make a backup of what ever current rom before flashing a new one
Lastly, DO NOT treat the devs with disrespect they are losing sleep/girlfriends/what ever to give us these roms and kernels and everything else for free. If something gets messed up do not come at them with hostility or it will only be returned. The people of XDA will HELP you, but only if you've searched and tried to help yourself first. Also don't forget to donate to the dev's from time to time for their monster/beer/hookers and all their time and effort.

Lost data after rooting? Try these steps

This is what I did.
1.) Flashed my phone back to Stock S-ON usine this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009423
when you reboot the phone make sure you wait until you get a 3G/4G signal. If you start the process of setting up your phone to quick it will cause your phone not to activate the data connection.
2.) ROOTED my phone and at each boot made sure I had 3G/4G connection before setting up phone. (Downgrade and Upgrade).
3.) This let me keep my data connection all the way through.

How to help Improve battery life (Courtesy of Guitarchris123):
If you easily get a full day's use with stock settings, then ignore this. But the ThunderBolt is a powerful 1GHz smartphone made by HTC with a fairly small stock battery, large 4.3" screen, LTE capability, and Sense UI, so battery life may be a concern to you. There is no magic app or single technique that will make your battery last all day with heavy use, but if you utilize some of the following tips you WILL notice a significant increase in your battery life. Everyone's use is different, so 6-9 hours on one charge may be enough for some while others need 12-15 hours. Some of these may not be necessary, appropriate, or desirable for all users, so just pick which ones work for your purposes and preferences. You might prefer to keep using some of the particular features mentioned, as the benefit for you might outweigh the minimal savings in battery life. The point of this is to show people how to disable or limit features they don't need, not force them to shut down everything the phone was built to do. Feel free to add your own suggestions as well or ask any questions about the techniques.
1. Settings: (use an app or widget that helps you quickly toggle them, eg. built-in widgets, or from market such as Elixir, Quick Settings, or MySettings)
a. Screen –go to settings/display, turn down Brightness (20-30%), set Timeout to 30 secs, manually turn off by quickly pushing top button when not using anymore (instead of waiting). I have personally found that I like setting timeout at 1 min better, and manually turning off the screen with the top button every time I am done using it before I put it down or away in my pocket, that way it doesn't waste itself timing out or shut off on me when I don't want it to yet.
b. GPS – always turn off when not using, and plug into car charger (or car dock if you have one) during extended use
c. Bluetooth – always turn off when not using
d. 4G – always turn off when not using, only use when you need the speed, (the TB will get a toggle either in an update or in app form at some point, in the meantime there are several methods to accomplish this)
e. Mobile hotspot – always turn off when not using, plug into charger when in use if you can
f. WiFi – turn off when not near a WiFi signal for an extended period of time, but always use when available (faster than 3G, uses less battery), go to settings/wireless & networks/WiFi settings, press menu button and tap Advanced then WiFi Sleep policy and select“Never”, this sounds counter-intuitive, but it actually uses less power because when WiFi sleeps 3G or 4G wakes up to sync, get email, and retrieve other data (WiFi connection disables 3G/4G). Also uncheck Best WiFi Performance if its checked.
2. Background/wallpaper - use a static image instead of a live wallpaper (but these are cool, so use one if you really want to, they only drain for the short amount of time you are looking at the launcher screens). Many say the live wallpaper drain is minimal, but I noticed a significant amount while using a live one so I went to static. Have any of you tried both and noticed much of a difference yet?
3. Window animations – go to settings/sound & display/animation and select“no animations”
4. Keyboard vibration – turn off vibration function (haptic feedback) for when you hit a key (helps with speed too), go to settings/language & keyboard/touch input/text input and uncheck vibrate when typing, you can disable haptic feedback in other areas of the system by going to settings/sound, and uncheck vibrate feedback
5. Notification lights – unless you really want/need to know when something happens on your phone when you are not looking, go to settings/display/notification flash and uncheck all the boxes
6. Vibration – unless you really want this function, go to settings/sound, and uncheck vibrate
7. Monitor battery use - go to menu/settings/about phone/battery use, this will show you what is eating the most battery, uninstall troublesome unneeded app, use Running services widget by going to shortcut/settings (helps identify processes running in the background and foreground), if you want more detail check out SystemPanel in the app market, if you want to be alerted to "rogue" apps check out Watchdog Task Manager in the app market
8. Disable“always-on mobile data”– go to settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks, uncheck “Enable always-on mobile data,”you will still receive emails, texts, and phone calls, as well as internet usage, but it may cause connectivity problems in some third party apps (use manual refresh feature when opening apps to update online data)
9. WiFi and 4G network notifications – go to settings/wireless & networks and uncheck Network notification box (so phone will not constantly scan to look for open networks to tell you about)
10. Background data – if you are not using Google life-management services, go to settings/accounts & sync and uncheck Background data box (so that apps cannot sync, send, and receive data whenever it wants to, even if not currently using them). Add a homescreen shortcut to quickly toggle this (allows you to update/sync only when you want/need to).
11. Auto-sync – uncheck Auto-sync in settings/accounts & sync, or at least limit what apps are set to sync, it is better to manually sync/update/refresh in the app when you open it (set to update at launch), set update/notification frequency (polling schedule), if you do not want to turn off auto sync, just change widget or app update/notification frequency (refresh interval) in settings/accounts & sync to 30 mins or 1-2 hours, or better yet set it to update at launch, useful for Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, news, weather, Google apps, and stocks, be sure to manually sync/back up your contacts every once in a while in case you lose your phone or break it
