I have an Inspire and I'm getting slow speeds. I'm on unlimited HSPA+ plan and have the correct sim.
What can I do to get better HSPA+ speeds? Currently I'm getting around 2 down.
Thanks!
Maybe that is as high as you can go in your area.

My iPhone 4S gets better speeds though. I thought there was a way to root it to make it faster such as fgd radio?
It's not the rado. It's the build.prop that enables the faster speeds. And I would have thought with the gingerbread addition it would have been enabled by default.
But sure you can root it and install a custom ROM made for better speed (all of them) or adjust the build.prop yourself. To root use Advanced Ace Hack Kit. It is stickied so it shouldn't be hard to find.

Thanks how to I adjust the build.prop? I tried to search online but can't find any step by step info.
There is a recent thread in the development section.

I'm curious about the download speeds as well. Whichever rom I've used the max download speed I've been able to achieve has been 2up, 1down. I've even edited the build prop and played around with it for a day, didn't see any significant changes.
Rebooted the phone twice after making the changes, etc..... question is, did i need to leave the changes for a day or two or even more to see if it actually helped?
On the other hand I have a couple of friends that work installing the towers (or whatever you call those things that gives us data) - in a nutshell, they say that the download speeds is hardware related and not software (they know nothing of rooting phones).... that kinda confused me more than my usually state of mind.
Sent from a dream.
Its true to an extent. For example our phones is capable of 14.4 mbps. And say the tower is a 48mbps. Our phones is limited to what its hardware capable but you can do software tweaks to optimize it to reach its Max. This is where builprop edits and apn settings can make a difference

I have an Inspire that is rooted, and after 5 different Roms for1 day each, I have settled into the revolution ROM and it really works great.I have my unlimited plan4G (most of the time I think)and I have my tendering. My question is when running the "sweetest.com" application I get 331 down and 783 up inthe evening and 2592 down and 1447 up in the morning until about noon,is this network congestion? Is there a different radio mod or flash or something that software locks the radio in HSUDA mode or whatever is making it that fast?? If anyone knows of a setting or .apk that addresses this or a setting possibly I would appreciate it,or an explanation if its not a tweakable thing might save hours of obsessing over trying to fix it.Thanks, Vegas

Yeah, the slow speeds at times are due to all the iphones tying up the network.

Funny, but I notice my speeds do the same. But most of the time it's relatively good.
I definitely think this is network congestion. My best speeds are late at night (usually about 2.5 down/1.5 up). Most of the time my upload stays about the same (between 900k and 1.5mb), but my download goes anywhere from 400k to 2.5mb..or lower
So 2.5 down is the fastest I can expect and the radio with the Revolution ROM is the Best one I could be using? I have heard 4G was capable of 6mbps,No..Anyone?? Is it gonna get better in phases, anyone know the truth?Vegas
Sorry- I'm new so I can't post in the development section but I'm using the 4.3 versions of Adrynalyne's kernels and I'm getting slower donwload speeds and much slower upload speeds (closer to 500k). When I flashed back to the stock kernel the dl and upl speeds went back to normal. Anybody else getting this?

Kernel has absolutely nothing to do with your network speeds. That was likely a fluke.
Network speeds are affected by a number of things-signal strength and network congestion being the biggest factors.
Do several tests different times of day and you will see that 3g can vary from 30 to 2100 kbps download speeds. As for 4g.. Idk what typical speeds are, but it will have a similar range.

Thanks AdhvanIt for the response but I tried testing them within minutes of flashing kernels and did numerous tests. With stock kernel I was getting about 8-12mbs donwloads and believe it or not upwards to 25+ mbs uploads (and that's consistently) while with the Adrynalyne's ROMS (using different versions- a-c) I was getting about 3-6 mbs downloads and 1-2 mbs uploads. Granted 3-6 is good enough but the disparity between 3-6 and 8-12 for uploads and 2 and 25 is quite a difference. You mention that kernels have nothing to do with speed but I was wondering if undervolting has any effect on the radio? Is anybody else having donwload/upload issues?
The upload speeds on the speed test app are completely wrong. If anything, the Adrynalyne kernel brought it closer to what it should be. Tether the internet from your phone to your computer, then go to the speed test web site. That'll show you what it should be.
Tried tethering (which always seems slower) and got the same results with the 4.a - 4.3 kernels. If anybody is trying this kernel are you getting the same results? I really love this kernel and Adrynalyn's work is always top notch. I don't know if this is just my phone with maybe a bad radio?
that has to be the kernel.. check for updates... or try somthing different.

