Hey everyone, I recently got a Western Mountain Radio Computerized Battery Analyzer so I plan to start reviewing batteries for our Epic (and whatever else I can find).
If you would like anything else reviewed you can PM me and we an talk about maybe sending yours or if you haven't ordered one, ordering it to my house and I'll review it and then send it to you. (Maybe we could work out some kind of collateral or insurance so you know I'm good for it)
Here's some of my selling accounts as testament that I'm not a scammer:
http://myworld.ebay.com/iviyth0s
http://heatware.com/eval.php?id=67594
Thanks everyone, I look forward to helping our Epic community escape the false advertising that these battery manufacturers do, and get our best money's worth
I plan to follow in the footsteps/continue the work of this fellow:

Can you see how your results correlate with the estimated mAh values reported via the Battery Monitor Widget (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.bmw) that some have been using to test battery life?
I would be surprised if that app is accurate. Anecdotally, the mAh estimates feel inflated.

I have a feeling the values given from the app are completely inaccurate, considering I use it myself to get a feel of battery vs. battery (it is great for logging percentages with relation to time) but the capacity measuring sessions have shown me very different ratings for the same battery every time I have done a monitored charging session. I personally don't trust it but I'll be happy to include them as well if you'd all like.
2 Generic 3500mAh battery reviews coming soon! The results are surprising
I think that having a battery thread with testing etc. is a great idea. Many of us are using a combination of stock 1500 mah as well as 1800 mah Samsung batteries, but there are quality generics out there that may possibly match and/or exceed the performance of stock... it's a matter of finding those and testing them out.

Thanks,
I'm currently working on the Fat Generic 3500 batteries but soon I'll get up the 1500mAh and 1800mAh OEM batteries for your viewing pleasure (I have a feeling the 1500mAh won't do too hot since it's older than my phone as it's my dad's original battery and he bought the Epic 4G when it first came out)
I'll include purchase dates of all the batteries if I can dig them up, so far the one Generic I have is rather disappointing but the other is quite impressive. I've yet to test the third as it's my daily driver but I'll see how it compares. I always knew the one wasn't at it's peak anymore and I'm guessing it's probably the first fat battery I bought when I got my Epic.
Naturally if anyone wants to send me their 1500mAh or 1800mAh (or any other battery they have) I'd be glad to add them to the the list for comparisons sake (and to get a better idea of general battery quality trends)

Also I'll soon be in possession of a Hyperion 3500 donated by Tomcat5 for testing.

Geez! No wonder it didn't feel like that much a boost. Others seem to have good luck though. Probably the build quality just varies.

I'm not sure, I shipped it out today so I havent tested it in the phone, just with my battery analyzer.
If you want I can run my tests on your Hyperion if you think you have a better one, the more pooled results the better the data!

After that test I contacted Hyperion and will be getting a replacement. 1745 mAh is really too low for a 3500 mAh extended. Ill break it in for a week and send it to you for a test if that's alright. To the other poster, my batter life was pitiful any way I looked at it. I don't know if I could get 5 hours screen on time.

That OEM 1800 mAh review really should be done with an almost virgin battery to see its original capacity. Maybe someone with a new one could send it in or someone who is going to get one could order it to you.

My new 1500mah Ebay batteries showed up tonight from Hong Kong. They appear to be genuine HTC batteries (or they're good counterfeits), and fit with no issues of any kind. I'll have to get back to you on battery life. I'll give them a couple days and see how they do compared to the stockers. For $9.99 apiece shipped, I can hardly complain at this point.

I received these batteries and charger a few days ago and I am very impressed. Obviously the life is not as long as the larger ones available but I have seen an improvement of 4-6 hours per battery. The really nice part is I can always have a battery charging in the dock. I now have 3 batteries, one of which is always charging so I NEVER worry about battery life like I use to. Very good buy for the buck

