Yup, have the same issue. Skype sound quality is terrible.
I think Skype has to fix their app to properly work with the phone.
Black One S, bought in Germany w/o branding
Yup same problem here, same issue on gta3.
..
"good" to know
tanks guys..
so its not just me...

I have the same issues, Skype and GTA have a crackling sound. HTC suggested a factoryrest , didn't help though ....
I guess this is ICS unsupported feature
Nope. Had Skype on my sgs with ICS, no problems whatsoever. Or any of the games. Beats audio issue maybe?
is it possible to disable?

stil lcrackling with new skype.....
lovely
horrible here too
It is way bad on my phone too.
Perhaps Beats Audio, are there any ROMs out there without Beats? Maybe it works on the CM9 port.
wow
Bad, bad call quality on skype T-mobile USA. Didn't the quality control engineers test all features. This is very popular app. All of this support phone #s for t-mo and HTC are not helpful. I called T-mo for another issue and told them it's not just me people reporting such and such problems on web sites. Their response: "that does not mean this problem exist, I have tested 3 devices here and they are problem free" ...wtf
The sane Gere in Italy you can't use Skype on WiFi or 3g the phone start cawing
Inviato dal mio HTC One S con Tapatalk 2
I also have the crackaling sound on Skype, but when I use my Bluetooth headset the crackling is gone...
I think it's probably feedback related. I heard humming and crackling. Both stopped after I started using my headphones.
Had the same problem with Skype. I only use Google talk now, video is clearer, sound is better
Any news
any news about skype on htc one s?
Video lag, sound problem ...
+1
Same problems on One S.
Also have Incredible S - skype work's fine on it.

Definitly not the issue cuz mine does the same with bluetooth and listening to music...not often but enough to make it annoying. Screen off then back on usually fixes it but wtf
It's the headphone plug that doing it. It can happen if it moves around in the jack
It's the phone. I had the same issue. To prove it, connect your headphones then tap on the jack a bit. U will see that it will start making calls. Turn the phone in and get a new one

Had a similar problem on my Nexus One until I got the 3-part headphone (the ones with the controls and mic) The phone was randomly skipping songs and putting itself on Party Shuffle.
On my Sensation, the problem occurs regardless. It's really frustrating, it once made 10 phone calls to a person before I realized what was going on.
You can try "call confirm" from the market. Then you will only get a popup instead of a direct call. Maybe together with "automateit" to enable and disable it automaticly if needed.
Return Phone
I had the same issue with mine and the wifeys... returned both units in and got new ones and it never happened again, called htc and they acknowledged it was a design defect on their end. No software fix for this issue......hope this helps.
solution
anyone having this problem should try this solution it worked for me. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301998

All the Skype video calls I was making used to be outputting their sound over the phone speakers. Recently, however, this seems to have changed. The sound is now only outputted via the earpiece, and I do not seem to be able to find the cause of the change, nor how to change it back. There is no speaker toggle button. Makes the video calling fairly cumbersome, since I have to put on the headphones (or Bluetooth), and cannot have a couple of people take part in the call at my end. The recent upgrade (2.5) did not correct the problem. What is annoying is that it was working OK before. I am just not sure before what. Any ideas anybody? Android 2.3.4 (stock HTC/T-Mobile), Skype is most recent stock version.

try viber.
I just used this like 2hrs ago, Toggle the mic button. I thinks it's a red icon, I've had this problem before. If not then try clearing the data. Let's us know.
Switching to another tool (viber) is not an option - it would take me less time to re-code Skype from scratch myself than to get my parents on a different program.
This is still an issue. The only way I am able to work around it is to quickly plug in my earphones and the unplug them. That seems to force skype to switch to the speaker away from the earpiece. I guess I'll have to deal with this until a future version takes care of it (hopefully).

Hi, I've got an issue with Skype since I installed ICS, everybody I vodeo-call is reporting seeing me green, apparently the video-stream is corrupted somehow, is this a known issue and is there a way to fix this, it is REALLY annoying, the video is also quite slow, "lagged" (Not sure there, I don't really trust Google Translate on this one...) the video is "offset" by a second (tell me if you don't understand this last sentence, I didn't knew how to tell it so I used Google Translate ;-) )
Thanks in advance
Try different kernel .