12. Email – change sync option in settings, set email check frequency to 30 mins or 1 hour, or as items arrive, or better yet set it to never and manually refresh when you want to check/read your email
13. Camera app(s) – make sure they are not running in the background when not in use, exit/close when done
14. Video chat app(s) – make sure they are not running in the background when not in use, exit/close when done
15. Streaming app(s) – make sure they are not running in the background when not in use, exit/close when done, try to limit use or plug into a charger during use if you can
16. Google Talk – press Menu then tap All apps/talk/menu/settings and uncheck automatically sign in, make sure you exit the application by going to menu/more and selecting sign out when you are done (exiting the app by pressing home or back keys will not sign you out), if you want to receive IMs just open the application again
17. Adobe Flash Player – open browser, hit menu key, go to settings/enable plug-ins and set it to“On demand”(this way the browser only loads flash content when instructed to do so)
18. Update apps – hit menu key and to go My Apps to check for updates, even if you have selected“update automatically”because some apps require you to manually install updates (apps often get updated to use less power)
19. Location settings (updated) – go to settings/location settings. It is ok to have all of these checked, because it is the apps that use the GPS and consume power, not having these settings selected. GPS is only active when apps using it are in use.
20. Task killer – do not use them, uninstall if you currently have one, can harm phone and consume battery, just use back arrow key to exit apps instead of home key, simply monitor rogue apps instead and uninstall/replace. These are especially bad on pre-installed apps and services (many things rely on each other), so never "auto-kill" or "kill all." If you must use one, only use it on apps that you have installed that are misbehaving, otherwise let Android do it on its own.
21. Anti-virus – do not use them, uninstall if you currently have one, only download and use periodically or when you suspect a problem, do not download suspicious apps (check reviews and rating in market first)
22. Ad blocker – do not use them, uninstall if you currently have one
23. Battery meter accuracy – go to data/system and delete“batterystats.bin”after you have charged your phone to 100%
24. Tasker – can be used to automate settings (eg. based on time of day or app launched)
25. Juice Defender + Ultimate Juice – can be used to automate settings (eg. based on time of day or location)
26. Screebl - keeps backlight on while holding phone in "use" (vertical) position and turns it off when laying flat
27. Rebooting - reboot phone every few days
28. Delete unnecessary apps – determine which apps you do not need or use anymore and uninstall them, determine which apps you keep are causing the most battery drain and see if a comparable replacement from the market will do better
29. Widgets – turn off animations, do not use too many of them (choose them wisely), and delete unnecessary ones, they pull data in the background. At least make the interval/frequency of sync/updates longer for the ones you have. It may be better just to open some apps themselves instead of using the widget. Disable auto-updates on HTC Weather widget or at least set it to every few hours, manually update by tapping update icon on bottom of widget. Note that widgets that display battery, CPU, and memory utilization consume some power because they are polling the system for information.
30. No service – turn off phone or go into Airplane mode when you are in an area that does not have cell service
31. Chargers – have them handy at home, at work, and in car, and plug in when available. Try to get a 1A charger (same as included wall charger), many cheap aftermarket car chargers are only 500mAh and will not be enough to handle the GPS. VZW's car charger is 750mAh.
32. Rooting – (there are a lot more techniques that can be used with a rooted phone, such as removing bloatware and underclocking when then screen is off, but I will save that for a later thread)
33. If all else fails, buy an extended battery or have a spare handy just in case
Update1 - I came across another technique, it sounds a little strange but it apparently came from HTC regarding the EVO...some users appeared to have experienced gains from it:
34. "Calibrate" battery - (1) Turn device ON, charge it for 8 hours (or until LED turns green), (2) unplug and turn it OFF, plug it back in and charge for 1 hour (or until LED turns green), (3) unplug and turn it ON, wait 2 minutes, turn it OFF, plug it back in, and charge for 1 hour (or until LED turns green), (4) unplug it, turn it ON, and use normally. Repeat once a month or so.
Update2 - I found a few more things to suggest
35. Blockbuster app - open app, download update from market, then go to menu/settings and tap "disable movie updates." The app is set to automatically periodically scan for updates by default, and requires the new update to turn this off.
36. Friendstream - delete the widget from your home screen, open app and go to menu/settings and select update when opened. This way it isn't constantly refreshing, but rather only does so when you want to look at it by opening the app.
37. Signal strength - whether 3G, 4G, or WiFi, if whatever you are trying to connect to has a low signal strength the TB's battery will be draining trying to connect. Keep an eye on your connections, and try to be aware of when you are in poor signal areas and toggle off or switch connections if you can. Also keep in mind where your "fringe" areas are (ie. bounces between 3G/LTE/1X)
38. Apps - not all 3rd party apps are optimized for the TB, be sure to read reviews/ratings in the market to see what problems other users have had with them. Monitor your apps to see if any of them are hogging system resources (eg. CPU, RAM) and draining your battery, and delete or replace them accordingly. And remember to set the sync/update/notification frequency at longer intervals in settings within the apps that connect to the internet frequently.
39. Power saver - go to settings/power, and check enable power saver, the go to power saver settings and tweak (basically does a lot of the things we've talked about here for you automatically when you get low on battery, in case some things are left on or on higher settings than needed)