Good Morning all wanted to give an update to this kick A$$ 3500 mAh battery. It arrived on thursday at about 11:12 to be exact. It had 70% life when i put it in, at around 3:00pm threw it on the charger and was completely charged by 5:00pm. So since 5:00 pm thursday untill now [Saturday] this battery has been off the charger. I have 3G, Wifi, GPS Location Setting, Screen Brightness, K-9 mail push and twitter runing plus all the other apps that keep going. Right now im at 22% im hoping to go a full 48 hrs before it goes back on the charger. Now i had to do a full wipe and restore because i was playing with something that i shouldnt have been and this battery went through that phase also.
The extended battery puts it at about the same size as a Moto Droid. The weight is nice to it IMO. The phone actually reminds me of the old XV6700 that i owned back in the day. I highly recommend this battery to anyone who wants to be able to go 2- 4 days without recharging. Could i get more days sure but that would require turning all the extras off like when i had the standard battery could go 7 - 10 days before needing recharged. Maybe i will test that and see how it works out.

I would love to see some before and after pics with the size and even the weight..
thanks for the heads up though this is a nice addition and Seido makes a quality product as I have used them for my g1 and for another phone.
There are a few pics on the Seidio website if you click the "More Photos" button that show the bigger back piece on the phone. I think the new look a little much myself but the guy on MDW was able to have his phone working for over 48 hours without charging while using the 3500 mAh battery.
anyone have a link to any auctions on ebay for these batteries ? I didn't really want to pay $70 for one .
I dunno but at these prices I kind of want to try out these 1500mah batteries. http://cgi.ebay.com/1500mAh-Li-ion-...Accessories?hash=item2a0503c9d0#ht_2263wt_939

It fits the Hero with stock battery cover so it should be the same issue has the stock Hero battery, i.e. battery cover would not be fully closing.
I am seeing a lot of Sprint Hero owners purchasing this battery. They say if fits their stock battery cover fine, but they good extra battery life out of it. The sock hero battery barely fits our Eris with the battery cover so anyone want to try this and see what the result is? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230441767585

I was pretty glad to hear that after buying the battery.
I bought the 1750 mAh listed on there website for the droid eris and the door doesn't quite fit like it used to. It might just be this battery? Although I kind of doubt it, I sent them an email about it and am waiting for a reply now. The door fits but the left and right sides don't clamp down all the way making the volume buttons impossible to press unless pushing up an the back of the phone. Also the case I had around my phone will not fit any more.
Anyone ever try one of these batteries? They look pretty good and the small increase in battery life and low price seem worth it even if it is uses as a spare battery. NEW OEM ORIGINAL BATTERY FOR HTC IMAGIO XV6975 VERIZON - eBay (item 300401357838 end time Mar-01-10 13:48:47 PST)

sweet I'll put that up in the first post
Since i upgraded from my htc dream which had a custom japan made 2430 Mah battery iv been searching for the same thing for my O2x and iv found it.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2430MAH-F...069?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2eb76a1fad
Its the same asize as the original battery so no gay larger backs for the phone just longer life and more time gaming and browsing, just dont buy them all ill be getting one in a couple of days.
Since they have the tech to put more power into small sized batterys it makes me wonder why these big phone makers dont use these higher capacity batterys instead of giving you some peice of **** that barely lasts a few hours of real use.
Already posted this in the optimus 2x forum but in case you guys dont check that section i assume both version of the phone use the same battery so it should be compatable.
Thanks. I just bought one...I'll update after it arrives. For $20 it was worth a shot.
Just ordered mine tired of my extended battery
To Begin with thanks for the information about the battery . Just ordered one can't wait, i like my extended battery but the case is to bulky and can't use it with my dock so hopefully this battery does the work i guess when it comes in i will test it out. But overall thanks for this thread !
Interesting. Defiently be waiting for some reviews.
I wish you luck -- many secondary market batteries get the higher mAH ratings by a variety of not so good practices the most common of which is listing the mAH obtainable if the battery is _completely_ discharged. The problem with measuring it this way is two-fold:
Your phone(and the battery) should shut off before reaching total discharge -- this renders the usable mAH as a less than advertised amount.
If you manage to completely discharge a Li-ion battery completely, the damages it's lifespan, and can make it dangerous to charge.
I'm not saying that particular battery has any problems, or has a inflated mAH rating. Just an observation on common(unsavory) practices in the secondary market.
I would be very interested if these batteries turn out to have an increased usable capacity -- I have some other projects I could use them in.
references: energy density
a 2430 mAH Li-ion would ideally weigh at least 5.25 grams
and would ideally be 2.73 cm^3 in volume
the above figures do not include the housing and protective circuitry.

