Sense 4.0 - worth it?? - HTC Sensation

I'm wondering what 4.0 rom's offer that the 3.6 roms don't. I'm not asking "what is the best rom.." but wanting to know first hand experience why people have chose to use any of the sense 4.0 roms instead of the standard ICS 3.6 ones.
Mainly wondering about the top concerns: performance, battery life, usability and camera/video.
Thanks ahead of time, I did search and didn't find answers to my questions.

I'm now using OrDroid rom...
What I can tell you is that if you want performance, with any doubt go to sense 3.6. Sense 4.0 are still too laggy. Camera I would also tell you sense 3.6 due there is a mod for 40 mbps video while in 4. 0 its just 20. Battery life I can't tell you because I don't feel any difference.
I'm using a sense 4.0 rom because I really like the user interface and the cool clock.

I like Sense 4 ROM's, the looks are better than 3.6. I notice that the battery life is a little worse tho than 3.6 ROM's but I'm a heavy user so to me it's all pretty much the same. I'm using OrDroid and its nice and smooth but after a few hours it gets a little sluggish. There is a MMS problem also but besides that it's pretty much stable.

I tried sense 4 never been back to 3.6, TRY FOR YOURSELF

i tried 3.6 , 4.0 and to be honest sense less roms are the best. fastest, better battery life, cleanest than any other sense rom

Buy GNex then.

You could always make a nandroid backup and try it for yourself. I tried out OrDroid for the past few days and I found it stable and useable enough to be a daily driver (I don't really use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi Hotspot) but I eventually went back to ARHD because it seems more stable anyway. Having said that I like the user interface of Sense 4.0; it looks so much better. I didn't really notice a significant change in battery life with Sense 4.0, but my usage pattern varies from day to day so it's very hard to tell. My phone was hotter with Sense 4.0, but that could have been the kernel.

Yes since we're getting it without buying anything. Haha,
Tried a sense 4 rom already but still too heavy and slow for my taste. I'm now using a senseless rom.

Uhhhh, sense 4.0 rocks. I was using OrDroid 2.0.6 and now onto newer 2.0.8 and I can say its amazing. I have experienced no lag no poor battery performance or any ill effects. There is a patch for mms fix in op of ordroids forum and to get good battery life u must put phone thru a couple cycles after battery calibration. If u people would dig a little u will find the things needed for good performance. Sense 3.6 sucks compared to 4.0 and that's a fact. Simply flash and see for yourself dude. I dare ya to.

[Q] sense or non-sense roms

has anyone experienced better battery life with either rom? if so please share what you had prior and what your using now.
thanks
I love non sense Idk why its just smoother
HTC Inspire not Desire
Chocolate or vanilla? non sense is going to have better battery life then sense roms but its all preference.
Either can have good battery life. Sense roms need more crap removed since it comes with more crap. Removing the extra bloat from sense and cutting out some of the social network syncing really helps. Htc's own little download thing can be a huge pig for example.
Otherwise its more of a blonde or brunette preference.
I have used Sense roms and they seem to be really poor on Battery. I switched to CM7 and never looked to sense. Sense makes no-sense.
thanks for the responses. personally i like the sense roms. i've been using coredroid and am happy with the visuals. i've been using current widget to see my power drain and it just seems that my device uses more power than other phones. ive got most of my settings tuned down to 1hr peak/4hr non peak intervals and once a day fb updates.
I've been using MIUI and IMO, there has been no difference in battery life between it and RCMixHD.
Krisbo
I've been using Android Revolution 4G 3.2 on my Inspire 4G and regularly see 15-18 hours of use before needing a recharge. Brightness on 40% and wifi stays on all day, no GPS use.
I wouldn't mind CM7 + HTC Sense Facebook
I was using no sense for about a week and switched back to a sense Rom. Actually, an inspire based rom is my preferred choice right now.
I prefer no sense. With no sense roms, you can customize more.
Just off battery life alone I vote for non-sense ROM's.
I'm running CM7 and the battery life is great.
My experience with different ROMs' bat life:
1.CM7
2.Stock AT&T
3.Android Revolution HD 3.3(just a bit worse than stock)
4.CoreDroid GB v5.1[decent ROM but HORRIBLE battery life (for me)(could be because I'm running stock radio)]