Thanks for that. I am going to have my wife read this so she can understand more on what to do with her phone, since it is not rooted and still has all that bloatware.
My phone is rooted and I have been testing with 4gLTE off/on, and seriously gained 5 hours when 4gLTE was turned off.
17-18 Hours Almost made it to 19 hours - 4gLTE off - This is with moderate use call/text/IM and some gameplay.
13-14 Hours - 4gLTE on - This is the same as above.
Trying now to talk my wife into letting me root her phone, but alas it is her phone and her choice.
Also if you want to update there is a 4G/LTE app in the Marketplace for the toggle - just search in the Market - LTE - it will show up as a Red Lightning bolt in a grey Circle.
Excellent post!

Ah, very good! I forgot about the toggle switch. Added and thanked!
Lots of good info, thanks
Awesome, thanks for the tips, should make my experience better.
This is a great post!! I def used some of the battery saving techniques.
Awesome information - wish I would have found this when I first bought my Thunderbolt... better to learn from others than trial and error method sometimes. lol
Thank you for the info... Somw i knew some i didn't... Great one stop for quick reminder..

Good stuff. Thank you.
Great post. Just one question. Why do ad-blockers use more battery? Wouldn't it decrease data use and thus battery since it prevents ads from being downloaded?
Thanks for the info!!
def a one stop shop. thank you. info much needed.

I think CM7 has issues with GPS.
Thanks !!