I agree with you and the false advertisement of battery capacity ratings out there. If you look at Amazon one particular brand PRODICELL has been accused by many buyers of false advertisement. They list higher mAH ratings than their batteries than they really are. The put their own label on top of the cheaper generic batteries. Not only that, it seems their employees have been posting FAKE positive reviews on their batteries to boost their ratings. FYI. I would be cautious of batteries that claim a higher mAH rating especially if it is the same size as the regular battery.
Note how this one customer tested the battery to determine the mAH ratings were false.

Made in Japan doesn't mean sold with honor. Often you will find a new label behind the stock one with different stats. haha
Only real way to check the capacity is to drain it and record how long it takes for the voltage to drop to the minimum for the cell. It will fall off very fast.
I can't wait to see the results on how long this battery can last. If this thing can last a full 24 hours with moderate use then this is the battery for me. That gold wrapper on the battery looks very appealing but for some reason it makes me think this battery is BS (You can wrap a piece of **** in gold, but in the end it is what it is). Damn, it's been a very long time since I have purchased something actually made in japan.
I suspect it is built similar to my 1980 andida, where it is slightly larger and heavier than stock, but still able to fit in the stock space. At least I hope it is, and I didn't just support terrorism.

Thanks for the link smoothmouse.. I just read all the posts on the links you provided, and to sum it all up this battery is garbage, basura, spazzatura, ordures, abfalle. Read the HTC Sensation thread in the link smoothmouse posted if you want to see for yourself, but if you want the quick answer: DON'T mess with this battery!
People who bought this for the Sensation noticed it drained quicker than stock; there is another guy on there claiming it fried his phone.

When you replace a battery on an android phone sometimes you need to reset battery stats or it will keep using the stats from the previous battery and will appear as tho the battery is draining faster, as for it exploding any lithium battery can do this but its 1 in every million batterys made.
I am a bit suspicious of why there is chinese writing on the front since its unlikely to be shiped from japan to china any thing chinese should be avoided at all costs but soon as i get a little extra cash im gonna get one of these because i bought one for my htc dream a while back and it worked without any problems so maybe im just not an idiot and remember to do simple thing like resetting battery stats or just got lucky and got a good one from the production line.

I completely agree with you on that one.
I've been looking at anker , HTC evo 3d and HTC Amaze batteries since they are all backwards compatible with the HTC Sensation.
These are my choices so far...
Anker 1900mah $15.00+
Anker 1800mah $11.00
HTC evo 3d "oem" 1730mah $7.00
From what I've seen on the forums.. Ankers are rated at 1700mah and the HTC evo 3d battery out performs Ankers.
There's just a lot of speculation and Hype about the Ankers.
If anyone can give me their opinion on which battery is better for the price I would appreciate it.
Anker
I've seen an huge increase with the Anker and I beat my phone throughout the day.
Get the Anker 1900mAh, top it off with an ICS rom and you'll be perfectly fine.
You can get an Evo3D battery for $7?? When I checked a while back they were going for $29.99. I guess times have changed with newer phones being out.
I'm a big fan of the Anker 1900. I know third party batteries are hit and miss, but the ones I got for my wife and myself have been great. It used to be a struggle for my phone to last all day on a charge. Now not so much if I keep my syncing reasonable.
My only gripe with the Anker is that I'm sure it's not measuring temperature correctly. There's no way I can overclock to 1.5GHz, run psx emulator for 30 mins and have it still sitting on 25 degrees celcius. It does actually run cooler than stock, but still.
Mine measured at almost the advertised 1900. Don't know how accurate battery monitor widget is, but hey not bad.

