As I was working on trying to port CM6/CM7, I realized that it is much more time effective for me to port the tweaks involved with CM6/7, rather than trying to actually port the whole thing. So with that in mind, what tweaks/aspects of CM6/7 do people like/would like to see on our phone?
Bear in mind that because CM7 is GingerBread, so although I will try my best, I can't promise that features from CM7 are portable. CM6 features should be portable, but I *promise* nothing, and will try my best otherwise.
Currently working on
An extra menu in settings to control all this crap
REQUESTS
:LED Settings that are actually helpful/useful (pending)
:Camera on Low Bat (pending)
:Customizable Power Notification (pending)
Requests that probably aren't going to happen
CM7 (until a GB source release from Samsung for our phone or a very generous donation that gives me a reason to spend a month porting a kernel)
CM7 Theme Support (built on the GB API, all themes are Gingerbread minimum API anyways).

i think the lockscreen gestures would be awesome
theme support would be cool ( dont know if thats possible)
led settings would be nice
I mentioned this to you before, but I thought i'd post here and see if anyone else responds: how about an optional flashable tweak, if possible, for those who want to be able to use their camera on low battery and don't want their screen dimmed and keyboard blacked out. (I know you can brighten the screen on low batt., but you have to do it every time after waking the phone from sleep). I believe on CM7 the phone simply functions normally until the battery dies.
I'll definitely look at the battery tweaks as that should be fairly easy to find, as for the theme manager, the issue is that its built from the GB API, as are all the themes. So even if the theme manager were ported, none of the themes would install as they would require a higher OS version
Customizable notification power control bar. What we have is decent enough. But I always liked that about CM series, being able to customize.
Touchwiz power control is good enough so no need to put this as a high-demand feature.
Are you still working on porting CM? I'd rather wait for CM than just flash tweaks every now and then.
I agree instead of porting u should at least try port cm6 which is froyo that would be awesome till we get a gingerbread kernel leak which krylon is looking into

Porting CM6 will take me at least another month. That's what I was working on the past 2 weeks, but its all the same problem. CM6 and CM7 both require a ported kernel (2.6.35), which is very tedious and frustrating given the parts that were added to our phone.
Yea I saw that when I was looking into it I'm trying to get in contact with a samsung team on xda see if the help us out to get this ported

What I'm saying with this thread is, we can essentially build CM6 on our phones, without the official title and all the extra work in porting a kernel, if we just build the parts in that make CM6 different from stock.
So that's my goal, to add enough parts to this that it will be similar to CM6 in functionality.
That's a great idea I just don't know what we can use lol

The way I see it, although I love CM and would love to see it on this phone just as much as the next guy, I don't see a whole ton of stuff that's in CM that's not in our stuff already. So if I can focus on the things that people actually use from CM, I can build things that people want in CM, rather than trying to build CM.

Makes sense, considering you're the only one working on it, that I've heard. If it takes time to port a whole thing over, why not cut time down and just port that parts you love about CM.
Honestly, with the work you and ayoteddy have been doing for our phones, Cyanogen isn't a big deal to me. I mean, this may be off-topic, but the only things I do want are to completely eliminate that keyboard lag and to keep the keyboard backlight lit whenever open. Other than that, you guys have tweaked and optimized the phone so much already.
I haven't seen any keyboard lag, where do you see this? I'll look at the keyboard backlight thing shortly, currently working on an extra menu in settings to control all the tweaks I'm adding.
I'll also add a requests list to the OP shortly. EDIT: added.
When typing quickly some inputs may skip. I read the Samsung Epic had the same problem. That phone had a fix for the keyboard lag.

Ahhh! So it happens to others too. i thought i just was messing up..i was like..i never messed up before. yess, this happens to me too and it sucks. makes uo type ike tis. (missing letters, but not that frequent)
Yeah. Just like that. It's worse when you're typing on an app that uses more resources, like typing on a web browser on an html page. Or when the facebook app is refreshing the feed while you type a status.
I contacted the developer who made the keyboard patch for the Epic(he really fixed the problem up good on that device!). he made a similar patch for us, for the Sidekick, I've just been too half-assed about learning how to apply the patch to our kernel, lol.
you guys can read what he wrote and find the patch he made us here, at the end of the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=975611
apparently, our phone shouldn't suffer nearly as bad as the Epic, but he still made us a patch to make our keypad timer delay configurable by the user!
Edit: for some reason, the letter that skips the most on my phone is the "y", haha.
I don't know much about CM, but I'd really love the option to use landscape software keyboards. I am astonished that DSamsung actually chose to BLOCK THE FEATURE, een if we PAY to download a non stock keyboard.
The keyboard fix for the epic won't work for the Sidekick, because the change that was made to fix the epic issue was already there from Samsung
Hello fellow g2x owners!
I don't post very often, as most, if not all of my questions/problems have always had solutions. But I have found no topic on this, and I have a feeling it affects very few people. I want this to be detailed too, so please bear with me.
On every cm7 (one cm9 too) rom I've flashed on the g2x, I have a screen wake bug.
When I press the power button, the screen turns off normally with the basic crt animation. When I press again to wake the screen, there is a very quick but noticeable bright flicker of white/black static lines just before the lock screen. The static flicker lasts for about a quarter of a second.
It's not really a major problem, but I notice it every time I turn on the screen. It seems to only affect the cyanogenmod-based roms, because stock and AOSP EaglesBlood aren't affected. Most recently attempted is the cm7 nightly.
I have tried:
disabling animations - screen on/screen off/rotation/windows/transitions
disabling automatic brightness
disabling lockscreen(s)
adjusting screen timeout
wiping, reflashing, wiping, reflashing
nullifier/cleanup batch
several different cm7 roms
I am on the March baseband now, but the problem existed before too. My mother's g2x has had it sometimes, but she's on stock now.
I might not be the only one either: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27487323&postcount=12
(Not my video, but same problem)
I really enjoy cyanogenmod roms, so I don't want to just give them up for good.
Could this be hardware related? Is my phone's screen somehow incompatible with the animations? Or is there a simple file edit/deletion cure? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Pretty sure they all do it, I've never noticed it before and it really isn't an issue in my opinion. I feel like it'd be labeled as a pet peeve or ocd matter. Little things like when the power down and those lines show up... just the way it is. Pretty sure it happens on all of our g2x's though... I'm on latest nightly as well.