Has to be?
I'm all ears on the explanation of why it has to be.
Hi Adrynalyn. First, thanks for all of the work and time you put in. I can't post in the development thread or otherwise I would have posted this thread there. Also, thanks for checking in on the thread. Is it just my experience with the download speed using the 4.3 kernels? Thanks!
Im using his 4.3b and my speeds are fine. All his kernals have done well for me. As stated above 4g speeds should be around 7-12down and 4-6up. At least in NY that is the usual besides some slighty higher numbers once in a while.
I would redownload and try flashing again. Are you using rom manager to flash or going into recovery. I have done both and it seems fine...
Not to jack the thread... but
I am new and can't post in the dev section yet. Adrynalyn, just wanted to express my gratitude for all your hard work!!! Tried a couple other ROM's, but just LOVE yours and came back within minutes of each experience...
In my strongest 4g LTE area I get 15/5 pretty regularly on adryns kernels and from what I understand thats all your really sposed to be seeing...
Thanks to you guys for responding- it looks to be unique to my situation then. I'm flashing via recovery. Would that make a difference? I'm in San Jose and I had been getting incredible upload speeds- frequently hitting above 30mbs. My donwloads have always been lower but flashing with these kernels I haven't been able to duplicate. Maybe it's because I'm using the stock but rooted ROM? Jrocker23- are you using the stock rom, too?
Yes, all I did was root via adb and added Adranalyne's kernals. Im running .06 stock. Also flashing from recovery should work fine. Are you using setcpu or running with the stock kernal speed?

Funny you say this because I am in the San Jose area and before would hit 15-30mbs and now with adryns~ 4.3a kernel I get only 3/1mbs @ speakeasy website. This is rather weird.. Let me try a different kernel and report back with speeds.
Smok3d-
I'm also from the San Jose area. I was getting blazing uploads but now I can't get it over 2mbs. Something to do with our area's towers? Smok3d- could you revert back to the stock kernel? I did and was getting the regular speeds- I wonder if that's it too?
Ok there is definitely an issue going on here with kernels and speeds.
I was using Teslacoil with the included kernel and my speed in 3G area was snappy, when running speed tests I'd consistently get around 1.5 meg.
Yesterday i flashed the latest Virus rom with recommended Ziggy BFS kernel, and i almost automatically noticed my speed was running considerabley slower. When running a speed test, I'd get only around 100 KB down.
So today, i flashed the latest Virus rom again but this time i flashed Imoseyon normal lean kernel on it and now my speeds are back to 1.5 MB.
Now i know that speed tests are not accurate when run from the phone itself, however, the difference in speed is so dramatic that you don't even need to run a speed test to notice it right away.

And what is it with adrynalyne kernel that is the problem? I would love to know. I'm running it and my real speeds are great. You are running speed tests, bet if you didn't you wouldn't even notice the speed. Just because you are getting a certain speed from a TEST doesn't mean you will get the same in real world performance. Do research or provide facts before you make statements you can't back up

L00k above at my post... I automatically noticed my speed was considerably slower before even running a speed test. Then i change kernels, and its magically back to normal.
I'm no dev, so i couldn't begin to explain what in the kernel would cause it. And just because you aren't experiencing the issue doesn't mean it doesn't exist for others. Who knows? Maybe it was just a bad flash or CWR didn't clean cache properly before flashing, anything is possible, but we should work together to bring resolution to issues that arise, even if it is just happening to some...

I was pointing out what I noticed, I am no dev, just pointing out what I noticed when on adryns kernel compared to other kernels. It might not lag, but i notice the difference.
I rooted my HTC inspire (with Coredroid) yesterday and i've been having slow upload and download speed since then. prior to rooting, I had upload speed above 1000 but the max i get now is 350. and my download speed was up to 3000 before rooting and now i barely get 1.5K
When you rooted did you restore the stock radio? I'm going to guess you're still using the downgrade radio.
Or is the ril matched to that radio?