ARHD or Insertcoin (sense 3.5)

I understand those are the most popular sense 3.5, I now have Insertcoin's version, are there any big differences between them? should I give ARHD's a try? also if you have a better recommendation for another sense 3.5 rom I'd be happy to listen.
Between the two I would pick insertcoin. ARHD was just slow to me, and drained batteries if I looked at it weird.
You could try giving Senseay a try, heard good things abt it.

Okay so not a big difference then, thanks mate.

I find InsertCoin ROM's to be about the fastest sense versions. I also like the S3ns3ay versions too.
Both of these are followers of the Bricked kernel, which is probably a little quicker than the Faux kernel in ARHD. However, speed and power can consume more battery and I think Faux is working on a battery efficient kernel, where Show-P is a little less battery conscious.
I started out with ARHD switched to InsertCoin primarily for the amaze camera and found I liked the feel and speed of that rom better. I've since switched to CM7 selfkang 9 and am stuck in limbo as to what I want to do because I'm not 100% happy with what I have. Also from my experience both ARHD and InsertCoin have so many additional apps that I have no idea why they put them on the rom I ended up cleaning up the rom major after I installed it. I have heard that bulletproof is a great rom though. I may try that out. I'm just tired of setting up my phone after each flash.
Only you can get a feel for what you like.
InsertCoin and ARHD are pretty similar, others offer different visuals and features.
Nandroid is your friend!!
Try 'em all until you're happy. Just be scrupulous with your backups.
Different devs have different philosophies.
InsertCoin and ARHD are pretty similar, others offer different visuals and features.
TaDa!!!
P.
2nd day with IC and I'm seeing huge improvements in battery life (probably ARHD's 1.5ghz overclock was the culprit) I'm very satisfied with it so far, thanks everyone for the input.
Neither. CM7.
Everything
I have taken my Sensation on all the rides in the park and keep going back to my ARHD backup, the bugs i had aren't there in 4.1.5 so i think faux has had some success lately, my battery life is much better than it was in Stock mode. same factory battery. however not all phones are created equally and not everyone runs the same apps, i think the apps loaded are the key to better or worse luck.
Do you run it @1.5ghz ?

Reverted back to GB

Thought id share, just gone back to GB from ICS 4.0.3 unroll HTC push the stable ota out and I must say, sooooo much better battery, speed and performance. I missed my phone being this fast lol

What ICS were you using and what GB are you on? If anything I personally found that ICS was a bit faster and better battery.
Went from insert coin to mikes android rev. I found ics so laggy and battery wasn't lasting 16 hours with same usuage. I am getting bored of the selection of sensations Roms they are mostly all same sense roms or new roms that all have bugs and things not working. Miui for example camera still don't work (recording). Bluetooth or camera on cm9 due to kernel and so on just seems theres always something to prevent a fully working pyramid rom So to gett all things I need working I'm stuck with a sense Rom
Going to switch to a new phone but not sure what to get Any suggestions?;
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
I too think gb is faster but battery was better with ICS I reverted to gb before and after a while flashed ics again cuz of the battery and cm9. I still kind of want to go back to gb but don't want to have to flash the FW again and risk bricking.

Have you looked at upgrading your batter? I just got the Anker one and the difference is significant.
im on the blitz 5 ics rom and its far better than virtuous, in terms of battery life and stability.
Strange, I find InsertCoin ICS to be faster and have better battery life than GB.
It must be my battery then lol