thanks for responding.
I'm on AOSP EaglesBlood ICS right now, which doesn't have it. But it doesn't have full drivers either.
Cm7 always has such amazing features, and I was running with a full ICS layout and theme. Sure, it's probably some OCD, but I was very much close to being complete.
True wait for others to respond, I wouldn't say it's enough to make be switch roms but to each their own!

Hey guys so I've got a huge issue. I'm on now my 3rd SGSIII and I'm getting very annoyed. My screen goes nuts randomly. I think I've found a fix, but I'm not sure what's causing it, as most people don't show the symptoms. My screen starts flashing and flickering, whether it's the lockscreen, the homescreens, within an app or in the app menu it does the same thing. I haven't taken a video of it yet, but will if someone wants to see what's happening. I've had it happen only on JB, both roms and stock doesn't seem to matter. The 'fix' is the same one as AOSP rom users use, which is to disable hardware overlay, however I don't know why a non-AOSP rom would need to deal with this. The roms I've used are: Vengeance, CleanRom, Synergy and The Executioner. I've gotten so annoyed that I've gotten Verizon to allow me to switch to the DNA if I want. I've taken a few Logcat's, if someone who can decipher them more than I can to figure out what's actually wrong would be great! I've taken a bunch of logcats, but only have one posted to pastebin. It was taken whilst I was having the issues. Thanks for the help guys!

Nope, I don't run that stuff because all of the rendering updates and stuff can get annoying to look at while working. I'm able to get the same issues on a fully stock rom, and a pure flashed rom, with a few programs installed. But the fact that the hardware render seems to be the issue to me is just very odd on a non-AOSP rom.
I have been having screen flickering issues ever since I flashed the latest AOKP build (AOSP) I originally thought that it was because of the kernal and the under voting that I applied but even with a different governor and normal volt settings the screen still flickeres. After some poking around I figured you that it is only happening while I am trying to type and by uninstalling the Swype beta keyboard the screen flicker had been reduced to almost nothing. I do not know why the keyboard would amplify the effect but if I use the system keyboard the flickering becomes almost non existent.
Also, the screen flickers anytime a pop up menu is on screen, such as in the tapatalk app, the menu that pops up to allow you to quote someone..

Had been having the same issue on Baked Bean 6, flashed BB7 last night and it seems the problem is gone. BB7 being 4.2.1 I'm guessing whether intentional or not somewhere along the process of updating the "bug" if it indeed was as it appeared was squashed.
I'd be curious to know what was causing this, if by chance you find a definitive answer please post it.
Thanks
Lk
I had a very similar issue for a while, i flashed LEAN KERNEL
Rebooted twice, and problem went away.
For an update, I flashed kt's latest kernal and the flashing has ceased.