Its a known issue with ICS. Skype needs to upgrade their software.
Use Yahoo for video calling for now. Its more clearer and louder sound!
skype green screen sucks
Yeah, i got the same problem here and having read here and there, it's been a known issue (to us users and to them, skype developers) for a while now, so they really need to speed up things, otherwise they'll be witnesses of the greatest migration ever of users from skype to other (better supported) video-calling apps!

Hi,
This is a known issue with the ICS Sensation ROMS.
Not all ICS ROMS are affected.
It works absolutely fine on my Transformer Prime.
Does skype for you guys sound crap as well? I just got my friend a ATT One X and she is P.O ed that skype sounds so bad. Tried it for myself and there really is terrible cracking when calling. Any fixes or such?
I have this issue too, it's more obvious while Skype is ringing when you are trying to make a call.

Yep, sounds like Sh*t. Seems like multi core studdering.

Yup, same here. Sounds kind of like the artifacts you hear when you turn up a set of crappy speakers up too much - a static/crackling type sound. Seems to be isolated to skype too - sound in my other applications and normal phone calls are fine. I also have a friend with this phone who has the same skype issues.
Kind of surprised there hasn't been more posted about this issue actually. Hopefully it will be fixed with the next skype software update.
It actually crashed on me when i tried a video chat with my mom!
I think the reason is that One X is still not certified with Skype to run smoothly.
The same thing happens with my Xoom running Team EOS' ICS.
Just give it time. Skype will do an update pretty soon
I actually didn't have any issues like this. I video Skyped the first day that I got the phone and the only issue either of us had (me and the person I talked to) was that on her end the video and audio wasn't synced.
More to it, the video looks like **** too, after a while shows pink artifacts, and they grow in size, soon the whole picture become pink...On the other end they see me perfectly fine. Oh and their connection is 10mb/sec both ways...
Also one time the phone started ringing (skype) but nothing showed on the screen, not even in the notification bar. If skype used the same ringtone as the phone I would never guessed what's going on...
Skype as used be one of the buggies/resources hog/bloatware, as it is now, as it will ever be, it's not gonna change I guess. And yet, I'm using it...go figure.

Yep, I've got that problem too! I've tried a couple of different builds of Skype and still the audio is clipping, clicking, crackling all the time. To add salt to the wound, Skype sounds fine on my older SGS2.
Did you find a fix yet?
Thanks!
I can confirm the issue as well.
I would try using Tango.
+1 for suck call quality on skype. Viber runs way much better, its even better than the regular voice call

Any updates/better apk's? sorry to always be a leech on here.
Hello,
I have a strange problem with my rooted Haier W910 Smartphone (Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8260A CPU with ICS 4.0.4).
In all calls, the microphone is very low and everyone hear me very quiet.
But in all other apps, like voice recorder or google speech recognition, the mic works fine and perfect.
I hold the phone properly and also I don't touch the mic with my fingers in the call.
I can't edit something in the phone options and I don't know / can't find the right secret code for service or engineering mode
Who can help me, please?
Best regards and sorry for my terrible english
Andy

I also have this problem only when i calling out. Changing ROMs dosen't solve this strange problem. The engineer code is *#*#303#*#*
Me too
Anyone found a solution to this? I have exactly the same problem. Just done a static test when I call out using the Haier the voice levels are very quiet. But accepting a call in the voice levels are just fine.
Has to be software related??

It's seem software related but all the ROMs I checked (various 4.0.4 a d 4.1.2] don't solve the problem.
I just returned the phone to the seller.

It seems that the problem is very apparent when using handsfree, because the other party experiences huuge quality loss when the phone is switched to handsfree (switching to the loudspeaker and talking from say 50 cm away) I have however heared ppl tell me that my voice comes through worse then before anyway. Same for cellular and ip calls incl wifi