I have tried several of the ICS flavors from different ROM builders.
I keep coming back to ARDH 3.6.x.
I gotta have WiFi calling stability and the call quality when outside is bad (Lack of noise cancellation).
I too, had worse battery life on any of the ICS builds. However, performance, as measured by seat of the pants and benchmarks...was better.
I'm very appreciative of the Dev work on these...don't get me wrong.
I've found I like Sense 3.5 or 3.6 more than ICS at this point in time...the widgets and folder/app organization is superior to 3.0.
Can't wait for an OEM release so these devs can really nail it.
I installed an insertcoin rom but not glad to install 4.0.3. Colors seem to be sober.. I don't know why but i'm pretty sure that there's a problem with the colors. I saw a topic about it and i think it had a patch to fix it. But i can't find it.. Anyone knows? If no, i will go back to gingerbread, too until the official sensation ics release comes =(

+1. No lag at all and battery is best I've had since getting the phone. Only downside for me is waiting for apps to be updated for Ics.
Sent From My HTC Sensation using Xda premium App
Ics is definitely faster than gingerbread. Needed to run cm7 to feel like I was actually using a dual core phone, but sense ics feels much faster than gb sense. Fast enough that I can tolerate sense now. Battery life hasn't been that exciting on ics for me though. It seems about the same maybe a bit worse but then I haven't bothered to calibrate the battery yet.
All in all, I won't ever go back to gingerbread.

i have just installed insert coin ics 2 days ago and very much happy with the smoothness, stability, and speed of it. not really a rom addict but i tried only two other roms before and stayed loyal on each of them. but i think i have my new rom now and will definitely stay with baadnewz rom. battery have never been an issue of mine since its always usb plugged.
in comparison with gingerbread, there really is no contest.
Ran LeeDroid, ARHD, and AndroidME ICS roms, and so far liking the AndroidME the most. May try InsertCoin next week and see what the hype is about.
ICS is already faster than GB with the stock kernel, and I can imagine it only getting faster once kernel devs improve their work. This is coming from someone running Pyramid3D 12 hours prior @ 1.512g overclocking kernel.
Sent from my HTC Sensation
I've tried CM7, ARHD 3.6 (GB), 5.2, 6.0 and 6.2 (ICS), so my experience is somewhat limited.
But I've noticed that ICS is faster than GB right after superwiping and flashing the ROM. As time passes it gets slower and slower. Shutting down and restarting helps a bit, but the performance never fully improves. This is just the feel of the phone, menu lags, scrolling stuttering, etc.
In comparison GB is slower, but more consistent. The way it feels right after a new flash is the same way it feels after 1-2 weeks uptime. And it has fewer bugs, like the green Skype video.
still baking
I was flashing a dozen similar Sense 3.6 roms and then realized I had a problem. No consistency, flashing addict. I even considered un-rooting to rehab myself. I really liked Virtuous Quattro Alpha 3 and TripNRaver's CM9 but not having Bluetooth and video recording was a deal breaker.
Two months ago, I was having issues with Gingerbread and my device freezing. But after learning about firmwares, I think I made my device even more reliable than stock. I went back to Sense-o-maniac v1.5.3 with the Amaze camera. For me, this rom has almost everything I need from Android: Amazing camera, CRT animations, screen shots, and a working Hulu+ app.
Sense is okay but I love the improvements of Android 4.0. The new lock screen, new menus, calendar, and the keyboard works great. Hopefully by March, some of these great devs will have perfected CM9.
pro setup includes. Virtuous inquisition ics 4.0.3 on the sensation is fantastic. Quite possibly the best phone/rom combo ive used. 30+ hrs battery. Its fast. Everything works. Cant ask for more at this point. U should try virtuous inquisition before deciding to stick with gingerbread. I was reluctant to take the plunge up to ics but glad i did. This is coming from someone who is extremely picky with their device and how well it works.

[Q] Endymion V3.4 vs Reaper V2.2.2

Between this 2 ROMs what is the best for you?
Reaper without Sense is more smooth?
An extremely difficult question to answer. AOSP fans will tell you Reaper and Sense fans will tell you Endymion. Both are extremely fast and smooth though. I've used both and i only prefer Reaper because i like AOSP. The only way to judge is to try both and see which one appeals more to you.
Both are "ultrafast & smooth" .
Sense or not Sense ? That is the question .
Just do what I do, keep nandroids of both and switch between them when you're bored

but better of those is just miui .
for me its gotta be reaper until cm9 stable or lowveld releases a ics stable build, its a race for the best ics
I just cant deside. One week Im on Reaper the other on Endymion. They both rock!

