I have a desire s on Tmobile and want to debrand it to see if this solves my problems in failing to receive texts and phone calls.
Can anyone tell me the easiest way to do this, and can i rebrand the phone if I need to send it back?
Links or a how to guides would be great thanks!

De-branding alone won't resolve errors on your phone, but will void your warranty.
If your problems are reproductive and not just intermittent then I'd suggest that you return your device under warranty and seek a replacement.

Hmmm....?
I can only take you at your word....but, my wife has a branded T-mobile desire s which functions fine and has done for over a month now.
Where as I have a non-branded desire s which also runs on T-mobile but is unlocked and runs customs ROM which also runs fine.
Failing to receive texts does sound like a network issue not a device problem?
I also have a t-mobile desire s and all works fine, am on custom rom at the moment and have tried most of them and not had a problem with any off them. Also all worked well when it was stock rom.
Are you sure all your apn settings are correct.

Google APN settings, they're easily found.
But I don't think these settings affect the way you receive texts or make calls, they're just for data, no?

Try new Sim cards
Sent from my Desire S using Tapatalk
Dear forum,
let me just go straight to the point:
My Galaxy Nexus was stolen at work last friday. I tried to use some tracking software like Plan B but without succes, the SIM card had been changed allready.
Now here comes the part that gave me some hope.
When I went to My (Gmail) Account at the Android Market today (using my desktop), I noticed 2 things:
- First thing is that the record from the column "Carrier" has been changed from "Vodafone" to "KPN', so I think I can assume here that someone put another SIM card in it.
- Also at the column "Last Used" I see "February 13, 2012", which is yesterday (monday).
I was really wondering if there is a workaround or something to get more information (like the phone number of that SIM card?) than just the carrier of that SIM card and when it was last used?
Thanks in advance~
Anthony Elbers
During the night push a remote lock app to the device, if they haven't changed the google user login by then. Then just lock the device. If the app shows it set a screen message offering reward for return. Better still make it scream while at work tomorrow.

The thing is, I only work at fridays and saturdays. I also think that the person is smart enought to not bring the phone to work when I'm around.
I thought maybe if I could get some more information with a workaround, I could catch the thief myself instead of waiting for him/ her to give it back (which probably isn't going to happen).
I hope you informed your managers.
You could have a look through the available apps in the market see if there is anything you can use to lock the phone remotely and or push some really nasty messages to it. If you ain't using why should they get the use of it think there may be some way of remotely wiping the phone aswell. Then at least it would be of no use to the thief anyway. Sorry I can't be of more help. I allways make sure I activate any built in phone finder and instal lookout, so never really had to deal with the issue

Note that the phone is stolen and SIM card has been changed allready. As far as I know you need to configure Prey on the phone itself, so not really remote like Plan B.
I'm still curious if there is a workaround to get more information about the SIM card than just the "Carrier" and "Last Used"?
Like.. are those the only two things that get stored or is there more information about the SIM card that I could get without having the phone itself?
If you have the IMEI you can contact your network and ask they put a block on the phone, a lot of the time it also blocks it off other networks as well.
i think the info about the sim like its number is by far more important than map location because if you got the thief's number then you can report that number to the police and mobile network .

This is pretty much what I'm aiming for since I allready have contacted the police and gave them the IMEI of the phone. They said like something like "We'll see what we can do", but I thought there would be some workaround (yeah I'm using this word alot) to get more information of that SIM card.
I think I can assume that the column "Carrier" which is shown on the screen, is read of the SIM card?
Question is, if anything else is shown somewhere in my Gmail (since it's linked to my Galaxy Nexus) or at the Android Market or something that might be of help?
do you know that mobile carriers can identify everything to a handset with just an IMEI
i don't know what is the procedures in your country but i think you should call that carrier and ask for directions especially if you have a proof of purchase or something similar

My question is, did you inform your carrier? Here, when that happened to my friend who wasn't too tech saavy, I called his carrier, had the phone blocked right away, and told them what network it was on via the same information that you received via email. The actually contact the manufacturer and the police and were able to track it down on their network, find the phone and press charges. That IMEI number is huge as it tells the carrier what exact tower the phone is connected to. In densely populated areas, that's 1-2km max. Cross reference the people at work that live in that area and boom. Done like dinner.

Yeah I know that, but I called both the police and my carrier and gave them my IMEI and asked if they could do such thing.. and both said that they can't do such a thing, ONLY if the phone has the original SIM card... I think they just don't want to help me at all.