Hey all
First time poster long time lurker
I finally took the plunge and rooted my phone (using Revolutionary)
Sadly, I'm stuck!
nb. On the boot screen (volume+Power), it says S-OFF
What do I do now, if I want to install a ROM (or revert back to my old build)?
Thanks in advance
ps. I've downloaded and tried to use fre3vo, etc. but can't get my head round it
pps. sorry for the long winded post

Christ, that wasn't a long winded post....!
Next step is to install a custom recovery and root your STOCK ROM.
Although if you choose to download and install CWM as part of the revolutionary process you may already have the custom recovery installed. In which case simply download a custom ROM (which all come pre-rooted) to your SD and then flash it, although ensure that you read all the installation instructions first.
If you didn't install CWM as part of the S-OFF process then look at my signature where there are a couple of links
1) adb & fastboot
download this and extract contents onto PC
2) Flash CWM & su via fastboot
follow instructions in this thread to flash both the custom recovery (ensure that you get the version for your device SAGA)
Then I'd suggest you enter CWM and take whats known as a Nandroid backup of your device.
Then you should be able to download any custom ROM you like.
Any questions then ask, you should never do any steps that you are unsure or uncomfortable with as you can do damage to your device!
Cheers for the reply, ben_pyett!
I'll make a start now
I know it's not that complicated a prcoess, but I kinda jumped in assuming it'd take 5 minutes, I guess
I've flashed the Cyanogen 7.1.0 RC by NeoLogix onto both mine and my wife's handsets... and I have to say it's VERY impressive!
Initially it doubled the battery life, and with some clever settings tweaks (which I'm more than happy to post here, menu by menu, if you end up using the same ROM) I've more than quadrupled the effective battery runtime.

How do I enter CWM?
Do you mean turn my phone on normally and CWM app will be installed?
Seems I seriously need walking through this!
Grr
Here's the way I find best.... switch your phone OFF, but leave it plugged in via USB.
From your command prompt, type "adb reboot recovery"
The phone will then boot to recovery

Sounds like you've made huge progress...
I'm assuming that you've also push'd the SU file while in fastboot? if not do that as well.
At this point you should decide which custom ROM you wish to install and download that and all its add-ons and place them on you SD card so that you are able to use them once you're in RECOVERY. You should probably take the time while the ROM downloads to read the install instructions that come with the ROM, that often involve running additional WIPE scripts etc....but each ROM is different.
Anyway back to the question you asked, how to enter CWM (clock work mod) which is your custom recovery.
You should normally boot your phone and then go into Settings->Power->fast boot and ensure that its un-ticked.
Easy Way
Install ROM Manager from the market and then choose the Reboot into Recovery Option (second one down from top) and voila!
Manual Way
Power Off your phone.
Turn on your phone by pressing Power button + Volume Down button together.
You should now see the white HBOOT screen, using the volume up & down buttons to flick through options and Power button as enter you should be able to find the RECOVERY option. go into that.
Don't worry once you have a custom ROM things will be easier as most customs have an Advanced power Menu which has reboot into recovery as an option.

I have no idea what the above^ means!
Ok, I got into Recovery manually (black Revolutionary screen with menu)
What do I choose in the menu to install a ROM?
- reboot system now
- apply update from sdcard
etc.
Does the ROM have to be at the root of the SD?
Can the ROM be named anything you wish, or does it have to be named "update.zip"?
Still a little confused!
Cheers guys for your super help so far

This is the option that you need install ZIP from sdcard
The ROM can be called anything you want, I never bother renaming the ROM files that the cooks call them, so that I can easily identify which is which and it can be position in any location on the SD not just the root directory. Although try to avoid directories with spaces in for now.
Update.zip is something else so don't use that option.
Once you've done this I'd also download and install the CUSTOM recovery EXT4 as its much easier to use....you can do that by simply installing the following APK which you'll find in this post and that will install the new recovery for you.
best of luck...back in two hours.....got to go and watch MANCHESTER UNITED NOW!