I didn't do anything with radio.. I rooted it using the one click method and downloaded coredroid.. so Coredroid doesn't come with an updated radio?. What do you recommened?

In some markets, many of the custom ROMs have slow data speeds unless you do a few tweaks. A simple APN reconfig (found in my thread here) is usually all that's needed to get you back up to stock speeds. If you want to push up your speeds a little further, the methods in this thread will get you the absolute maximum current speeds that AT&T is allowing us.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976274&highlight=Poor+data+speeds+after+radio+flas <--- the answer to your problems.
thanks!..i followed the instruction for coredroid in your thread. but i saw no change in my speed.
I just got my Inspire yesterday. I used the stock ROM for a few hours including
doing some speed tests, in which I was able to get around ~4mbps on H+, and one time I was able to get 5.4mbps. Uploads were fairly consistent around 1.6mbps. The tower I am on doesn't cover that many people so it's usually easy to get those speeds.
Last night I followed the instructions and successfully rooted my phone and installed the latest Android Revolution ROM running 2.3.3. Ever since I noticed HSUPA is really terrible - My downloads rarely go higher than 2 megs and my uploads have suffered and I've gotten as low as 100kbps up. Sometimes I get full 1.6mbps up but it's rare. Sometimes pings go as high as 1500ms. Frequently the speed test would just hang and eventually say Network Connectivity Issues.
I have tried several different radios and used the matching RIL files and I'm not getting any luck - I even tried the AT&T stock modem which I had the best results on on 2.2, but maybe it's because I'm running 2.3.3 that's why I am having those issues. Again, on the stock modem on stock firmware, it worked great. But on the other modems on Android Revolution I'm not having any luck
Do you think I'd have better results if I flashed back to a 2.2-based ROM or am I missing something? Data connectivity works, it's just not very optimal.
Since I don't have 8 posts yet I guess I can't post links but here are screenshots.

You're probably not being patient enough. In the radio thread they recommend that you use the radio for at least 24 hours before making a judgement on it's performance. They take time to settle.
Also, obligatory "Questions go in the Q&A section"
Perhaps you need a few adjustments to your APN settings, there is a thread floating around here somewhere, the development section I believe, find it and follow the op. Just a suggestion.

As cdshepherd said, you probably just need to adjust your APNs. There is not a single custom Inspire ROM out there (other than the few that are heavily based on the stock ROM) that has the proper APN configuration built in that matches the stock ROM. My APN thread gives you full instructions on how to change your APNs back to AT&T stock, which restores full speeds, the same as being on the stock Inspire ROM. The concept is simple; the key to getting good speeds is simply switching to an APN of "Phone" - but all of the details are in that APN thread. To give you an example, in my particular market unless I change the APNs, all custom ROMs run slow (speeds in the neighborhood of .7 - 1 Mb/s down / 300 Kb/s up). Once I change the APNs then I get 4-6 Mb/s down, 1.2 Mb/s up.
One more thing. You said you've flashed a bunch of radios, so I don't know which version you have now. Initially I would recommend sticking with either version 26.06.06.30_M or 26.10.04.03_M for now. These are the official OTA radios for the Inspire and they both work very well with every custom ROM I've tried (and I've played with many of them - Sense and AOSP).

so would you recommend keeping the stock radios for ppl with Android Revolution HD? It seems iffy- some ppl get better data, while others get worse
Hi, I´ve installed the cloudyflex 2.4, and I lose he h+ signal, only have h (without +) when I was stock It works fine! someone know something about it??
I'd do a speed Test with either the Speedtest.net app or with FCC App. With AOSP, the icons do change from the Stock.
Speed test will help you realize, you will get same speeds as Stock.
Edit - If you do observe slower speeds, you may want to visit the Rom's Thread. A simple search would show you discussion around Selecting correct Network Types. (Read from Post 5032 onwards). Thanks to my colleague for bringing this up.

Ok, you say that the speed dont change, is only visual issue but run al full speed, but Idont know what was the speed on stock!confused:
The Speed should be what the Carrier advertized it to be for your Area. That's the speed Stock would have had it under ideal conditions.