I'd say that both are exceptionally stable, I use Endymion more and don't ever suffer from any instability issues, although Reaper may have better battery life as its not sense.
But both are superb quality, just depends on whether you want to use Sense or not.
just installed endymion, tried the camera and it is so much better, gonna set it fully up and run it for a day as much as i hate sense i may end up using it all the time until a reaper ics update is out, wishful thinking ha

endymion
im using endymion for 3 months and i find it very stable i think is the best rom 3.5 sense but now looking forward for sense 4
I cant/wont choose so I have both, weekends Reaper and during the week Endymion But..
Reaper is super faster and has better battery life but that is because you can adjust the light settings, in settings for the light sensor to don't check as much + it does have to keep all that heavy weight of sense 3.5
Not saying that the battery life on Endymion sucks! But when comparing it to Reaper u will notice a difference
Endymion is just the best rom in being customizable u can get with sense (that i know of) here.
It just a matter of having or not having... (wait for it..) SENSE
I haven't try reaper yet But I'm using Endymion for 3 days and its amazing. I love Sense and Endy makes it better.
without a doubt these two are the most stable roms available, you cant go wrong either way.. unless your realllllly unlucky haha

Completely agree. Been a long time user of Endymion, but recently gave Repaer a go. It's much better than the default offerings from CM7. lowveld has done an awesome job and tweaked it up for performance. I particularly love the browser - it's so smooth and fast. Much smoother than default CM7. I tried to add GPU rendering in CM7, but still doesn't come as close as Reaper's way.
That's a great idea! I use Endymion as my main driver, as it has all my important data and Sense customization, but Reaper is more of a 'play' toy! It's much faster in regards to speed.
I can't comment on battery life, I'm finding both to be very similar IMO.
Using Reaper atm and I've had no significant problems with it. I haven't tried Endymion yet though.

Sense VS Senseless

Hi all,
have been using CM9 for months and its great with very good battery life, but I really miss the sense camera and wonder if the latest Sense Rom has better battery as some members has stated?
I am on Venom senseless now and wonder if it has a better battery than the full sense version?
Here's my battery life running cm10 with the Fusion Ultimate v2.0 OCUV kernel-- overclock to 1890 with Brazilianwax governor... it's pretty good maybe it depends on how u set up your phone or how u use it to get the best battery life.
Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
Im on venom rom with full sense with stock htc kernal thats provided with the rom... I get a day out of the phone. I have it connected to wifi all day. Listen to music for about 5 hours(do alot of painting) and then browse then web for about 30minutes all together and maybe paly few games to pass the time. None of the kernals are completely bulletproof for me yet tried afew and kept getting wifi problems and not great on battery either..
Been meaning to try senseless but never got round to it yet will try this weekend.
I am quite a light user so I got around 2 full days using CM9 with wifi mostly on..
I'm struggling with this decision too. Sense has a smoother gallery, better camera app and the whole rom is perfectly fitting for 1s.
But Cm10 feels dann fast and it's much more lighter than anything else. Unfortunately heavy 3d games are laggier and the photos taken by CM don't look as good as the sense one's. Now I'm on sense, but I promise I will be on CM later today...or tomorrow... :banghead:
P.s: Battery life feels like almost the same to me.
ya its a hard choice. Sense has a lot of white background and its killing the battery a bit more.
I think right now sense is better. I'm getting whole day usage wih over 3 hours of screen time on fusion undervolted. Still fast because the clock is set to 1.5. No lag. I'm glad to be back on sense running viper
Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
CM10 battery is pretty bad right now. I would not suggest. I've been rocking Venom Sense and have been getting amazing battery. I would go to CM10 to CM9 to MIUI and always back to Venom due to super stable battery and solid performance. Best part is Venom is so themeable, I you can make it look almost exactly like AOSP, minus the ****ty (sh!tty) white Sense menus.