Have fun!
*edit: fixed issue with ROM install*
I decided to give Cyanogen 7.1.0 RC by NeoLogix's ROM a try and it seems to be working fine
Thanks for the helps, guys!
ps. if wanted to install another ROM, do I need to uninstall the previous one (wipe it again?), or can I just copy another ROM over and install like I did before?
Zofu i suggest you flash virtuus unity! its a great sense 3 rom. i love it! it has brought my desire s to life!!
You shouldn't be swayed by any of our opinions with regards which ROM to choose, I'd suggest that you install all of them one after each and decide for yourself which one suits you most
Although first question is sense or no sense.
The reason why there are so many roms is because we all have such differing tastes
Enjoy
PS
There is no UN install task, but each ROM will have its own install instructions in the first post of the thread which will have it's own wipe recommendations

I just got my Desire S as a gift not 3 days ago and it is my first android phone.
As soon as I realized that there is something wrong with it's rapid battery depletion - I started reading up on it and presently I have red led/green led tried to calibrate battery(i think it helped some), turned off all syncing to manual, changed themes to black and no animations, turned off bluetooth etc...Basically I have stopped everything "smart" on this smart phone following dozens of advice pages on this and other forums...Which then brings me right back to battery consumption of my DISPLAY - still, even after reducing brightness to under 40% it is using around 80% of all battery per charge.
I have rooted the phone today and really need your advice on:
what ROM
kernel
radio
OS
, or anything else in terms of apps and widgets to install in order to try and at least double my battery life so I can be safe without charging for at least 12 hours of i.e.( if I'm in a train to be able to watch a movie, listen to music 3 hrs, surf 1.5 hrs, do 3 or 4 15 minute calls , text and read books for couple of hours and still have battery left in standby) - or is it just a pipe dream of mine lol...
P.S. maybe avoid flashing ROM if there is another way to reduce Display consumption(80%)
Thx much, btw, is Cyanogen is the way to go???
To add to ben_pyett's suggestion... I wouldn't exactly just "install each one, one after another" as there is actually a finite number of times the ROM can be flashed before you start to damage the internal memory (sure, it's a high number, but why cause more wear than you have to, right?)
I'd suggest you read up on the ROMs before you decide to try them out! Take a look at what features they have, what people have to say about them (particularly looking for bugs and potential problems).
Hell, if you're lucky, you may even find an introductory video to some ROMs on YouTube, which will give you a little more insight into what to expect.
As Ben said, the first question is "To Sense, or not to Sense?"
As a matter of personal opinion, I've chosen "not to Sense" in favor of better battery runtime and the "cleaner" GUI.

Even with the most riggorous (performance and feature restricting) power management setup, I still couldn't get the thing to pass the 18 hour mark (which I only achieved with the help of Tasker, used to toggle Airplane Mode during my sleeping hours etc.)
Having switched to the CM7 ROM linked previously, and using nothing but a combination of changing its default settings, and SetCPU (to scale the CPU clock for superior power saving with literally NO performance hit), it'll now run for almost 48 hours between charges (more than sufficient, wouldn't you agree?)
I'll post a separate thread in here with a complete battery optimization guide for the aforementioned ROM.
Just to clarify, after more than 4 hours running on the battery (at least half of which with the display on and the phone in use) it has gone from full to just 90%, which in itself averages to about 40 hours of runtime.
Coupled with my SetCPU scaling, this adds ~8 more hours!
This means that, with moderately heavy use (though I haven't yet had time to test absolute runtime with HD 720p video playback just yet) you can expect a screen & WiFi ON time of 24 hours, with a standby time (again, with WiFi on) of a further 24 hours!

Yes.... and just to give you some comparrative reference:
Battery Use:
Mobile Standby: 74% (that's the GSM radio)
Wi-Fi: 12%
Phone Idle: 9%
Display: 4%
Android System: 2%
EDIT: The GSM registers heavily on "Mobile Standby" because I cannot get any cell reception where I live (AT ALL), so the GSM is idling, constantly looking for a carrier. If you're in a GSM (or better) environment, you can expect the "Mobile Standby" value to be substancially lower, most likely with other feautres such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or GPS leading the consumption values (dependant on what you've got enabled)

Thx so much, HALF of that would be fine with me lol!

