Hey
So got myself a nexus S in Canada, hands down the best Android experience
So anyeone know if a mod exists for name display to work.?
Rogers has it working with there android phones but it doesn't seem to work on nexus s. I know not too many providers have this feature, but name display helps alot when screening calls.
Anyone know how to get it to work on nexus s?
Thanks

It probably won't be a simple file mod, but rather a customized firmware. It would be nice to see v2.3.4 with name display in it, as I like having it working, but it's not essential to me. I want a solid phone first, so I'd give up name display for that.
Caller id? i am on rogers with a nexus s and can see who is calling me to screen calls. Check your call settings perhaps you disabled it. Or maybe rogers is denying you the service (do you have it on your plan?).

No he's talking about "name display" service which shows the name and number of inbound calls even if they're not in your contacts.

I can indeed see numbers of people who are not in my contact list. Names are a different matter, but i could not see them on my G1 either.
Name display (which is a service that shows you the NAME of a person calling, as well as the number, of numbers not in your contact list requires custom, i.e., Rogers, firmware. However, back in the WM6 days, all we had to do is switch up one file in a stock ROM with one from a Rogers ROM, and it worked fine.

Maybe a captivate file will work but I don't have a idea what to look for.

It probably would. I had used a file from an HTC touch diamond in an HTC touch pro and it worked fine. For wm6, the file was rilphone.dll. not sure which file it is for android, but I would assume that "ril" would be in the name somewhere.

I would suggest looking at all the files with "ril" in the name in both a rogers branded captivate rom and an unbranded captivate rom, and see if there is any difference. The one that is different is prob the one you need.

Are you paying for Caller ID? I had this problem with my Nexus One on Rogers. I couldn't get name display to work no matter what I tried. Once I started paying for Roger's caller i.d. then the name display on the phone worked.
I couldn't figure it out. Hopefully you have better luck.

Don't think you are talking about name display. There is a difference between name display and caller id. Name display is a service provided by Rogers that displays the name of numbers that are NOT in your contact list. It costs an additional $2/month over and above the charge for caller id. So far (at least to my knowledge), no one has been able to get it to work on an HTC Android device...
Name Display works with NexusSense Rom

I don't know why I am sharing this here.
I have just listed my G2x on Amazon and Craigslist.
This phone continues to drop the signal. I am getting calls dropped (is there ANYTHING more annoying than dropping a call - especially when it is an important one?!), signal lost and everything that comes along with it.
NOTHING (nothing!) should overshadow this issue with the phone! Not dual-core, 8MB cam, ICS or battary life.
What isn't clear to me is WHY others are accepting this.
Perhaps though, this is is the reason that the G2x (despite being a phenomenal phone on paper) barely sells online and is hard to sell in general.
Perhaps we (the people who even care enough to join forums and so on), represent the minority.

Probably because it isn't as widespread a problem as you're thinking it is. I'm on T-Mobile as well and my G2X gets great signal and call quality.
Not saying it's not a real issue for you, just saying its probably not a widespread issue for the majority of G2X users or I'm sure there'd be about 30 threads about it, all created within about a day of each other and all saying the same thing.

Get a replacement from T-Mobile or get a loaner of another make/model of phone for T-Mobile and test its connectivity. If you know of any other T-Mobile customers with the same phone and/or a different phone, phone the same numbers from the same location and see what happens.

I never knew it could be a SIM issue. I WILL CHECK THAT OUT !!!! Going to the TMobile store right now!
Will update.
Thank you all
IT WAS THE SIM CARD INDEED !!!!!
Part of the reason I posted this here, is because I knew the good people of XDA will start a brainstorming discussion.
My other SIM card was very bad looking, and it is now changed to a NEW one. The TMobile representative said that I MUST change my sim card when she saw it.
I AM VERY HAPPY I posted my situation here!!!
No lost calls (did a 20 min call to test it) for now - but obviously will check on that more to confirm
THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL YOUR HELP
(and thank you not for the guy that decided to send me a message saying "U think we care"?!)
Nice to hear that. Despite the other issues with g2x, I never had dropped calls. Speaker could be better but for calls, phone is reliable.
Another happy g2x
thank you!!!
UPDATE: The dropping of call continues! Just drop a call 5 times (!!!) within an hour. This morning as well.