Well ankers used to be $10 but at the time I didn't believe about the 1900mah hype and due to the high reviews and popularity of the product now the price has went up to $16.00+.
I just feel like people are purchasing the anker and it's way over priced compared to other batteries in the market.
Interesting Picture with 1882mAh measured.. I'm wondering what other users measure with their batteries.
The Anker lacks a temperature sensor that is why it shows as 25C all the time. I read that 25C is the default temperature reading.
@messawood
Mine is measured for this cycle @1901mAh.
From my experience It's between 1850mAh and 1950mAh.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE35 using XDA App
Regardless of the temperature indication contact it seems like there is more than 1800mah on the anker battery.
So far the best price for an anker is buying 2 for $21.00
If anyone can post their stats or opinion on a oem HTC Evo/Amaze. It would help others.
I have purchased a brand new Evo 3D battery and will be testing it on Saturday.
Cant wait to see what it reports on battery monitor widget.
HTC Amaze battery fits in the Sensation as well. I have one in mine at the moment.
HTC is true to capacity. I'm sure Anker is lower than reported. It's not a true 1800-1900. The HTC will be pretty true. Might be off by a little, not as significantly as the Ankers. I would't be suprised if the Ankers were less than 1730.

What does it report for the amaze/evo3d battery?

I believe I've read somewhere before that you can't rely on those apps 100%. It's like false memory and that the app reads the battery at xxxx mAh.
Kind of like when usb flash drives were new to the market. The fake ones read 4GB, but in reality they were 128kb.

That's the reason why I was wondering what it reads on a amaze/evo battery.
Cause on the app it reads 1520mah for a stock battery which is true.
i am using anker and i don't think it is legit 1800.
it is more or less the same as stock....
it was waste of money

:/ well that was my first expectation of the anker. I didn't give into the 1900mah and then the price went up after people reported good reviews.. but there's "evidence" from the battery monitor widget.. which makes me wonder...
With the prices of the "oem" battery dropping down to 5.99 I went with the oem battery for now even if there's a mere 100mah difference.
Now I'm just waiting for powerskins to drop down to $15-20 dollars
Also if anyone wants to do the Chroming of their sensation the oem backcover/housing is only $13.99 which is cheaper than buying the white housing and looks better imo.

That's the reason why I created this thread. ankers used to be $10.00 before it got popular and now the price is $16.00+ but then again oem evo 3d batteries used to be 30.00+
I just wanted the best battery for the money and obviously the "oem" evo3d batteries is the better choice for the price

The 1800 mah batteries for the Epic Touch work great too. Samsung-branded OEM batteries have been much better than any of the 'compatible' batteries. Amazon has them for about $15
anker 1800mAh
I just ordered 2x of these Anger 1800mAh batteries from Amazon. Have great reports/reviews on Amazon, will report here if they're any good or not.

Check out my battery reviews in my sig to get an idea, I believe that the fat 3500 batteries have value that CANNOT be beat! (as long as added girth isn't minded)
A solid slim battery would be the OEM 1800mAh battery from the Epic Touch (just MAKE SURE it's true OEM and not a knock off that just looks like it... there are certain tells such as listed model numbers and other markings)
I find my OEM Samsung 1800mah to be substantial. Lasts the day and that's all I need I suppose. I can't stand fat batteries.

Yeah the 1800mAh batt is my favorite slim batt for sure just wish they were as cheap as the fat batts so you can choose between thin or capacity. I don't believe they deserve to be more than $1 in difference for the price/ performance to be on par with da fatties

I bought what appear to be OEM samsung 1800 mAh batteries from Amazon and they weren't stellar performers. i think it might be possible that these are seconds or b-stock or something. I had the stock 1400 that came with my phone in rotation and I just didn't see a big difference with the 1800.
However, I just bought Anker 1800s and those things have impressed me. 2 batteries and an outboard charger for $20 is a helluva deal, too. I am gun shy about buying the ones that are marked "samsung" now due to the negative experience I had. Your mileage may vary.

You may have bought a counterfeit in OEM's clothing. Can you get some pictures up of your "OEM" samsung 1800 batts??
I hear good things about Anker batteries but haven't had the pleasure of using them nor testing them. Would you want me to analyze yours?
I just bought this battery a week ago and feel as though it may be a knock off. It only gets about 8 hours of life before dying. How can you tell if it's a fake?
I guess I could have resized...oops sorry!