I have a Galaxy s blaze and i rooted it to get rid of the bloatware. I did not install CWM. Still on stock rom adn everything. I heard about "bln" and that it requires kernels that support it.
However it seems that only CM roms support this. I am satisfied with gingerbread so i will not flash any roms.
Is there not a kernel for gingerbread that i can flash?
-Thanks in advance
It's great that you recognize you are satisfied with GB, but I was also recently jealous of button light notifications so I looked a little into it, with getting them in ICS somehow. I was on stock rooted ICS for a time, found it fine, but it really seems that as time passed, advancements with features was always geared with whatever was the most recent.
Having BLN, from what I read anyways, requires both kernel support, as well as framework stuff that is usually just included with the rom. It seems the kernel stuff was on the easier side to do...
Assuming that is correct, if there's a kernel that supports BLN for it, you're going to need it in the rom anyway, and the stock rom doesn't do it. Which means you're going to be flashing anyway.
Having said all that, jellybean has some nice additions that certainly made it worthwhile for me to switch. I've been real happy with CM10, and wouldn't go back. But if I wanted to, it would literally only take a few minutes to switch back to ICS.
What I'm trying to say is...give an updated rom a try. I have a suspicion you'll not want to go back.
I get what you're saying. However for me its a more been there done that. I owned a Wildfire S and tried a lot of their roms and stuff but overall for me when it comes to phones i really like it normal. I hate now they includes their boot animations and extra backgrounds and all these extra options. I know they took their time to make it but i like the t-mobile feel of this branded t-mobile phone.
Anyway so you're saying i will have to flash roms if i want backlight features. However no GB roms support?
As I mentioned in the first reply, seemed that way to me when I was first looking for something with BLN.
As for the "boot animations and extra backgrounds and all these extra options." opinion, I'm not sure if this really makes sense to me.
Cyanogen for example, actually has a less obtrusive boot animation. I mean, it flashes Samsung briefly, than the circle shape cyanogen thing spins around for a bit, and then you can unlock your phone. I have not timed it, but I think it's even a faster boot time, this is good, right? I think most would agree the boot animation doesn't even matter, but let's be realistic, it's not like the stock boot animation on this phone is something that someone would say is cool, or anything. It just is.
As for the background situation... uh that doesn't make any sense either. As I'm sure you're aware you can use whatever background you want. Personally I have almost always used the "no wallpaper selection" because I like the plain black background. Icons and what not, are pretty much the same. Any of the "over stylized" stuff are just themes, something that's not even included with CM10 by default. If basic and not stylized is what you want, CM10 is EXACTLY that.
Heck, I'd go so far as to say that a large portion of the people who use CM10 like it for that very reason, because touchwiz is in fact the over modified monstrosity they are trying to get rid of.
As for the extra options...They are options, you don't have to use them. You don't even have to use BLN, but in your case I know you want to.
You can also very easily set it up to only have BLN active when you want it to, even on a scheduled basis, thanks to the alarm clock being able to change your profile, if you wish.
I've not used it so it's not a personal recommendation, but it sounds like AOKP might be something worth checking into for you.

If the icon placement and arrangement looks foreign to you, it's just a launcher. You don't even have to use it. Just saying.
In the end, customization is what makes Android great. If you want simple and straight forward, with additional features, loading a non-stock rom is by far the best way to get it!
Again I get what you mean but I've used cm on my wildfire and I didn't like it. Yeah it's a different phone but the basic rom itself is universal if I'm not mistaken just every phone have their different features. I like touchwiz and I love how fast and responsive my phone is now. I COULD get better performance from any other mod but I'm not willing to try that. My phone and my laptop don't really come across each other a lot and I like that. I don't wanna install cmw and do all this other stuff. For instance, with my wildfire I rooted and the only reason I did a custom rom was because I messed up the stock one without doing a backup. Everything worked fine for a few months then if I tried restart the phone it would boot loop. 10 minutes later after I had to re flash it and use titanium I had the phone back but it was a hassle. Maybe bad rom maybe my fault but that's the point I'm trying to say I don't want that stress. I even got tricked into updating the wildfire which turned out to slow it down even though most people said they got better performance.
Also I mean I bought a t mobile phone from Samsung and I like the professional boot animation representing that. I actually like watching the loading bar. It boots way faster than my wildfire and I only restart it when I'm in my room anyway so speed really isn't a priority for me in this department.
I just thought bln was a cool simple idea that maybe someone would have made compatible one gb and maybe I missed it when searching. But I guess not :/

It wasn't simple. Still isn't. as BLN is still buggy for us.
Thanks I guess? I'll just check In a couple months and see if they make one for gb through Odin or something. :silly:
That's not gonna happen gingerbread is a wrap. Soon ICS will be too. Open the jelly bean jar or forget about bln. I use it and love it no kinks. Plus its a lifesaver when you didn't hear a text or noti .

Aaaaaand I'm done.
So if you don't like a custom boot/shutdown animation what's stopping you from replacing it with the stock ones? That seems like a silly reason to avoid a rom
As others have stated, development for GB is over and done. If there's something you want that's missing in GB you need to change versions to get it. This rule applies to all OS's i.e. wanting trim in windows xp.

Internet is too slow and can't find the answers. I'm wondering if I can use an apk made for a different phone. It's a custom one I guess you could say. I'd have to use adb to install it. I'm really just looking for a way to get that old tv lock/unlock animation. And I have viperxl 3.2.7 with elementalx 6.7 if either of those play a factor in it. I don't think they do since it still uses the sense theme. If you have any advice to get that animation on my phone that would be greatly appreciated. And I know there's that app that will do it but last time I checked I can't use the power button with it
Doesn't Viper have CRT animations? It's been a while since I used Viper so I'm not sure.
Sent from my Evita
Nope, mine doesn't have it. Got my internet back and learned that with JB crt is mostly impossible now. I would probably have to go back to ics. Not worth it though. I had it on my old htc and I miss the hell out of it lol. Do you know of other roms that support it? Besides cmd10
Off the top of my head I only know some aosp ROMs have it built in. I think there's an xposed module for it though, that might be worth looking into.