1. Are you running the stock firmware?
2. Has this issue continued from the time you purchased the phone up until now.
3. Does the issue appear to be location specific? The reason I ask is because you stated it was working after the SIM was replaced then come back 24 hours later saying you had problems again.
4. Have you tried contacting T-Mobile customer support? They most likely won't be able to solve your issue if it is a problem with your handset (beyond trying a SIM swap, they will have you try your SIM in another known working handset typically, to isolate your device) but they will be able to rule out issues with your account, the network, etc.
I heard that the Skyrocket had an update to 2.3.6 but it got pulled because it was messing up some phones. I was wondering if anyone knows when it will be available again or do we just have to wait for 4.0?
it should be back soon
The stock 2.3.6 rom is available in the development section., and acording to at&t the update was only issued to those who needed it. I have not read anywhere that it was messing up devices. That is most likely just somones speculation.
No...from Samsung tech support on a phone call that I made

Unfortunately, with any product, there will typically be problems with some batches. At least the issue is with an official rom, but just that batch.

I have no issues with google voice on 2.3.5. However, when I got the OTA 2.3.6 my phone would not stay connected to LTE - it kept hopping between 4G HSPA, UTMS and LTE at my house. It would stay connected to LTE about 30 seconds then spend 60 seconds in "Connecting" state. It was completely unusable for IM - popups 'unable to connect to server' etc
Finally took the phone back and they exchanged, have 2.3.5 again and no problems since.
Was there a radio update in 2.3.6? If not, maybe there were some manufacturing problems and they tried to deal with them with hardware. I do know that the first phone I had experienced major connectivity issues (under 2.3.6) that this one does not.

I figured out that it is the Google search app that doesn't work in 2.3.5 so when you would tell it to call or text someone it would just take you to the internet.

Full article from Android and Me
HTC has delivered a ROM to us however it is still having issues the reason that other sensation types have the update without issue and ours did not come out that way is because every ROM must be adapted to the hardware of the device because we use a different radio than other providers and also have applications such as wifi calling it also has to be compatible with those. What the HTC rep told you is most likely correct because once a ROM is delivered we have 2 weeks to test it and then approve it or send it back they then have 4 weeks to fix the bugs and return it back to us, where we are exactly in that process I do not know but that is how a ROM is delivered to the customer.
The original ROM was not delivered to us in November, we started testing it just recently but I think it has been longer than 2 weeks so at this point HTC most likely has the ball.
You bought a phone and it has been announced that you are getting ICS you have every right to know what’s going on with it and when you can see these awesome features. I did go into a lot of detail about how a ROM gets to the end user (you guys) but that wasn’t to point fingers only so you would have a better understanding of why you don’t have it yet, the bottom line is the Sensation has T-Mobile’s and HTC’s name all over it and both companies want to make you proud to be a Sensation owner so we are working as fast as we can to deliver it but also want to make sure that it stands up to your expectations.

A fairly meaty update that helps explain the process, the holdup and a possible time frame for when we might see the release.

It seems that HTC can't get the Wifi calling to work within spec. It didn't work the first time and TMO told HTC that they needed to work on it some more. It's going back and forth between TMO and HTC.
And no offense to our devs here, but lets be realistic. Our roms here aren't without their issues. Ie. wifi calling still crashing, mms not working, proximity sensor issues, wifi issues, bt issues, etc. but the positive is that the roms here get better than their respective base.