We are new to Android at some point, this is my first Android device.......but I've had many HTC Sense Windows mobile devices beforehand and most of the same things tend to apply.
I'd suggest as a first port of call you read this thread which is a GUIDE, and sticky for a reason kindly written by wnp_79, I learnt loads from reading this alone.
Don't expect to learn everything in a days....it takes weeks or months.....
just enjoy....and remember that we're all different have differing expectations and uses for the same devices so what suits one of us doesn't always suit the other.
ps
you shouldn't really go off topic like this.....if you need specific help say so and create a new thread or read the sticky threads which contain GUIDES and links to many useful resources. Don't expect to become an expert over night and attempt to learn as much as possible by simply reading before you risk damaging your device!
Hy to all
Does anybody of you have noticed that the device wakes up alone the display for a fraction of a second every 30 seconds. Have seen this thing happening in one evening, watching tv with light off. What is strange, is doing only when gsm is on, for example if I activate flight mode it stops.
Another strange phenomen is that, as far as I read the current widget the ma consumed in flight mode are bigger then in normal, with radio on. E.g. 16ma in normal with mobile data and WiFi off, only gsm on and around 60-80 ma in flight mode.
Can somebody explain how and why, and how I can trace that.
The phone is on default, so no S-off or route or anything, and also no branding, is bought on Vodafone but clean.

Hello, I'm afraid that I can't explain the screen flicker you're suffering from and I don't get it myself, but, I know that others have complained about it before, so there are existing threads that cover this, although I don't recall anyone linking it to only to when GSM is on, so you may have made some progress there !
Airplane mode....there is something very wrong on all our devices here as I find that Air plane mode consumes about five times the power that normal mode does. In fact on mine phone and wi-fi consumes five time less power than Airplane mode - which is just stupid.
I use Battery Monitor Widget over current widget as I find that CW clocks mA figures twice as high as BMW, you can use the maths function in CW to half the readings if you like the application. With phone and wi-fi idling my phone consumes about 6mA on CW = 12mA. In airplane mode the device consumes 35mA. Again there are plenty of other threads where this has been discussed but to my knowledge no one has yet solved it.
See here in this post regarding screen battery usage this is CW versus BMW is discussed
EDIT: the airplane issue doesn't appear to be RADIO related either as I've now used every radio there is including the latest one just leaked earlier today and the problem is still there - no change, so it's got to be ROM or kernel! Do people on non Sense ROMS, with non HTC stock kernels still suffer this problem?
I have the same issue with the screen flickering, it does not bother me that much but I noticed it. I looked around for a fix but came up with nothing.
If anyone knows how to fix this please post a reply.
Thanks.
I have said this in another similar post before....
Screen flicker can be caused by some Apps requiring the privilage to prevent the device from sleeping (basically a "Wake Lock"). If an App requiring that privilage has not be written properly, it causes the screen to flash on briefly, then back off again.
Whilst you may not find it annoying, it does actually increase wear on the backlight, as well as causes a spike in power consumption. Any momentary spike on the battery is a bad thing!
Take a look at what Apps you're running, find those which require the permission to prevent the device from sleeping, and begin either Force Closing them, or temporarily uninstalling them (one by one) until the Screen Flicker stops.
If you remove a certain App and the flickering stops, you know what the culpret is and you can report the bug to its devleoper(s)!
Come back with the same question
Hi all,
I came now back with the same question - screen flicker during sleep.
What do you find on your device?
I had been trying nearly all the roms available, and from what I had seen all do the same, from stock to the alfa tests with ICS.
I curios does nobody notice that, its only me?
No mater what applications are running or not (I kill them all - via running services not task manager) but the screen is still doing. I start to believe is normal for android, something the same like the consumption in airplane mode bigger then with the phone active (another thing completely abnormal).
Wryly is no solution for this.
PS. Just for my curiosity, regarding airplane mode, the tablets with no phone/3G capability, consume the same? I mean more then the one with 3G, when they sleep?
Respects!

The screen wake problem is well established now, and described by many users...and as far as i can see it only affects some devices (for example, ben_pyett is on Endymion - same as me, but hasn't reported a similar issue - and he's a pretty astute observer IMO). There was a thread where we had discussed it at length but i don't know where it's lost in all the cacophony on XDA.
EDIT : Found it!