Hmm...that does appear to be genuine...
Maybe they sent you some used ones or possible "new" ones that have sit unused in the warehouse for too long. Would you like me to analyze them for ya?? (or any other batteries)
As you saw my dad hadn't had his for longer than 6 months and his 1800 battery dropped from 1800mAh to about 1500mAh average.
Have you fully discharged and charged them a couple times. They might need that.

I was expecting to see a MFG date on it like my two (3 year old) factory batteries I have. After a few days of using the 1800 I went back to them since they at least make it through the day. They've had a few charge cycles or more.
The first day or so was rough since the phone was reporting 15-20% power and then would just power off. I'd turn it back on and it'd say 5% or something. Admittedly when I put this new battery in I deleted the battery stats file so I attributed this initial behavior to that.
I was planning to return the battery if it's worth my time/money since I got it fairly cheap on ebay (doh!). I should have read these threads before shopping there for bargains.
How would you go about analyzing batteries? Need to send them to you?
Picked up this MPJ out off their website for $17.99 because I CANNOT find it on Amazon.
WHERE I BUY
A backup battery means a lot to me as my Galaxy S5 is running many apps, even though battery life on this phone is already an impressive part. Just received mine with a small bag, unwrapped and put it in. It seems a little larger than stock battery, ensuring a snug fit.
The 2800mAh to 4300mAh bump isn’t there for sure but there is still some increase. I’ll update soon after 2-3 times charging cycles.

After I fully charged it 3 times, it seemed to do great. This is my moderate to quite heavily day yesterday. With almost same usages (no auto brightness, average web browsing, bunch of streaming videos, texting, calling and etc.), stock downs to 20-30% by the time I went to bed and the new battery I'm at about 45%.
EDIT: Do not expect seeing any dramatic changes. Normally improving 10-15%, and there are several times, depending on my usages, where it up to 15%-20%.
6+ hrs on screen is my best by far and this is including 4-5 hrs of idle and light/moderate using, and only 1-2 hrs of heavy browsing, texting, etc. Have been also skeptical and hesitated about whether to pick up this without many reviews but on second thought, I can be the first and share my experience if that’s a real good. YMMV, I am not thinking about if they are spending money on promoting the well-knowness for their company, as far as I can tell, it is working fine on MY GS5.

Oh sweet, Thank you! =)
These batteries don't hold quite the charge the OEM batteries do, but it'll last a good 8 hours. I ordered a pair of these batteries and I'll see how long they last (Hyperion batteries have a good track record with my phones).

Nope, so I bought 3 of them. at 6 dollars a piece, and no shipping, even if i get one thats semi-decent it's better than no spare are all and I was making my way through a battery and a half per day on my S4.
*UPDATE*
4300 mHa Battery
I'm a very heavy user of my smartphone. When i had my Galaxy S4 i was going through a battery and a half per day. When i saw these batteries i thought i'd give them a try. I though 6 bucks, each, bought 3 of them for the hell of it. So in the old phrase of you get what you pay for is absolutely true in this case.
These batteries even say "Long Lasting High Capacity Li-ion battery" and are a 4300mAh battery, where the stock is 2800mAh. So in theory these batteries are 45% bigger than stock and should give me relatively 45% more time in operation of my smartphone on a single charge.
What it has given me is a great deal less. My S5 on the OEM battery would last from when i unplugged it at 6am to usually 5:30 or 6 at night before I hit the 30% alert. I just checked and my phone is currently 4H 50M 06S in and I am down to 38%. This battery as it sits is a complete waste of money.
Now as they were only 6 bucks each I did buy 3 so I will try the other two over the next couple days but if they are the same, then my suggestion is do not buy this product.
I just went with this one. Guess we'll see. I'll update a couple weeks after it gets here. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JIL7C5S/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Makes sense, yes After all, no matter how advanced the phone is: the more advanced, the more battery eats.
Hum... I don't know if this battery i sreally a 4300mah...
Someone test the battery recently ?
I'm using this "brand" ( well, these printed labels ) since the S1 series.
They may not be the full 3800Mah capacity, but they always give me a full day of operation ( depending on the use offcourse )
I'm not able to test the capacity-claims ( because I don't know how )
All I know is the length of operation.
On the S2 and Note1 the power was slightly smaller, my order is coming in a few days
Will report back