I don't think it's fair that the devs don't have access to the same resources that tmo and htc have either. If they did we would probably also have perfect 'native' ports of Samsung's, Sony's, and Moto's UIs, lol. it is what it is. the devs have improved on what's been released (although, I would like to see a rom that emphasizes stability instead of tweaks - Maybe I'll take a crack at it if I can find enough time, we'll see).
As far as free help is concerned... I don't know how much work they actually take off XDA (although, i'm sure it's happened, i feel like it's little). The X10 (in which I had a little previous experience) had a number of things fixed that's never (and never will be) fixed in any official rom.
but the original point was to contradict this statement: "our custom ROM chefs don't seem to have a problem" and "So T-Mobile can't get their WiFi Calling and ...". There are issues and it's not just TMO but HTC can't fix wifi calling in a timely manner. Just trying to dispel inaccuracies (IMHO).
I would rather have a clean ROM straight from HTC without T-Mobile adding junk to it anyway, including WiFi calling...
Well what it is that tmobl locked the phone up so it can't use att making HTC redo there **** its out everywhere but here in us
Looks like a corp had a hand trying to block the progress of something with hardware changes and bloatware I would love a Rom from HRC or google with out tmob trash but I am not on tmob now so I have no bloat lol

^ Likewise I depend on wifi calling. I'll pass on the other bloatware, but this isn't an optional app for me. I'm afraid that I've had no consistent luck with the ROMs available here.
I suspect that will change once T-Mobile has released their ICS update with a working configuration and (possibly) an updated app. In the meantime, I am content to wait.
It's based on my opinion.**

WiFi calling is not bloatware to people who use it. I use it everyday at home. There's no way I can make or receive call without it. I also use it every time I'm overseas. For me, WiFi calling is a must. That's why I don't dare play around different roms for fear of messing up the WiFi calling feature. I can also wait for the official update with a working WiFi calling.
So the first thing I noticed is that for some reason, there is no more Voice Dialer after the ICS OTA. Bummer since I use this all the time in my car.
I called HTC and they told me that they are looking to fix this but in their original ICS, that feature was still there. That leads me to believe that the carrier (thanks T-Mobile!), for some reason, got rid of it. Maybe it was one of the issues that kept them from pushing out the OTA.
At any rate, HTC said they are working on it (I guess with the carrier) to issue a fix for it. For the time being, they suggest Vlingo.
Anyone have any other suggestions?
This was a huge fail in my mind on the update.
So I started trying out all of the various ROMs... and come to find out, the ones that have bluetooth voice dialing dont have support for WiFi Calling... those that support WiFi Calling dont even allow a Bluetooth headset to connect...
Makes me believe that there is more than meets the eye on ICS and WiFi Calling...

Already confirmed with HTC that it was taken away with the T-Mo OTA push. It's a known issue. Not sure if it's happening only on SOME devices though and you just got lucky...
Are you on TMo?

Yes, I'm on T-Mobile. People are also reporting not having face unlock, but I have that also, and it is working.

I don't have any of those problems. Bluetooth and voice dialing work just fine on mine and I use wifi calling 98% of the time.
make sure you guys get compensated from HTC or Tmobile, when you get a driving violation for physically dialing.
sent from the Nudy Bar.
The new Elegancia TMobile 1.0 rom has everything working great!

Hmmm, that's really strange...especially because HTC themselves said it was a known issue......haven't asked TMob yet though. Maybe I should...
In any case I know I'm not the only one without the default Voice Dialer that worked so well under GB.
Currently using Vlingo but not as easy to use as the old Voice Dialer...*sigh*...

Hi masondoctorjt!
Do you think it's possible for you to get the Voice Dialer off of your phone and either post it (to help people like me) or somehow send it to me? I'd like to try it and see if if works on my phone.
Thanks much!
T-Mobile USA was made aware of the issue and has confirmed the T-Mobile ICS update removes BT voice dialing and they are in discussions with HTC over this issue.

I am sorry for not responding. Just finally came back to this thread today. I am now using elegencia tmous ROM and I no longer have the suck tmous ROM. Also I must be thinking if something different. I thought you meant that you press the Mic on the call screen and say the numbers you want to dial, which I had/have. But apparently you guys are talking about something else.