Read my post above...
AFAIK, it doesn't affect battery life, as i have stellar battery performance. And i'm almost always on Endymion, which is where i see this screen flash thingy mostly.
Dear all,
I am writing this post to hopefully get some help or directions regarding my issue, because I have already spent hours and hours looking on the internet trying fixes on my phone without anything working for me so far.. So I am getting a bit hopeless....
I recently got a Samsung Galaxy S6 (SM-920I model), and since the beginning i have been shocked by how CRAPPY the battery life was. To give you some ideas, my phone loses around 3-5% of battery per hour when idling and screen off, meaning I am not doing anything at all with my phone. Overnight, I lose about 15-20% battery with my phone on airplane mode, power saving, or whatever else you want, when it is not doing anything at all..
I know that my problem is a deep sleep problem, quite easy to identify i guess, so I have spent a lot of time reading and trying to fix it by myself but so far nothing worked.
To give you some background, after unpacking the phone I quickly upgraded Android from 5.0 to 5.1.1, so I cannot tell how it was working at 5.0. It is only after that I saw that a lot of people have issues on 5.1, but it is strange because just before having my S6, I was having a OnePlus One on 5.1 and I didn't have such battery problems and everything worked fine except turning off the "keep awake" setting option for GooglePlayServices.
What I can say though, is that since I upgraded I never had so much difficulties trying to fix a problem on any Android phone than before. Basically, since day 1, my phone never went a single time into deep sleep mode.
So far, to fix this, I tried all the following:
- Reflash the stock firmware (Samsung 5.1.1) --> many times, with full Cache/davik wipe and factory resets
- Root my phone using UniKernel
- Install custom ROM (I am running XtreStoLite version 2.2) + all kinds of wipe/factory reset
- Flash different kernel that are shipped with the ROM (there are 5 different ones if I remember)
- Use my phone with only stock apps (to see if the problem comes from one of my apps)
- Cold reboots
- The "DeepSleepFix" using the Android terminal as described on some forums (cannot post the link for now since I'm new..)
- And desperately, try to use my phone normally for now
Overall, I would say that my battery would last roughly 15 -20h in total with normal usage, not even heavy, which quite sucks..
I can show the no deep sleep issue easily to you with some screenshots (will put a link to the screenshots here when I have 10 posts... for now I can't..) , I have tried many applications to try to find the root cause such as:
- WLD
- 3C CPU
- BetterBatteryStats
- GSAM
etc.
I am monitoring my phone closely for the past 1-2 weeks and so far I have never seen it being in deep sleep at all (ah yes... 0.2s in total max all the time..). Also, when I check on the default Battery menu of Android, after a full day I would usually see "Android OS" on top and using 20-30% of the battery at least.
The problem seems to boil down to a process called "LHD" in the kernel wakelock. This is keeping my phone awake 100% of the time, whether I am using the phone or if I am not. However, even with this info I tried to search online and I cannot find anything about "LHD", so I am really stuck right now.. Do anybody knows what it is and why it is a problem for me?
If any of you have a solution or can give me some guidelines to help me fix this issue, I would really appreciate any help. If you need more information from me also let me know.
Thank you for taking the time to read me,
Best regards.

Hello and thank you for using XDA Assist.
Sorry to hear about your trouble but we cannot provide technical support nor can other members reply to your posts here on XDA Assist. Fortunately there is an XDA area dedicated to the Samsung Galaxy S6 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6 which would be a good starting place. I suggest you post your question with all relevant details in the friendly Q&A forum there at http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help where the experts familiar with your device will be best able to guide you.
Good luck!

Hey,
i'll go straight to the point.
When I'll lose my phone for example, I can get it's location and acces it via shell using tasker, but all of this is useless when the phone's battery reaches zero.
So I am asking - is it anyhow possible to for example limit CPU to minimum, gpu to minium (using kernel manager) or something and turning everything off just to keep the phone turned on for as long as possible?
I am not asking how to do this in tasker, Il'l do that myself. I am just asking how can I do this?
I am rooted on custom rom with Android 9.
not sure if this app works with android 9 but you can ask for suggestions in support forum of this app