Hey, my girlfriend got a LG optimus Hub phone, like 3 months ago. It was all working fine until like a week before. Once in a while there comes this problem that she can't receive any sms, but she can still send me an sms. When she takes out the sim card and puts it into another phone, all the sms i've sent she receives then. And then when puts the sim back in her phone, she can receive the sms. And then it works fine for like a day, and then the problem starts all over.. What could it be? How to fix it?
Oh, and btw, it's the stock ROM and the phone has only been rooted, nothing else.
Anyone? :S
Has noone really had this problem before? :/

She's on Tele 2, that's the most popular carrier in Latvia.
Btw, what's towers update? 0.o
In the states you are able to type in a code (usually the same number used for activation) and it will just reconfigure to the cell towers in your area.

Oh no, that's not the case here. We don't really need an activation code here, too. So that's something different.. :/ It happened today, like 2 hours ago, again. We had to put the sim card in another phone and after like 20 mins, we got all the SMS. Then when put the sim back in the LG, it works again. But this happens like everyday. :/ The incoming messages just get stuck, but she can still send them. :/
On some sms/mms stock apps there are settings that if checked can block all outgoing and or incoming sms and mms messages. Check the settings of the app itself and if all else fails there are some really good free 3rd party messaging apps available as a replacement.

Have you applied any updates recently? A buddy of mine installed a carrier update and it made his phone go all wonky. I would suggest backing up her data and doing a factory reset. Factory resets usually always fix software issues like what you're experiencing... Also if you do a backup, start from scratch don't restore any data from the backup as you don't know what is triggering the issue....
It's not the messaging apps fault, that's for sure. Checked that one like tons of times, and tried out other apps, the problem always shows up.
Well I guess that I'll just have to do a factory reset. :/ But could it maybe fix it, by installing another ROM? Like Optimus HUB has an official support for CM7.

Oh no, actually I haven't. I'll try it next time the problem occurs and see if it fixes it!
Anyone got some new ideas what could cause this? :/
The airplane mode toggling doesn't help. :/
I've heard somewhere about something that SIM cards can get old and then this thing happens when they sometimes get stuck and you can't receive sms.
So yeah, my girlfriends SIM is like 5 years old, could that really be the problem?
So, i told my GF to go and ask for a new SIMcard, and that fixed the problem. Basically it was just too old SIM. Im just saying if anyone gets the same problem.
Hello,
I'm on airtel carrier. I am running neo rom V2.1 (GB based) and trying to make a conference call between 3 parties including myself.
When i call 1st number and get connected, i use "Add call" to add another call.
After the 2nd call is added, i click on "Merge" option.. and i get the screen "unable to make conference calls" error.
I read in other forums that it is carrier specific? Has anyone experiencing this issue?
Solution/Fix: Call conferencing feature is network provider specific. If you find any issue with call conferencing, you may check with service provider. I was told that on vodafone and airtel networks, prepaid SIM's don't support call conferencing feature (not yet as per customer care exec).

Buddy were you able to make confrence calls earlier as in before using this rom ??
Because at times you have to ask your service provider to activate the value added services like call confrencing, call waiting and all
Might be a problem at airtels end too. Or you have to get it activated.
Call 198 and ask?

Actually It happened due to sim changes. Happened with me. When you insert the SIM in any other mobile. It automatically send status to service provider. Then it stopped it. Also, you have seen in previous days, When u insert sim in other mobile then it gives you GPRS & MMS setting automatically.
This issue is fixed now. Added details in the OP so that if anyone has the issue, he/she can look into the solution/fix..

Hi Deepankar,
Thanks for the info. But, when i called up vodafone bangalore and airtel bangalore.. (i talked in regional language.. !!) they said they are not supporting conf call facility on prepaid as of now. but they are planning to support in future..
If its supporting on your prepaid, its great.. let me know your region.. i will call them up again and tell them about your prepaid conf call availability to them.
i just searched in web..
http://www.vodafone.in/vas/callmanagement/pages/callconference.aspx
found the following disclaimer..
---
Service not available for Prepaid customers in AP, Kerala and Karnataka.
While most phones support Call Conference for up to 5 people, we would recommend you check with your phone manufacturer regarding details for your phone.

Hello, have call conference of galaxy wide(G600) ?
Not sure if this is a carrier thing or the device? I switched from AT&T to Verizon when this device came out. When on a call and a call comes in I place original call on hold and answer incoming call. If I then hang up on that call it hangs up on both people. Is there no call waiting?
Never had to tell someone they need to hang up so I can switch back to the other person on hold. Seems like either a bad carrier issue or bug? Never had CDMA carrier before so hopefully not an issue I'm stuck with?

This is a CDMA bug since it happens with Sprint as well. I was like you, I switched over from AT&T about 4 years ago. It absolutely drove me crazy for about a year until I just finally gave up and accepted it. I'm hoping that things will chnage when VoLTE becomes the standard:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

If you have Sprint dial *38 and/or *720 to restore your call waiting. And for other mobile companies ##21#. But you can read through and find the correct deactivation. The problem happens because somehow call forwarding was active. I think it happened for me when I used my sprint number as my Google Voice number.
